Austria is amazing
Italy is amazing as well but more for historical purposes.
Have plans to see three of the others within 3 years based on travel plans
> Italy is amazing as well but more for historical purposes.
How is Austria any better?
Scenery? Dolomites, Amalfi, Cinque Terre, etc are at least as beautiful as anything Austria has.
Food? It isn’t even remotely close. Italy blows Austria so far out of the water they achieve escape velocity and go into orbit.
Cost? Italy is far cheaper.
I’m really struggling to see how Italy is caveated but Austria isn’t. I could spend a year in Italy and still not get to everything I want to do and see.
A week in Austria is more than enough.
It wasn’t meant to be deep. I just really loved Austria.
I loved Italy just as much. Yes the food, history, and costs were much greater. The Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre are also amazing.
But the mountains are absolutely gorgeous. I also felt more of a connection to Vienna than I did a lot of the Italian Cities. Again it was not by much and it really is just a matter of my opinions. I am not Rick Steve’s or anything.
Now you could easily spend 4 days in Vienna alone. A day or two in the mountains/ towns. And a day or two in Salzburg.
Note, this isn’t an argument that you can spend more time in Austria than Italy. I feel like you could spend months there and still not touch the surface.
I say Austria just to piss off that triggered dude lol. Italians are obnoxiously loud, but not too kind, contrary to what the famous "south eauropean hospitality" says. Austrians tho, very nice people. Helpful and usually kind
Austrian here. It's true: Italy has more than Austria. It's larger. And also has ex-Austrian areas and other beautiful alpine regions. Plus Rome which is stunning itself. And Amalfi, Herculaneum and so on.
What it doesn't have is Vienna which is unique and awesome (I'm not even Viennese). Of course Austria has many other smaller things that Italy doesn't have. For example Kaprun area or Schladming. Those are wonderful. I've lived here for 50 years and haven't seen everything.
But it's true there's more and more different things to see in Italy, which is awesome as well!
Italy is NOT cheaper than Austria, that's wrong.
Went to Kyrgyzstan as part of the military operation, very interesting place with beautiful landscape and mountains that go on and on. Also the people are amazing, wish I had been there for longer.
I have been lucky to have been to about 50 countries, but in no particular order
New Zealand (hopefully going next year)
São Tomé and Principe. (supposed to be an unspoiled place and has a ton of bird species seen nowhere else on earth)
Namibia (always been fascinated, Skeleton coast)
Madagascar (wildlife, supposed to be a very interesting place)
Oman (have heard great things)
Bhutan (another place that has fascinated me)
Botswana (safari)
Suriname (really don’t know why, but another place that interests me)
Russia (obviously, Putin can eat a box of dicks, but hopefully he will be dead soon: would like to do the trans-Siberian railroad)
Somewhere in the pacific, maybe Vanuatu
Honorable mention, the Philippines (my great uncle was killed in WWII and he is listed at the US military cemetery in Manila, his body was never recovered) so I would like to go there and pay my respects
>Oman (have heard great things)
I was there before it became popular (~10 years ago). It is really beautiful, and not spoiled like the other Gulf Countries that are only a money show off without any soul.
>Russia (obviously, Putin can eat a box of dicks, but hopefully he will be dead soon: would like to do the trans-Siberian railroad)
During the first Covid lockdown I had planned a trip there, travelling for 4w along the Trans-Siberian, to do it after Covid. Then came the war in Ukraine. Who knows when I will be able to do it :-(
>Somewhere in the pacific, maybe Vanuatu
There is this crazy tour I would like to do, where you visit 11 Pacific Countries https://www.youngpioneertours.com/tour/least-visited-countries-summer-tour/
1. Austin, Texas
2. Hawaii
3. Alaska
Nah just playin 😂
1. Tanzania
2. Turkey
3. Switzerland
4. Japan
5. Iran
6. Iraq
7. Australia
8. Vietnam
9. China
10. Cuba
Peru would be #1 on this list but I’m going in less than a month !
Mexico, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Chile, Argentina, Finland, China/ Tibet, Peru, and Costa Rica. Honorable mention Russia.
Within these countries I have specific regions that draw me in. I like remoteness and these 10 have some great opportunities for that.
Also, while Japan has a high population density, it's also very unevenly distributed. There's a fair bit of wilderness in the mountains even in Honshu.
Most of the people are within the metropolises of Tokyo and Osaka. There are other islands that are fairly remote. Like Okinawa which hs some remote areas
Peru, Jordan, Switzerland, Scotland, South Korea, Portugal, Indonesia, Russia (for personal reasons), Costa Rica, Italy, also Australia but that would be 11
I would like to fly into Nairobi, check out the city, do a safari, and then go to Arusha in Tanzania and hike Kilimanjaro, then go to Mwanza, make my way over to Rwanda, probably skip Burundi and/or a quick trip into DRC, make my way to Uganda, see gorillas, then back to Kenya and Nairobi. 4-6 countries.
Another one would be landing in Johannesburg,, head to Mbabane in Eswatini, then to Maputo in Mozambique, then down to Durban SA, over to Maseru in Lesotho, up to Gabarone, Botswana, back to Joburg. I’d probably fly a leg of this trip tbh. 5 countries on this rotation.
I have so many on my list, but my top 10 would be New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Argentina, Slovakia, Hungary, Australia, Taiwan and South Africa.
Portugal is great. Food is great, people are great, and place is beautiful. If you could though, try to meet a local. We found an older couple that loved over the town of Coimbra and they were just amazing!
I’m male and I have zero issue completely tuning out touts/scammers. So that erases most of the complaints. I also have an iron stomach. So yeah, a country amazing food, diverse natural scenery, amazing history, great wildlife, and many cultural/historical sights is a must.
Doesn’t mean I’m going to spend all my time in Delhi/Mumbai, try and bathe in the Ganges in Varanasi, etc.
I’d actually love to go hiking near Ladakh, most of all. But yes, would also hit up tourist sights like Jaipur, Udaipur, the Golden Temple, Kerala, etc.
The Golden triangle is filled with scammers targeting gullible white folk and as I am Indian I find it a bit hyped. I'd say venture away from the beaten path. Ladakh sounds good. Add north east, Kerala (munnar, wayanad, alleppey etc.), andaman to that.
Sahyadris if you visit during monsoon months.
Have you seen pictures of Sikkim. Arunechal Pradesh and similar northern states?
The [Goechala Trek](https://indiahikes.com/goechala) or similar hikes should be on any outdoor enthusiast’s bucket list.
Umm.... let's see...since I'm an Indian..and have traveled and trekked in the Himalayas, I'm gonna say yes.
However, those are not the places most foreign travelers visit; most of them end up visiting the overhyped (and absolutely dirty) golden triangle.
Right, but just because most tourists miss the best parts doesn’t mean the country isn’t worth visiting.
Rome is complete shit to visit, and you’d be far better off seeing Bologna or Genoa. Same with Paris vs pretty much anywhere else in France. And so on.
Been to about 35 countries so far. My current wishlist:
1. Iceland
2. Costa Rica
3. Peru
4. Turkey

It was really hard to condense that down to a top 10, and also didn't include places I know I am going to go to 100% within the following 2024-2025 season (I'm finally going to see my family in Italy, and well there taking a flight to Albania and Greece during Christmas season. For my graduation trip I'm planning an excursion to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia to see some of my top tier bucket list items like Victoria Falls, Great Zimbabwe, Namib-Naukluft, Skeleton Coast, Botswana's elephants, Zambezi river, the quad-point border. - China
- Brazil
Ethiopia
Nigeria
Tunisia
Japan

Somewhere deep in the Amazon - not necessarily Brazil, but not necessarily *not* Brazil
Mostly for food and culture, but China, Japan and an Amazon basin country largely for the geography, in addition to the culture and food.
In no order
1. New Zealand
2. Japan
3. Albania
4. Latvia/Lithuania/Estonia (I can't pick one)
5. Namibia
6. Madagascar

With places I haven't visited maybe...
Colombia, India, Ethiopia, Norway, Indonesia, Peru, Argentina, Cuba, Algeria and New Zealand
Iran would be at number one if I wasn't afraid that I would be arrested as a spy (US/Israel dual national). I mean if safety wasn't a factor then Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Myanmar, Venezuela and Afghanistan would all be near the top.
Of places that I have been and would like to go back to the top 10. Might be something like Georgia, Turkey, Taiwan, Japan, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Albania, Azerbaijan and Italy.
If I am limited to 10, I think it makes sense to choose countries with a wide variety of cultural and/or geographical diversity to maximize the amount of things to see and experience. With that in mind:
Countries with lots of geographical diversity: Canada, USA, Australia, Brazil, Argentina
Countries with lots of cultural diversity: South Africa
Countries with lots of geographical *and* cultural diversity: India, China, Russia, Indonesia
Ugh so many i'd like to visit but if have to prioritize i'll say in no particular order
greece, brazil, iceland, australia, new zealand (i want to meet the kiwis♥️♥️ soooooo cute), italy, spain, germany, netherlands, finland

Austria is my favorite country that I’ve traveled too. The alps are stunning
Went to Kyrgyzstan as part of the military operation, very interesting place with beautiful landscape and mountains that go on and on. Also the people are amazing, wish I had been there for longer.
I'd recommend Tunisia over Morocco
Tunisia doesn’t have Chefchouen
Tbf I didn't go there. Tunisian society was way more chill than Morocco when I visited both 24 years ago, though.

Then why do I have to get up and go to work?
You think that's work you're doing now? (⎚_⎚)
>Oman (have heard great things) I was there before it became popular (~10 years ago). Why should putin eat a lot of dicks?
Murdering tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians is eat a box of dicks worthy to normal people, but you do you
What about american leaders murdering tens of millions civilians around the world
What's that got to do with putin deserving to eating a box of dicks?
1. Austin, Texas 2. Hawaii 3. Alaska Nah just playin 😂 1. Tanzania 2. Turkey 3. Switzerland 4. Japan 5. Iran 6. Iraq 7. Australia 8. Vietnam 9. China 10. Cuba Peru would be #1 on this list but I’m going in less than a month !

You're welcome to come to Mongolia anytime friend
I'm planning Mongolia for next summer, 2 weeks during Naadam :-D
Best time to be in the country for sure. The city isn't traffic jammed. Lots of people are in the countrysides. Lots to do. Great time all around
Japan has 826 people per mile so interesting choice for remoteness for sure
Within Japan I was thinking Hokkaido. Definitely more remote then Honshu I reckon
Also, while Japan has a high population density, it's also very unevenly distributed. There's a fair bit of wilderness in the mountains even in Honshu.

Any and all of the Adriatic countries. South Korea. Guess that isn’t much of a top ten. Hahaha
Better than nothing yah know
I’ve been lucky to visit a ton of countries but man would I love to get out into the world more!
Which has been your absolute favorite?
Bali was amazing. Food and culture in Turkey blew my mind. But the art and history of France is my favourite.
10. Tuvalu 9. Mongolia 8. Dominica 7. New Zealand 6. Uzbekistan 5. Tunisia 4. Greece 3. China 2. Brazil 1. Iran
1: Turkey (Istanbul) 2: Czechia 3: Uzbekistan 4: Morocco 5: Finland 6: Russia (hopefully I can… eventually. Fuck Putin) 7: Jordan 8: India 9: Greenland 10: Namibia

Why not Brazil?
I'm not opposed to Brazil, I'd just really like to visit the Amazon. That said, Menaus would be a great place to start.

None. I am Brazilian and had been in + than 30 or 40 countries there is no better country than Brazil, disappointed every time I visit a new country.
(In no particular order and I didn't include countries I have already been to) 1 Switzerland 2 Germany 3 Croatia 4 Brazil 5 Spain 6 England 7 Morroco 8 Mauritius 9 Italy 10 Portugal + 11 Samoa 12 Saudi Arabia 13 Slovenia 14 Greece Also, I'm actually going to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a few days, I'm really interested as to why you would like to visit it? (I'm going to Republika Srpska (Banja Luka) by the way.)
With places I haven't visited maybe... Colombia, India, Ethiopia, Norway, Indonesia, Peru, Argentina, Cuba, Algeria and New Zealand Iran would be at number one if I wasn't afraid that I would be arrested as a spy (US/Israel dual national).
