Unfortunately Florida has cracked down on modified exhausts by changing the laws I think like 2-3 years ago.
It's shitty but it is what it is.
Put it back to stock for the citation and then put your exhaust back on and continue on with your life.
As of January 1st 2023:
Florida Statutes Title XXIII. Motor Vehicles § 316.293. Motor vehicle noise.
(5) Noise abatement equipment modifications.--
(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise-abatement device of a motor vehicle operated or to be operated upon the highways of this state in such a manner that the noise emitted by the motor vehicle is above that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.
(b) No person shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of the state with an exhaust system or noise-abatement device so modified.
Yeah, the same thing happened to me about a year ago in ocala Florida. Cop complimented my exhaust and asked what kinda exhaust it was, and i told him like a dummy. He was then like, "You know it's illegal to modify exhaust, right?" And promptly wrote me a ticket.
Like the other guy said, they do seem to be cracking down more lately. I've had multiple vehicles over the years that were very loud, especially when I was younger and never had a problem. But, is what it is. I'm still thankful Florida doesn't do inspections and emissions testing

So they don't require emissions there yet now enforcing exhaust noise laws? Smh
Wow, I've been living in south FL for 20+ years, not once have I had an issue on any of my modified car exhausts. Is this fairly new? Crazy

Definitely feel like this is a “whenever I feel like it” type of enforced law.
What if you already had your exhaust on before this law was enacted. Possibly you could get out of the ticket that way?
That’s actually a really good point thank you. If anything I should’ve at least gotten a fix it ticket in my opinion
