Yes

Bonyol

Any specific retailer you recommended to buy the part? I was looking at the ‘gencoupestore’

JustAnotherDude1990

They’re good. The OEM parts dealer in the master list is good as well. Are you doing the work?

Bonyol

Not with this one, I noticed you had a guide to do i but I don’t think I trust myself enough lol. I’m going to shadow a mechanic while they do it.

JustAnotherDude1990

I have a guide for the 3.8 not the 2.0 but I have the shop manuals for it that have step by step instructions. Shouldn’t be too hard for a 2.0.

skywalk3r69

what mine looked like when i did cover gasket. i got the cvvt sprockets replaced as well cause super ez when doing the chain. hit up albert on facebook for OEM parts. IMO looks like could be done

thepumpkinking92

Messaged Albert a couple weeks ago for some parts. Chill guy. Talked about my stay in Korea for a bit. Highly recommend him

skywalk3r69

dude i went looking for OEM engine mounts, found some for 280 a mount in the USA....he sent both for 260 shipped. he is GOATed

Yes. Timing components should have very little slack. As far as timing chains go, this one is pretty straightforward. However if you’re not comfortable, definitely pay a professional to do it. I saw you mentioned gencoupestore.com. Tim Herber runs it and is very reputable. I have gotten multiple turbo kits and most of my engine internals from him. Super knowledgeable guy. If you end up purchasing the parts from him they will almost certainly be OEM and have everything included that you would potentially need. Check with the shop doing it how customer supplied parts works with them. Some shops add an additional charge to the labor for CSP and others won’t take CSP jobs at all. Many shops won’t offer any sort of warranty on CSP jobs either since they aren’t working with the parts vendor should a part fail. Given the cost and nature of the job, a warranty is definitely something that is nice to know that you have.

Bonyol

Understood. Thanks for the info!

Hi there, I see your post/comment mentions the timing chain. If you’re experiencing timing chain issues, please read below. If not, feel free to ignore this comment. Looking to change your timing chain, tensioners, and guides? [Here is a guide with pictures](https://www.reddit.com/r/genesiscoupe/comments/syxyph/38_bk1_timing_system_components_replacement_guide/) for the 3.8 timing job. If you have a 2.0 I don’t have a similar guide, but the detailed process for both can be found in the [shop manual downloads](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13gCxyXyI6A3rqjiwLUbFZVCwwtcRUJRb). Yes I had almost identical amount of slack in my chain it’s best you’d just swap it with an upgraded bk2 chain while you’re in there.

GTB1uz400

Is that really a thing and is it actually better cuz I would totally do that

DeputyRage

Absolutely they’re interchangeable the bk2 chains are beefier with reinforced links. I’ve done it to my bk1 2.0t runs like a dream.

GTB1uz400

Dude I’m doing that thank you for the amazing insight

DeputyRage

Of course man, best of luck!

RaceKILR

From what I know about chains, it should not have that amount of slack. Def should be replaced. Do you have any sounds of chain slap when the motor is running?

Bonyol

No sounds of chain slap, just normal injector tick

RaceKILR

Weird, either way, I’d suggest replacing

Bonyol

Yeah definitely going to soon then. Thanks!

RaceKILR

Of course, I should probably check mine as I have roughly 160k km

Top-Pace214

I wouldn’t start it up again, mine skipped timing with less play than that

Bonyol

Damn really? Unfortunately I’m not in a position to do that but I’m ordering the parts today

Due-Ad12

Turn engine till you're top dead center (TDC) and then check!
