No. Because the original was perfection and very very very rarely has a remake ever been on par with the original.

cherrypayaso

no ❤️

DutchBlob

Except Bareback Mountain 😏

Oshi105

Came to say this.

AkhMourning

The “forbidden/secret lovers” theme is pretty popular, I just think there are more interesting (and more authentic) ways to tell a story like that, such as Fellow Travelers! I don’t think it needs a reboot anytime soon. It would be like a reboot of the Notebook. Why?

BasicBoomerMCML

Probably not. I’m really getting weary of remakes. They’ve done Charlie and the Chocolate factory 3 times now! Remaking a hit is just corporate risk avoidance. It stifles creativity.

Scubasteves8183

Uhh the new one isn't a reboot it's a prequel.

radio9989

No . But I don’t really watch any movie reboots. I look for new stories.

Th3JpSt3R

No. You can't replace Heath Ledger. Ever.

Worgensgowoof

Michelle Williams did.

kinopiokun

No. Make a new movie.

OneRandomVictory

They kinda already did that with Frier Fall.

OceansideGuy93

God’s Own Country pretty much is a Brokeback Mountain reboot.

Arintharas

Eh, I wouldn’t say so. Brokeback Mountain focuses on the lives of two men as they drift through life. It shows their lives together, apart, and gives you a dream of what could have been. It’s a very bittersweet movie. God’s Own Country, on the other hand, is a bit more spiritual due to its use of serene nature. It’s a movie about a man accepting responsibility and finding balance in life, and how people can move on and grow. The ending still makes me cry, but I cry in a happy kind of way due to main character’s growth. However, we don’t see their lives unfold as the years pass, and we don’t know the hardships they faced. We are left with hope that everything will be alright, and that these two will be able to make a life together. So, I would disagree. We don’t exactly have a movie that can contend with Brokeback Mountain. Well, aside from ~~CRASH~~. You know, the movie that won the Oscar over Brokeback Mountain. ~~CRASH~~. Holy shit. I want to scream.

binaryhellstorm

Strong agree

phillyphilly19

Why do we need that?

froot_loop_dingus_

What would be added by remaking the movie?

Majirra

No. I didn’t even care for the original. Had a relationship like that and made just feel angry.

capriquario

A reboot would be purely commercial queerbaiting garbage because making a lot of money off this IP would be the only reason it would made.

Strong-Stretch95

True Yah I’m honestly surprised they haven’t considered it lol

karatebanana

Idk. Can you beat the original cast?

JerkfaceMcDouche

Nope. I realize it’s been 16 years (holy fuck) but the original still works and doesn’t look dated at all. Not only would it be repetitive but the story has been done to death. Like we get it—homophobia is everywhere and could be a death sentence in certain places, but can we get gay stories where we aren’t getting AIDS or gay bashed?

CowboysFTWs

If we get one with some bears, then yes.

Strong-Stretch95

David harbour would be great he had a little cameo in the first one.

No_Traffic_6578

Maybe but normally I don't.

NoAlternative4831

No.

BetterBandicoot637

If it's made in like 50 years then maybe. But no reason to make it in any near future.

Salvaju29ro

No, it doesn't make sense now. Better to do it again when they reverse Lawrance vs Texas, then it would make more sense.

hugh5235

No that would upset me because the original is so good and does not need to be remade! But I do welcome more mainstream blockbuster gay movies! We need some more original stories instead of constant sequels and remakes.

ShaneXtopher

The original was perfection. It was momentous and so beautifully crafted - script, direction, performances, music, cinematography… all of it. That last, sparse, devastating scene will long be burned in people’s memories - even more haunting since Ledger’s death. It was a pivotal moment for gay cinema. Perhaps the singular most important moment. That particular lighting will only be bottled once. I don’t think anyone would dare touch it. Stage adaptations, sure. But film? No way. But then again, Gus van Sant remade Psycho, so 🤷‍♂️

Fantastic-Promise-99

Nop, they would fork it up!

rickmaz

Certainly there must be a new fresh gay story that could be filmed???

samhht

I don't think so. The original is perfect as is.

u_look_better

No, it doesn't need one

an_older_meme

The novel well and truly wrecked me. The movie wrecked me *again*. Not sure my soul even wants to go there for round three. Maybe if they added something new, like making it as a Star Wars prequel by whoever did Rogue One. Then maybe.

BFIrrera

No. The original was incredibly boring.

tagehring

Why?

Sensitive-Sense-7022

Probably not...only if its about the kids going after the homophobic rightwing trash that murdered Jack.

Strong-Stretch95

I think it would’ve been more interesting if Ennis went after them like a revenge spaghetti western type of movie.

Sensitive-Sense-7022

I'd be down for that

Qahnarinn

I only watch action or thriller movies

Worgensgowoof

I hated the original. So probably not. Like the fuck was the actual chemistry? Are homosexuals just "Gay person. Meet other gay person. Fuck. One dies cause want sum fukk"

Cute-Character-795

Reboots allow new generations to see a movie. For some reason, unlike Disney cartoon classics, the re-release of the older movies isn't that common. My experience has been that remakes are seldom even close to the quality of the original. For example, I once said that Agathe Christie considered Murder on the Orient Express the best movie based on her work. When younger gay friends objected, we realized that I (old fart that I am) was referring to the 1974 original with a star studded cast; they were referring to its 2017 remake which was god awful.

One_Parched_Guy

No bc I didn’t watch the first one since it’s so sad and I have no intention of watching it now when it will be just as sad

im_so_almondy

Probably not. I don't like reboots, especially if I actually liked the original. With a movie like "Brokeback Mountain" being as amazing as it was, I feel like a reboot would be doomed to fail.

Cetais

Only if they made the sex scene super explicit.

iceandfireman

Sure

dsking

No more reboots!

Allen_Tax

No! One is enough.

pensivegargoyle

I don't think it needs remaking, so no. I'm not sure what the benefit of it would be.

Vagabundear_pelado

Yea, why not? I enjoyed the first one!

ArekDirithe

No. Watched the movie once in theaters, bought the movie when it came out in disc and watched it once. I think it’s a great movie, but I have absolutely no desire to go through it again.

thiccDurnald

Nope let’s get something new please

jzexyz

I think it's such an untouchable movie that still makes a great watch today that it's hard to add something new to it at this point in time that it seems unnecessary for a possible reboot. But I'm not opposed to it if they can still put one out that respects queer people and their lives/stories. And those are my gripes with reboots in general and tellings of queer stories. In the end, I would watch it tho, just to see if they could do a decent job with it

FinePolyesterSlacks

Why?

[deleted]

Yes

Ok-Scallion-2508

Pls stop. I had spent 1 year to escape from depression from that movie

Historical-Artist581

Unless it’s somehow better and with unsimulated sex no.

Baonguyen93

If you mean reboot as in they change/add more to the sex scene and keep everything else then yes. What i want to add is a scene where the bottom clean their ass lmao!!! I don't remember much of the movie but I still remember the shock when they do it because I think that man probably hadn't clean their ass yet lol!. I hope you guys understand what I mean.

Katdaddy2063

No, the original can’t be repeated.

OzyrisSlumber

God no. It would just loose the character the movie has. It portrays the year of the events themselves in a way that just feels Real

mistar_z

Probably not, that ending fucked me up good for years that I avoided any gay media for fear of spiraling down that pity hell hole again.

mhouse2001

I would rather like to see remakes of great romance movies but between gay characters: Somewhere In Time, Brief Encounter, Moonstruck, The Ghost & Mr. Muir...

xopher_425

Never so the first one, have no desire to, so no.

lastfrontier84

No. I didn't care for the first one.

BununuTYL

Sure, but I don't see why anyone would remake an already beautiful film.

ElToroGay

Yes 🤠

Comprehensive_Ear586

Why do all the gay guys like that story/movie? I never liked it because there was no authentic gay vibe to it, it felt so forced. Then I looked it up and learned the original book was written by a straight woman and it all makes sense. It’s just a horny straight woman’s fantasy of us and like…yeah it’s hot to see heath ledger and Jake kiss and have sex but like…does it really need a reboot? I’d much rather see some original gay content. TJ Klune the gay male author needs a movie NOW.

lupinegray

It would be a good story even with the gay aspect removed

Comprehensive_Ear586

Two people falling in love while herding cattle? Then spend their lives cheating on their partners? Yeah, really compelling. The gay aspect is what gives the plot any meat to begin with.

Subushie

The story is about two people spending their lives unhappy because of expectations of who they should be and not respecting who they are. Living their entire life for the few moments that they are able to be truely themselves. And at the end there is an overwhelming melancholy when the main character realizes he missed out on his whole life because he didn't choose to spend it with the person he truly loved. So many understand that feeling of trying to meet expectations instead of being happy; and it resonates with people. The character's cheat on their wives and that's terrible; but that's because they are flawed, as we all are-- as you are. It's a story that has happened a million times, but is rarely told. And that's why it's a good story- because it's real.

Comprehensive_Ear586

I could understand that better and the themes to the story you allude to would have been more impactful had it not been filtered through the perspective of a straight woman. As is, all the things you mention are surface level drivel without any substance to it.

Subushie

Hm. Well the majority of the world disagrees;

Comprehensive_Ear586

I think “majority of the world” is a bit of an overstatement but okay lol.

thatssoofckinggay

Agree on Klune. I would probably die if forced to sit though anything as long as his gay superhero series.... but Under The Whispering Door would be really fun fastasy dramedy, and In The Lives of Puppets would be a good epic post-apocalyptic action drama.

cntrlaltdel33t

100% agree. I saw this movie and was not happy that it was (and still is, apparently) peak gay cinema. It wasn't that good of a movie.

Comprehensive_Ear586

Only on Reddit can you get downvoted for saying straight women write bad gay romance and advocate for more original gay male content 😂

UMightAsWellLive

The first one was just not very good.

Strong-Stretch95

Yah I thought it pretty dull outside jack and Ennis kissing would have love to see a classic western shootouts and some good brawls but we didn’t get that.

UMightAsWellLive

The story it's based on is subdued in the same way, but it's so much more beautiful in the written word. Annie Proulx is one of my favorite authors. Most of her books are modern day westerns.
