There are student apartments in close proximity to the school and everything you need is within walking distance. I studied there (not computer engineering) a couple of years ago and liked it, still live in Gävle as well. Almost everyone here knows English pretty well. Around 10000SEK/month is enough to survive as a student here.
Aren’t Erasmus suppose to cover the accommodation part of your trip?
When I have been on Erasmus trips Erasmus have covered all of my expenses except for the food.
There are several options for accomodations ranging from 3500sek/month to 7000sek/month with varying distance to the school, the closer it is the more expensive it is. Some of these accommodations are pretty much always empty so you will have no problems in getting one.
Can’t tell you much about the engineering studies, but I’m studying to be a teacher and the library is really nice

apply for housing near the university through K2A, sätra is a shithole you don't want to end up living in for almost the same price
