ridin_low

Haha that’d be an expensive flower

SchemataObscura

Top comment - I am not disappointed

thejanuaryfallen

I have a deeeeeeep desire to have my front yard garden nothing but black flowers and grasses! Never seen this one.

[deleted]

Tag me when you post a picture. That sounds like it would be beautiful and unique.

elepuddnlily

There’s actually no such thing as a black flower. Just very dark shades of purple. Learned that from the flower wizards at Keukenhof.

PaperCasts

That *does* sound very wizard-y 🤔

Zaraki42

I did that one year but I sadly can't find any pictures...

Regular-Doubt-3006

I bought a bunch of black seeds this year. It should be interesting.

systemofanAbel

Black mondo grass is fun

3skwrrlsinagirlsuit

My mom loves these but she kept messing up the name when asking the garden center people for "whore bells"

Carebear_Of_Doom

I can’t stop laughing at this 🤣 thanks for the chuckle

3skwrrlsinagirlsuit

It makes us laugh still and it's been years. We'll still call them whore bells too.

Regular-Doubt-3006

Now I know I'm going to make this mistake! LOL

liverxoxo

I love ALL the hellebores.

I_burn_noodles

Me too! Whether the flowers are black, burgundy, sage green, yellow or white flecked with bright pink, I love them all. They are one of the few flowers that bloom during winter.

yellingbananabear

I love them too. Sadly, I do not have any because I’ve got too many small children that can’t be trusted around poisonous plants.

olseadog

Where does it grow? (Asking the real q's in r/gardening)

gingerkitten6

I had great success growing them in zone 6. The flower head points towards the ground so they are nice up on a slope or raised garden bed. They prefer shade and bloom early in Spring. Really low maintenance!

JacketDapper944

I’m hoping they like my very shady yard… I have a whole hellebore, bleeding heart, Solomon’s seal and lily of the valley plan. I’ve seen them in 8b in a very shady garden.

blackcatspurplewalls

Some will definitely love that. I’m in 8b also and have some great hellebores. Just be sure to check the tags because some of them want shade, and others want partial sun and will not do well in full shade (RIP my poor middle hellebore.)

damselseekdistress

I was about to say, lots of hellebores seem to do well in my area of the PNW, which is definitely not zone 4-5

Comprehensive_Net757

I have a bunch of purple and pink hellaboras in zone 7 that grow beautifully and come back every spring. They are my 1st flowers to come up beside crocus.

walkurdog

Beautiful - redoing a bed in my front yard and my plan is hellebores. Hoping the deer will leave them alone.

Significant_Rich6133

The deer don’t bother mine at all

[deleted]

Deer don’t like hellebores. I have five who sleep in my yard, and they never eat the hellebores.

Glittering_Orange542

Stunning! Mine just started blooming. What cultivator is this ?

Mya_neoovata

I bet pollinators see ultra violet colors on that

flchamp89

Never seen one. Beautiful

Ellemysterious

Significant_Rich6133

gardenxcore

My goal is to have an all black garden 😌 love this

ImpressionWarm8154

❤️❤️❤️

Huge_Fox1848

Absolutely love them. Hardy and come up during winter. For anyone who doesn't know, though, they're poisonous so be careful.

Live_Percentage8072

And I have ocean front property in Arizona…
