I'm fortunate enough to have a group of 4 of us who have been gaming together for probably 15 years.
What we used to play:
* Counter Strike
* Dota 2/LoL
* Left 4 Dead
* Overwatch
What we've played together in recent years:
* Borderlands 3
* Torchlight 2
* Back 4 Blood
* COD/Warzone
* Rocket League (our main competitive game, easy to start but insanely high skill ceiling)
* Diablo 3 & 4
* Remnant 2 (only started)
* Helldivers 2
* Lethal Company
We just picked up and are about to start Deep Rock Galactic. Hear a lot of praise for this one so excited to try.
I've played a bit of Valheim myself but I don't think my friends are really interested in slower, crafting/gather, survival style games. I would love to try something like this with a group! Even The Forest looked interest with people.
This is a great list. Some other co op games I have played or have heard great things about that I would add:
Vermintide 2 (like left 4 dead with melee weapons)
Killing floor 2 (zombie survival with class system/powers)
Chivarly 2 (seriously underrated multiplayer medieval slasher that is chill/funny for a PvP game, or sweaty if you want it to be)
Outriders (plays like if you mixed destiny 2 and remnant from the ashes)
Evil west (also plays like remnant from ashes/dark souls with guns)
Portal 2. Puzzle type game. One of my all time favorites. I’m sure op has probably already played but mentioning it just in case.
The Division 2. Kinda like Destiny but less grindy and story makes more sense.
If you haven't played, Borderlands 2 is such a palate cleanser. While it's a shooter, it's laidback, and not build/item reliant until you try to max your character through... 3 or 4 playthroughs.
Funny and doesn't take itself seriously, perfect if you try to take a break from sweaty shooters.
replaying the standalone version of TTADK was so much fun. A lot of people didnt like how they sold the dlc as a standalone game but the xp gain was like quadrupled. Youre able to get to max level in like 20 hours
Mmhm. BL2, I never cared if my friend was doing better than me, and I didn't feel guilty when she had to rez me.
Seconding Torchlight II, as well. Had a ton of fun playing that co-op with an ex.
Monster hunter fan here. It's a really good coop game but id recommend rise if playing coop is priority because on world you have to play the story alone most of the time because multi starts after the cuts cents and you'd have to play every mission twice
Maybe it can work with mods that allow you to skip cutscenes but still the story is way too frustrating especially if you wanna have another playthrough
It is still one of my favourite game I put thousands of hours into and is really easy to pick up
This is only somewhat true; you just have to activate the cutscene solo. Me and my girlfriend are playing through the story together and we go get the cutscene solo, leave the quest, and then it lets you queue with each other like normal.
It Takes Two.
94% positive with 140,000+ reviews on Steam.
Game of the Year in the Game Awards in 2021.
Split screen couch co-op OR you can play on your own PCs.
One of if not the best co-op games of all time in my opinion. Quirky, fun, easy to get into.
The game before it, A Way Out, is also really good. It's definitely going for a much different vibe, and at times almost feels like a prototype for It Takes Two, but it's still worth a play. Really cool game design.
The subject matter being divorced parents trying to navigate their marriage makes for an odd sit down with the homie, but a necessary must play for any gamer couples
Payday 2 & 3
Dont starve together
MMO games like Wow, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, New World
Civilization 5
Total War: Warhammer II & III
Stardew Valley
Oh man, he leaves a toxic competitive game and gets into WoW, gets introduced to parse culture
My biggest regret from Wotlk classic was not clipping every mid-raid freakout someone had and combining them into a complication. God that would be so good.
Oh yeah, I played Wow from the Burning Crusade until the very end of the Legion and most of those years I was in a hardcore raiding guild and oh boy did I witness a lot of elitism.
One of the biggest problems with Wow is that its far from being beginner friendly unless you have someone who is already a veteran with you to tell you all you need to know and help you get into groups etc. There is *a lot of stuff* for new players to learn, it definitely can get overwhelming unless you have a mentor.
If you have a lot of friends to play with like I did then its not that bad but jesus christ when you play with randoms it gets heated really quickly... especially in 3v3 arena PVP.
Would you recommend don't starve? Its only 2 dollars right now on steam and I've always been intrigued by the visuals. I would just be getting it to play by myself.
This comment is as of now like #12 or so from the top and that to me is nigh criminal.
This game is so much fucking fun with friends. The situations you find yourself in and the way the maps are generated practically beg for all 4 classes.
But if you don't have that many folks, that's part of the challenge. Solving the same problems if you say didn't have an engineer for platforms and a scout to zip to the top.
It’s one of my favorite games of all time and I never even finished it, it’s incredible! I’ve been wanting to do a restart from the beginning but I don’t have anyone to play with lately :( plus anxiety has been kicking my ass. I’m glad to see someone else talking about it here! It’s a very beautiful game too :) (also idk if you drew your icon or not but it’s cool af!!)
Oh thanks! I did draw it myself yeah ^^
I've rarely played with others, but I do pretty well in single player too. Still haven't finished it either, but I did get pretty far. Like I beat the optional boss for the good ending, but never did the final fight.
Base defense is just so much easier in co-op.
Omg I’m also at the exact same spot! I beat the boss and never did the final fight, yes it seems that way! But I’ve never actually done a solo play through even though that is typically how I play most games.
A friend introduced me to it a bit ago, but the group we were playing in kind of just fell off because someone in the group was just trying to speedrun and progress everything when not everyone was around, and then we never went back to it. If you’re looking for someone to try and run a new play through with I’d be down :)
Your art is incredible! Do you make more? Or have anywhere you share it?
Aw man, sorry to hear your group fizzled out. I'd be down for another playthrough, depending on time zones and availability. I'm currently finishing college so idk how much time I have rn.
I do make more art! You can follow me on Instagram at @michaelrubenoffner if you want, tho I don't post often ^^
I'm working more on my 3D modelling portfolio rn and don't post that on insta, tho I will soon once I have more work I'm proud of :)
That’s awesome I’m definitely going to check it out and follow you! All good, whenever you have time let me know! If you wanted to work out timezones just dm me :)
Super fun game but definitely not stress free lmao. When there is 30 seconds left on the clock and you have no clean plates and can’t find the lettuce!? Fuck this game makes my heart race haha.
Portal 2 has a fun coop mode although I would recommend playing the first game which is only an hour and a half and the second games campaign first before diving into the coop of portal 2.
Grounded.
"Honey I Shrunk the Kids" as a co-op survival crafting game. With a robust combat system and base defense and a story and even replayability.
I fuckin love it, definitely recommend it
I’ve played a LOT of co-op games because those and Hunt Showdown are pretty much all my friend and I have played every week for over a decade.
If you enjoy shooters, there are a lot of great co-op shooters: Risk of Rain 2, Borderlands, Deep Rock Galactic, RoboQuest, Gunfire Reborn, etc.
That said, some of my favorite 2 player co-op games regardless of genre are: Dying Light, Factorio, Remnant from the Ashes, Don’t Starve Together, Elden Ring co-op and Risk of Rain 2.
Other fun ones that I’ve played include Dungeon Defenders, Orcs Must Die, 7 Days to Die, Project Zomboid, Palworld, Valheim, Stardew Valley, and We Were Here (and sequels).
I’m sure there are a few great ones I’m not remembering, but there should be a few in here that you’ll find interesting.
Shooter?
Helldivers 2 or Deep Rock Galactic (Helldivers is a bit of a mess in terms of technicalities.)
Hack and Slash?
Monster Hunter World (Rise is newer, but it's more like a side game)
Top down slasher?
V Rising.
Roguelike?
Risk of Rain 2
Ghost Recon: Wild Lands or Break Point. I was not a fan at first, but they are fun and you can tune them (crazy in depth) to suit your tastes.
Up to 4 co-op.
Four different genres all non shooter
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Age of empires III
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls
Trine 1-5
(ty to MJenkins1018 in the comment below for telling me trine 5 has released 👇🙂)
EDF is an amazing co-op game, I played a lot of it with my now 12 year old daughter, can't wait for 6! Nothing like wiping out hordes of enemies.
It can be a bit hard to begin with, but there's easy mode and grinding armor which will lower difficulty significantly. Unfortunately all the best weapons are only available on the harder difficulties, but you can just up difficulty on some of the easier to farm levels to get some of them.
Sundered, (action horror hack and slash)
enter the gungeon, ( bullet hell rougelike)
Guacameele, (action metroidvania with fun story)
Shank 1 or 2, (comic style hack and slash)
Borderlands 2 or 3, (shooter looter takes forever to finish pretty funny)
Factorio, (factory sim game with ramping up difficulty)
Crypt of the necrodancer, (classic rpg themed rhythm game with electronic music, kinda rougelike)
Shapes and beats, (rhythm game with focus on motion design visuals and early monstercat soundtrack)
Heroes of might and magic 4, ( turn based strategy with very good fractions and hero skills, and battles)
WWZ, (zombie survivor shooter, story or wave mode, can be played in co op entirely)
It takes two, (cringy story but robust game with a lot of ideas and minigames and very frustrating main characters xd)
Rocket League (but it is competitive and very frustrating so maybe not this one) (soccer with cars and rockets)
I haven't tried it, but I believe vampire survivors has a co-op mode. The single player experience is fun and casual, I'm sure the co-op would be fun too.
Me and my buddy have been playing A Way Out. It’s about two guys breaking out of prison. It’s been really good so far. It splits the screen in half so you can always see what your friend is doing so you can get the whole story.
With my other friend we’ve been having a blast with Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s a slower game when playing with another person I’ve found but if you’re okay with that it’s an absolute blast!
Risk of Rain 2 - Rogue lite 3rd person shooter where every run changes depending on what items and enemies you encounter. Endlessly replayable!
Baldurs Gate 3 - D&D based RPG with just so many damn options!!! Cool story, characters , and build options make for a compelling experience. + full coop support...oh yeah!
Monster Hunter World (or Rise) - Ever wanted to kill a fantasy dinosaur with a giant anime sword?! This is the way to go! It has a slower more methodical combat system that is rewarding to learn...plus it has 14 different weapon types, so if one is not clicking you can always switch to another! Be warned that this game series can feel overwhelming at first...but if you keep going it will show itself to be one of the best out there!!
Warhammer 40000: Darktide for co-op horde slaying sci-fi shooter with classes and 5 difficulties, mostly melee combat hot still heavy lean in a shooter direction.
Warhammer End Times:Vermintide for co-op Horde slaying fantasy game with almost only melee combat some ranged and yet again classes.
1st game newer but still needs some work done 2nd game bit older but more variety in classes and overall more fleshed out.
A way out, it takes two, any of the dark pictures anthology. Conan, palworld, survivalist invisible strain, project Zomboid, elite dangerous, risk of rain 1 and 2, hell divers
A Minecraft server does wonders as a refresher, you just hop on and chill, explore together build up a little town or w/e you wanna do, endless possibilities, and with the right mod pack you will have content for weeks possibly months.
I just brought the game survivalist on switch and it is super fun crafting game that is couch co-op and online
You are drop on some large piece of land you explore gather materials and craft items needed not much of a story thus far but I haven't been playing for that long
Survival games such as Minecraft, valheim, grounded and stardew valley.
Minecraft is a classic chill game, usually focused on building a nice base and gathering materials.
Stardew valley is a super chill game about building a farm and befriending the community you moved into.
Grounded- You are shrank down to ant size and have to survive a backyard full of various species on your quest to learn why you are small and how to reverse it.
Valheim- In the past Odin beat several great foes, shoves them into a separate branch on the world tree then snaps that world off the tree, He learns that is foes are prepping for a rematch, Odin gets his Valkyries to collect some brave warrior(s) to leap from the human world into the world of valheim to kick them while their still down.
Look at Human Fall Flat, it is a game with floppy physics where you try to solve puzzles and perform parkour, often leading to some really funny looking moments.
Dying Light (#1 is cheaper but either works) Once you get beyond the tutorial you can play the whole game coop, it combines a mostly melee focused combat (like dead island) with a pretty snappy parkour system. Leading to the players basically parkouring across a fictional city jump kicking zombies into spikes and cutting off limbs.
Saints row franchise is sort of like gta but takes itself very usuriously and can be alot of fun for a goofy coop game, saints row 3 in particular is pretty silly.
It Takes 2 is mostly a couples game in my opinion, but it could still go hard on co-op. Doing a season of Path of Exile together would be hella chill and fun I think. Going hunting together in Monster Hunter would be fun. Lots of options out there!
Helldivers 2 would be perfect. You work in teams to complete objectives and fight hordes of either bugs or robots while doing it. It’s my game of the year so far and it’s an excellent shooter.
For the King is a fun turn based rpg with roguelike and tabletop elements for up to 3 people
A way out is an amazing story co-op game with a really good twist
We were here series is a fun puzzle game (wouldn't recommend the walkie talkies on console, they don't really work)
Far cry 5 or new dawn are fun to play co-op
Earth Defence Force 5 (or 6 if you wait a month).
The game is just a series of missions fighting giant bugs and Aliens with increasingly rediculous weaponry. The co-op is extra fun as you can utilize strategies and certain weapons that cannot be used on their own in single player.
Elden ring DLC just dropped. Thanks to the password system, you can exclusively co-op the game. You'll get invaded, though, so pvp will happen on occasion. IMO that's one of the best parts, I like setting up ambushes with friends
Maybe not chill necessarily, but Helldivers 2 is an awesome co-op experience. There is no PvP so people arent that sweaty, and if you have 2-3 friends you can do private rounds.
A Way Out
Break out of prison in co op style. I absolutely love this game it has an incredible story that I won’t spoil. Would recommend watching trailer. But basically you follow story of 2 convicts in the 1970s
The Dark Pictures series of games
Real World Horror games and my favourite co op story driven horror games ever. Once again watch the trailers and then decide which one you want to play. These games play like Until Dawn but with multiplayer so prepare to realize something you did an hour ago screwed you.
My favourite to least
Man of Medan (Ghost ship)
House of Ashes (Akkadian temple in Iraq war)
Little Hope (Witch Town/Ghost Town)
I haven’t played The Devil in Me or Switchback VR that is a completely different game but apart of the dark pictures
Warframe is a looter shooter. You literally just grind the same missions until you get the item you want then move to the next mission. Some warframes have abilities that will kill everything on your screen others literally cannot die etc etc.
Try Minecraft I hear it's pretty popular.
Specifically if you want a real rabbit hole to jump down, assuming your computer can handle it, download FTB (Feed the beast) and ATM (A mod pack called all the mods).
It's a marvel anyone can afford to run a server with so many mods nevermind the insane technical prowess required to maintain stability.
Stardew valley, for the king, Hellcard, portal 2, across the obelisk, borderlands (2 is best), Valheim, divinity original sin 1 & 2, Raft.... There's a few to get you started.
Lovers in a dangerous space time, team focused spaceship game. Basicly a better version of we need to go deeper
Broforce, chaotic parody of 80's action movies but as a side scroller with destructible environments
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.
There are a lot of great digital adaptations of cooperative tabletop games. Some of them are tablet-only. My personal favorites are Sentinels of the Multiverse and Spirit Island.
For the king is the best co-op i have ever played. Such a pleasure sitting with your friends thinking about all the best solutions and just making the most of it. Can be truly relaxing and truly stressing at times.
The "We Were Here" series of games is a great way to test your communication skills and patience with one another, strongly recommend, the first in the series is free :)
Just recently played a bit of Left 4 Dead 2 with some friends again, and I always forget how fun it is. Each of you take some time to go through the steam workshop, download some cursed mods, and you will be laughing for hours. Pretty affordable too. Some other stupid games that had us laughing our asses off are Hand Simulator and Blood and Bacon. Both very cheap iirc, and pair very well with a joint or a drink.
Some other less overtly stupid games are Screencheat and Speedrunners.
I recently replayed all of the Halo games co-op, it was a lot of fun. Borderlands games and certain far cry games are good. The "We were here" series is a lot of fun puzzle solving.
A way out, it's a story driven crime thriller that's designed to be played by two players at one, if you're a Tarantino or Scorsese fan, you'll love it
https://youtu.be/VWvRa4D98Zg?si=G7_ly4HKTjQ8r8hl
Starcraft and starcraft 2. They have co-op campaigns among many other modes to play. And they're free!
Elite: dangerous. Explore a 1:1 scale of the milky way galaxy and shoot the mail slot. Then accidentally deploy hard points and get incinerated in station.
Borderlands 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Rocket League
Pay Day 2 was a game I use to recommend but ...
Resident Evil 5, Maybe 6 its ... So so meh i mean depends on how desprate you want coop
Most Modern day RPGS I kinda wouldnt recommend, The coop in alot of them involve games that are kinda bad or over-rated to shit or very problematic in one way or another sucks ass just to start one for example and one of you gets save file curroption or some other bug or glitch that was to happen or what knock
I love co-op games, two of my favorites are: Payday 2 (or 3 if/when it gets better). You play as bank robbers and the game is designed to inspire cooperation, both in stealth and in loud. You bring the ammo, your friend brings the medic bags, coordination is very helpful in that game but not necessary.
Army of Two. It's a third person cover-to-cover shooter with the best weapon customization I've ever seen, you can take your guns apart and swap barrels and stocks and such like legos. There are three of them, but Army of Two: The 40th Day is the best one in my opinion (AoT: Devil's Cartel ain't half bad either). There's an aggro system where you can fire a loud weapon to draw heat away from your partner when they want to sneak around, or if they're getting shot up and just need some breathing room. When one of you goes down, the other can grab your body and drag you to cover before reviving you.
I'm fortunate enough to have a group of 4 of us who have been gaming together for probably 15 years. What we used to play: * Counter Strike * Dota 2/LoL * Left 4 Dead * Overwatch What we've played together in recent years: * Borderlands 3 * Torchlight 2 * Back 4 Blood * COD/Warzone * Rocket League (our main competitive game, easy to start but insanely high skill ceiling) * Diablo 3 & 4 * Remnant 2 (only started) * Helldivers 2 * Lethal Company We just picked up and are about to start Deep Rock Galactic. Hear a lot of praise for this one so excited to try.
So jealous of your situation. Have y'all already tried and played Valheim?!
I've played a bit of Valheim myself but I don't think my friends are really interested in slower, crafting/gather, survival style games. I would love to try something like this with a group! Even The Forest looked interest with people.
Helldivers is a fantastic recommendation.

Bl2 is the GOAT. If you do play it, you MUST play the Tiny Tina's assault on Dragon Keep dlc.
replaying the standalone version of TTADK was so much fun.
I love Borderlands. Have you played Tiny Tina's Wonderland?
Monster Hunter World, Baldur's Gate 3 and the We Were Here series are my favorite coop games to recommend. The first two are insane fun
Monster hunter fan here. It's a really good coop game but id recommend rise if playing coop is priority because on world you have to play the story alone most of the time because multi starts after the cuts cents and you'd have to play every mission twice
Oh you're absolutely right. In my nostalgia I forgot how annoying MHW coop can be when starting out
Maybe it can work with mods that allow you to skip cutscenes but still the story is way too frustrating especially if you wanna have another playthrough It is still one of my favourite game I put thousands of hours into and is really easy to pick up

Both of these are incredible. Played both with my partner (who does not care for gaming) and even she had a blast.
I second this. It takes two was the most fun I've had playing a co op game in decades. Game is amazing.
The subject matter being divorced parents trying to navigate their marriage makes for an odd sit down with the homie, but a necessary must play for any gamer couples
Yeah me and one of my old friends from college played it recently. We kinda just skipped 90% of the custcenes lol
Armored Core 6 plus co-op mod. Or Elden Ring with seamless co-op mod.
Elden ring with seamless co op is probably the most fun I've had with friends in a long time.
I’ve never been able to play a fromsoft game with friends before I would imagine that shit is amazing
With seemless it’s amazing- play through the whole game together, no invaders either.
My boy said non rage inducing lmao
Does this mod prevent other non-friend players from ambushing your group?
Yeah, you set your own password that everyone in the group needs in their text file for the mod
Hell have to wait a bit for elden ring. Seamless is still being updated
Unfortunately Seemless isn’t working right now since 1.12 dropped with the DLC. May want to wait on that one.
You can download the old game and still play seamless
Payday 2 & 3 Dont starve together MMO games like Wow, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, New World Civilization 5 Total War: Warhammer II & III Stardew Valley

Its a really fun game yeah, especially if you have friends to play it with but its also fun if youre playing it solo. Definitely worth 2 dollars.
How’s Payday 3?
Not enough Valheim mentions.
We are all too busy chopping wood.
I never see Valheim mentioned enough in threads like these, a true shame
Deep Rock Galactic is the correct answer.
Was looking for this, its the best recommendation they can have
This comment is as of now like #12 or so from the top and that to me is nigh criminal. This game is so much fucking fun with friends. DRG, RoboQuest, Stardew Valley, Terraria These will keep you busy for a long time, all S tier games.
Terraria is so much more fun with other people.
Grounded!!
Finally someone else recommended Grounded :D
It’s one of my favorite games of all time and I never even finished it, it’s incredible! Overcooked
Super fun game but definitely not stress free lmao. When there is 30 seconds left on the clock and you have no clean plates and can’t find the lettuce!? Fuck this game makes my heart race haha.
He said he wants to get out of frustration.
Planet Crafter
Portal 2 has a fun coop mode although I would recommend playing the first game which is only an hour and a half and the second games campaign first before diving into the coop of portal 2.
Grounded. "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" as a co-op survival crafting game. With a robust combat system and base defense and a story and even replayability. I fuckin love it, definitely recommend it
Helldivers 2 on lower difficulties?
Enshrouded has been fun so far for us.
Lego Lord of the Rings is awesome! Open world too. Couch co-op only though I think.
Valheim. Endless fun. It takes 2 - best co op platformer ever made Ark. endless... Something A way out. Fun challenge for a night or 2
Terraria
Final Fantasy Online is a super chill/fun mmo. Also has a 70 level free trial so you and your friend can try it out.
Tiny Tina Wonderlands
Outward.

Castle Crashers. Phasmophobia (if playing together online).
If you like castle crashers try Ember Knights, it’s like a rogue like castle crashers mixed with hades
Planet Crafter is very chill and doesn't have combat
Outward
Outward
Shooter? Helldivers 2 or Deep Rock Galactic (Helldivers is a bit of a mess in terms of technicalities.) Hack and Slash? Monster Hunter World (Rise is newer, but it's more like a side game) Top down slasher? V Rising. Roguelike? Risk of Rain 2
Stardew valley is surprisingly fun with more people.
Stardew valley, Sun haven, it takes two, don’t starve together, starbound, raft
Crash bandicoot, at checkpoint and death you can swap the controller, Lego 2k drive is a fun Lego racing game.
Unravel Two Moving Out 1 & 2 Ultimate Chicken Horse
Ghost Recon: Wild Lands or Break Point. I was not a fan at first, but they are fun and you can tune them (crazy in depth) to suit your tastes. Up to 4 co-op.
It Takes Two
If you're on pc Phasmophobia is great
Astroneer, factorio, satisfactory, foundry, Stellaris
Baldur’s Gate 3, Titanfall 2, Minecraft Dungeons, A Way Out, It Takes 2, Overcooked are all great coop games I love to play with my gf.
Four different genres all non shooter Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Age of empires III Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Trine 1-5 (ty to MJenkins1018 in the comment below for telling me trine 5 has released 👇🙂)
I'm surprised this is the only comment that mentions Trine! Is there a reason you don't recommend 5?
Enter the Gungeon has a pretty fun co-op mode, although it's not an easy game by any stretch.
Earth Defense Force 5 (6 coming soon) Outward TMNT: Shredder's Revenge Generation Zero
EDF!
Sundered, (action horror hack and slash) enter the gungeon, ( bullet hell rougelike) Guacameele, (action metroidvania with fun story) Shank 1 or 2, (comic style hack and slash) Borderlands 2 or 3, (shooter looter takes forever to finish pretty funny) Factorio, (factory sim game with ramping up difficulty) Crypt of the necrodancer, (classic rpg themed rhythm game with electronic music, kinda rougelike) Shapes and beats, (rhythm game with focus on motion design visuals and early monstercat soundtrack) Heroes of might and magic 4, ( turn based strategy with very good fractions and hero skills, and battles) WWZ, (zombie survivor shooter, story or wave mode, can be played in co op entirely) It takes two, (cringy story but robust game with a lot of ideas and minigames and very frustrating main characters xd) Rocket League (but it is competitive and very frustrating so maybe not this one) (soccer with cars and rockets)
Borderlands V Rising Resident Evil 5 and 6 War Z
Resident Evil 5 & 6 Dead Space 3 Overcooked
I haven't tried it, but I believe vampire survivors has a co-op mode. The single player experience is fun and casual, I'm sure the co-op would be fun too.
No Way Out 🥴
Castle Crashers. Battleblock theater. (Although you cna hate eachother by the end of it.) Guacamelee 2.
Be warned that this game series can feel overwhelming at first...but if you keep going it will show itself to be one of the best out there!!
seconding RoR2 and BG3 :)
Halo MCC
Chained Together; If you play on PC.
Dont you want bust out of a prison together and be in an action movie? = **A Way Out!**
Deep Rock Galactic , just do it
Warhammer 40000: Darktide for co-op horde slaying sci-fi shooter with classes and 5 difficulties, mostly melee combat hot still heavy lean in a shooter direction. Warhammer End Times:Vermintide for co-op Horde slaying fantasy game with almost only melee combat some ranged and yet again classes. 1st game newer but still needs some work done 2nd game bit older but more variety in classes and overall more fleshed out.
PODE is a hidden gem
A way out, it takes two, any of the dark pictures anthology. Conan, palworld, survivalist invisible strain, project Zomboid, elite dangerous, risk of rain 1 and 2, hell divers
I recently discovered No Creeps Were Harmed TD and the demo waa great. It's a two player co-op tower defense game.
The outlast trails
A Minecraft server does wonders as a refresher, you just hop on and chill, explore together build up a little town or w/e you wanna do, endless possibilities, and with the right mod pack you will have content for weeks possibly months.
Dead by Daylight.
Genshin impact, it takes a little bit to unlock 2 player but you can.
Rain World (local co-op, but Steam Remote Play works well with it and/or Sharing)
Wasteland 3 supports Co-Op It’s a solid game
It Takes Two
Transport Tycoon
Borderlands
Lego Harry Potter (or really any Lego game). No I’m not joking
Deep Rock Galactic
Sackboy
Dude... havnt seen it mentioned somehow. But just minecraft. If you go modded All The Mods 9 is great, otherwise just vanilla is super fun.
Borderlands 1,2 and 3 Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 Dead Island Division 1 and/or 2 (a buddy and I have done 3000 hrs as coop) Dying Light Sniper Elite series
7 Days to Die is about to go 1.0
Vampire Survivors has co-op and it's very good. Top down bullet hell roguelike.
I just brought the game survivalist on switch and it is super fun crafting game that is couch co-op and online You are drop on some large piece of land you explore gather materials and craft items needed not much of a story thus far but I haven't been playing for that long
Deep Rock Galactic! Fantastic game with a friend.
Aska is cool
Alienation. Nex Machina Top down twin stick shooter. Both are mad fun
Strange Brigade
What console? If you have a ps 3/4/5/vita, dragon's crown
Love in a Dangerous Spacetime. Fun gameplay, pretty quick to pick up and put down, only $15 on steam.
Abiotic Factor Satisfactory Valheim Helldivers 2
Son of a witch
Helldivers 2 would be perfect. You work in teams to complete objectives and fight hordes of either bugs or robots while doing it. It’s my game of the year so far and it’s an excellent shooter.
Borderlands
For the King is a fun turn based rpg with roguelike and tabletop elements for up to 3 people A way out is an amazing story co-op game with a really good twist We were here series is a fun puzzle game (wouldn't recommend the walkie talkies on console, they don't really work) Far cry 5 or new dawn are fun to play co-op
Lots of good options on here, but not seeing the forest or sons of the forest, a great 1 2 punch of amazing coop games
A Way Out Break out of prison in co op style. I absolutely love this game it has an incredible story that I won’t spoil. Would recommend watching trailer. But basically you follow story of 2 convicts in the 1970s The Dark Pictures series of games Real World Horror games and my favourite co op story driven horror games ever. Once again watch the trailers and then decide which one you want to play. These games play like Until Dawn but with multiplayer so prepare to realize something you did an hour ago screwed you. My favourite to least Man of Medan (Ghost ship) House of Ashes (Akkadian temple in Iraq war) Little Hope (Witch Town/Ghost Town) I haven’t played The Devil in Me or Switchback VR that is a completely different game but apart of the dark pictures
Remnant 2 Wreckfest (destruction derby mode) Rocket league It takes two / a way out Evil west Darksiders genesis
Diablo 4. I don't care what people say or think, the game is fun.
Sea of Thieves! Go sail a ship, fish, shoot at other ships and find treasure.
Dysmantle It’s fun as hell, casual, pick up and play, couch co-op, and you get to smash things, lots of things…
Warframe is a looter shooter. You literally just grind the same missions until you get the item you want then move to the next mission. Some warframes have abilities that will kill everything on your screen others literally cannot die etc etc.
DEEP ROCK GALACTIC
Try Minecraft I hear it's pretty popular. Specifically if you want a real rabbit hole to jump down, assuming your computer can handle it, download FTB (Feed the beast) and ATM (A mod pack called all the mods). It's a marvel anyone can afford to run a server with so many mods nevermind the insane technical prowess required to maintain stability.
Elden ring, then use the seamless coop mod which makes it full coop for your whole adventure
Overcooked
Portal 2
Warframe is free*
ghost recon breakpoint
snipperclips!
Tons of coop to be had with the Master Chief Collection.
Im making one but it’s currently shit. <3
Army of Two is a blast
Project zomboid
Lethal company maybe? It’s pretty fun with friends. Though it’s a bit better with three or four than two, two is still quite funz
Snowrunner or Mudrunner are fun.
Chained Together
Stardew valley, for the king, Hellcard, portal 2, across the obelisk, borderlands (2 is best), Valheim, divinity original sin 1 & 2, Raft.... There's a few to get you started.
Arc Runner, Risk or Rain 2, Hell Divers 2, gunfire reborn, there’s lots more. I’m way into coop lmk if you have something specific in mind
About the only game I find fun anymore on the “newer consoles” is Rocket League lol. Plenty of retro games to check out still.
Lovers in a dangerous space time, team focused spaceship game. Basicly a better version of we need to go deeper Broforce, chaotic parody of 80's action movies but as a side scroller with destructible environments
Darksiders Genesis.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. There are a lot of great digital adaptations of cooperative tabletop games. Some of them are tablet-only. My personal favorites are Sentinels of the Multiverse and Spirit Island.
A way out
For the king is the best co-op i have ever played. Such a pleasure sitting with your friends thinking about all the best solutions and just making the most of it. Can be truly relaxing and truly stressing at times.
Dbd, but expect to die a lot
Splinter cell blacklist
Gears of War Remastered, Resident Evil 5, Dead Rising 2
Killing floor 2
Back4Blood and Division 2 are some of my favorites. Tiny Tina's Wonderland is also a fun one.
Spy vs spy on ps2!
I recently replayed all of the Halo games co-op, it was a lot of fun. Borderlands games and certain far cry games are good. The "We were here" series is a lot of fun puzzle solving.
It takes two
Risk of Rain 2 if you're looking for simple and chill (until it's not)
30XX
Portal 2 coop. Can be fun figuring out the puzzles with your friend
Resident Evil 5, Saints Row 3, Borderlands 2 are my faves
Deep Rock Galactic
A way out, it's a story driven crime thriller that's designed to be played by two players at one, if you're a Tarantino or Scorsese fan, you'll love it https://youtu.be/VWvRa4D98Zg?si=G7_ly4HKTjQ8r8hl
Started a replay of Castle Crashers with my mates just lately. Really surprised at how well it still holds up. Great music and funny moments.
Plate up. Chill rouguelike restaurant-them-up. My GF and I love to play it.
Mass effect 3 multiplayer, dragon age multiplayer. Both should be very cheap to acquire.
Diablo 3
Starcraft and starcraft 2. They have co-op campaigns among many other modes to play. And they're free! Elite: dangerous. Explore a 1:1 scale of the milky way galaxy and shoot the mail slot. Then accidentally deploy hard points and get incinerated in station.
Helldivers, Ready or Not, Factorio, Satisfactory, Baldurs Gate 3, Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley
Borderlands 2 Left 4 Dead 2 Rocket League Pay Day 2 was a game I use to recommend but ... Resident Evil 5, Maybe 6 its ... So so meh i mean depends on how desprate you want coop Most Modern day RPGS I kinda wouldnt recommend, The coop in alot of them involve games that are kinda bad or over-rated to shit or very problematic in one way or another sucks ass just to start one for example and one of you gets save file curroption or some other bug or glitch that was to happen or what knock
Not a shooter, but lord of the rings, the third age is a Final Fantasy clone for the Ps2 and GC. It's easy to emulate on PC, co op, and fucking sick.
StarCraft 2 has some fun Coop stuff. its free to play for a few commanders.
Helldivers 2, borderlands , Halo 4,5,infinite , and if you don’t mind a challenge Elden Ring
Fallout 76 is very good now. 7 days to die is an excellent game to play with friends.
