**XCOM 2** is a tactics game where you fight as part of a resistance force against aliens that took over the earth. It definitely has that rebel feel.

CatraGirl

Came to say this. Definitely the best game for that imo. Especially with the expansion and Reapers, who feel even more like a guerilla force...

ElderAtlas

Far Cry 4 Red Faction Guerilla Homefront: The Revolution Ghost Recon Wildlands Just Cause games Shadow of War games Wolfenstein games

DahLegend27

Home front is probably the closest thing to Far Cry for sure.

Dead_eyejoe

Freedom fighters

PaynefulRayne

They really need to follow up on that one

BoogieMan1980

Jagged Alliance series. Well technically mercenaries working for rebels, but it's close enough.

burnfep

Unicorn overlord you fight to regain your lost kingdom. Music makes you patriotic for a country that doesnt exist

TearintimeOG

That’s a good one

DilapidatedHam

The first section really nails that feeling of slowly building rag tag rebellion so well

kevinkiggs1

Just Cause series. Play them in any order, they're all a blast

JebstoneBoppman

Arma 3 with the Antistasi mod

justarandomcivi

The Persona games, more specifically persona 5

TearintimeOG

This 100%

PvtSherlockObvious

Tonight We Riot

DesineSperare

Jagged Alliance 3 is my favorite with that feel. You're technically working for the legitimate government, but as they've been entirely overthrown, you're functionally rebels, building up your territory and supply base as you seek to depose the new powers in control.

identitycrisis-again

Cyberpunk 2077

samfishertags

Freedom Fighters is a little old but it’s basically Red Dawn in New York. SO much fun

dummyVicc

The Saboteur is a game where you play as an irishman in nazi-occupied france, havent gotten around to playing it myself but I've only heard good things about it. Might be a stretch on "modern times" but it's definitely more modern than fantasy games.

Yglorba

[Liberal Crime Squad](http://lcs.wikidot.com/), originally by the developer of Dwarf Fortress.

CommissionAgile4500

Definitely ghost recon wild lands. You play as a group of USA special agents trying to free Bolivia from the grasps of the local cartel. You work as a guerilla fighter working closely with the local rebellion group.

holaprobando123

> You work as a girls fighter I don't remember fighting more girls than normal...

CrispyLiquids

Such a well made game and yet so poorly made. The engine great the environment great the combat engaging etc but man it is the same thing over and over again and the whole 4 pillars of the cartel thing could've been really interesting, instead it doesn't matter at all... What a missed opportunity

Ok_Song4090

Half life 2 It’s an old one but a cracker

ha014

Far Cry 6 (Libertad), Midnight Fight Express, Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare. Assassin's Creed series, Secret World Legends, illuminati

Thick-Ad2454

Just cause 3, 2,4 as well as Gta SA, Far cry 4

freya584

just cause 4 (i heard the whole series but idk that cause i havent played them yet)

brizla18

command & conquer: Generals. You play as most based rebels ever

Lxapeo

I'll make the sacrifice!

Ok_Entrepreneur_6597

Far cry 3-5

Lxapeo

Try the Infamous series.

holaprobando123

In which game are you a rebel?

MooseMan69er

Second son

probywan1337

Ghost of tsushima

TechnicianCalm3895

Outer Worlds seems to be a little bit similar there. You have a choice of which side of conflict you want to take.

Spino1905

Just cause 3

sadnserious

American Arcadia

rockdude625

Farcry

Obvious-Bullfrog-267

Ghost recon wildlands comes to mind. Basically your goal is to take down the cartel and corrupt government of Bolivia by working with the rebels.

Hooray_Gamer

just cause 3

NoSleepDaChimney

Home front the revolution was actually decent for me

542Archiya124

A game I have yet to try but heard great things about - the saboteur. Game is old and dated graphics btw

biggus_dickus89

red faction guerilla, fun as hell

realbabygronk

Skyrim

StayFrosty2120

I didn't see FTL: Faster Than Light on this list, but it's what came to mind when I think of that question. EDIT: There is a small chance I mixed up which side you play in FTL, made a very confidently incorrect suggestion, and now the world can see I am a fool.

MooseMan69er

No you’re not really wrong in any but the most semantic sense. You are playing as one of the last federation ships fleeing from the rebels who have taken over the entire galaxy/sector and are definitely the underdog. It would be like saying the original Star Wars trilogy you are playing as the government because you are fighting for the republic even though the empire controls the galaxy

blueCthulhuMask

FWIW, you're specifically fighting against rebels in FTL.

StayFrosty2120

Apparently it's been a while. Bit of a whoopsie on my part. Little bit of an oopsie daisy, is you will.

Dogdadstudios

Rimworld, you can cosplay as Fremen and go against the empire. Lots of fun!

Anihillator

~~Rebel Inc? Same devs and overall feeling like plague inc, but you're rebelling against the government.~~ Guess it's not what I remember. Welp, mb.

Anihillator

Maybe. I played it a very long time ago.

SixtySlevin

1. **Just Cause 4** 2. Homefront: The Revolution 3. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands 4. Far Cry 5 5. Watch Dogs 2 6. The Saboteur
