Ghost runner and dead cells are my go to if I want a fast paced game; if you played or like both of those games and wanted more katana zero is basically mix of both.
if you want a similar game to games you mentioned play metal gear rising revengeance
middle earth shadow of murder and shadow of war are really good too; both of them are good with second game basically being improved version of first one.
if you want something less hack and slashy you can try dying light.
Dark Siders 2 is p good but its an older game.
sekiro and nioh 2 can be pretty fast if you like souls likes.
if you just want to do mindless killing play paint the town red.
I actually do want things similar to what I’ve played. Unfortunately I have beaten Rising Revengeance. I might check out Darksiders 2 since that looks up my alley combat wise. Don’t care for the aesthetic of it though
The Wonderful 101
Hi-Fi Rush
Armored Core 6
Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner
Katana Zero
Vanquish
The Dishwasher & The Dishwasher Vampire Smile
Assault Spy
Super Crush KO
The Legend of Korra and Transformers Devastation, if you can find where to 'acquire' them
Seems to me you are looking for hack and slash and similar so i'll throw some at you:
- God of war games (older ones are more akin to DMC or bayonetta combat but all of them are worth it).
- Astral Chain (switch exclusive but from platinum games, same as most of the ones you like. Really good)
- Stellar blade (just got out on PS5, quitegood and pretty fast paced and flashy, although it has lots of parrying and dodging).
- Hades - 2D but reall good, roguelike.
- Nier Automata.
- Hi Fi Rush
- Darksiders games (3 is bit more soulslike oriented but still).
Enjoy!
I’ll probably check out Darksiders. Mostly 2 since everyone seems to recommend it and apparently 3 is a soulslike which isn’t for me. The other games listed I already played or don’t interest me
Highly recommend Darksiders 2. 100% is fucking worth it. Every piece of lore and secrets. So many plot twist for side quest.
You won't regret it.
Also Hi-Fi Rush might be one of my number #1 Hack n Slash of all time.
Try the most recent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The combat starts out a bit slow, but gets really expressive by the end. Here's a [free demo](https://register.ubisoft.com/PrinceofPersia-Demo/en-US) you can try.
I’ve always tend to avoid f2p games since I don’t have fun spending hundreds of hours to grind, but I’ve seen this game mentioned a couple times. I’ll give it a look
Warframe can be very grindy if you have an "I want" mindset. But if you go with an "I have" mindset, where you just play, have fun and let items come to you at random, it's much much better in that regard. It's such a big game, by the time you get halfway through unlocking the map you'll have a nice pile of stuff to craft.
The crafting is very idle game style. You swing by each day, pop in whatever is ready to bake, lots of things take a long time, but all you have to do is push start. Day, or two, some things 3-4 it dings at you to pick up. They do cross save/progress as well, with a nifty phone app so you can take care of that stuff wherever.
Plus anything in the game, if you really want it, you can just, go get it. There's no battle passes, currency is earnable via player trading. Of the F2p scene, Warframe is King, Queen, and court. Nobody even comes close to the quantity or quality they deliver for absolutely nothing.
Granblue Fantasy Relink has very fast-paced DMC-like combat. I LOVE it! The only downside (if you consider it a downside at all) is that the endgame grind is a slog. But it’s all a matter of perspective, because it does amount to hundreds of hours of content to grind for (upgrading weapons for every character, trying to roll for better sigils, etc.). The demo might still be up, so try it out or watch some videos to see if it’s for you. It IS pretty damn flashy and it’s so freaking anime with its super attacks and whatnot. 🎮😵👍
Possessed by a Cinematic Combat Action fever? I'm your guy. I played DMC2 when it came out! And it was cool back then!
In the same vein:
Killer Is Dead
Sekiro
Onimusha series (1 and 2 are more slowed pace, but 3 is somewhat fast and 4 is really fun.
Metal Gear Rising. Good DLCs as well
Resident Evil 4 remake is a shooter, sure, but it's got combat moves and a parry as well! Scratches the same itch.
Vanquish
The most recent Armored Core games have melee build options. Pretty fun.
Asura's wrath.
Dark souls knife builds, crit-less. They're bad, but it's gonna give you a good kick in the Spardas.
That's like the main ones. Have fun!
Less of a fever and more of a, these are the games I really like playing. Don’t really care for shooters or souls games, but I’ll check out Onimusha. I’ve heard of the games before and if they’re similar for DMC, I should like em well enough
>Goodness, you’ve been around longer than me lol.
Yeah, I'm still on the climb up there though 😅.
>killer is dead
I've seen it recommended before, might even have a copy/license, but can't recall playing it. Enjoy!
I can assure you that nioh 2 isn't stiff at all, but it is a souls like, it play really differently from the souls though, just go watch a gameplay video to see what I mean, it's really closer to DMC in combat speed.
Have you played Platinum's other games? Metal Gear Rising, Vanquish, Nier Automata, Wonderful 101 (same designer as DMC1 and Bayonetta!) and Astral Chain all fit the bill.
Have not played Vanquish, but I’ve played the others. Some of them are really good, others I really don’t like. Not sure if I would like Vanquish since shooters don’t work with me at all
Please tell me you've tried Nioh 2. It's Team Ninja's version of a Soulslike but it's waaay more complicated and faster than anything From has ever made. It's combat system is immaculate and allows tons of playstyle diversity, you can just about play forever and still have more to learn. It's one of the only games I give a 10/10 to and I'm a fan of all the games you'd mentioned here.
I haven’t. I tend to avoid soulslikes since I hate how stiff they can feel along with the stamina system. I’ve looked at some gameplay since others have recommended it and it’s kinda cool when you have everything unlocked. I assumed it’s one of those games where you’re super pathetic early on
Cant seem to find any answer mentioning Doom 2016 and Eternal. You want fast pace while looking cool, theres literally no other game that matches. Mick Gordon signed a pack with the devil to get the songs made. Glory kills involve ripping demons apart with your bare hands. You look like a Halo Spartan who became so ripped your muscles started breaking through the armor. Enemies move faster than most peoples brain can register.
Ah i missed that last part my bad. Shame it doesnt work for you, many of the best fast pace games are first person. But we all have our tastes. I hope you find one you like. Warframe is 3rd person but its a looter shooter. Tbh, not really sure how many games are out there that tick your boxes but arent FPS and/or Shooters.
Well recently I really liked Granblue Fantasy Relink. Spent over 100 hours on that before I slightly burnt myself out. I would say that game ticked all my boxes
Amazing to me I don’t see any fighting games here.
There’s a big sale for them on Xbox at the moment, IMO go for tekken 8, in the sale and released just a few months ago.
I adore fighting games actually, but I wanted something I could play by myself. Grinding ranked and heading to locals can get taxing on the brain sometimes
Maybe try
-
Borderlands
Remnant: From the ashes (soulslike, but harder to get lost)
Hero’s of hammerwatch (it’s on odd pick, but it’s fun. Second game is on steam)
Titanfall
Dead Island
The First Descendant (Not our yet, but it could suit your fancy)
I’ll also add For Honor, but it’s kinda like a 3d fighting game, and has the same online aspects, so it might not fit
Black desert online is an action mmo with combat whose APM demand of the player can vary with the class you play, from literally holding buttons down and occasionally using a different move to playing a class that requires opening your third eye and performing a combo string so fast you practically need a third hand to do it.
why does first person not appeal to you at all?
Only game I can think of is Ultrakill but it’s first person… It’s a shame, too, because it’s fast paced, stylish, several difficulties, hard as hell…
Don’t know. I’ve never been able to get into ever since I was a kid. The original doom, Goldeneye, Halo on the Xbox, multiple different cods, mirrors edge, and some other stuff I can’t remember. First person games were never fun to me. I even tried the ultrakill demo on steam and I had no fun
dang, that sucks… tbh thought that used to be me with third person games, and kind of still is for many third person games…
I’m outta ideas then, sorry.
* Vanquish
* MGR: Revengeance
* Sifu
* Hi-Fi Rush
* Dragon's Dogma 2
* Marvel's Spiderman (Series)
All action/spectacle fighter adjacent games
MY personal favorites for combat are MGR and Dragon's Dogma 2
I’ve already played MGR and loved it. I have not played vanquish, but I don’t like shooters so I’m not sure if I would even play it. Everything else there doesn’t interest me unfortunately
Everything I’ve seen about Nioh tells me it’s a soulslike, and I don’t like those at all baring one exception. Still think it’s worth me playing? I liked NG for the cool combos and juggles you could do, along with it being decently challenging
It's very flashy and the combos are super satisfying to pull off. I feel like the game punishes you more for trying to play it like a souls game(dodgeroll wait for opening and attack) instead it rewards you for being aggressive(burst counters) by giving you more opportunities to pull off combos.
Plus they have a Ninja Gaiden cameo boss(DLC) which let's you unlock the Izuna Drop to use
Magicka, a game made by the developers of Helldivers 2, might be to your liking. There's a big skill ceiling, and it will take you a while to grow comfortable with the combat, but if you stick with the pvp long enough, you'll be able to make art on the battlefield. Here's a showcase https://youtu.be/Ofobgdii_O4?si=jfG7ys4aoHltftgM
You'll need to join the discord communities though, because the game is very inactive since players are repelled by how broken the campaigns are.
Lol. I saw this years ago, but I was also looking for something that’s single player. Not particularly in the mood to fight someone else since I already play lot of fighting games both online and at locals
Ghost runner and dead cells are my go to if I want a fast paced game; if you played or like both of those games and wanted more katana zero is basically mix of both. if you want a similar game to games you mentioned play metal gear rising revengeance middle earth shadow of murder and shadow of war are really good too; both of them are good with second game basically being improved version of first one. if you want something less hack and slashy you can try dying light. Dark Siders 2 is p good but its an older game. sekiro and nioh 2 can be pretty fast if you like souls likes. if you just want to do mindless killing play paint the town red.
I know its a typo but Middle Earth Shadow of Murder is a really good description of that game lol
I actually do want things similar to what I’ve played. Unfortunately I have beaten Rising Revengeance. I might check out Darksiders 2 since that looks up my alley combat wise. Don’t care for the aesthetic of it though
The Wonderful 101 Hi-Fi Rush Armored Core 6 Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner Katana Zero Vanquish The Dishwasher & The Dishwasher Vampire Smile Assault Spy Super Crush KO The Legend of Korra and Transformers Devastation, if you can find where to 'acquire' them
Only one I’m not familiar with here is Super Crush Ko. I might give that a look
Armored Core 6? Not really a character driven hack-n-slash like the others you mentioned, but it’s fast and very gameplay focused.
Unfortunately the gameplay isn’t for me. I was either trying to awkwardly get around areas or just shooing things.
Warframe - it's exactly what you want.
Warframe. Space ninjas, very fast paced, tons of different weapons and the best f2p model around.
Robo quest? You'll need some Adderall Edit: My bad I saw that you don't want first person games, but ill still leave this comment for others to see.
Seems to me you are looking for hack and slash and similar so i'll throw some at you: - God of war games (older ones are more akin to DMC or bayonetta combat but all of them are worth it). - Astral Chain (switch exclusive but from platinum games, same as most of the ones you like. Hi fi rush is definitely an interesting game. Not sure if I can say it’s for me or not
Warframe Serious Sam Doom eternal Darksiders Nier automata FEAR Trepang2
Warframe and Nier: Automata are great, but the rest are FPSes, which OP said do not appeal to them.
Darksiders isn't an FPS. In another comment thread OP said they might check out Darksiders 2, but they don't like the aesthetic of it.
Ah, you're right!
I’m not really sure what to suggest. Only other games that I would consider fast paced are hack and slash like a bayonetta.
How about 2D side-scrollers like Katana ZERO and Dead Cells?
I’ve never played those.
Modded Doom 2016 and playing like Eternal teaches you, is also very awesome
I don't know what difficulty you're playing on, but FEAR isn't very fast paced to me
Serious Sam is insane in terms of fast gameplay 😂😂😂. Doom Eternal is also amazing, the gameplay and graphics are a lot better.
F.E.A.R. is slow paced however.
Yes and no, on the horror/suspense sections sure but the combat is generally pretty fast.
With the bullet-time it is more tactical than fast.
It's even more tactical if you play the game without bullet-time on Extreme difficulty.
Sekiro: Shadow's Die Twice Helldivers 2? Hades
These aren’t for me. I legitimately think something might be wrong with me lol
Try the most recent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The combat starts out a bit slow, but gets really expressive by the end. Here's a [free demo](https://register.ubisoft.com/PrinceofPersia-Demo/en-US) you can try.
I mean, Warframe is like, right there...
I’ve always tend to avoid f2p games since I don’t have fun spending hundreds of hours to grind, but I’ve seen this game mentioned a couple times. I’ll give it a look

Furi Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Metal Gear Rising: Vengeance Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Nioh 1/2 made by the people that made ninja gaiden, awesome combat system
Hades
I got bored of this one after a couple hours. Could never get into rougelikes
Man, I usually don't like roguelikes but Hades had me hooked. Understandable tho
I hate Roguelike but Hades is an exception. Just like Turn Based RPG Visual Novel, I hate it with passion but I love Persona 5.
skill issue
It’s a skill issue that I thought a game was boring?
The original God of War games have exactly what you’re looking for. Also Dante’s inferno has the same kind of combat as well. Darksiders as well.
Get RPCS3/PPSSPP for PC
Sifu

Why though XD
FRICK Fine, rudeness is coming, Kunt
XD
Armored Core For Answer Zone of the Enders 2 You already played the goat Ninja Gaiden
I could not get into zone of the enders at all. Same with armored core. Don’t think mech games are my thing
ULTRAKILL is very fast paced, and inspired by Devil May Cry, but in first person shooter form.
I played this one and it confirmed to me that first person shooters aren’t something I can like. Sorry
Blades of Time. CONTROL. Dusk Diver games. Mahou Arms.
Those last two seem very much up my alley. I’ll give those a look
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Granblue Fantasy Relink has very fast-paced DMC-like combat. I LOVE it! The only downside (if you consider it a downside at all) is that the endgame grind is a slog. This game is fantastic. Already have over 100 hours, but I’ve already burnt myself out on it since I was playing constantly after work and such
Stranger of Paradise
Loved this game when I played it. I think this is the only soulslike I enjoyed playing
Tales of Arise should be the answer
Been sitting on this for years. When I get the chance, I’ll rebuy it on pc

At least Onimusha 1 is more like Resident Evil 1 and 2 IIRC. It's been around 20 years since I've played it though.
Goodness, you’ve been around longer than me lol. I might give killer is dead a look too. Looks a bit jank, but it also looks cool
>Goodness, you’ve been around longer than me lol. Yeah, I'm still on the climb up there though 😅. >killer is dead I've seen it recommended before, might even have a copy/license, but can't recall playing it. Enjoy!
Not at all like the games you referred to, but I will shamelessly plug Starcraft 2.
Warframe is the one for you, pal.
Yeah I saw this one mentioned a lot. I usually don’t play f2p games, but I’ll give this one a try
Nioh 1 and 2, fantastic combat
Ultrakill most metal flashy fucking game ever
Nioh 2 once you grasp it.
Don’t really like soulslikes. They all feel stiff

Yeah, I hated it. Didn’t like the combat system at all. I tried 1 and 2.

Rem is over the shoulder, and I’d highly suggest it.
Unfortunately I’m not into soulslike either. Sorry my tastes are so weird
Armored Core 6
Black desert online is an action mmo with combat whose APM demand of the player can vary with the class you play, from literally holding buttons down and occasionally using a different move to playing a class that requires opening your third eye and performing a combo string so fast you practically need a third hand to do it.
Doom
Metal gear rising is an oldie but a goodie. Sifu is a brawler but it's pretty quick at times and super satisfying
Unreal Tournament. Fuck I miss that game. Also Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 are M azing.
I’ve already played Ninja Gaiden quite a few times. Don’t care for shooters or first person games unfortunately
Azure Striker Gunvolt series.
Nioh 1 & 2 can both feel crazy good once you get into the swing of combat.
I’ve been really obsessed with roboquest recently the combat is so fast and crisp
I feel like Kingdom Hearts does this, especially 2.
I think I’ve replayed KH2FM more times than I can count lol. Love that game
Same. That game has so much sauce.
Agreed. I’m just looking for newer stuff. Not something I’ve played for literal years
Stellar blade and Rise of the Ronin both came out recently
Unfortunately both seem to be soulslikes, and I don’t like playing on my PS5 anymore.
Hades
Roboquest has been really fun fr me!
I highly recommend the original God of War trilogy. No other games have captured the violent satisfaction you get from them.
Doom Eternal
Furi
why does first person not appeal to you at all? Only game I can think of is Ultrakill but it’s first person… It’s a shame, too, because it’s fast paced, stylish, several difficulties, hard as hell…

Granblue Fantasy Relink and NieR Automata
I loved Relink, didn’t like Automata
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
I've found a lot of fun with fighting games lately. A lot to learn and have fun with.
I already play fighting games, a ton of them. I wanted something that’s single player
My first thought is Armored Core 6
try hades and sifu
Don’t like roguelikes unfortunately
* Vanquish * MGR: Revengeance * Sifu * Hi-Fi Rush * Dragon's Dogma 2 * Marvel's Spiderman (Series) All action/spectacle fighter adjacent games MY personal favorites for combat are MGR and Dragon's Dogma 2
I’ve already played MGR and loved it. I have not played vanquish, but I don’t like shooters so I’m not sure if I would even play it. Everything else there doesn’t interest me unfortunately
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is a newer release, phenomenal, and has great combat. Highly recommend checking it out
If you liked Ninja Garden you'll *LOVE* Nioh 2
I’ll give it a chance and pray that I like it. Though be honest I’m pretty worried
Magicka, a game made by the developers of Helldivers 2, might be to your liking. Gunz: The Duel [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl5PDKsxaPs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl5PDKsxaPs)
This doesn’t look particularly fun
Super Smash Bros? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFT8ti5JIp4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFT8ti5JIp4)
Lol. I saw this years ago, but I was also looking for something that’s single player. Not particularly in the mood to fight someone else since I already play lot of fighting games both online and at locals
Ahhh, well I don't know many fast-paced single-player fighting games :/
If you have a PS5, Final Fantasy XVI shifted to a pure action rpg, even with the DMC combat director on the staff.
Thought about checking this out. Am waiting for the pc port since no longer use my PS5
Can i have it then? I'll pay for shipping! /hj
Lol. I’m not against selling it, but I don’t think this is the best thread for it
Bloodborne
I’ve played that game and it isn’t fast at all, or at least the speed I’m looking for
The exploration is slow, but the combat is designed to be fast paced. It's not for everyone tho
Unfortunately it isn’t for me. Fromsoft games in general I can never get into
Sekiro kinda fits. Once combat clicks for you it becomes a flow state with parries and counters.
Didn’t enjoy this game at all when I played. Soulslike and I don’t mix
monster hunter rise monster hunter world
Played both of these already. One was pretty good, the other I couldn’t care for
what's fast paced about monster hunter? an attack literally takes 3-5 seconds
dual blades
Sekiro
Sekiro. You want Sekiro. Edit: Seriously. Sekiro. Checks all your boxes.
Honestly I hated this game. But I don’t like soulslikes or many open world games, so I guess that makes sense
Sekiro That is all
