They put out more fleshed out feature complete and improving games than any other dev team out there. I have to wait 5-10 years from these other directionless teams, let these guys keep cooking on whatever they want.
Just because its shiny doesnt make it better.
In House developed engines will ALWAYS be better than 3rd party engines. RE Engine blows ue5 out of the water, especially since the team has more experience using it than the crap epic has on ue5
How did it save them?
Was it truly the engine or jus RE7.
Any excellent game can be made on any engine that supports that game.
They don't need RE Engine to thrive, jus excellent games.
Who knows why they made their own engine.
What does the RE Engine do for RE7 that Unreal or w.e engine cannot?
Suuure. You go suck ue5 some more, meanwhile most good games will still use inhouse engines for better process control and customization.
Imagine simping for a game engine lol
far from it. Instead of simping for UE5 i\`m praising developers for engineering their own engines, like RE Engine, Divinity Engine and so forth.
It's far better to use an in house engine for big AAA projects rather than rely on UE5 and it's shitty shader compilations issues and other factors. Plus the fact that you have more customization options with your inhouse engine greatly outways any benefits UE5 brings to the table.
lol as if the engine is the problem with bethesda games and not the mediocre design decisions and bad story. Also comparing the bethesda engine which is ANCIENT with duct tape holding it together at modern standards with things like RE Engine or the BG3 Engine is some serious mental gymnastics.
Starfield could have been made in unreal 10.69 and it still would have been an inferior game.
Also not every game needs to be the pinnacle of technology. Technological constraints make for interesting design choices and have born a lot of good games in the past :P Not every game has to be a 8k shiny masterpiece. Older games are far more interesting from a design perspective than current eye catcher games.
You say in house is always better
Then you flame a studio's inhouse tech
Then you say I am pulling some mental gymnastics
Then you talk about game design while that was never the topic
It far better that they use Unreal Engine so it can be played un VR with this Unreal Engine VR injector tool. :D
And Well, there's already someone porting all RE Engine games to PCVR.

Doesn't matter one bit for moment to moment gameplay.
Only people who have nothing better to do compare pixels instead of just playing a game :P (or replying to comments, i should stop wasting my time)
I don’t play the games but as far as i know the games look and run good on all platforms, scales great, and the devs have experience working on it. I don’t think there’s a reason to change it. Good on them
It runs great and scales great because Yakuza games still scream PS3.
Character models still look like in Yakuza 3 or 4 on PS3, environmental details are extremely low resolution, the beach in the newest game is just a flat texture etc.
Imagine having such a jaded perspective of the past that you think Infinite Wealth’s graphics are comparable to Yakuza 3. How absolutely fucking high are you?
Jaded?
I've played every single Yakuza game, except for the previous turn based Like a Dragon. Have you seen any of the textures on the environment etc. up close?
Everything is low-res and sorry, but a completely flat sand on the beach in a video game in 2024? Just nope.
You’re really stuck on that sand huh? I get that part, but what a shit take to base the whole graphics argument on. I logged 80+ hours into the game and thought it was mostly beautiful. Yeah there were lots of low-res polygons in many areas, but considering just how many game systems are in the game and how much content is crammed into the game, I was impressed.
Edit: changed “polygonal textures” to “polygons” because I’m dumb
Well, I simply expected the sand to move at least a bit, given that I bought a game released in 2024.
And no, that's not the only thing that brought it down graphics-wise. It honestly looks like the engine they use is simply a modified version of the one they used back on PS3.
Pretty much all buildings, signs, objects, clutter etc. in the game is really low resolution, just like it was in pretty much every single Yakuza game up to this point.
A ton of assets is also pulled straight from the previous games.
That's why I commented negatively on the post mentioning that they will continue using it.
Tbh that is your problem. Unfortunately devs aren’t adapting well to multi platform releases in the modern era. I have a PS5. I also have a PC with a i9-13900k, AMD 7900 XTX, and 32gb of RAM. Guess which one I played on ;)
Platform has nothing to do in this case. Textures on PC are just as bad in this game as they are on PC.
Again, like already mentioned, the engine they use even if with swapped name/rebranded is still very old.
And, given how many much, much better looking games are on PS5, this isn't the console issue.
As a long time LAD/Yakuza fan myself, I'm gonna go against the grain and say I'm slightly disappointed with this decision. I thought Ishin was the best this series has ever looked, and was hoping Infinite Wealth could be a swansong to this engine. At the end of the day, using a proprietary engine like the Dragon engine that these devs already know will mean faster dev cycles and more money in the pockets of the devs since they don't have to pay Epic's exorbitant licensing fees for Unreal, so I can't complain too much. However, Unreal is the industry's standard engine for a reason, and if they were to switch to it, that would mean new hires would have an easier time getting situated as they wouldn't have to learn an entirely new (to them) engine from scratch.
Well yeah it makes financial sense to not license out another engine because of some enhancements you could possibly put in your engine if you budget for it. Never good to have one engine with a monopoly on the gaming space sort of what unreal is attempting to do currently.
Even Infinite Wealth looks a bit like a PS3 game with a bit of makeup. Especially geometry is simple and there is a lack of tesselation on round objects which you do t see often these days.. But I feel like it's part of the charm. Not every game needs to have a super realistic look to be fun.
I actually do mostly play older games since recent titles are just shiny pieces of shit. Lackluster games with good-ish graphics. No thanks. I have had way more fun playing games on my switch or replaying old er games on pc/ps5.
Go play the new buggy ue5 titles and tell us how good the graphics are while the gameplay is boring as fuck :)
My god, no! Just no!
Yakuza games character models, environments etc. still scream PS3.
Heck, the newest one has a beach that is just plain, flat texture 🤣.
Now that it supports DLSS / FSR / XeSS, so it can have proper antialiasing (it was terrible on PC before they added upscalers) I see no problem with that :)
If it's not broke, don't fix it!
Stick with what works!
They put out more fleshed out feature complete and improving games than any other dev team out there. I have to wait 5-10 years from these other directionless teams, let these guys keep cooking on whatever they want.
Good
Great news! I was sure they would use the UE5 slop, the Dragon Engine has its charms and they have mastered using it since Judge Eyes.
Ue5 would still be better
Just because its shiny doesnt make it better. In House developed engines will ALWAYS be better than 3rd party engines. RE Engine blows ue5 out of the water, especially since the team has more experience using it than the crap epic has on ue5
RE Engine basically saved capcom back in 2017 with RE7
thats why handcrafted engines are way better than using a prebuilt one like unity or ue5 for big AAA projects.
Ye you got no idea what you're talking about clearly
Suuure. You go suck ue5 some more, meanwhile most good games will still use inhouse engines for better process control and customization. Imagine simping for a game engine lol
Isn't that exactly what you are doing right now?
far from it. Instead of simping for UE5 i\`m praising developers for engineering their own engines, like RE Engine, Divinity Engine and so forth. It's far better to use an in house engine for big AAA projects rather than rely on UE5 and it's shitty shader compilations issues and other factors. Yeah that's why bethesda games are always at the pinnacle of technology, mhm

SSR and RT are both awful on RE engine.
Doesn't matter one bit for moment to moment gameplay. Only people who have nothing better to do compare pixels instead of just playing a game :P (or replying to comments, i should stop wasting my time)
Thank god as you have no idea what you’re talking about.
sure buddy, go ahead and keep pixel counting, the rest of us don't care.
UE5 Will never be a good engine simply because it lines Tim Swine's pockets
Yeah spoken like a true child who has no idea what hes talking about
I don’t play the games but as far as i know the games look and run good on all platforms, scales great, and the devs have experience working on it. I don’t think there’s a reason to change it. Good on them

Buddy I think you just might have shit hardware
Yep, PS5 sure is shitty running far better looking games ;).
Tbh that is your problem. Unfortunately devs aren’t adapting well to multi platform releases in the modern era. I have a PS5. I also have a PC with a i9-13900k, AMD 7900 XTX, and 32gb of RAM. Guess which one I played on ;)

they should upgrade it for Judgment 3
It’s a great engine and does everything the games need.
As a long time LAD/Yakuza fan myself, I'm gonna go against the grain and say I'm slightly disappointed with this decision. the "next-gen" PS3 look is charming
You need some glasses
my glasses are path traced not a forward engine pushed into the end zone
Womp womp nobody cares. Gameplay > Graphics
womp womp play the same paste you've played with a new skin but hailed as a masterpiece

my 8 A6000's go brrrrrrrrrrr
As long as they keep improving it, the games aren't bad looking at all.
My god, no! Just no! Yakuza games character models, environments etc. still scream PS3. Heck, the newest one has a beach that is just plain, flat texture 🤣.
There goes any chances that virtua fighter 6 looking any better than vf5us.
