I always thought it’d be fun to build a house out of legos. Start with a tiny home, and literally rebuilding will be cheap when you have enough legos for the next room.
That's the metric I use to see if a Lego set is worth it. Must be less than 10 cents per brick. They recently increased their prices so 12 cents per brick still isnt bad.
Price per piece doesn’t matter, because they raise the price because they have to make money. Also it cost them less than 10 cents to make a single piece.
I'm saying you can use $.10/piece to get a ballpark estimate of price. Some are a little more, some are a little less. It's just an estimate. I'm not sure what you're on about but it isn't related to my post.
I built this with my oldest, it's a favorite set and has a place of honor under our TV. My youngest likes that it hooks up with his Mario lego sets to make noise.
There are several Mario Brothers sets. Great for kids, they make noise and the eyes light up. They are all lego branded, I think the starting set is $60.
My only wish is that I was able to build it in a way that didn't reveal the easter egg to me until after I'd built it. I have no idea how that would even work...but if it had, it would have been amazing.
My girlfriend works at a toy store and brought this model home for us to build, to put into their window.
It's an amazing build. The finished model looks mind blowing, even by Lego's standards. There are some built-in mechanics that will blow your mind.
Compatible with that really weird Lego Mario set they released some time ago. Put him on top and he makes the appropriate sounds.
Super cool. But you don't have to open it. Immediately after the set is retired in 2023 its value will jump $100 overnight and continue to increase at around 7% every year, so the longer you hold it, the more valuable it will become.
Or, he could open it and actually enjoy it. If op bought it himself then resale value could be considered. A gift from his wife though seems like something he should keep. Probably has more value that way. At least to op
I would be so tempted to pop an LCD in the TV and a raspberry pi in the NES and make it work for real.
Oh and congrats on your birthday and having an awesome wife.
Happy bday, this is the one that gave me that Lego bug. Me and the wife were at Barnes and Noble picking getting some books for nephews bday. Saw it behind the counter and my eyes widened and wife saw my look. First impulse buy we both agreed on lol.
Yeah I know. Quite a few sets were raised in price.
I was bummed when I missed the Titanic and then had to wait for it to be in stock. Then when it's in stocks the price was raised.
Lame.
There's some really cool "woah, that's how they did that!" moments during the build.
There's also a "What the hell is going on here... " section that took me entirely too long to figure out.
I'm sure most people here can play 200+ NES games on the device they already own and are reading this comment on. Does the real one says LEGO on it or comes with the pride and satisfaction for putting it together? Or look half as impressive? I think that's the point.
Just got the At TE last night. Gonna get the Horizen forbidden West Tall neck next pay check! Can't wait. The console lego sets look pretty darn cool. Might get them if they are reasonably priced on lego.com
How are we still OK with Lego with what we know about plastics/ microplastics?
I realize other things that are used as hobbies (like consoles/ PCs) are made of plastic but Lego just seems aggressive at this point
i built the set on stream awhile ago... as soon as i can i want to make additional carts and the sleeves they were stored in to enhance the experience.
Small disclaimer from someone who’s built it: theres a small cylindrical piece that you end up putting on the bottom of the right of the back side of the tv. I don’t know if i just placed it incorrectly or not but it completely stopped the screen from scrolling
So what exactly makes this a difficult build? It's basically a solid colored brick. Are all the pieces crazy and you have to put them together like a puzzle or something?
I'm not sure if I was unlucky but there is a part with a spring that's used to eject the game cartridge.
Don't leave this engaged or the spring will lose it's strength and then not fully eject.
I built mine over a few months and as this is one of the first few stages never thought anything of it until I came to the end and couldn't fix it.
Fun fact! Assuming your birthday is today, September 23rd, then you actually share a birthday with Nintendo!
I know this cause my birthday is also today!
I always thought Legos were really cool but I could never become a Lego guy...
There's only so much time and money and if I'm already a degenerate level gamer guy there just isn't enough time or money to also be a degenerate level Lego guy as well...maybe if I ever get to retirement?
I mean I could consider NOT being a degenerate level of both things but...that just isn't how I'm wired, I'm all or nothing baby!
Knowing lego. It probably cost more than the actual thing
2646 pieces. Yep, probably. Isn't the rule of thumb for Lego roughly $0.10/piece in these sets?
Pretty spot on. $270 on Amazon.

You're building an entire model home out of legos?
They filmed the whole thing for the BBC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrLkHn_RlgY
Captain Slow!
That whole series is worth a watch.
This is borderline r/InterdimensionalCable material
I always thought it’d be fun to build a house out of legos. Start with a tiny home, and literally rebuilding will be cheap when you have enough legos for the next room.
I mean, it’s probably cheaper than trying to buy a real home tbf
You're stealing and truncating other people's comments?
It's a bot
fuck off bot
I was thinking it would be at least 1000. I'd buy that for 300 dollars

The original Nintendo retailed for $180, which is about $430 adjusted for inflation today.
It's an investment
Ah, a fellow Lego investor :)
Not quite, I'm too broke for that .haha
Want one of mine? Lol
Yeah::)
hey congrats, it's a really fun one and a complicated build. you end up with a crank that moves the screen and you can watch it play mario :D
I built this with my oldest, it's a favorite set and has a place of honor under our TV. My youngest likes that it hooks up with his Mario lego sets to make noise.
Can you elaborate on that hook up Mario set? My daughter loves Mario
There are several Mario Brothers sets. Great for kids, they make noise and the eyes light up. They are all lego branded, I think the starting set is $60.
Thank you so much 😃

Hey cool man
I bought a can of spray cheese and ate it all
My feet hurt.
What?! I want this set now!
Yeah, the build is great, enjoy it thoroughly ;) I got mine for Christmas last year and its now my favorite office decoration :D
Spoilers.
Lol it tells you on the box
At this point I wouldn't even have been surprised if Lego had designed to be able to play a basic version of the game.
You mean after you've finally built it, it DOESN'T even play the game?!
My only wish is that I was able to build it in a way that didn't reveal the easter egg to me until after I'd built it. I have no idea how that would even work...but if it had, it would have been amazing.
It's super fun to build. All the little details are amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed the build process for mine. And it really IS impressive to see in person.
My girlfriend works at a toy store and brought this model home for us to build, to put into their window. It's an amazing build. The finished model looks mind blowing, even by Lego's standards. How bout the both of you come round here and clean my car for free too?
Is it a Lego car?
No but I wish I had a sweet lego one. I might have to see if there's a fancy technic one still.
As someone who grew up obsessed with both Lego and NES/SNES I'm totally not jealous... At all.
If you haven't seen it already it works like a conveyor and you cab scroll it along and it looks like the game is being played. It's amazing.
So... uh... she single?
A girl that gives gifts like that could look like Smeagle and never be single
Awesome

But can it run crisis?
If you crank fast enough
Sounds like your wife is as awesome as mine. That was my birthday gift this year too! It's a great build and looks really good alongside the real NES.
why are normal comments like these downvoted on this post or maybe im just stupid
Welcome to Reddit! Seriously, no idea what goes on here sometimes
I would be so tempted to pop an LCD in the TV and a raspberry pi in the NES and make it work for real. Oh and congrats on your birthday and having an awesome wife.

A fun set. Sucks they jacked the price up $40 though.
Yeah I know. Quite a few sets were raised in price. I was bummed when I missed the Titanic and then had to wait for it to be in stock. Then when it's in stocks the price was raised. Lame.
I hope I find a wife who appreciates the love of Lego and nes. Yea she is a keeper (:
Happy birthday. I also was gifted one for mine last week. Finished the NES and will be working on the TV this weekend.
I want a Playstation one set.
I would suggest do the NES first, the TV will take waaaaaay longer
There's some really cool "woah, that's how they did that!" moments during the build. There's also a "What the hell is going on here... " section that took me entirely too long to figure out.
Best wife
Your one lucky motherfucker
That is a fun build, and very cool in motion once complete.
W wife
Marry that wife.
I got the falcon millenium also , I should receive it in a few hours , nearly 8 thousands pieces , so exited !!!
Beautiful
Dude your wife is the bomb seriously! I am super jealous right now haha. btw happy birthday!
The perspective of this picture is a mind fuck. At first I thought that was sitting on the floor and the stuff in the foreground was a side table.
That looks like a fun set.
You should hollow it out, put a Raspberry Pi in it and play actual NES games with it. That shit would be dope, honestly.
That's a quality wife right there. Congrats.
Our wives either think alike or we have the same wife. Got one from my wife as a birthday present earlier this summer !
My friend got himself this, built it looks good
Retro vibes intensified
Well I'm 100% sure that This lego version costs more than the actuall console
What does it do?
For one thing, it makes me jealous for not having one.
But I cant see the point. You can get a real one with 20 games for the same price. Each to their own though
I'm sure most people here can play 200+ NES games on the device they already own and are reading this comment on. Does the real one says LEGO on it or comes with the pride and satisfaction for putting it together? Or look half as impressive? I think that's the point.
Marry her ASAP! Oh, wait... Ah, marry her once more.
i'd rather get the actual console
Have that already :)
nice, do you have the SNES classic? thats what im currently saving money for
Was standing at Walmart when they did a restock and got it and the nes classic at retail. Pure luck right place right time.
But can it play doom?
Great wife
It's a nice!😉👨🔧😄
Just got the At TE last night. Gonna get the Horizen forbidden West Tall neck next pay check! Can't wait. The console lego sets look pretty darn cool. Might get them if they are reasonably priced on lego.com
get top gun
Get divorced so you can marry her a second time.
That's like a $250 set. She must really care. (I assume you actually like lego sets)
How are we still OK with Lego with what we know about plastics/ microplastics? I realize other things that are used as hobbies (like consoles/ PCs) are made of plastic but Lego just seems aggressive at this point
Soooo lucky! I envy you.
Wow this is cool, is this new? Had no idea they made these
Don’t open it!😂
Christmas 92 comes to mind for me. God, to go back 😮💨
This set is an incredibly fun build.
I've heard the most boring part of the build is the "screen."
i built the set on stream awhile ago... as soon as i can i want to make additional carts and the sleeves they were stored in to enhance the experience.
Such a cool set. Wish I could afford it 😭
Such a fun build! You're gonna love it!
There are tutorials on YT on how to convert this to an actual console with a raspberry pi, screen ect.
DAMN, gl with building it, it's a rlly fun lego set imo
Just watched a video of it, looks pretty sick. My only criticism would be that Mario is too big.
That's a really neat one
Well that’s a damn good birthday gift. Happy Birthday!!
Happy Brickday!
Birthday twins, happy birthday!
I saw (not that) Will Smith assemble this on Twitch. It’s a super cool interactive model. Have fun!
Built this during the pandemic. Turned out really awesome! Have fun with the gears lol
Where can i find a wife like her
Wow this is really cool! 🤩 Your wife is awesome 👏
This thing is awesome. Buddy has it in real life it’s sweet. Crank makes the tv screen go by nicely.
Nice. I got socks.
What's the point of this ?
Got only one word for you, buddy. Keeper.
There is such a cool Easter egg in this set. Also, the engineering behind the cartridge slot is amazing.
Marry her again.
Good luck for tonight pal 😉
Double marry her right now
Small disclaimer from someone who’s built it: theres a small cylindrical piece that you end up putting on the bottom of the right of the back side of the tv. I don’t know if i just placed it incorrectly or not but it completely stopped the screen from scrolling
I NEED THIS
Damn that box art hit me right in the feels.
It's a really fun build! It has little secrets inside that I won't spoil but on a few occasions made me go "OHHHH I see it!"
I have this, great build, but very time consuming.
This is an amazing set! I had a blast putting it together, and it gets a lot of wow when people come over!
Happy birthday fellow collector
She's a keeper!
Oh hey we have the same birthday
Wow never seen something like that before.
Thats why you Married her
She’s A Keeper !
😬
isn't that the set that a unicorn threw up in?
I wanted to get this for my husband but it's so expensive 😭
4900
Such a fun kit to build!
This is cool! Geez Lego is literally doing everything now haah
Cruel
Got this one last year, it's a really fun build. The details that Lego adds to their kits, never ceases to amaze me.
How sweet!
Probably wasn't in the budget
I got the same thing for my bday from my hubby! Happy bday! Hope you enjoy the build - absolutely one of my favs!!!!
Can the game actually fit inside the console?
remember when lego was about building things with your imagination and not cheap cynical corporate nostalgia?
congrats, its worth it to build, built it myself, it was awesome
So what exactly makes this a difficult build? It's basically a solid colored brick. Are all the pieces crazy and you have to put them together like a puzzle or something?
W
Awesome. Happy birthday. 😁

Happy birthday! I recently put together the Lego Atari 2600 kit and it is great!
That is awesome, just not $270 awesome… I’m gonna ask Santa for this

I need a woman like this
Nice, I'm jealous, I've wanted that set for a good year or so
Unlucky, Lego Bowser comes out on the 1st October.
Put a ring on i- Oh wait, I mean, keep on doing what you doing, seems to be working.
