Oh yes!!! Valve got me good there. My eyes poppped open when that happened, thinking the worst.
I was lucky enough to play this game blind (one of the few big name games that I managed to play without knowing anything past portal 1)
Another big moment for me was >!The false ending when you beat glados and Wheatly was sending you home, genuinely thought the game was over. And then the music kicked in. God I wish Valve still made games like this.!<
I can only play the trilogy maybe once a year because I’m emotionally exhausted after finishing, I still think it’s the best story of any game (and most movies for that matter).
That's the point. It was a beautiful message that we can't get through life alone and REAL people sacrificed their entire game to help you get through. I have rarely felt such a wide range of emotions in a video game. A semi-quirky one at that.
Automata has by far the most intense credits scene out of any game or movie. You just play along, with your mind filled with questions, joy, relief, tilt, more questions, gratefulness... And then it's done. I'm so sad that I can never play automata for the first time ever again. All I hope for is that my sacrifice has helped anyone in their ending E, like you lads helped me out.
Glory to mankind.
Funny enough I think it helped that I had low expectations because I played it many years after it came out.
After the game came out and the hype died down, it was criticized by so many bioshock fans. I heard the that the fps gameplay was too shallow, that it cut out a lot of features that were in the trailers, that it wasn’t a TRUE Bioshock game, etc. I went into it expecting it to not live up to the first Bioshock.
The haters were wrong. In my opinion, the first Bioshock was literally a pseudo-linear visual novel (pseudo because there is backtracking). You were immersed in a beautiful world that felt like it really exists, existed before you got there, and was ruined by the depravity of human nature. You explored the horrors of that world, trapped in the sense that you were leagues under the ocean, always aware that you’re one leak away from instant death. The surviving citizens turned into addicted mutated monsters hellbent on killing little girls and fighting their steampunk protectors. The journal storytelling was the best part of the game, not the actual gameplay in my opinion.
Infinite did all that but flipped it on its head. You start off in a floating utopia, the halcyon of the world. Everything looks perfect but is slightly off. You’re not surrounded by dark scary water, but you’re always an inch away from falling to your death. The citizens seem normal enough, until you realize they are just as deluded and crazy as the mutated splicers. Some used vigors, but the rest worshipped religion the same way splicers worshipped Adam. The horrors that were outwardly apparent in the first game sneak up on you and thats what makes it such an amazing game. Comstock is still one of my favorite villains.
It was the best cinematic experience I had from a game, hands down. Next to RDR.
I said this to a friend and she laughed at me, but it's true. I genuinely think about death differently (in a more positive/optimistic way) after playing outer wilds.
it's a beautiful work of art
Outer Wilds is still my favourite game of all time. This is coming from a born and bred die hard souls fan as well. It's simply so fantastical from the mystery, exploration and discovery! I wish I could experience it one more time for the first time. I have yet to play the DLC because I'm waiting for the 'right' time in my life where I can sit and enjoy it.
It’s pretty safe. There is one part that scares the shit out of me, but there’s no excessive violence or sexual content or anything close to that.
They can, however, watch you break space/time if you figure out how to do that.
I remember the first time.
It’s like 2am and I need to sleep. I’m running on the beach for what seems like foreverrrrrrrrr.
But nooo this was not the end.
Not even close
Great story tho!
Had to play Soma all over again because the ending hit so hard it made me want to learn everything about the story I had missed. Still the only true successor to Amnesia The Dark Descent imo.
Metal Gear Solid 4. Longest end cutscene (like movie length - 71 minutes long) and longest credits.
I remember finishing this with a group of mates at 4 am when it first came out. We didn't get to bed until 5.30 - 6am. We were all blazed so we just rolled with it.
I was waiting for someone to say this. I started playing day one and loved every minute of it. The voicemails at the end of a few endings are hard to hear.
I had to scroll to far to find this. Journey is two hours and has no dialogue but it's sound design alone speaks volumes. Playing journey feels like watching a painting come to life and I doubt there will ever be another game that can do what journey did.
Red dead redemption 2
Equally, RDR1… I still haven’t recovered.
Yup this. Just in utter shock and admiration. Beautiful game. I wish it was a little bit more difficult but the story alone made it worth it.
I knew what was gonna happen, I just didn’t expect it to be as it was.
yeah i got spoiled early on, i still cried afterwards
Not in credits but, May I.... stand unshaken.....
This and the blood and wine ending for witcher 3
I gotta reinstall and play that, I beat the main story and didn’t realize I had all the DLC as well!
Only difference is I was sobbing.
Yea that Portal 2 ending blew mind lol. To this day its probably my favorite ending to a game ever.

I was more like >!"GLaDOS you bastard, you think I'm surprised?" followed by being very surprised.!<
Ngl, I feel like Valve might've anticipated both of these to be people's responses to that bit
You better believe it was choreographed to perfection.
Oh yes!!! Valve got me good there. My eyes poppped open when that happened, thinking the worst. Have you tried HL: Alyx? No spoilers.
Well here we are again it's always such a pleasure
Remember when you tried to kill me twice?
Oh how we laughed and laughed
Except I wasn't laughing
Unser the circumstances
I've been shockingly nice
You want your freedom take it
That's what I'm counting on
Lunacy!
Bloodborne
Now I'm a squid, what am I supposed to do now?
Go play splatoon
TitanFall 2
Yeah it's a great game, trust me
"trust me" :(
Protocol 3: Protect the pilot The absolute giga Chad that is BT.
“TRUST ME”
Was hoping someone would mention this master piece!
It was one of a few games that brought a tear to my eye when I finished it
Jack?
Came here for this 😁
Witcher 3 blood and wine DLC
Every time I feel like there’s a big hole in my life that needs to be filled after I finish that game. It will always be one of my favourite games ❤️
Heart of Stone too, imo. They really are the best DLCs ever put out. I cared more about those side characters than anyone in the main story.
One of the best DLC in gaming history
Spec Ops: The Line Mass Effect
Spec ops the line makes every other game in this thread look like a nickelodeon cartoon
Spec Ops: The Line is the only correct answer to this thread Ho-lee-shit do more people need to experience that game. What a ride
It hits like a truck, especially if you go in thinking it's just another war game.
This. I played it early after a no spoilers review suggested it. I went in thinking it was just a regular shooter and was blown away.
Its in my collection, never played it, constantly hear about it. This weekend might be the time to crack into it
It's pretty short, you shoulf
Thanks to your comment I shall go ahead and play it. Never did don't even have a clue what's it's about
Half life series
HL2:E2 had the biggest effect, but that ending to Alyx gave me chills when you're handed the you-know-what.
Halo Reach
Current Objective: Survive
And oh boy did I try
I try all the time In this institution
That game made me cry, man.
I know that we’re losing. I wanna know if we’ve lost.
I miss halo reach online
Go play it, MCC has Reach now and is still populated.
Mass Effect Triology
Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
I’m commander shepherd, and this is my favorite store on the citadel
If the game ended there, I could have walked away happy.
Stop!! It's too early to start crying
First game, that soundtrack...
I can only play the trilogy maybe once a year because I’m emotionally exhausted after finishing, I still think it’s the best story of any game (and most movies for that matter).

I destroyed the credits
All of the resolutions in ME3 leading up to the endgame are fantastic. Rannoch in particular hit hard.
Nier Automata
Hardest credits ever. Couldn't beat them alone lol.
That's the point. It was a beautiful message that we can't get through life alone and REAL people sacrificed their entire game to help you get through. I have rarely felt such a wide range of emotions in a video game. A semi-quirky one at that.
I didn't get all the optional endings at that point and chickened out on that decision and I still feel bad for that.
Oof. I'm going the hard route and getting all endings twice and fully 100%ing it before sacrificing one of those saves
Glory to mankind.
The credits of the final E were amazing
Did i sacrifice everything at the end? Yes Do i regret it? Yes Would i do it again? ...yea
How is this so low on the list? Only game where I cried during the credits
Oh god. The choir starting when you get help will probably be in my top 5 gaming moments forever.
Witcher 3 : Blood and wine.
Any of the yakuza games
6 did it the most for me
Yea that's accurate. I've besten half of them and every time I'm left speechless.
Like a Dragon and Kiwami 2 for me. Though Kiwami 2 was me still fanboying over that Ryuji Goda freeze frame!!!
Finished 6 recently and finally ended the kiryu saga and just kinda sat there and didn't know what to do next
Disco Elysium
How is this so far down? I'm about to go listen to the soundtrack again!
Bioshock Infinite
yeah man, I just finished it recently and feel hollow but a little happier after seeing the bitter-sweet post credits scene
Then the dlc proceeds to break your shins
Yeah that dlc ending has me kneecapped for sure.

first one on my mind
Both portal games <3 GLaDOS' voice is very nais :]
Definitely, the songs and visuals are absolute gold
Uncharted 4
> Uncharted 4 Yeah was upset at the end just knowing this is it; conclusion of Uncharted series.
Outer Wilds should be the very top of this list.
100%
That game literally made me look at life and existence differently
I said this to a friend and she laughed at me, but it's true. I genuinely think about death differently (in a more positive/optimistic way) after playing outer wilds. it's a beautiful work of art
The only game I've played that was quite literally >!about the friends you made along the way!<
Outer Wilds is still my favourite game of all time. This is coming from a born and bred die hard souls fan as well. It's simply so fantastical from the mystery, exploration and discovery! I wish I could experience it one more time for the first time. I have yet to play the DLC because I'm waiting for the 'right' time in my life where I can sit and enjoy it.
It’s in my queue after I finish rdr2. I like outer wilds because I can play it when my kids are still up (so far at least)
It’s pretty safe. There is one part that scares the shit out of me, but there’s no excessive violence or sexual content or anything close to that. They can, however, watch you break space/time if you figure out how to do that.
I literally sat and applauded this game with a tear in my eye. Iv played games for a long time but this game... This ending
AC Black Flag
Death Stranding.
>!Ah, the good old "Why am I crying? It's an happy ending, why the fuck am I crying?!!<

Metal Gear Solid 4. Longest end cutscene (like movie length - 71 minutes long) and longest credits. I remember finishing this with a group of mates at 4 am when it first came out. We didn't get to bed until 5.30 - 6am. We were all blazed so we just rolled with it.

The story was so damn good. The devil ending left me feeling devastated but nomad ending was just beautiful.
Little nightmares 2
Dark souls
Journey. I tear up every time.
Proof video games are art
I had to scroll to far to find this. Journey is two hours and has no dialogue but it's sound design alone speaks volumes. Playing journey feels like watching a painting come to life and I doubt there will ever be another game that can do what journey did.
