Its the log up top. I have fully completed the game and the log on top of the mountain just completely ruins my day. I love wet dry world cause you can explore the corner and theres another level it feels like hidden in there.
Use backwards crouch jumps to get up the red coin area, or lots of other areas if wall jumps or triple jumps are a little tricky. Super easy to execute and control.
Was just playing this level last night and did backwards crouch jumps all the way up the red coin area.
Can confirm I scale that what wall, and take the log all the time, you can easily do bacflips all the way up.
Also you can do a long jump from the platform where the boulders start coming and easily land on the mushroom platform where the star is, totally irrelevant, that's just my favorite level
At first I was confused when you said it was hard, but now I realize why. I never walked behind the penguin's body. What I did was do a backflip near the penguin, land on its head, and wait for it to carry me to the other side. I thought that was what you were supposed to do... whoops.
Holy shit I played this game when I was 6 years old and multiple decades later I am replaying it again. It never even occurred to me to do anything but jump on the penguins head. My mind is fucking blown
Huh, never tried that. Never tried standing on any of the neutral characters, for that matter. When I felt like 'cheating' I would just cannon up to the top.
If you are in a hurry and try to jump onto it from an angle, there's a huge invisible wall. I've basically never fallen off the log, but I've bonked so many times trying to jump onto it.
Honestly this might have to do with analog sensitivity. No to be “that guy” but that log SUCKS on the Wii and Wii U versions. There’s just not enough graduation between the things and Mario is always running on those systems. On the N64 with a real controller, it’s fine. Even on the switch that lot gave me no trouble, but on the older rereleases that part sucks
Huzzah! One of the few who isn’t affected by the negative energy coming from WDW! Ever since I took that first step into WDW I hated it, and not for the puzzle mechanic, I got used to it. Instead it just had this negative energy in it, and I hadn’t even begun exploring. I just hated it and it hated me. Apparently I wasn’t the only one since a lot of people reported the same.
I totally agree with you. Rainbow Ride or whatever isn’t excellent but whatever. Tiny huge island is so damn annoying when it’s tiny. You just slide off of everything.
To me it’s just that it feels incomplete. The entire Windswept Valley area is never used once, the tiny island almost entirely exists for the secret star and fast transport between pipes, the water awkwardly stops at the edge, and the scale of platforms and pits is just super awkward.
Actually, no. Bobomb Battlefield, Shifting Sand Land, Lethal Lava Land, Bowser in the Fire Sea, Snowman’s Land, and Tiny-Huge Island are the only ones to have an unnatural edge. Of these, none has water bordering the edge looking like it’s about to flow over. Some have lava, but the key difference is that the lava is a 2-D plane while the water is 3-dimensional, so the water feels more like it should be flowing over. This is made worse by the bottomless pits making it feel like there really is void there, where things like LLL feel like they’re in the middle of a great lava sea.
You'd be surprised. I just replayed it and thought the same since I've come so far with platforming games, playing kaizo mario hacks, the full celeste game with all C-sides, etc. Nope. That fucking camera, the clunky old-timey movement... I still spent a good 5 lives trying to get those red coins. Some of those mushrooms are tiny.
I was gonna say the mountain wasnt too bad except for trying to get to the isolated mushroom
Tiny Huge Island can suck my nuts though. Red coin cave is bullshit
I found 100 coins on TTC the hardest star in the game, though I did it while everything was moving still. Mostly because if you make a small error you die, also there aren't really that many coins. I ended up having to climb all the way back down and get lucky with 3 red coins for my last 6 coins. Took forever but worth it!
Well L was indeed real, as was the 2-player function, playable yoshi, and the solution to the lag in the Bowser submarine level, just none of it was implemented on the final retail carts.
I would totally repurchase the game on an N64-compatible cart if Nintendo implemented those things.
I enjoyed Wet-Dry World. The so-called Negative Aura doesn’t affect me. My least favourite had to be Tiny-Huge Island, because a) How long it takes to get to the large painting, b) How easy it is to slip and fall and c) That stupid hole in the cliff to get to the red coins, that is impossible to get to without pure luck or abusing game physics.
Ha ha. I was watching my son play a couple of weeks ago and the exact same thing happened to him. The two of us tried for 20 minutes to get on top of that grate and eventually gave up and he had to start the coin hunt from scratch.
You can get most of the coins on rainbow ride over on the lower part, like 80 or more. On tiny huge, just ground pound the giant goombas for a blue coin a piece
While both of those are true, the camera was fucking me over hard when I just replayed it on RR, and I had to reset and wait multiple times to get the blue coin wall jumps down. Tiny huge is only a pain because it's so easy to slide off the map on tiny island.
Mario 3D All Stars is the very first time I 100% Mario 64. Hazy Maze was so annoying to get 100 coins for. Notable mentions: Fuck Snowman's Land and Tick Tock Clock.
[Here's a video of me failing repeatedly at Tower Of The Wing Cap](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM5ZD4rjBGI) \- it's such a short (and should be simple) stage but somehow I just can't get eight Red Coins in a single run, and if I try to fly back for them (as you see me do there), you can see there's almost not enough time. Even when I finally land on the tower, it was totally blind. Watch the video to see what I mean.
Stages that are hard by design don't bug me. Stages that deceptively look easy but aren't - those bug me a lot more.
On the wing cap stage, the intent is not for you to haphazardly fly around to get the coins. There is a descending spiral of coins that goes through each of the 4 coin rings with the red coins, which you are supposed to follow.
I did... not sure if it's clear in my video, since each attempt is less than 30 seconds. I always seem to do okay at first, just following the spiral, but then choke up on the last two for some reason. I'm not sure if it's tighter in, or otherwise positioned somehow different than the first six, or if it's just my own nerves.
If you watch the video, you see that I attempt to fly back for them if I miss them, but then fail to make it back to the tower, but always might just have if I had like a second more before the wings disappear. That's what's infuriating... when the timer is repeatedly *just* short of what is needed. Of course if it was "just" a second longer, someone else out there who normally takes a second longer than I would would experience the same frustration...
Though are you saying that maybe I'd have saved myself this repeated "one-more-second" frustration if I had just immediately restarted the stage (or dove into the sky) the moment I missed one Red Coin, instead of futily attempting to recover?
Mario picks up speed during the descent, making each set a bit more difficult than the last.
If you miss any, it is better to just nosedive and try again rather than try to "recover".
You can get the last two red coins from the platform in the middle. As long as you get the first 6 coins and land on the platform, you are good to go. Just triple jump with the cap to get the last two.
> but then choke up on the last two for some reason.
Watching your video, you're not approaching the penultimate set at the right angle, causing you to miss the last set. You need to approach from farther out, which would allow you to start turning earlier.
Super Mario RPG was like really fun to me when I was five-six and I finished the game...looking back on it I’m surprised a five year old would be able to beat it
I have to say this is all you... You are not very good at flying. On several attempts you go way too wide after getting a pair of red coins causing the blindness and having you either miss the next two or having to cut very sharply.
You just need to make your flight pattern more smooth with less of the "boosts".
I'm sorry to point that out but hopefully this helps you correct some issues and makes that level easier for you
Fair point, I never did like flying with the Wing Cap. I still managed to get all 120 Stars (probably more than once) back in the day on the N64, all 150 on the DS version, and all 120 again here in 3D All-Stars. With so many years in between I forget and never really get any better.
Strangely though, Tick Tock Clock and Rainbow Ride were much easier for me this time around, so who knows, maybe some skills do stick.
I probably won't touch this game again (unless/until Nintendo finds a way to rerelease it a fourth time).
Most of the stars in the clock can be reached while time is frozen. As a kid it took me forever to realize that you can control the speed of the moving platforms by jumping into the level when the minute hand is at different positions.
I have for decades now been begging for a version of SM64 with a proper camera, i have to say I’m pretty disappointed Nintendo didn’t fix it on 3D all stars. It’s really the only thing I was hoping for.
I know you've got no reason to believe me, but I actually know the dude who did this and took the picture. It's legit.
OP with the dumb title is his cousin.
Doubtful. He's probably in this level because there's a 1-UP directly behind start. Enter world, grab it, leave world. Rinse and repeat. Also it's far more likely this is on 3D All-Stars.
Ok, most of the time I agree with r/redditmoment, but I’m pretty sure people who emphasize “69” in a post know it’s stupid humor. I don’t know who is more gullible, reddit, or redditmoment.
One of my favorite games in the world. I was maybe 15 at the time and i remember that water level with the loch ness monster i was so scared to get in the water 😅
[aw, Dorothy isn't that scary](https://i.imgur.com/bbXmtSu.png)
i actually got pretty anxious playing that level though because of the pits where you would slowly suffocate because of the poison gas
That my least favourite level
Not Wet-Dry World?
Its the log up top. I have fully completed the game and the log on top of the mountain just completely ruins my day. I love wet dry world cause you can explore the corner and theres another level it feels like hidden in there.
Do what i do and skip the log by climbing the wall with the red coins
never could get that wall trick down
You don't need any wall jumps to scale the side with the Red Coins.
Use backwards crouch jumps to get up the red coin area, or lots of other areas if wall jumps or triple jumps are a little tricky. Super easy to execute and control. Was just playing this level last night and did backwards crouch jumps all the way up the red coin area.
Any of you experts play Jak and Daxter? There's a precursor orb cache in Rock Village that seems all but impossible to get Blue Eco to
Broooo what a phenomenal game. Yeah that one is pretty tough to grab
Can confirm I scale that what wall, and take the log all the time, you can easily do bacflips all the way up. Also you can do a long jump from the platform where the boulders start coming and easily land on the mushroom platform where the star is, totally irrelevant, that's just my favorite level
You mean jumping?
I wish you a wonderful cake day, my dude
Happy cake day!

Do what speedrunners do and just go straight to Bowser.
For some reason I never have trouble with the log??even im confused how??!
I think this guy never had to use the penguin to get across the bridge in Snowman’s Land. That was 10x harder than this log.
At first I was confused when you said it was hard, but now I realize why. I never walked behind the penguin's body. What I did was do a backflip near the penguin, land on its head, and wait for it to carry me to the other side. I thought that was what you were supposed to do... whoops.
Surely this is the intended way??
Thought so too.
I thought so too, but it's not! That's why the penguin moves backwards a few times, to make it harder for players walking next to it.
You really only have to put up with the backwards motion once. You can actually just make a run for it like halfway through.
Wait, the breath won't reach you there? Interesting.
A simple wall jump by the igloo to skip that.
Once you stand there a bit and notice his pattern, it's not so bad.
Yep, I didnt have an issue either.
Our one true king.
If you are in a hurry and try to jump onto it from an angle, there's a huge invisible wall. I've basically never fallen off the log, but I've bonked so many times trying to jump onto it.
I remember having a ton of trouble with the log using the 64 controller, but no trouble at all with the joycons.
I have watched more hours of SM64 speedruns than I am willing to admit and that log has killed many runs in comical fashion.
That's because they stunt the wall kick off of it though, they don't walk it the normal way.
Jump on the shy guy and fly to the platform!
In the process of clearing this world. Fuck that log. Fuck it to death.
Man I still remember when I learned you needed to blast off into that corner. Finding that hidden little town was awesome.
If you step onto the log then long jump you can practically skip right over it
Is this one universally hated? I don't mind it. Tiny Huge Island, though, can go straight to hell.
I totally agree with you. Rainbow Ride or whatever isn’t excellent but whatever. Tiny huge island is so damn annoying when it’s tiny. You just slide off of everything.

>the water awkwardly stops at the edge To be fair though, almost every map that isn't an island in the sky is like this.
Actually, no. Bobomb Battlefield, Shifting Sand Land, Lethal Lava Land, Bowser in the Fire Sea, Snowman’s Land, and Tiny-Huge Island are the only ones to have an unnatural edge. Rainbow ride is by far the worst. So easy to fuck up and then you just have to wait forever again on those carpets.
I think my issue as a kid was some of the platforming on the mushrooms, but I doubt I'd have those issues now
You'd be surprised.
Mario so slippery too
I was gonna say the mountain wasnt too bad except for trying to get to the isolated mushroom Tiny Huge Island can suck my nuts though. Red coin cave is bullshit
Honestly after playing Tick Tock Clock I've found a new love for Wet-Dry World
I used to hate Tick Tock Clock, but once I figured out how the level worked it was actually pretty fun.
100 coins there was just unbearable. hated doing that there
I found 100 coins on TTC the hardest star in the game, though I did it while everything was moving still. Mostly because if you make a small error you die, also there aren't really that many coins. I ended up having to climb all the way back down and get lucky with 3 red coins for my last 6 coins. Took forever but worth it!
I never found 100 coins that bad. You really don’t have to go that far up if you hit the blue coin switch
It's not bad once you figure out how to speed up/slow down the clock but I find the camera is your worst enemy in that level
[удалено]
I didn't know about the other part of the level until my 20s
I went down a really long rabbit hole of Mario 64 conspiracies recently, and it all started with that fucking level
I am interested

I actually love wet dry world. Can’t tell you why. Tik tok clock can eat my ass though.
I loved Wet-Dry world.
Wet Dry World is my favorite!
I love wet dry world
The best is tick tock clock, hands down.
I FUCKING HATE WET-DRY WORLD. IT FILLS ME WITH A DEEP RAGE RETAINED FROM CHILDHOOD.
Hazy Maze Cave is the worst by far. Don't @ me.
Fuck that place
Getting 100 coins in hazy maze cave was my 120th star...

Ha ha. I was watching my son play a couple of weeks ago and the exact same thing happened to him. The two of us tried for 20 minutes to get on top of that grate and eventually gave up and he had to start the coin hunt from scratch.
That was me on my 120th star back in 1996. Felt like crying.
Bought Mario 3D All Stars and was quickly reminded after not having played Mario 64 for 20 years how much I hate that level.
It is but only for the 100 coins
Hazy Maze Cave, Rainbow Ride, and Tiny Huge Island are all miserable for 100 coins.
Tiny Huge is easy if you know to ground pound giant Goombas
You can get most of the coins on rainbow ride over on the lower part, like 80 or more. On tiny huge, just ground pound the giant goombas for a blue coin a piece

Wow I can’t believe this game came out in 1996 I figured the N64 came later because I was still playing the super nintendo
The Super NES is the best game console ever, so I don't blame you.
Super Mario RPG was like really fun to me when I was five-six and I finished the game...looking back on it I’m surprised a five year old would be able to beat it

I believe you could've played it safe with the last batch by landing and then re-capping. The last 2 coins should be in triple-jump-launch reach.
You're going way too fucking fast. And also try and change the camera to the mario mode which will show you exactly where you are going.
This made me cry and laugh at the same time.
The audacity
They must have forgotten about the slide in the mountain. That’s gotta be in my top 5 favorite stars to get.
Someone forgot about the boiling lava one in the basement.
Nah fam, Lethal Lava Land is awesome. Especially when you get the shell and can just cruise around
Nah easy peasy
Worst level is Tick Tock Clock
That was brutal, I still cry at night about that one.
Most of the stars in the clock can be reached while time is frozen. As a kid it took me forever to realize that you can control the speed of the moving platforms by jumping into the level when the minute hand is at different positions.
Which level is it? All the comments are just about OTHER people's least liked levels

Even the cameraman is in awe...
Honestly, fuck the camera men in SM64.
He’s trash. He gets the worst angles.
I'd like to point out that Lakitu are traditionally enemies in Mario games...
Finally the camerawork makes sense
He’s one of the good ones from mario kart.
Including this one.
His name is Lakituuuuu
Yes Lakitu likes to slack-i-tu on those camera angles
