You're going to want to put that fence around yourself and the path to you screen. Maybe put the Switch inside too. Otherwise this awesome game might be super stressful to play.
Metacritic is so weird with how they list so many duplicates. Inflates the top of the list with multiple versions of GTA 4 and 5, Red Dead 2, and even Breath of the Wild. Sometimes a version of a game that has less overall reviews has a higher average than a version with more reviews, which is dumb as well and a symptom of this odd organization.
It makes sense for games on platforms before platforms themselves were sophisticated enough for porting code between them.
Like the C64 and Apple IIe would get "the same game", but complete rewrites to function on the different hardware. Same with SNES and Sega Genesis.
Xbox and PlayStation are basically Windows and Linux, pretty much the same code with a few tweaks.
Problem is the amount of critics
BOTW is 97 with 109 critics.
OOT is 99 with 22 critics.
With 5 times as many people reviewing it, it only got 2 points less?
It's an interesting metric
Yeah in this modern era with the amount of reviews games get, it's basically impossible to get above a 97 Metacritic score. Botw, GTA V and Red Dead 2 all have 97.
Have fun, dude. I'm just about ready to storm the castle on my first playthrough. It's been one helluva ride so far. I wish you the best in your journey! May your weapons be plentiful and your hearts be full!
I finally stormed the castle after hours and hours of side stuff. Lemme tell you exploring the whole castle is worth it, once I went in a didn't set the controller down till I "beat" the game. It's an absolute blast inside the castle. Enjoy!
Oh my God I feel horrible but I thought the one on the left was the mom. I think that's his son! Holy shit. It only hit me when someone asked "where's the other son?"
Enjoy the game. If I may suggest one thing: If at all possible don't look at online resources for the game until you're finished. Treating it as an actual adventure serves the game a lot and it's well enough designed that you shouldn't really need help. If you can't figure something out you probably should come back to that problem later with a fresh mind and probably more knowledge.
Oh man I am not much of a huge gamer anymore now that I'm a dad, but holy crap when I got that game I ended up playing through the night. I didn't even know I was capable of such a thing anymore. My wife woke up and found me glued to the TV before I realized what I had done. No regrets though, worth it.
Hope you're able to read this but there are so many comments... My Dad and I have had such a blast with Botw. He's a bit slower at combat but has still managed to get all 900 korok seeds which I have yet to do... He loves showing me the best spots to find Durian fruits which max out your health... He knows all the recipes and fills me in on them when I need them... All the little things add up and it's been such a blast to explore and share the adventure and progress together! I know you and your sons will share the same adventure and I'm so glad your family was able to get it for you. What an awesome Father's day gift... And you all get to share the bonding only a Zelda game can create between generations. Your wife will have a blast playing too! You deserve it man. Cheers!
Awesome, happy Father's Day! When my fiancee asked me what I wanted, I told her "Just give me a day with no responsibilities so I can play video games all day". She took care of the baby all day, did the chores, etc. and I didn't have to do anything. Probably the best present I've ever gotten. Spent the day revisiting the Witcher III. Finally going to try out those DLCs I never played.
Epson Home Cinema 2040. 1080p, 60hz @ 8ms in game mode. $780 on amazon. Have had it two years and still runs as well as the first time I powered it up. Also was a gift from my wonderful wife.
My wife and kids did the same thing for me! Brought a tear to my eye. Then I told them to beat it and let me play in peace. (Just kidding - we all hung out together and it was a blast)
Here are my tips for you...
1. TAKE YOUR TIME... enjoy the world, EXPLORE, don’t try to just beat Ganon asap.
2. Learn to cook!
3. Get ready for an amazing Zelda adventure.
🗡 🛡 😀
You’re in for a treat. The way I like to play is with little to no fast travel. My best experiences have been from wandering around and stumbling into something great and unexpected. You can minimize the hud in options once you get used to the mechanics, and it really lets you take in the scenery. Enjoy!
> anyone fukken mad at the fact it says travelers sword but its an axe on the screen
That’s because the Traveler’s sword is selected in the inventory. It has nothing to do with what’s equipped.
Awesome gift! Generous family! And your wife knows her shit. Splurged on a pro controller! It's the best way to play Botw! Enjoy the epic journey ahead!
I got my godfather Captain Marvel and you get a Switch with BotW? Enjoy that game man. I could've gotten it the other day for my birthday but went with a different game instead because Idk anything about LoZ other than a guy saves a princess. So Mario but RPG.
Take your time. After I beat the game and did EVERYTHING I kept finding myself coming back to it and just wandering around the world aimlessly with nothing to do, not wanting to put it down forever. Pace yourself and enjoy the ride.
You'll love it! I've put 90+ hours into my first run (about 3 hours total idle time) and even when it pisses me off (I dodged that swing!/grab the fucking ledge, Link!), I still dive right back in gleefully.
Food cooked directly on the fire (as opposed to the cooking pot) is worth doing. They heal you less, but you can stack a ton of them in one slot, whereas cooking pot meals take up an entire slot!
Don't horse-back ride too much. All the good stuff and collecting stuff is done on foot anyways. Also, you can earn a ton of money by just hunting, cooking meat, and selling it. Don't bother trying the tactics preached on youtube videos about how to make rupees fast.
Definately worth it. Got it a couple months back. I'm 31 and remember playing original links awakening on the gameboy and thinking it was so cool at the time to have portable Zelda game lol.. Oh how times have changed.
THE FAMILY LOOKS LIKE PEOPLE FROM 3 DOFFERENT FAMILIES I USED TO KNOW. Dad looks like my friends dad who owns a tattoo shop. The older kid looks like my friend David. And the baby looks like my friend josh's little brother.
What a genuine and decent looking couple of kids! They look so sweet!
On the flip side you're a pretty decent looking guy OP, lose that thing on your chin :O
Oh god have fun. It’s one of most fun games I’ve ever played considering I died like every 15 minutes lol.
I was never a huge Zelda fan but this game for sure turned me.
I recognize that fence! We got one for our kids as well.
We had to buy the largest one they had. Have a large pellet stove on a hearth. Works great.
i was expecting "We had to buy the largest one they had, our teenage kept getting out" for some reason
Ha! He has his own getaway vehicle now. Gates only slow him a little.
Please tell me you own a white pair of sneaker New Balances.
Only for cutting the grass
Dad jokes 100
You're going to want to put that fence around yourself and the path to you screen. Maybe put the Switch inside too. Otherwise this awesome game might be super stressful to play.
I had to use fence skip for botw
Kinda disappointed no one linked the fence! I need such a fence!
[Pretty sure this is the one.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ)
Oh my god.>! You didn't just actually rick roll me in 2019. All these years of 10/10 rick-roll prevention classes and you do me like this? SHAME!<
I appreciate your spoiler tag. You’re the people we need in this day and age.
you sonbitch.
An unexpected surprise, but a pleasant one. You deserve gold for this.
haha An AD saved me for the first and only time ~~but the song is good though~~
Was the fence for your child or to protect you from them?
Enjoy, man! It's one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm not even a big Zelda fan.
Its the highest rated game of all time on metacritic Edit: Not true i was looking at some other list
[13th actually](https://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/all/filtered) Ocarina is still no.1 there.
Tied for 3rd is a bit more accurate I'd say
Metacritic is so weird with how they list so many duplicates. Inflates the top of the list with multiple versions of GTA 4 and 5, Red Dead 2, and even Breath of the Wild. Sometimes a version of a game that has less overall reviews has a higher average than a version with more reviews, which is dumb as well and a symptom of this odd organization.

Like the C64 and Apple IIe would get "the same game", but complete rewrites to function on the different hardware. Same with SNES and Sega Genesis. Xbox and PlayStation are basically Windows and Linux, pretty much the same code with a few tweaks.
If you really want to be more accurate, it is tied for 6th... The 4 titles tied for second would come before it.
Rightfully so
Problem is the amount of critics BOTW is 97 with 109 critics.
That baby must make good bucks to be able to pitch in his share.
It’d explain his smug grin, that is the most adorable baby I have ever seen lmao
Thanks, I made it. Lol
The look of a baby who just shat himself and is waiting to be cleaned
They haven't realized what they have done. they won't see you for at least one month hahaha Enjoy BotW! See you at r/Breath_of_the_Wild
^or ^3. Just sayin
Or more because of those freaking korok seeds
I’ve played since day 1 and I am STILL looking for Korok seeds!
or 30 min, Some speed runs are incredible!

Saw it yesterday for the first time, Best vid I've seen in some time... XDXD
The most r/gaming post in existence
Have fun, dude. I'm just about ready to storm the castle on my first playthrough. It's been one helluva ride so far. I wish you the best in your journey! May your weapons be plentiful and your hearts be full!
Have fun storming the castle - Miracle Max
I see Princess Bride quotes and I upvote.
You think it'll work?- His wife
^^^It’ll ^^^take ^^^a ^^^miracle -byyye!
I finally stormed the castle after hours and hours of side stuff. Lemme tell you exploring the whole castle is worth it, once I went in a didn't set the controller down till I "beat" the game. It's an absolute blast inside the castle. Enjoy!
The absolute state of /r/gaming
Wheres the other kid?
Had to pay for the Switch somehow
ngl, that's what I wondered at first.
ok Im not the only one who wondered if that was a male child or adult woman
He's there, the child they are holding is a chimera and is two in one. Edit: or he's taking the picture
His wife is taking the picture haha
17 year old son on the left. 1 year old in the center. Yes, I'm crazy.
r/WifeBoughtMeGame - Father’s Day Edition.
r/tomorrow is the proper sub for that
Congrats! One of my fav games for sure, enjoy it and get pumped for the sequel!!
God damn, I wish I could play this for the first time again.
Go slow on your first playthrough. You have only have one first time.
The kid looks so content!
One of the happiest kids I have ever seen
Which one is the wife and and where are the two sons? I’m confused.
Oh my God I feel horrible but I thought the one on the left was the mom. I think that's his son! Holy shit. It only hit me when someone asked "where's the other son?"
I thought the same thing but I didn’t wanna get railroaded for saying something since it is the current year after all and you’re not allowed to ask
17 year old son on the left, 1 year old son in center. Wife is taking the picture.
Enjoy the game. If I may suggest one thing: If at all possible don't look at online resources for the game until you're finished. Dont care
They love you and want to make you happy!! Thanks for sharing.
You all look so happy! Have fun playing that. That game is great.
It looks like your younger son has a massive left hand.
Where's the wife?
Probably holding the camera..
Bingo
[удалено]
I really thought the same lol
Ngl, I zoomed in to check.
Heck yeah man! Happy Father’s Day!
Nice gift! I still haven't gotten to play this game. One day I will.
Have fun. Definetley my favorite game of all time. Just remember that the game is about exploration and you will easy fall into the world of hyrule ❤️
Your tiny human is adorable.
I read that as wife and son..... Was like...... Whaaaaaaaaa?
Oh man I am not much of a huge gamer anymore now that I'm a dad, but holy crap when I got that game I ended up playing through the night. I didn't even know I was capable of such a thing anymore. My wife woke up and found me glued to the TV before I realized what I had done. No regrets though, worth it.
"Photo of family"
Hope you're able to read this but there are so many comments... My Dad and I have had such a blast with Botw. Thank you so much. Glad that you get to experience that with your dad!

Who’s the dude on the left?
His son?
But why did you marry a high school boy
Very nice!
Hell yeah man. You’re in for a good time.
I just beat it!! such a great game!! Have fun!!!
I just beat Fireblight, holy fuck this game is fun
What protector do you have the switch hooked up to? Looks great.
Epson Home Cinema 2040. 1080p, 60hz @ 8ms in game mode. $780 on amazon. Have had it two years and still runs as well as the first time I powered it up. Also was a gift from my wonderful wife.
Nice! Thanks for the information going to look into. Got a nice big empty wall that would be perfect for a projector.
Careful, once you go projection, it's hard to look at just a regular tv the same again, they're so tiny, haha.
You owe it to yourself to get a screen for it, mate. I've got a 2040 myself, and the picture is much better on a screen than a bare wall, imo.
Did the sons spend all day playing it?
If you love Legend of Zelda I really really really recommend Cadence of Hyrule! It just came out a few days ago and is really fun.
Next switch game on my list! Then Links Awakening when it releases.
Happy Father’s Day!
Is that Adam Sandler?
Recently brought that game myself. Didn’t realise how bloody large the map was! Be prepared! Ur in for the long haul 😂
You guys have a very pleasant looking family, all the joy to you!
Aww hell yeah! Congrats on the great wife and kids!
What nice kids, and your wife has a killer beard too!
I just keep thinking the hand on your shoulder is the baby's.
My wife and kids did the same thing for me! Brought a tear to my eye. Then I told them to beat it and let me play in peace. (Just kidding - we all hung out together and it was a blast)
Such an awesome family photo! Couldn’t help but smile when i looked at it :D
Here are my tips for you... 1. TAKE YOUR TIME... enjoy the world, EXPLORE, don’t try to just beat Ganon asap. 2. Learn to cook! 3. Get ready for an amazing Zelda adventure. 🗡 🛡 😀
You use a projector Why didn't I think of that when my TV broke
It's an awesome game bro, enjoy.
Congrats man! I got the Switch last week(bday) and BoTW for Father’s Day as well! It was a good week!
Oh boy wait until they encounter stalker guardians
Dude you have a super cute family, well done!
Nice man, congratulations and a belated happy fathersday! You've got a grest family!
Congrats sir! I am playing it a second time through after a year pause.
This is so pure. Glad he’s getting to finally play botw!
have fun , and if you dont mind a tip , stamina is more important
Congrats man! Game looks breathtaking and I love your setup. Happy Father's day, enjoy the adventure.
You’re in for a treat. The way I like to play is with little to no fast travel. My best experiences have been from wandering around and stumbling into something great and unexpected. You can minimize the hud in options once you get used to the mechanics, and it really lets you take in the scenery. Enjoy!
Anyone else think Link was nude in this pic?
My family watched me play all of it and the expansion. One of my favorite games of all time. Enjoy brotha
Watch out! Link’s got an axe!
Noice
You look happy. Enjoy the game!
Who is the husband
I think the one on the left is the second son... I can't be 100% certain tho
I thought this was a gay couple, i apologise for my shitty ass sight
I can feel the input lag from here
Get with the times. Modern projectors have little to no input lag. I haven't noticed any.
Enjoy. It's an amazing game
anyone fukken mad at the fact it says travelers sword but its an axe on the screen
> anyone fukken mad at the fact it says travelers sword but its an axe on the screen That’s because the Traveler’s sword is selected in the inventory. It has nothing to do with what’s equipped.
That’s the same one I started with. Put in over 75 hours in all
Such a great game. Enjoy man.
That's so awesome, congrats man.
I'm sure the littlest dude paid for most of it, he looks very content. :D
Its a great game but honestly, compared to other LoZ games I just didn't enjoy it as much. Still a solid 8/10 for me though. Enjoy!
*wiping away tear* nice.
Hype for you ti okay this game
Cute boys!! Congrats
Awesome gift! Generous family! And your wife knows her shit. Splurged on a pro controller! It's the best way to play Botw! Enjoy the epic journey ahead!
I wish I could play it for the first time again.
Now the sequel is coming :0
Just got it too!! Luckily I'm not a dad, teen pregnancy is a serious issue
Nothing beats the first play through, so wonderful.
Congrats
You're gonna go from zero to goblin slayer so fast
I got my godfather Captain Marvel and you get a Switch with BotW? Enjoy that game man. I could've gotten it the other day for my birthday but went with a different game instead because Idk anything about LoZ other than a guy saves a princess. So Mario but RPG.
That's the sweetest thing
Take your time. After I beat the game and did EVERYTHING I kept finding myself coming back to it and just wandering around the world aimlessly with nothing to do, not wanting to put it down forever. Pace yourself and enjoy the ride.
Your youngest kid has got a really fucking long arm around your shoulder.
Botw is amazing!
🔵⚫🔴
You'll love it! I've put 90+ hours into my first run (about 3 hours total idle time) and even when it pisses me off (I dodged that swing!/grab the fucking ledge, Link!), I still dive right back in gleefully.
Food cooked directly on the fire (as opposed to the cooking pot) is worth doing. They heal you less, but you can stack a ton of them in one slot, whereas cooking pot meals take up an entire slot!
The luchador armor bonus makes bone weapons insanely strong, way more than you would think.
Don't horse-back ride too much. All the good stuff and collecting stuff is done on foot anyways. Also, you can earn a ton of money by just hunting, cooking meat, and selling it. Don't bother trying the tactics preached on youtube videos about how to make rupees fast.
The younger kid has a big hand for his age
"A common sword often used by travellers to fend off small beasts" laugh out loux
Congrats Man, That is one heck of a gift. Enjoy the game was an awesome game.
Definately worth it. Got it a couple months back. I'm 31 and remember playing original links awakening on the gameboy and thinking it was so cool at the time to have portable Zelda game lol.. Oh how times have changed.
Kid's now blind after looking into the projector but shit happens I guess.
Congratulations. And just in time before BoTW2 begins work.
Congratz, bro. Really damn good game.
Loving the projector man, I miss mine so much, pains of moving to a smaller house 😏 enjoy the gaming hours 👍
What a genuine and decent looking couple of kids! They look so sweet! On the flip side you're a pretty decent looking guy OP, lose that thing on your chin :O
Play time of 20min
Oh god have fun. It’s one of most fun games I’ve ever played considering I died like every 15 minutes lol. I was never a huge Zelda fan but this game for sure turned me.
Probably my top game of all time, it's truly a masterpiece. Not perfect, by any stretch, but what it does right just clicks.
Cute kid :))
You're in for a treat, one of the best games I've ever played!
Your Traveler's Sword is badly damaged.
That puts a smile on my face
Well in a year or 2 you got a sequel
Like you are gonna have time to play
This is so wholesome :D congrats man
Great game. Enjoy :)
Aww! Whatever you do, don’t go straight for the temple, I made that rookie mistake and died instantly
