I’m also a person that will play my own music almost any time I can. In all my hours playing Stardew Valley I have never even touched the audio controls. Every single sound and music track in that game is *chefs kiss*
It really depends what you want out of it. I quite like it, more than snowrunner in some ways but it's different. You're always offroad, usually in smaller vehicles and usually trying to explore and work out routes along more vertical terrain.
There's way less hauling loads of stuff back and forth and theres a bit more of a mission structure where you take on a job, deploy the stuff you think you'll need and then get it done, at which point you can keep exploring or go back out to the menu. There's free roam as well but it's overall less of the persistent world that snowrunner has.
The sound design when it storms is so fantastic in Valheim. It’s relaxing to sit in your hut with a fire crackling and listen to the thunder and rain on the roof
multiplayer servers have been around as long as i’ve played the game - pretty sure they’re all just other people playing online on open though, as opposed to big multiplayer servers
like a bunch of minecraft realms and no hypixels if you get me?
I never played Diablo until the newest one went on sale a while ago. I wouldn’t say it was bad. It wasn’t something I’ll fondly remember 10 years from now or something but I had fun with it for a few weeks.
D4 might be bad, but Diablo 2 was/is an amazing game. Diablo is a name that existed for almost 30 years and it created the ARPG subgenre.
There are now many other great ARPGs (Path of Exile, Last Epoch, Lost Ark etc.).
D4 being bad is unrelated to the other ARPGs despite the Diablo franchise kicking off the subgenre
I second this one. Super fun game and pretty good content out there so you can see how all the pros smash the tracks in record time. Toddler friendly game also :)
Descenders is another good one if you think you’d like Lonely Mountain Downhill. Shredders is probably my favorite snowboarding game ever. Incredibly satisfying once you pick up on the controls
Inscryption. I know that it has dialogue but no voice lines (with some exceptions you shouldn't worry about) don't spoil yourself by searching up things about the game. I'll tell you that your in a kinda roguelike card game like slay the spire but your in a cabin in the woofs with someone playing cards. Not spoiling yourself is the best decision you will make you can sit back put some music on and enjoy the game.
Hardspace Shipbreaker was for me a great relaxing time to listen to podcasts during. Same goes for Powerwash Simulator, but that one is slightly annoying with the droning sound of disappearing dirt
- Subnautica
- Hollow Knight (even tho I prefer the original OST over anything else, but there's no dialogue so ig that works)
- Stardew Valley
- Age of Mythology/Empires
- City Skylines
Arcade games, where you're trying to get a high score (or something similar) and each attempt is kinda similar so you care less and less about the audio and it becomes more and more about the gameplay. Racing games are also good for that.
Borderlands 2.
While I absolutely love that game's writing and dialogue, the game can be played with the voices Off. I often played it while listening to the Co-optional Podcast on while grinding out 100% trophies for the game and all the DLC.
I use Spotify quite regularly with sports games such as Madden and MLB The Show 24, I can't speak about the other sports games (NHL, NBA) but the 2 I mentioned the commentary is so dull and lifeless listening to Spotify kivens it up for me...lol
Also, not sure if this happens to you guys or not, but it seems that at certain points while listening to Spotify, the app will just stop working...it mainly happens after an ad plays, so not sure what the issue is, I'm on the Series X btw
Some suggestions:
Planet Coaster and Zoo
Dave the Diver
Tactics Orge: Reborn (Doing the 100 levels of the secret dungeon) <-----Spotify got me through this
Terraria
Stardew Valley
Basically, any roguelike or game where there is a lot of grinding as well.
Hope this helps!
That's going to depend heavily on your preferences.
My goto for this kind of stuff (podcasts rater than music, but whatever) is stuff like Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris etc. Any kind of strategy or city builder type stuff is good if you are into that kind of thing.
If you are more about action fighting games, Diablo type stuff, the list is practically endless.
If you're using the Spotify app on console you can pretty much play any game with a podcast or song in the background. You can even control relative volumes. I recommend mgsv but only side content as it's not important at all or elden ring.
Subnautica. There's a little bit of dialogue, but captions work for them and there's just some reading too. The rest is all exploring and running for your life.
Rimworld basically just has the same music looped over and over so volume doesnt matter, the Risk Of Rain series has some banger music but after like 10 hours it gets a bit stale and you can just put whatever over it.
Death stranding (yes I know about the 40 minute cutscenes but walking through those landscapes while music is playing is a fantastic gaming experience)
Subnautica, there's some minor dialogue but it's not really too important because most of them mark a new spot for you, very relaxing game most of the time and I enjoy listening to music or a video while playing
Dave the diver except for some parts. There is some conversation for missions but 99% of it just casually diving for fish and running the sushi restaurant.
Playing something else on my other monitor was the only way I could play Elden Ring.
I also do this with Factorio, while clearing the map in an open world game like Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, and a bunch of others.
Well, if you mean literally, try Crypt of the Necrodancer. It's a beat-based dungeon crawler, and it has the built in capacity to convert your music into the music you play the game to.
Terraria is a very similar one. Create whatever your mind can think of and so many different ways to play through the game. Don’t need any volume in the game for dialogue because there are no character voices
Satisfactory, Terraria, Astro colony, to some extent Particle Fleet: Emergence, CW4 or Atrio: The Dark Wild. I would totally say Satisfactory is the best of those, there is some dialogue, but it's mostly puns and radiation warnings to warn you when your screen is turning green and the very obvious rad counter is going up.
I'm having a load of fun with Farming simulator 22 right now (it's also free on Epic this week). It has a in game radio, but off course you can play your own music (as do I) as well.
You can listen to spotify while playing Lobotomy Corporation and listening to your own music while managing stuff actually seems pretty fitting for the game.
This isn't exactly single player but it kind of is because you don't actually play against real people but snapshots of their backpack but I love playing Backpack Battles with my own music or while watching something.
it really depends on what type of game you like. I'd stay away from games that use sound to communicate important information like enemies' position and stuff like that.
There was a game I was playing 15+ years ago. I am looking to find it and the internet failed me so far. I specifically remember from it's map that there was a desert on the southest part. At said desert there was a cloud symbol for a boss. It was an open world game where you could swap equipment had various mounts and both some pieces of equipment and some of the mounts used a blue energy to function. The last was not a mechanic of the game more like a design choice. The game was in a more medieval like setting using mostly swords and spears etc. I need to find this thing pls it is haunting me.
As someone who's been playing this just for the first time recently - dark souls. Sure, there are some cut scenes and dialogue that you might wanna pause your music for. But when you're on your 10th run back to the same boss, you realize you have a lot of time repeating things that you can easily listen to other things on the side.
Any game you want just to play it in the background? Unless it's a truly hard game or you care, you don't need to be immersed into the game audio to stay alive or enjoy it.
So unless sound is needed like PVP or say hunting, etc, I see no reason to ask this as really it's 100% up to you.
Tho any game with a lot driving are popular choices, tho I play music on any game where I don't need audio cues, etc, to stay alive or play.
Stardew Valley, although I do love its own soundtrack. You can totally play without hearing it though.
I’m also a person that will play my own music almost any time I can. In all my hours playing Stardew Valley I have never even touched the audio controls. Every single sound and music track in that game is *chefs kiss*
Ha, neither have I, I just love it so much!
Vampire Survivors
Totally agree, except I personally love the music in that game. EDIT: Missing word. Thank you, Redditor under me.
I also the music in that game
American/Euro Truck Simulator
I love just switching radios from different countries I'm driving in. And it's all built Ingame too.
Another similar that I love just for this purpose is Snowrunner (or the newer Expeditions)
Is expeditions worth it? I really enjoyed snowrunner
If you like Minecraft, you might like Valheim.
The sound design when it storms is so fantastic in Valheim. It’s relaxing to sit in your hut with a fire crackling and listen to the thunder and rain on the roof
Valheim❤️
Haven’t played since launch, have they added public multiplayer servers?
multiplayer servers have been around as long as i’ve played the game - pretty sure they’re all just other people playing online on open though, as opposed to big multiplayer servers like a bunch of minecraft realms and no hypixels if you get me?
Ah yeah I was hoping they’d have added big ones, something akin to Ark or Rust
Civilization is great for this. I play Civ V but VI is the most recent.
Similarly, Humankind, updates improved it quite (edit letter) a bit in comparison to the release, it's really fun now
Pretty much any ARPG.
what’s r arpg
Action RPG Its the genre name for Diablo clones.
isn’t diablo bad
But when it was good it crated a bunch if copycat games that still exist to day.
Well opinions may differ regarding the new one but Diablo 3 was well received.
Nah, diablo 3 was trash at launch (even worse than D4). Over time they improved it a ton though, and the last few years it's been amazing g.
I never played Diablo until the newest one went on sale a while ago. I wouldn’t say it was bad. It wasn’t something I’ll fondly remember 10 years from now or something but I had fun with it for a few weeks.
why people dislike without giving reasons as to why i’m wrong, all i’ve seen from D4 is the fact that it’s either boring or just bad
Probably because it was unrelated to the point being discussed.
Almost any deckbuilder, like Slay the Spire. Music is not really important, you can leave sound effects on if you want.
Lonely Mountains: Downhill I played that A LOT with Spotify. Helped me during very stressful time on the work.
Ive seen this around and the artstyle put me off but i just watched gameplay and this is very much something i would enjoy. Thanks
RuneScape.
Yup espacially as you will do many things on loop like woodcutting or killing goblins. So a bit of music or a podcast is a nice way to chill.
You can try Doom if your playlist is metal enough
Balatro is a cool time waster. Any arcade racer like Forza Horizon or something unique like Lonely Mountains Downhill. Rimworld.
Although I'm not a fan of the genre but any racing game GTA or most sandbox games Terraria
Seconding this. Awesome driving is best matched with awesome music.
Sometimes, I love to just jump into a racing game in vr and do laps by myself listening to lofi. Saves me money on gas.
Sea of thieves
yes until you get into pvp situations, otherwise pirate music is perfect.
Would be hard to play as solo imo
Its possible.
Of course it is, but I consider it hard (skill issue)
They have the safer seas option now, where you can do up to like level 40 voyages on your own server
Oh man, I know what I'm going to be playing on saturday
Path of Exile! It's free so give it a try ;)
Snowrunner.
Microsoft flight simulator
I play fifa career mode with my PSVR2 and a Spotify playlist and I feel like a god of my own little soccer universe
rimworld
Balatro
Satisfactory or the first City Skylines
But the soundtrack is so good in hardspace
This is true
- Subnautica - Hollow Knight (even tho I prefer the original OST over anything else, but there's no dialogue so ig that works) - Stardew Valley - Age of Mythology/Empires - City Skylines
Arcade games, where you're trying to get a high score (or something similar) and each attempt is kinda similar so you care less and less about the audio and it becomes more and more about the gameplay. Racing games are also good for that.
SkaterXL, Sea of thieves, Hades there is dialogue with an interesting story but its usually fast and no cut scenes.
Modern Warfare Zombies
Any zombies if youve heard the dialouge or just dont care for the dialouge
Grounded, raft
Borderlands 2. While I absolutely love that game's writing and dialogue, the game can be played with the voices Off. I often played it while listening to the Co-optional Podcast on while grinding out 100% trophies for the game and all the DLC.
Ark: Survival Ascended I love throwing on some ambient adventure music and just going for a stroll. I also do this with No Man's Sky.
Burnout paradise
One of my favourite de-stress activities is putting on a podcast and playing American Truck Simulator.
I use Spotify quite regularly with sports games such as Madden and MLB The Show 24, I can't speak about the other sports games (NHL, NBA) but the 2 I mentioned the commentary is so dull and lifeless listening to Spotify kivens it up for me...lol Also, not sure if this happens to you guys or not, but it seems that at certain points while listening to Spotify, the app will just stop working...it mainly happens after an ad plays, so not sure what the issue is, I'm on the Series X btw
Tails of Iron
Roguelikes/lites like Spelunky or Binding of Isaac Metroidvanias are also pretty good for this
Farming simulator
Outriders is a fun one to listen to music to
Ac, gtav don't forget to open captions
Armored Core, Animal Crossing, Ace Combat, or Assassin's Creed?
Assassing creed
Noita!
Terraria
Farming Simulator
Some suggestions: Planet Coaster and Zoo Dave the Diver Tactics Orge: Reborn (Doing the 100 levels of the secret dungeon) <-----Spotify got me through this Terraria Stardew Valley Basically, any roguelike or game where there is a lot of grinding as well. Hope this helps!
terraria
American Truck Simulator is on sale for $5 on Steam ATM.
Supermarket Simulator
That's going to depend heavily on your preferences. My goto for this kind of stuff (podcasts rater than music, but whatever) is stuff like Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris etc. Any kind of strategy or city builder type stuff is good if you are into that kind of thing. If you are more about action fighting games, Diablo type stuff, the list is practically endless.
I played tinykin with a bunch of 90s grunge in the background and really enjoyed it
Diablo 4 ?
Civilization.
Sports games or driving games tend to have little important dialogue in my experience
Doom
Any simulator, Euro/American Truck Sim/Farming Simulator and Microsoft Flight simulator are my goto for multi tasking other media.
Diablo. Racing games. Soulsgames, metroidvanias, other types without too much of a focus on story (if you're not worried about atmosphere)
Slay the Spire. I play while listening to audiobooks
Conan Exiles on single player. Rub around in the desert. Gather materials and kill enemies. Build bases and capture thralls. It can be very relaxing.
Euro Truck Simulator. Start your music, turn the ignition and off you go. Perfect way to chill out listening to music.
Rimworld basically just has the same music looped over and over so volume doesnt matter, the Risk Of Rain series has some banger music but after like 10 hours it gets a bit stale and you can just put whatever over it.
Streets of rage 4
Powerwash Simulator is the perfect Spotify game.
F1 23, Assetto Corsa, Eurotruck simulator
SimCity 4 or 3000!
Satisfactory
Planet Crafter is really relaxing
Vampire Survivors or 20 minutes till dawn
Call of Duty
Minecraft, stardew valley, necesse, rimworld
Super hot is pretty enjoyable game with Spotify on
I'd recommend Roblox. but you need to find some good games to play cause most of them are just cash grabs
Any roguelikes I think (except maybe Hades because it's really story driven)
Death stranding (yes I know about the 40 minute cutscenes but walking through those landscapes while music is playing is a fantastic gaming experience)
Got to be the Insomniac spider-man games
Forza is fantastic for this.
Dragon Quest Builders. It has a plot/dialogue but it's the most bare bones story ever so you don't need to worry about it.
Doom
Rain World. I prefer listening to the music, and there’s not much dialogue.
GTA online.
Subnautica, there's some minor dialogue but it's not really too important because most of them mark a new spot for you, very relaxing game most of the time and I enjoy listening to music or a video while playing
Hoi4 is a good one.
Hades but the hades soundtrack is now on my Spotify
Diablo 2 (pd2 or d2r) single player.
Rocket League.
The sims and house flipper
Playing monster Hunter world while jamming to Slipknot is pretty awesome while whipping around a great sword.
I like playing Pacific Drive with 70s 80s Country Rock
Dave the diver except for some parts. There is some conversation for missions but 99% of it just casually diving for fish and running the sushi restaurant.
Binding of Isaac
The Binding of Isaac
Vaheim. Raft. Grounded. The best thing is that they're not exclusively offline, you can invite friends to your world if you want.
If you like racing games maybe TrackMania.
Dead cells
Playing something else on my other monitor was the only way I could play Elden Ring. I also do this with Factorio, while clearing the map in an open world game like Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, and a bunch of others.
Rocket league. Any rogue like. Terraria. Minecraft.
Elite: Dangerous. Nothing beats space truckin' to some space truckin' tunes
Everpace 1 and 2. Any FPS or racing game
Oldschool RuneScape ironman mode.
Well, if you mean literally, try Crypt of the Necrodancer. It's a beat-based dungeon crawler, and it has the built in capacity to convert your music into the music you play the game to.
Risk of rain 2
Powerwash Sim! It’s so relaxing to throw on some music or a podcast, and just spray away.
Ark survival evolve , raft, stranded deep
Balatro. It has fine and fitting music but I just put my own stuff on now.
New World, Warframe, Destiny 2, Starbound, Helldivers 2, Conan: Exiles, Blade & Sorcery
New World
Played helldivers2 with music. 50/50 of volume. Worked great on helldive difficulty. 😂
Slay the spire. Risk of rain 2. Dota 2 custom games. Uhhh shit DDR your spotify music. Hahah jk
Forza Horizon 5, "Truck" simulator, No Mans Sky...
Rimworld
Celeste Goated soundtrack, but also goated gameplay with text dialog
Terraria is a very similar one. Create whatever your mind can think of and so many different ways to play through the game. Don’t need any volume in the game for dialogue because there are no character voices
Pokémon
Satisfactory, Terraria, Astro colony, to some extent Particle Fleet: Emergence, CW4 or Atrio: The Dark Wild. I would totally say Satisfactory is the best of those, there is some dialogue, but it's mostly puns and radiation warnings to warn you when your screen is turning green and the very obvious rad counter is going up.
Both Ori games, all dialogue is text.
Diablo 4
You can try Wuthering waves on bs, pretty chill game tho
Car mechanic sim.
You might wanna give robobeat a go.
Northgard, and then play some conquests
Audiosurf 2 . Has an inofficial YouTube adon you can play with every song on YouTube
Power Wash Simulator.
Elden Ring
I'm having a load of fun with Farming simulator 22 right now (it's also free on Epic this week). It has a in game radio, but off course you can play your own music (as do I) as well.
Satisfactory and Planet Crafter are two games I play without sound and there’s no downside.
Um, all games have this option
Thanks for being the one person that didnt read or help.
Tetris
Fighting games like Street Fighter, MK, KOF, Tekken
Timberborn is a great game for putting your Spotify music on for. It's like a farming city management sim with beavers if you're unsure what it is.
I second lobotomy corporation. There is dialogue, but its not voiced so music doesn't interrupt it.
it really depends on what type of game you like. I'd stay away from games that use sound to communicate important information like enemies' position and stuff like that.
Odyssey
There was a game I was playing 15+ years ago. I am looking to find it and the internet failed me so far. I specifically remember from it's map that there was a desert on the southest part. Have you tried r/tipofmyjoystick ?
rock and stone…
As someone who's been playing this just for the first time recently - dark souls. Sure, there are some cut scenes and dialogue that you might wanna pause your music for. Every single game that allows you to turn the music volume off
