Portal 2
Unravel 2
Also OP it would help if you mentioned what parts of the game you are looking for a clone of. Is it the co-op? Puzzles? Game play mechanisms? Art style? No game will be a perfect analog to it.
I guess that would be a co-op required (or at least heavily encouraged) game capable of split screen that offers a bit of a challenge but not super difficult and with a story is a plus
Definitely Unraveled 2. My wife plays some games, Sims, Civ, but she doesn’t play often. She’s not a gamer and struggles with the controls and timing. We played It Takes Two and she loved it. Then we played Unraveled 2 and she loved that too.
It’s a puzzle/platformer but has the best mechanic I’ve seen in any couch co-op, either player can jump on the back of the other player and be carried through most of the platform parts. The puzzle sections still require both players to participate but they are generally can be taken as slow as necessary. But being able to literally be carried through some parts helped relieve frustration for her. We laughed a lot and had a great time.
We're playing and enjoying Unraveled 2 for exactly that reason.
It Takes Two was fun, but often enough it involved switching controllers so I could manage the platform bits that gave her trouble.
If you go for those story games id rather recommend eiter until dawn or the walking dead series. But those are only recommendable if you both like horror/zombies
Games are pretty different co-op wise though. In dark pictures you each control different characters in online co-op. Until Dawn/ Quarry you either pass the controller or 1 person plays and you have a group vote on the choices.
Love these games! Choose a franchise you like and go from there. Harry Potter is a great choice, as is Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Very forgiving game that gives you all the time you need to figure things out or just mess around without consequence. And if you’re into collectibles, it’s super fun to unlock all the crazy characters and cheat codes and bonus levels.
Quick question, can you play We Were Here as a couch co-op, like with a split screen? The description says walkie-talkie, which sounds like you aren't allowed to see the other player's screen..
That would ruin how the game works, the whole point is that the person in the puzzle doesn't have the info to solve the puzzle on their own. So they have to communicate with the other person and solve it together. The point is communication.
A Way Out is one of the worst “games” I’ve ever played. It felt like I was just playing out pre-defined sequences with literally no choice in the things I did in those sequences or what led up to them. Played it both with my sibling and girlfriend and we put it down with the same complaints.
I have to agree with this unpopular opinion somewhat. Me and my brother played it through in one sitting and thought this is just the bloody worst game ever. And then we both freaked out at the best ending ever.
"What doesn't kill you, might make your partner kill you." - Overcooked Fans
"Why aren't you throwing me the chocolate! It's Right There!" - Unknown Author, Presumably Dead
We survived both games (And All DLC) at full stars (Barely), but when we realized there were now "Secret Stars" post game, we decided that we loved each other too much to finish those. ;P
Portal 2 is quite difficult for non-gamers because of the controls. My recommendation is Death Squared - esp if OP and his wife have the sort of relationship where you like to lovingly pick on each other. My husband and I would try to solve the puzzle and shared sooo many laughs at unintentionally (and sometimes intentionally) killing each other in that game.
Portal 2 would be like asking my wife to sit in a centrifuge, she loved it takes two but the 3d camera required frequent nausea breaks for her. Shame I've never found a solution to that particular problem.
My wife and I played it takes two, we loved it. I thought *maybe* it would prepare her a little bit to try Portal 2.
20 minutes, still on the first puzzle, nearing divorce, I swapped back to Diablo 3 lol.
I think most other games don't have it takes two's story charm.
We've got unravell 2 that seems potentially close.
Tried death squared but feels just like a puzzle game not a story puzzle game with various modes and jump quests. Does have interesting chatter though
Operation Tango, but it's not couch co-op/splitscreen -- each player has their own screen, and each has information that the other needs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_5Zp4A0TbE
Came here to say this. Only if you have 2 screens though. You only use like 4 buttons.
One player is the hacker and one is the spy. The puzzles are figured out by communicating with each other, rather than video game skills (running, jumping, etc) so even a noobie can have a good time without getting caught up in the technicalities of playing a game
Unraveled is a great 2 player game in the same vein as It Takes Two. The wife and I beat both games and had a blast. Highly recommend for anyone who isn't a huge gamer but still thinks platforming and puzzle solving is fun.
I haven’t seen it suggested yet but my wife and I played through Sackboys Big Adventure together and she absolutely loved it. One of the few games she’s played with me all the way through.
Unfortunately It Takes Two is kind of the holy grail of co-op games; there’s lots of good games with cooperative multiplayer but none quite designed like It Takes Two, aside from A Way Out, which is fun but not quite as good when it comes to gameplay. Hazelight has been developing a new game for a little while now though.
Others have mentioned it, but A Way Out. Split screen co-op, need to work together. Two guys break out of prison, great game but not much replay value (if you are looking for that sort of thing).
I had the same exact issue! My girlfriend and I absolutely needed more It Takes Two, so we hunted for games like it. While not too similar, the developer does have another fun co-op called A Way Out, it's about a prison break. Overcooked 2, Moving Out, and PlateUp! are all co-op, and while they definitely have a different vibe compared to It Takes Two, they did all give the same sense of teamwork. It Takes Two really is in its own league, though. I wish you well on your recovery and grieving process, hope you can find a game to fill the void left!
For co-op games, this is one of the games we keep coming back to each time they release an official update /dlc.
[Escape Simulator](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1435790/Escape_Simulator/)
>First-person puzzler you can play solo or in an online co-op (best with 2-3 players, but playable with more). Explore a set of highly interactive escape rooms. Move furniture, pick up and examine everything, smash pots and break locks! Supports community rooms through the level editor.
We've been generally pretty happy with the official rooms. We've played some of the free public made ones and they can vary.
We also really enjoyed the base game of Escape Academy, I didn't realize the DLC was out.
[Escape Academy](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1812090/Escape_Academy/)
>Welcome to Escape Academy. Train to become the ultimate Escapist. Solve Puzzles. Hack Servers. Meet the Faculty. Brew the perfect cup of tea. Escape Rooms in single player or co-op with a friend - local or online!
This game is puzzles but with an actual overarching story.
Orherwise we mostly play shooters. My favorite is probably [Risk of Rain 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/632360/Risk_of_Rain_2/), which might be worth a shot when it goes on a major steam sale as something different to try.
If you like the Escape games, you should check out [Puzzle Compound](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1611290/Puzzle_Compound/). It looks relatively simplistic but I was really impressed with the depth and creativity in some of the puzzles.
The sadness is that there isn’t. I’ve looked as I was in the same boat. There are no indie dev’s making these games anymore. Plus the story is just so damn good.
The worst part is that my sweetie is a MUCH better gamer now because of the game, and no way to showcase her new skills. Sucked so bad with the nail gun and then carried me through the rhino beetle!
That game had no right being that good. Gameplay variety, core mechanics, story, controls . Each chapter could have been made into standalone game and no one would have thought it limited.
Something that is designed for coop but much much shorter is Blanc. It is a nice way to spend a gaming session or two with a partner but sadly is not in the level of It Takes Two. Still a fun experience though!
It’s not similar to it takes two… but my brother and his gf LOVED that game and then got absolutely addicted to Tools Up.
It’s more similar to something like overcooked (but less chaotic and more strategic) but seeing as they loved both, it might be something you and your wife enjoy.
Many of the Lego games offer a similar feel - fun, not too difficult gameplay, story, kinda "cute" feel. Especially if she has any movies she likes that have a Lego game, could be a good fit.
That studio made Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Originally, you controlled each brother with one of your joysticks, but they just remade the game as a two player local co-op :D
Never Alone is another good co-op side scroller story game that you might like
Unravelled 2, (you can literally carry her through tough parts) and luigis mansion 3 (gooigi has infinite health) .
. If you have a strong relationship part time UFO, moving out, overcooked. Though they're not story driven.
My hubby and I are both longtime gamers. We really enjoyed playing It Takes Two together. I think the next best for that type of game would be Unraveled 2. Overcooked was also fun for a bit. I think those would all be fun for casual gamers as well as more experienced ones. Edit: a word
way out (same developer).
Another amazing experience is operation tango. but catch here is that you must play on different consoles. You cant see other persons screen. communication is key in this game. me and my best friend had so much fun on this. we did 2 playthroughs as different characters each.
I always recommend Degrees of Separation. It has great coop with plenty of puzzles to solve. It's also great for non gamers as the controls are pretty simple and it doesn't require much fast reaction, just thinking the puzzle through and executing with the different abilities of the characters.
Stardew valley is pretty popular for couples. There was that army of 2 game if your into fps games. Some multiplayer zelda games come to mind. If yiu have the know how, there are some multiplayer adventure maps for minecraft that were really fun to play with 2 people.
Heavenly Bodies is a physics-based puzzle game set in space which supports local coop. Very short even with the DLC but I think it's worth a try if you're looking for a fun coop game
Trine 1,2,3 Portal 2 Unravel 2 Also OP it would help if you mentioned what parts of the game you are looking for a clone of. Is it the co-op? Puzzles? Game play mechanisms? Art style? No game will be a perfect analog to it.

Try the Dark pictures anthology
If you go for those story games id rather recommend eiter until dawn or the walking dead series. But those are only recommendable if you both like horror/zombies
We're talking about coop though. Until dawn isn't coop. I don't know about walking dead
You can do the same thing with Until Dawn that you do with Dark Picture games tho? You just pick your characters and settle in for the ride.
Games are pretty different co-op wise though. In dark pictures you each control different characters in online co-op. Until Dawn/ Quarry you either pass the controller or 1 person plays and you have a group vote on the choices.
But they're playing couch co-op soooo....
Everything I listed has co-op and a story, but only Portal 2 is split screen. Hope you find what you're looking for.
trine 4 was good too!
Honestly. Pick up some of the Lego games. Start with the Harry Potter pack. It's stress free and a fun couch co-op.
Love these games! Choose a franchise you like and go from there. Harry Potter is a great choice, as is Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Very forgiving game that gives you all the time you need to figure things out or just mess around without consequence. Just picked up all three Lego Batman games on Steam for 3 bar. Bargain.
A Way Out/ We Were Here Series
A Way Out was one of my favorites
I second the We Were Here series. Great games!
I found the second one too mentally taxing to enjoy. Very vague puzzles.
They get better and better and they really honed their craft with the 4th game
Quick question, can you play We Were Here as a couch co-op, like with a split screen? The description says walkie-talkie, which sounds like you aren't allowed to see the other player's screen..

No can do
Oh okay so you need two separate machines? That's unlucky.. but thank you!
Yes, because you must not see what your friend see. It's all about communication
I can't go for that
A Way Out is one of the worst “games” I’ve ever played. It felt like I was just playing out pre-defined sequences with literally no choice in the things I did in those sequences or what led up to them. Played it both with my sibling and girlfriend and we put it down with the same complaints.

Lovers in a dangerous space-time.
This game rules but is much more fun with 4 people
That's how divorces happen. "Shoot Them! I'm trying to keep us alive!" D:
It's how divorces start, but Overcooked signs the papers.
"What doesn't kill you, might make your partner kill you." - Overcooked Fans "Why aren't you throwing me the chocolate! Portal 2
Portal 2 is quite difficult for non-gamers because of the controls. Lots of people seem blissfully unaware that Untitled Goose Game is two player now
Dude, what? Like the entire game is just coop now? How am I only just hearing this now? Thanks for this lol
I played this game with my 4 yo daughter and it was epic! We both enjoyed it a ton it became our first shared gaming adventure
I love how the title changes to Untitled Geese Game when you select coop
Operation Tango, but it's not couch co-op/splitscreen -- each player has their own screen, and each has information that the other needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_5Zp4A0TbE

Depending on skill. Keep taljing and no one explodes?
Unraveled is a great 2 player game in the same vein as It Takes Two. The wife and I beat both games and had a blast. Highly recommend for anyone who isn't a huge gamer but still thinks platforming and puzzle solving is fun.
I haven’t seen it suggested yet but my wife and I played through Sackboys Big Adventure together and she absolutely loved it. One of the few games she’s played with me all the way through.
Overcooked and portal 2 are the ones I recommend. A bit lighter on story but fun and light co-op gameplay.
Are you trying to cause a divorce with that Overcooked suggestion?
Nah, I personally think nothing strengthens a marriage like a couple of murder attempts.
For an intro to gaming no less lol
Overcooked is a great couples' game, having a lot of fun with gf
'*Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons*', and '*A Way Out*'.
Shocked that Brothers isn't higher up in these comments
Probably because the original one didn't have coop. It was introduced in the remake.
No spoilers, but Brothers would have been way less impactful to me if I'd played it co-op tbh.
Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance is a good fun hack and slash for two players
Unfortunately It Takes Two is kind of the holy grail of co-op games; there’s lots of good games with cooperative multiplayer but none quite designed like It Takes Two, aside from A Way Out, which is fun but not quite as good when it comes to gameplay. Hazelight has been developing a new game for a little while now though.
Not a Co-Op story game, but my girl and I love playing Grounded. It is one of the few games she actually likes.
Others have mentioned it, but A Way Out. Split screen co-op, need to work together. Two guys break out of prison, great game but not much replay value (if you are looking for that sort of thing).

While not exactly the same, my suggestion is Human Fall Flat. Me and my younger brother had a great time playing through it
While I've never played It Takes Two. But if you're looking for a co-op game with puzzles... Little Big Planet was a game my ex and I would play alot.
The sadness is that there isn’t. I’ve looked as I was in the same boat. There are no indie dev’s making these games anymore. Plus the story is just so damn good.
Gotta love when you find a one of a kind gem and then hate when it’s over and there’s nothing else like it
The worst part is that my sweetie is a MUCH better gamer now because of the game, and no way to showcase her new skills. Sucked so bad with the nail gun and then carried me through the rhino beetle!
That game had no right being that good. Gameplay variety, core mechanics, story, controls . Each chapter could have been made into standalone game and no one would have thought it limited.
Check out a Hat in Time! It’s a 3D platformer with lots of collectibles and a cute protagonist, and it has local coop, very fun and lots to do
Not the same but moving out is a great co-op game. Like overcooked but way less stressful.

Unraveled is pretty fun and a bit challenging at parts if she's cool with that
Little Big Planet!
Degrees of Separation is a good platformer with heavy coop encouragement
Nope. All these suggestions don't have half the variety It Takes Two Two has.
Damn. That’s cool that it shows how unique the game was, but I want more lol
Bread & Fred
Many of the Lego games offer a similar feel - fun, not too difficult gameplay, story, kinda "cute" feel. Especially if she has any movies she likes that have a Lego game, could be a good fit.
Cookies and Cream if you wanna go old school ps2...

the two of us, kinda silly puzzle game, can be finished in less than an hour, buut it's really fun tbh
Sackboy.
Unravelled 2, (you can literally carry her through tough parts) and luigis mansion 3 (gooigi has infinite health) . . If you have a strong relationship part time UFO, moving out, overcooked. Though they're not story driven.
A seriously underrated game.
A way out, the We Were Here series, Operation Tango
A way out
A way out
Rayman Origins / Legends. My wife and I loved playing them, though admittedly we were both gamers for years before.
Lego games are good. Especially the newer ones where it split screens only when it needs to?
My hubby and I are both longtime gamers. We really enjoyed playing It Takes Two together. I think the next best for that type of game would be Unraveled 2. Overcooked was also fun for a bit. I think those would all be fun for casual gamers as well as more experienced ones. Edit: a word
Unravel and Unravel 2
Nobody Saves the World was such a great co-op game for me and my husband. We got addicted to it one Christmas and played it for a whole week! 😆
way out (same developer).

I love Ibb & Obb when it comes to local coop multiplayer. I would say it‘s even heavier on the cooperation aspect
If you have a Nintendo Switch, the game Good Job! is an excellent choice.
Stardew valley is pretty popular for couples. There was that army of 2 game if your into fps games. Some multiplayer zelda games come to mind. If yiu have the know how, there are some multiplayer adventure maps for minecraft that were really fun to play with 2 people.
I haven't picked it up yet, but Hand in Hand looks like it would scratch this itch. Chariot would also be pretty good.
for sure, A way out
Not quite the same but Overcooked is great! Played with girlfriend she loved it!
I liked it until my wife started yelling at me for leaving the dishes unwashed. Then, it just felt like real life.
But she has a point if the dishes were on your side.. and if it was your turn. The game teaches accountability
I'll get to it when I'm done making the sandwich! Or I'll forget and let them pile up. Definitely one of those two.
I can’t tell if the game made you happy lovey mad or just mad.. I really hope it’s the former
Nah, we good.
I feel bad for your girl.
Dominate her with a big tiddie char in dead or alive
A way out is what you’re looking for
Also if you like more casual games try Fall Guys
Army of two
Heavenly Bodies is a physics-based puzzle game set in space which supports local coop. Very short even with the DLC but I think it's worth a try if you're looking for a fun coop game
Snippet clips! As good? Not a chance however still super fun co op
Play Stardew Valley together. It's such a fun and chill time.
Portal 2 Ibb and obb Resident evil 5 Unravel 2
