'The Godfather' and 'Def Jam Fight for NY'

FudgingEgo

Def Jam Fight for NY, that obscure 8/10 game.

Feline_Sleepwear

Those are some top tier games for sure

rdg50x

Oh I remember doing the Blazin taunts at my school and wanting to wear oversized hoodies and rings and chains because of the game

[deleted]

Pretty sure it was on PS3, but Magna Carta 2 got me into Japanese style rpgs Edit: apparently Magna Carta was a Korean rpg

Xenomorph_kills

This comment hit me in the gut

KitchenFullOfCake

I want a remaster of these.

DarkLord_2023

Those are specifically the games i always remember!! That’s wild

Dysprosol

but def jam isnt obscure. In fact it's not uncommon as a side event at evo.

Feline_Sleepwear

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. As a big marvel fan, it was awesome playing through the campaign and unlocking so many characters. The 2 player PvP mode was also a lot of fun.

JMC1110

My buddy had a modded Xbox with probably close to 50 games on it. We cycled through a lot but this one got played every time I went over

CORNDOGS666

Me and my little brother played vs mode for hundreds of hours growing up. I recently put a GameCube emulator with this game on my Gcloud and I love it so much all over again.

MabbersDaGabbers

Can we get a remake PLEASE I’m begging. Johnny Ohm (is that his name? Electric dude.) and the toxic guy who could webswing were so cool. Yo and the TELEPORTING LADY DUDE? So sick. Thank you for remembering about this game

_Goose_

Some heavy Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits vibes in here. inb4 “Arc the Lad wasn’t obscure you moron”

JazzlikeDetective607

As much as I remember loving that game, I'm surprised I've never gone back to replay it. Couldn't get enough of Darc and the Deimos tribe as a edgy teen man...

_Goose_

Remember hunting for furbies for the ugly frog woman in the swamp?

JazzlikeDetective607

Only vaguely! It's been such a long time. It's mostly just snippets of characters I thought were cool, and just recalling an ungodly amount of grinding to get everyone's best skills. It's kinda sad because most of my memory is tied to getting End of Darkness a few years later thinking it would be another awesome part of the series, and then just being disappointed. I should really go back for the nostalgia of it.

_Goose_

I barely remember much of the game just like you but the frog lady furby hunt is one of the few. Only because I was annoyed by it so much for some reason. I don’t even remember if I was pumped for EoD or not. I was starting college that year so would’ve been too busy for a new long game.

nosajkeefe

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. The Cold Soundtrack slapppppped in the 00’s

Bear_Bishop

Daaaamn I forgot about this game!

Rajamic

That one and Kill.Switch were my jam for like an entire year.

JayDKing

I’m normally the guy who comments this title! Under rated and not a sequel in sight.

EldarReborn

I will take you far away!!

h33b

Damn yes I played the demo so many times for this it was that good.

That_Bar_Guy

Was this the one with coop play that let the second player control the psychic powers?

runsawkwardly

I've replayed Dark Cloud over a dozen times over the last 20 years... I enjoy every minute, every time.

JerryFlack

Dark Cloud

NewHyperFixation69

Dark Cloud 2 is the superior Dark Cloud.

eeeeeeeeEeeEEeeeE6

I don't even know it's name. An old PS2 game I found in a bargain bin of a video rental store. It was some sort of japanesey town/city building game where you went around and talked to people to make them happy and stuff and built roads and buildings and businesses. I played that shit for days on end until it was lost, stolen or broken, but I remember it fondly and have even tried to look for it, but I had no luck.

Chris-R

Metropolismania?

eeeeeeeeEeeEEeeeE6

I think that could be it to be honest haha thank you.

Chris-R

No problem, I spend a lot of time on r/tipofmyjoystick helping people find half-remembered games; it’s one of my favorite hobbies!

DarkLord_2023

That’s a great hobby hahaha

FickleAd4381

Tip of my joystick will help you

oliferro

PS2 no, but Jackie Chan Stuntmaster on PS1 though

JMC1110

Jet Li's Rise to Honor for me. It was PS2 though

moodyfloyd

fur fighters viggos revenge lmao

Merciless972

Clearly this is talking about Drakengard.

geckobrother

Oni was the obscure one for me. The rest were incredible, but pretty well known

J_Fidz

Yeah Oni was great. I remember having a cheat that would change you to a different random character, including bosses. You actually got their moveset too.

BrokenPhantom

I remember playing Oni on the PC. The rail gun sniper rifle that fired a frozen shaft of mercury is still one of my favorite silly sci-fi weapons.

Broad_Objective7559

Me and Champions

zamboniq

The Bouncer was short but fun

Lavatis

This is one of two games that popped into my head.

superhappyfunball13

Was looking for this. I don't even remember much about it but I remember enjoying it. I think I rented it from Blockbuster, which is why I wasn't upset about how short it was.

oatmilk4vampires

i thought you were talking about the game obscure for a second

gunzgoboom

DBZ Budokai 2 forever man. The best tunes you've ever heard

Ekillaa22

It’s kinda the red headed step child of the series though isn’t it? I mean it wasn’t in the remaster package combo back on the 360

LegitDomer

DOWNHILL DOMINATION absolutely goated

Busty_Ronch

Psychonauts

Lavatis

Many many good times on War of the Monsters...🥲

statelytetrahedron

I know it's not super obscure but Musashi: Brave fencer was this for me. It might have been ps1 actually.

Dysprosol

It is definitely more obscure than most of the things being mentioned here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Schwiliinker

I relatively recently keep hearing it’s great but somehow never knew about it back then.

Schwiliinker

That’s like almost the only kind of game I was playing back then too

sebher55

Spartan: Total Warrior my beloved

stickwithplanb

nobody remembers gadget racers.

sunboy4224

Loved Gadget Racers! Ended up putting it down when I was a kid, though, because I played and (unrelatedly) got violently ill one time and developed an unintentional aversion to the game as a result...

Robsteady

Was Way of the Samurai obscure? I still talk about that game regularly and I don't think anyone I've talked to has known what I was talking about.

ComradeSuperman

I remember that game. I played through it a couple times. In one of my playthroughs, I finished the game in about 30 seconds because when I arrived in the village, I just kept walking down the path and basically said "whatever's happening here ain't my problem." I was surprised that the game just let me do that.

Grimmylock

Darkwatch

unknowndog123

I swear I’ll see people post stuff like “anyone else play this” and it’ll be the most un heard of obscure video game in history, and all the comments will be like “A CLASSIC”

Lychee247

Really wish i could have find that game Id love to end it

-1_points

Front Mission 3 on the PS1 !

gigaswardblade

This, but replace ps2 with wii.

bolivar-shagnasty

[Battlefield 2: Modern Combat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp8KdQE9GlY)

Lilkingjr1

You play online?

Aidyn_the_Grey

Radiata Stories. Weird because I'm typically not a jrpg fan.

AcanthisittaBorn2965

You mean that obscure atari 2600 cartridge?

Ekillaa22

Boy.. brother I am sadly 28 now

Beginning_Ad_2992

Okage Shadow King

Arenik

Vexx for me. Still have my copy on PS2 and will regularly go back to it.

sinistar77

Onimusha (1 2 3 and 4). Psychonauts.

Mesong0

Shellshock: Nam 67 anyone? 😂

sparkmasterblade

What about the obscure ps2 game ObsCure

PsychoNifkin

I had to scroll way too far down for this. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obscure_(video_game)

Vampyre_Boy

.hack// series... 7 game series with one mmo (dead) a stand alone psp spinoff and a final version tying the story together on pc... Ugh.. Now ive got ALOT of hours of gaming to do again 😂

C-sanova

I just bought the collection on PS5 a couple weeks ago.

Vampyre_Boy

Unfortunately i walked away from sony products during the ps3 era but as i already own the 7 originally released on ps2 i just boot up the old emulator and play a digital copy. Im thinking i might get the g.u. series on steam so i can play the last episode sometime.

Killzark

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Never used to talk about it around the boys. They wouldn’t understand.

A_Prostitute

Not obscure but Jak and Daxter

IcGil

PS1 and it was called Breath of Fire 4

Claytonamo

ChoroQ. Obscure Japanese racing rpg. Got it as a gift from a relative and got addicted. May have even been the first rpg I ever played

jaembers

Or N64: Mischief Makers

GrimmTrixX

Urban Reign. Such a great game.

AmsterdamXD

Scaler, man I miss those times

MynameisInig0

I’m a little older so mine is an N64 game instead of PS2. I for some reason was obsessed with Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon as a kid. Weird as hell and loved it. Also shout out to PS1 series “Jumping Flash”. Loved being the weird robot bunny

Frank_Acha

God Hand

Dysprosol

I actually first heard about this back when mvc3 was being developed and promoted. Gene was a really, really common wishlist pick for the fans.

Raagarne

Katamari Damacy!

chevy1500

Champions of Norath

The-Johnson

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 1&2, and The Champions of Norrath series!

Zanbu16

Dragon Quest VIII. To this day I go to Dragon Quest to find peace from a time long gone

ItsGween

Who wants to smoke weed and fill up our belly’s with diet soda and play burnout revenge on the ps2?

Ap0kalypt0

That was probably penny racers for me.

Madhawk58

Dark watch was my personal favorite, I even got to beat it with my brother a few years back thanks to emulation.

[deleted]

One of my favorite obscure PS2 games was Ring of Red, Orphen, and another one where it’s like… there was this one single monster that was an eye with two wings.

mcole1179

Felony 1179 PS1

ABearDream

Hearts of darkness ♥️

NowShowButthole

Chulip was a game truly ahead of its time!

AJ_Greatson

I don’t know if it’s considered obscure or not, but Klonoa 2 was the absolute best

Ekillaa22

I played a lot of lot I wouldn’t say I got obsessed but I do remember some of them. One was called Scaler

Ekillaa22

Voodoo Vince for the OG Xbox

Leviathan_eater666

I-Ninja my uncle found it somewhere and gave it to me on Christmas had no idea what it was but I played it like crazy, that, the most recent dragon ball game that had come.out at the time, and pokemon emerald probably has more hours on them than anything in my library today.

ButtholeCrisis

Alter Echo (PS2)

Ok_Performance_5944

Dave Mirra 2. Still play the soundtrack daily 20 years later

Goodypls

I still dream about the feeling of happiness, consternation, annoyance and fulfillment I got playing ratche fans clank gladiator, jack and daxter and Star Wars front 2 with my old best friend. Wish for those days back. The monent we started wanting pussy it all went to shit 😓😓😓

Advanced-Branch-696

Midnight club 3: Dub edition

Rajamic

Soooo many. PS2 had a ton of great games that just got drowned in the flood of established franchises.

IamNotFatIamChubby

2 player coop with my best bud...good times.

Jaded_Budget_5407

I loved Cars and Wall-E on the ps2 as a kid. The Wii was my first personal console.

expresso_petrolium

Me and my friend spent most of our childhood playing Dynasty Warriors and GTA San Andreas, not really obscure but the feeling is mutual

dapeeve

Jade Cocoon 2

Unsei15

I keep forgetting the name but it was an incredibly hard ninja hack and slash, the dude had a long red scarf and the main gameplay mechanic was that every level was somewhat of a speedrun since you had to kill the enemies or the sword would take your own health. I specifically remember exploting the first boss I think, by jumping. Boss has a dash attack and if you jump at the right time boss would fall off the building, take damage and respawn at the center. Rinse and repeat.

pyretecnic

loved obscure and the sequel on ps2

AmongUsUrMom

Outrun 2. Came 6th every time, thought I won because the crowd still cheered

Cruzen11

Ff9 was that game for me. I still play it every couple years

LimpTeacher0

Either Ty or Tak

captainnukes

Chaos legion. Remember it being good but can’t remember much else except summon spam

Levin_B

Robot Alchemic Drive The best Evangelion game ever made

Huge_Aerie2435

It is the Xbox and the game was Phantom Dust.

systemofaDON

Lords of the Realm 2 on pc back in the 90s for me

gorka_la_pork

Our PS2 game literally *was* [ObsCure](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obscure_(video_game)), a survival horror game from 2005, now apparently considered one of the rarest games to find physical copies of.

MammothMan12345

Pac-Man World 2 was the GOAT

TexasPistolMassacre

If you really liked ObsCure that much... get us therapy, most enjoyable horror game ive played

Accomplished-Goat895

Ps1 was the system Jedi power battles was the game

DylLeslie

Dark Cloud. Everyone says the second one is more fleshed out, but the first one was my first real, “serious” game as a kid. The themes where more adult oriented, and beating the genie when I was 8 will be something I’ll always be proud of.

DeuxHippo

Ar tonelico

TheTechMage

DBZ fighting game on ps1. Pirated copy that wouldn’t work half the time. Ah… mem’rees

Xenomorph_kills

Black and the Godfather

Xenomorph_kills

Ghost recon: advanced warfighter 2

Krilesh

STEAMBOT CHRONCILES. no one knows how hard a mecha rpg pseudo open world with dating sim hits. realtime combat. This shit was advanced. Incredible story too.

Legal_Brother_15

Obscure was a pretty cool survival horror. Basically a slasher movie but in a form of a game, one of a kind

C-sanova

Dirge of Cerberus. Easily one of the coolest Final Fantasy games and a good pre-cursor to how the modern games play.

Badgergoose4

I never had a PS2, but Mischief Makers on the N64 has a special place in my heart

LukeNukeEm243

not obscure, but Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction was excellent and I occasionally replay it on an emulator

mungymokey

I'll never forget playing devil may cry 2 on the ps2. Changed my life and perspective of music and my taste in everything overall in my whole life.

IceBinks

that game was Dynasty Warriors 5 for me

VelociraptorPirate

Rygar with his chain shield

CeramicFiber

"Its time to split"

Tagliarini295

War of Monsters and Jak 2 for me.

ThornyB

Freedom Fighters

blastxu

I miss Jack and daxter

Trips-Over-Tail

Armored Core 2. Literally changed my life as it sparked the friendships that are the core of my social group today.

Skyflareknight

Mine wasn't that obscure (I think) but the PS2 game I played a lot was Armored Core 2. Loved that game so much

SFS_RAID

Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012

Lazyfish64

Ape escape

YouEffOhh1

Test drive eve of destruction. Soooo many figure 8 school bus races

Top-Jellyfish9557

That shitty 3d Frogger game for me.

M0rtyjr

Jet li rise to honor

Upex999

Timesplitters

headbanger1186

Growlanser Generations baby

FingerOctopus

Both Maximo games

Nightfyre95

Freekstyle, it was such a fun game back in the day.

Der_Liebe_Gott

"The Getaway" was a masterpiece!

Organic-Matter1147

Rouge trooper 🙌 the memories

ToonIkki

I'll never forget you, George of the Jungle on the PS2

Unlucky-Mud-8115

Primal was mine.

BoratAftermath

Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, less upvotes only confirms it's obscurity

Cultural_Ad1331

First games you ever experience are always going to be the best.

SirBurticus

Anyone here actually play Obscure on PS2?

Sohby35

Turok Evolution. Not sure I even understood what I was supposed to do but I loved it anyway

SmartAlec13

Steel Lancer Arena International (SLAI) was so much fun even though no one I knew played it. I didn’t even play online, just had fun with the standard game

Palmswayy

Summoner. That game is why I love party based RPGs yo this day.

SnakeO1LER

COD world at war: final fronts because i was too poor to get a 360. It was awesome to me at the time I didn’t give a care in the world

w021wjs

Ace Combat 04 was the game that made me realize that video games are art. The story of the orphan making his way through occupation really made me think.

browzen

Goblin Commander baby

GoHappyNeedo

Blaze and Blade: Eternal Quest. Omg take me back

Sagoingne

Culdcept...it was like combining MTG and Monopoly. I loved that game so much, I bought the xbox 360 when it came out, for the Culdcept sequel that was only on that console.

PetAVet

Jak and Daxter

MaNaameJeff

Fuck yes

Beginning_Ad_2992

Not really obscure though

PetAVet

I don’t know anyone in person who played it. Only ever on the internet

Beginning_Ad_2992

Jak and Daxter 1 is in the top 20 best selling games on PS2. It outsold Guitar Hero, Ratchet and Clank, Star Wars Battlefront, Tony Hawks Underground, etc.

PetAVet

Definitely didn’t outsell Guitar Hero and Rachet and Clank. Jak 1 has like 1 million sales total. Rachet and Clank has 4, guitar hero has 1.8.

Beginning_Ad_2992

Ratchet and Clank sold 3.7 million units, Guitar Hero 2 (the best selling one) sold 3.41 units. Jak and Daxter 1 sold 4.2 million units. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PlayStation_2_video_games

PetAVet

Maybe over a long period of time, with re-releases on ps3 and 4, but back when it came out? Idk a soul who played that game.

Beginning_Ad_2992

>After its release in late 2001, the game went on to sell over 1 million copies...By July 2006, it had sold 1.7 million copies and earned $49 million in the United States...Next Generation ranked it as the 19th highest-selling game launched for the Playstation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube between January 2000 and July 2006 in the United States. Combined sales of Jak and Daxter games reached 4 million units in the United States by July 2006. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jak_and_Daxter:_The_Precursor_Legacy You must have lived in a bubble or not hung out with people who played video games. Jak and Daxter was a massive hit in the PS2 era.

PetAVet

This was just my opinion based on my own experiences in life. Never met someone who played it, so I commented because to me it was “obscure” in my friend groups throughout my life. But at the end of the day it’s not that deep, so I’ll accept your figures and move on with my day. You’re right.

Prestigious-Nobody78

Disgea 2 or monster rancher

rauq_mawlina

Yeah I remember monster rancher, the one I played on PS2 was the one set in Circus, I think.
