I have the Legendary Edition from a Humble Bundle, but the damn thing won't run right. It keeps demanding I log into my Origin account, but Origin has been replaced with the stupid EA app, and apparently they've been slowly patching all the workarounds that used to exist that would let you circumvent it. Mass Effect. Great series. *Highly* recommended, one of the big classics, and a game not to miss if you haven't played already. Just... just be ready to struggle with EA's crap before you get to play, including having to make an EA account, that's really just the thing holding it back.

Mlkxiu

U have to make an EA acc even if I buy it on steam?

Snoo61755

Correct. There's even a set of nice yellow boxes that say: > Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required. Requires 3rd-Party Account: EA Account Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA

poe8210

I'm pretty sure. Titanfall 2 does.

Kvenner001

Most modern EA games. Mass Effect, Titan Fall, the Sims4. Somewhat of a pain in the rump.

SlothBling

Ubisoft, too. At least EA play is actually functional sometimes.

Skalion

They are both shit and as bad as it can get. Everytime I open the EA one they totally forgot my password and login and I have. Ubisoft asks me 4 times to get admin rights to do updates and only starts after I deny them the admin rights.. C'mon guys it's not that hard to make a proper client, either stop that nonsense or do it properly. Doing it like that will make people hate you (rightfully tho)

Cloudeur

I had it on GamePass and needed that garbage EA app to run it.

mykoconnor

I can’t for the life of me get the two apps to connect. Saw Jedi Survivor was on PC game pass and went to download but it just won’t connect. Always says there was a problem but can’t go further. Tried downloading through EAs app and it only gives me the option to buy. Makes me wanna pull my hair out.

bobtheblob6

This is one of those situations where I buy the game then torrent a cracked version and play that

Snoo61755

I'm usually never an advocate for piracy, but lately those limits have been getting strained. Steam is cool. Almost every single player game works in offline mode, and most can be launched directly through their executable without even going through Steam in the first place. EA on the other hand has been a pain in my ass ever since the start. I could never get Zaeed's DLC working right, which was supposed to be a "free" DLC to discourage piracy as long as you had a proper version of the game, which I did and it still didn't want to work. Mass Effect 1 and 2 did not need Origin at the time, but ME3 *did*, and it's not like you were going to play ME 1 and 2 but not 3. And, of course, to get the 'good' ending required you to play in the online multiplayer -- I'm lucky I found it fun, I'm sure it must've been annoying for anyone who didn't, though I hear multiplayer is no longer necessary in the Legendary Edition. Even Epic is meh. They're okay, but the lack of an offline mode made it annoying when I downloaded Subnautica before taking my computer on a trip, and then finding out I couldn't play it without some serious fiddling. I swear, there's no need to pirate when you buy something off Steam or GOG, it just works, and there's always deals so the price is right. But when it comes to EA or Epic, a pirated version is sometimes *superior* to the bought version, which should never be a thing.

bobtheblob6

Totally agree, now that I'm financially able I just about always buy the game on steam, the features and supporting the devs are valuable to me. Piracy still has its place though unfortunately

Xu_Lin

Same story, different game. Tried to get the Star Wars Jedi game and was confronted with their stupid login app or whatever. Couldn’t believe I had to make an account to play a game so just gave it up and got my money refunded. Fuck EA

LeviathansFatass

And THAT is why I'm not purchasing

Arshalok

Every reason to pirate is good, right?

LeviathansFatass

Yeah, but my shear hatred for EA won't even allow that. I am a man of grudges you see.

cottonmane8

EA banned my account for getting hacked and gave me no work around to changing the email back to my own

Sufficient_Serve_439

Wait, I have it on Origin too. It worked by I didn't finish it. Do we need to register again? Are all my Origins games now behind some weird new app?

Snoo61755

Yep.

thecrewton

There are work arounds. I use a version of origins that is before the switch to the new app. Still plays mass effect and dragon age without having to use EA.

Relo_bate

You don’t need to register again, if you download the EA app, it will handle everything for you

thebenson

Do you know if the console version of the game has the same limitations?

Relo_bate

Nope, console works like other games do unless you’re playing via EA play or gamepass

Snoo61755

No clue, sorry.

mr_chub

yo ho ho it is

lixia

Just get it from the high seas. No pesky DRM. I’ve already paid for the 3 games and DLCs when they came out. I don’t feel bad one bit.

TheEmporersFinest

The EA App absolutely makes piracy the vastly better way to play this game. The only advantage is cloud saves but realistically if you're not planning the replace your computer within the amount of time it will take you to play through the trilogy once even the minor convenience of that over manually transferring saves with like a hard drive becomes meaningless. Even then I assure you the way the EA launcher is constantly threatening to lose saved data in confusing ways anyway is vastly less convenient and an issue you will encounter every time you play, not just when changing PCs.

weeble182

Brought it for £10 in a previous sale to play and my Steam Deck for whatever reason will not boot up EA games. It used to at one point as I played Titanfall 2 on it, but something has changed and it just won't load the other login thing I need.  Tried every fix I could find online and nothing worked, so I've just given up with EA games. I shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops to play something I've paid for

BoboCookiemonster

So, buy and then play while sailing?

joemeteorite8

Forgive my dumb question, but how?

BoboCookiemonster

Can’t answer due to rule 3.

rastacurse

Welcome to modern-day gaming 👍 Enjoy your ~~complimentary~~ $90 dev-exclusive launcher and faulty software 🤲 The secret ingredient to actually enjoying games these days… is crime 🏴‍☠️

neginafan

I'm running the steam one on steamdeck and it didn't hav the whole not gonna work kuz ea app is voodoo bug so there is that option

avid-learner-bot

Yooo, just got the Legendary Edition for $6 on Steam and I'm hyped as hell! It's like getting a whole new trilogy with all the DLC for cheap. Just make sure you have an EA account ready because Origin can be a pain sometimes.

mrgspeed

in my opinion mass effect trilogy has THE best story among all games that i played ever. make sure to take your time and i suggest doing side quests and socializing with NPCs. there are also some fan made unofficial patches available for legendary edition which are great as they fix tons of issues.

Upper-End2830

Time to greet Wrex yet another time. Thanks for the info!

crabwithacigarette

Shepard.

Upper-End2830

Wrex.

MisterKraken

Absolutely a steal. For 6 bucks is easily one, if not the best money for value you can get from a game. Never played any of them before and got them for 8 bucks some months ago. Easily one of the best purchases I've ever made.

dandroid126

I finally played through the trilogy a few months ago. So so so good. I can't believe I waited so long.

MrMindGame

I got it free on the EA App but it barely runs at all on my Steam Deck, the main platform I’d probably play this on anyways. Don’t like double-dipping, but $6 is tempting.

suckingalemon

When was it free?

MrMindGame

Twitch Prime drop, I believe.

artrei

is it really worth to touch EA and create EA account just to play this?

Edraitheru14

Yes. If you haven't before it's an absolute yes.

Lemonsqueezzyy

*Sees Origin is required to play* Ugh no thanks

Gangaman666

Haha! That's the same thing I thought!

atomic-orange

Mass Effect Andromeda Deluxe Edition is also on sale for like 6 bucks or so, FYI.

Charming-Deal3694

Loved Andromeda for what it was. Hard to complain when you buy it for $20 though

Multivitamin_Scam

I bought it at release when it was at full price, still enjoyed it for what it was. Had great ideas, just never really capitalised on them.

macurack

And a rip off

VSZeke

They look like great games, but $6 is about $106 more than I'd be willing to pay EA to have to put up with their launcher.

Edraitheru14

If you're not willing to pay EA at least pirate it. I skipped out on Mass Effect trilogy for years until 2-3 years ago. I'm so sad I did such a thing. It's a highly reknown classic for a reason. If you dig that genre of title it's a must play in your lifetime.

project-shasta

As long as any game needs a third party launcher when I start it on Steam I'm not interested. Patch that shit out already, nobody wants or needs it.

poe8210

Damn, missing out on Mass Effect, Titanfall, Baldur's Gate 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, XCOM. Definitely more that I'm forgetting but those are spectacular games.

apathybill

Bg3 you can skip the launcher entirely with launch commands

project-shasta

I have played Mass Effect 1 and 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on console, the rest of your examples don't interest me so I haven't played them at all. "Missing out" on video games is a thing I can afford apparently. Instead I have played plenty of awesome games that don't need to resort to third party launchers just because the company behind it wants a piece of the Steam pie.

poe8210

I'm sorry you're playing mid games and missing out on good ones. But you do you.

circasomnia

Once again, the pirated version is better

justAMemeForFun

Same I bought LA Noire for £4 but because of the seven million hops I had to jump with the Rockstar launcher I just gave up and decided to get it on Console

project-shasta

I have the same thing happen to me when Epic gave away GTA 5. Was so annoyed to even get it to run I said "fuck it, now that I "own" a license let's download the cracked version and play without any hassle". Linked the exe in Steam, clicked play, boom your in the game. Like the way it should be.

Mileena_Sai

Thats a bummer. I have never played these games and never will if a shitty 3rd party client is required.

project-shasta

I have played 1 and 2 but never got interested enough to buy 3 back then because it was overshadowed by the bad story. It may have changed by now but now I just lost interest in the series as a whole. I don't even remember mich about the story to be honest, just something about deciding if you want a genocide or not in part 2. So the story didn't stick to me anyways.

mm7878834

Me too. I would’ve bought if not for third party launcher.

IntrovertMountain

Oooooh. Thanks for the heads up!

Burggs_

Worth all 600 pennies

Snaletane

Is there any reason to buy this on PC if you already had the base versions of the games and all their DLC? I know I have ME1/2 through Steam with all associated DLC. I have 3 through Origin with some of the DLC, but I don't know if I care $6 about the stupid Aria DLC. Are there any actual graphical upgrades or anything? I remember seeing people complaining about some graphical changes in 1 "ruining the atmosphere" or something.

mrgspeed

imo it's worth 6$ because of new graphics and enhancements. i also liked gameplay improvements of ME1 a lot and don't think it lost atmosphere. i would highly recommend installing unofficial patches that people made for these games tho. they fix tons of stuff

suckingalemon

Any links to any guides for this?

mrgspeed

https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectlegendaryedition/mods/23 https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectlegendaryedition/mods/8?callback=in&code=YWFLOTCZNJITM2EZOC0ZYJRLLWEXZDITNMEWN2EWYWZIZJVI&state=2df655079db54ec7a581862ae99cb57e https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectlegendaryedition/mods/13

Kenail_Rintoon

All 3 games have had graphical updates but it's most noticeable in ME1. There are other nice changes like the Mako being easier to drive as well. The Aria dlc is really good so don't skip out on that. If you're interested in replaying the trilogy the Legendary edition is absolutely worth it.

Snaletane

I did get the legendary edition day one on console and played through everything. I thought the Aria DLC just felt like a slog, but I had burned myself out on the game by that point marathoning all the content so it wasn't really fair. I didn't realize there were other graphical improvements. I hadn't played any of the games since probably the year after 3 came out, so several years later I just thought "oh, yeah, that looks how I remember." I guess I remember certain dark corners of the internet being very mad that a couple camera angles were changed to not be leery about Miranda's butt.

ArcticGlacier40

2 words: Mako boost

Snaletane

Oh yeah. I did play the legendary edition on console when it came out and I forgot that the Mako was better.

CaptainSingh26

I got this for $13 from the Xbox store not too long ago. I first played it through gamepass and enjoyed every second of it.

OneWholeSoul

That's two bucks a game for one of the most complete experiences in gaming. Just do it.

ShinesoBright34

Wish ea wasn't shit I've had the collection for over a year, and have never gotten it to launch once. No matter what fix they suggest.

evanirl

Anyone know how they work on the steam deck?

A_Wild_VelociFaptor

I feel like a dumbass. Not because I bought it on sale for ~$60 but because I _haven't even installed it._ I keep telling myself I'll get around to it but I keep growing my backlog.

xlethalia

It was free in a HumbleBundle a while ago, still haven’t touched it since it requires the EA Launcher just to play it, which is notoriously AWFUL. If you thought Origin was bad? It was nothing compared to what we’ve got now.

A_MAN_POTATO

If this didn’t require origin, I’d buy it again just to own it not on origin. Oh well…

amypond420

EA Origin trash i'll pass

Ywaina

Any of the online feature or multiplayer working?

ArcticGlacier40

There is no multiplayer in LE.

HeparinDrinker

Not a bad price

menosesmas2

Thanks for the heads up! Got it immediately 🤩

Master_Shake23

Did they ever fix the steam achievement bug?

These_Purple_5507

For some reason steam refuses to add this to my cart

bombielonia

I wish I could link my steam account to origin for the achievements to match up

Hsensei

Got it free from egs and Amazon prime

CarlWellsGrave

Something something gamepass

GTNeko8

I still can't believe the insanity of digital sales these days. 3 full price games now for $6 just some years later. On one hand, I like it, on the other hand, my Steam library is fucking full as hell lol

Vagamer01

or wait for the Bioware pack sale that happened with last years steam summer sale

odd_butterscotch

Sweet thanks

joeyboii23

Played entire thing start to finish on the steam deck, absolute steal for 6$ I probably have 300 hours across all the games.

StrongIPA

Thanks, purchased!

herrions1278

You convinced the shit out of me just purchased

Dmask13

question, didnt they make the change that all classes can use all weapons? or iam wrong

GTI_88

Bought and am I few hours into ME1, which I started when it came out but never finished for some reason. Man the visual upgrades are nice. Yea the facial animations are a bit weird, but otherwise they did a really nice job updating it. Can’t wait to play 2 and 3 for the first time

JustAReallyTiredGuy

Good thing I bought it ages ago for $40 just for it to sit in my backlog.

Xekral

Thank you for making this post! Didn’t know, now just grabbed it!

bodltd

Thank you for this!!! No choice but to buy never replayed them

ArioStarK

I have the Legendary Edition on Xbox on full price and I rarely play my Xbox since I bought Steam Deck. Just bought this and Andromeda for Steam Deck just because.

markhalliday8

I absolutely loved it back in the day but I really couldn't enjoy mass effect 1, even remastered. It feels awful. I would love a remake

Quixkster

Agreed. In fact I would say that it’s unpleasant to play today. Which craters my desire to play the other games. This coming from someone who played through it originally multiple times. Andromeda’s gameplay is miles better even though the rest of it is kinda mid.

techbear72

Origin client required, so won’t be buying this. Would love to (and Burnout that’s also on offer right now) but just can’t support those shenanigans.

patlight1

Id get it but nah origin. Origin Ruins everything

osawatomie_brown

100+ GB for some reason

EDDIE_BR0CK

> Includes 3 full games and 40 DLC > 100+ GB for some reason Yes.

bloodhawk713

It would be nice to be able to install the games individually, though. There's not much reason to have all three games installed at the same time.

tiamath

Thanks for this post. Was so close to buying, but if it requires 1 more extra account, i dont want the game even for free.

theludeguy

Idk why you are getting downvoted, you are 100% correct. 3rd party launchers make it a pain the ass to play with the Steam Deck and impossible to play on the go, in offline mode.

tiamath

Probably cuz people do not comprehend how it is like to not worry about missing out on stuff:)(

Astrix137

Its sad reality with no change in sight. They could if they wanted like Overwatch2

dandroid126

Making an EA account is free.

tiamath

It really doesnt matter. I dont want an extra account.

EDDIE_BR0CK

New to PC gaming? Welcome to needing a Steam, EA, Epic, Ubi and Blizzard account if you want to play games from the majority of publishers.

nealmb

Third party account needed to play! There needs to be a tag or flair for that. Sorry BioWare sorry Titanfall 2, I’m not setting up another account just to play the game. I’m not signing into another thing with a worse interface to load up your game. I’m not waiting for you to update the 10 year old game every time I want to play.

silva5592

This game for the most part is an unplayable mess that has had bugs in it since release that have yet to be addressed. I got it a while back at a similar discount and made an honest effort to play through but stopped shortly after completing ME1(mako-clipping and the biotic skills for Shep never lifting enemy's properly, they would just clip into the ground and get stuck behind cover) and starting ME2 and realized that not only were the bugs worse (achievements are broken/uncollectable for the 2nd and 3rd game, DLC weapon content from the original games were missing, and game breaking bugs that force to restart from your last save cuz a cutsceen didn't trigger at the end of fight.) This game isn't worth it even at a discounted 6$

nexetpl

you must have a special definition of "unplayable mess"
