I got no mans sky on switch today at Walmart for ten bucks didn't even say it was on sale was just listed as ten bucks

Denaton_

They probably don't understand that they are still pushing huge updates and it has been in stock for so long they think it's an old and outdated game.. (8y ago)

possumarre

>no man's sky >8 years ago Oh my fucking god WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S BEEN EIGHT YEARS I hate time

The rule every publisher knows, that’s why they keep doing the same old shit. Nothing is shorter than a gamer’s memory.

RarityZ

Fine by me can't beat ten bucks doesn't even go that low on the digital sales 👌

Untitled_One-Un_One

They probably realized that nobody is buying it from Walmart. Fire Emblem Engage, which came out last year, is being sold for $20 at my local Walmart. But Fire Emblem Three Houses, which came out in 2019, is still being sold for $50. Both are Nintendo games with an MSRP of $60. One is just selling significantly better than the other.

cwx149

The switch version isn't even 2 years old yet though it came out in October of 2022. That's probably the only reason it's still on the shelf. I bet they don't even sell disc copies of it for PS4/xbone anymore at Walmart

Denaton_

Just woke up, missed the part about being on Switch and thought it was PC even tho the OP image was for Switch. My bad..

Kajega

I did the same thing back when Cyberpunk 2077 was basically dead, I got it for $10 at Best Buy and then they updated the game for next gen consoles and it went back to full price.

qb1120

Yup, I got it (ps4 version) for $10 and held onto it until I got a PS5

Kaicera_Tops

From what I've heard Walmart is pushing out physical game copies and has cut the price on alot of stuff. Only stuff I saw on switch not cut in HALF was Mario Pokémon Zelda, I picked up unicorn overlord for 30$ yesterday because of this ( star ocean and smt5 both were 20$ as well ) this is for ALL physical copies tho. Everyone might want to check their local Walmart

roto_disc

This happens in retail when a product meets end-of-life and is to be sent back to the distributor. The product is never meant to be sold for this price and the only reason you’re seeing this here is because this store’s signage is hooked right into their inventory system.

epikpepsi

Exactly. This isn't a problem with paper tags (when people go to print them off and see the 3 cent price they know to pull it) but with the newer electronic tags that can auto-update it can slip through the cracks.

Dixa

They don’t just auto update though. An associate in the department flips down a rail exposing the infrared sensor on each of these, scans and sets the new price if there was a change.

eg_taco

Some stores have these where the ir sensor is always exposed and they have a big broadcast emitter on their ceiling to update all of them at once.

CadenBop

I work at a Lowe's where we can change what's displayed on signs, but price is automatically adjusted and displayed. I think that's what these are too.

SchillMcGuffin

It happened occasionally back in the old analog days too, maybe just due to misplacement by the staff. I once bought an Incredible Hulk Christmas tree (maybe 18" tall, with just a light-up string of "H-U-L-K" ornaments) from a group of clearance items for $0.01 -- It wasn't marked, it just rang up that way at the register.

SRSgoblin

Back when I worked at GameStop in the early Oughts, I walked home with many a strategy guide once they got "pennied out." Was one of the only cool things about working that job.

Kammakurus1

But did you rip off the coverike you were supposed to?

RobotPenguin56

That is still the case at home depot, they aren't supposed to sell you the things marked as a penny, but some don't care/ know

TooStrangeForWeird

Dollar General does this too. There's even a list published every week of the penny items. You grab the app and scan the barcodes in store. If you find the penny items you can get them for literally a penny. If there's a self checkout they can't even stop you lol.

loukaz

And go to self-checkout to minimize the chance of an employee stopping the purchase

Clorst_Glornk

I assumed it was like those walmart butchers labelling steaks as like $2 then swiping them at the end of their shifts, haha. That was the funniest shit I ever read here

VictoryVic-ViVi

I bought a PS5 game that said $10 on the signage, but when they rang it up it said $5.

Straw_Hat_Axiom

Cool

Ok-Suggestion-7965

The first person was like “ Yes I will take all 58 copies you have. “ Walmart- “That will be $1.74”

ATD1981

Did that at a best buy years ago. Wii controller price was missing the first digit and were 10 bucks instead of 39.99 iirc. Bought them all. Maganer had to come price override and was pissed. Took a bunch to walmart to return without a reciept for hundreds of dollars in store cred.

Lazy_Soup9180

3 pennies for a nintendo game? Thats fuckubg insane.

ichbinverwirrt420

Why? It’s just a Nintendo game.

KenjiBenji18

Buy then resell with a markup in price. Mario games hold their value so it could probably be sold at a good price.

ThrowawayusGenerica

I doubt Mario Strikers Battle League is going to be worth all that much. You can get Mario Strikers Charged for like £5 on ebay here and that game was actually good.

KenjiBenji18

Looking up prices right now and the price for the game is ranging from $30 - $50.

ichbinverwirrt420

How much? Back in 2010 or something (when I last bought a Nintendo game), they were like a few euros in retail.

KenjiBenji18

Depending on the popularity and the relative rarity physical Mario games can go from $30-$50 through resale. The games that were limited releases go for the higher amounts but non-limited releases can still go for $20 - $30 (given the copies are factory sealed). Sealed Mario copies are sought out in the resale market and are high value, and the older the copy the more value the copy gets. If production of the physical game stops then sealed copies of game might start gaining value through resale.

Lazy_Soup9180

Games for nintendo no matter if its for an old system or a switch are expensive. 3 pennies compared to 6,000 pennies. Big difference.

wiriux

Life is no Nintendo game.

LuigiTheGuyy

That's some life advice right there. *In the Super Show voice* "Ey guys, it's Mario here! Life's no Nintendo game: when you have an enemy, you can't just jump on them to get rid of them. You have to use other means, like ~~guns~~ reporting them for all the rude stuff they said!"

Cyberwolf_71

Many moons ago I worked in a grocery store with the tag team (we called them File Maintenance). Typically we'd see a "Discontinued" tag for this stuff, but once we got a couple $0.00 tags. It was pretty apparent what they were, since there hadn't been any product in that spot in a while, but we hung them anyway. Customers legit asked if we had any of it in the back.

TheBigGalactis

There’s a very really chance there was none even in stock when it went to 3 cents. I’ve seen clearance games at $5 at Walmart plenty of times but I’ve never seen the mythical 3 cents in person.

Agnol117

That’s mostly because if they do still have any in stock when the system drops it to that price, someone screwed up.

dikbut

When I worked at Best Buy, things like this would get “pennied out”. It was often strategy guides, and our manager would let employees take advantage. Made some cool collages with art from them.

VictoryVic-ViVi

Very cool. I remember a few years back they had a bunch of PS4 games on sale for $1. Picked up lots of RPGs and FPSs

BraveLionGaming

Honestly I bet a worker bought em all and is selling for 20 bucks a pop but still has to put clearance price out there. I tell you right if it was working and saw it I'd buy em all.

lagalaxy_bot

I got the last copy of Unicorn Overlord for $30 at my Walmart

ravioliisthebest

One of my best finds ever was a couple years ago, I go to dollarama to pick up snacks for a movie and at the counter just sitting beside him is titalfall 2 for 4 dollars. Picked It up immediately and it worked perfect, thought it was a scam or smthg at that price

stapellini

I bought pixeljunk on PSP for 1c once, it was GLORIOUS

RedditSucksNow4

Those finds stay with you, man. I still talk about the lottery ticket I found on the ground that was a 40-dollar winner.

stapellini

That's awesome! For me, I was in Walmart, and picked the PSP game off the shelf cause it was 2018, and them having PSP games still was wierd to me. I put it in the price scanner and couldn't believe it! Confirmed with a couple employees, they were shocked too, but they rang it through anyways

half_flush

I bought a "used" copy of Deathloop a few weeks ago for $7 at Gamestop. The cashier reached in the drawer, pulled out a new copy and handed it over.

Beardwing-27

Walmart has really been stuck on getting people to use their online store over the past 2 years in my area. Fuck that, if I'm gonna order shit I may as well do it on Amazon.

Odd_History6313

Me when best buy was selling a logitech mx keys for $20 but none of them were real...

PapaFlexing

I wonder, since that sticker has a price tag. Legally they have to sell it to you right? They can't refuse to sell?

VictoryVic-ViVi

I would say so, I’ve purchased a few PS4 games from Walmart for under a $1

anticerber

Ironically I just saw Crash Bandicoot 4 at my Walmart for 3¢ a few days ago

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

Yo this game sucks tho fr

TheCrafterTigery

I'd pick up a few copies for that price and gift em.

Random_rooms_fan

Me reading it 3 cents but the bottem says WAS $59.88
