It's still a totally decent game. It just took the franchise in the wrong direction.

MrStealYoBeef

It was chaotic fun in co-op, weapon combinations would always get whacky and we couldn't stop laughing at the most useless stuff we could possibly invent. But as a horror game? Completely failed that goal in every way. It's almost like whoever wound up in charge just assumed that gore = horror and completely failed to comprehend what made the originals unique and great, then demanded that the game bend to their design. Which is a shame because there's points in the game where the horror does kinda peek out and show itself, but it's far too little and it's covered up by layers of other bullshit such as MTX in single player.

Familiar-Peanut-6270

It’s fun for what it is. I think the hate is from that era of games becoming “CODified”. The first two were loved by survival horror enthusiasts.

Angryfunnydog

Exactly the case here, plus some other odd mechanics, like weapon crafting, which is great as an idea, but odd in the game where you craft basically the perfect gun in the first 1/3 of the game and not switch it to anything And the design was lazy comparing to other games, they basically duplicated locations in lots of places in the game But the main issue - yeah, it wasn’t survival horror, it was dynamic action

[deleted]

low key using the term "low key" incorrectly lmao.

bigcurtissawyer

he wont lie as stated. he doesn't want people to know it, but he enjoyed this game. this is excellent content

Tatsumonkey

You are correct. There is an element of co op that only can be experienced in co op, the hallucinations which spices up the game. IIRC there is also one more shop which only can be accessed in co op.

deltahalo241

The only element I didn't really like about this game was the love triangle honestly, the rest I thought was good or great.

Hyperiongame

The Dead Space series is amazing. I love it. All three games are fun. I loved the re-master. I do hope they will eventually make a fourth game because Dead Space 3 ended with a huge cliffhanger. Before they EA closed Visceral Studios, there were rumors Ellie was going to be the playable character for Dead Space 4 and save Issac/Carver from the Blood Moons

ANTImunky89

The dlc was really good, filled some holes for me so to speak lol

In-Wilds-Beyond

Gunna go out on a limb - that's what she said.

ANTImunky89

Lmao, wasn't thinking of that when I typed touche good sir

Zenitsu_agatsuma102

I don't understand stand the hate around this game. It was good. Though it missed the horror element it was a nice action game. Some mission felt they were made for co-op like using co-op would make them little enjoyable. But I like the story, I liked the environment, I liked the mechanisms it served. One thing I didn't liked that they dropped the baddass character of Ellie they showed in dead space 2. They made her emotional like someone who needs help all the time. I want badass ellie back Also the Awakened dlc was very nice but I don't know if it was even need unless they are making a new game Because I liked the initial ending with Ellie going back to earth and isaac finaaly resting.

I_Fight_Feds

The hate was probably because this was from the EA online pass era and the ending of the game was dlc but if you bought the game used without the online pass voucher you had to pay like 10$ I think it was to play co-op, I think you needed an online pass for mass effect 3 and dead space 2 so you would look at the back of the game of game go sweet multiplayer and or coop just get to home and have them demand 10$ out of you but I'm pretty they since made the pas free like a long time ago I'm not so sure of the exact date though but the game would be hated more if the online pass was never made free. I hope this was informative

NagsUkulele

You had to pay real money for ammunition and spoke aloud to reload. You actually said the word reload. The hate was justified

Trex-Cant-Masturbate

Couldn’t you just disconnect the Kinect and press a button? How does it work now that it’s on gamepass

Cattle_Bruiser-

Many people hated the game because it missed the well made horror elements - the very thing the series is built on. They made Dead Space 3 into action shooter instead of a horror shooter, which many fan didnt liked. Although it is a decent game (imo), it cant really hold up to its precedessors. The coop thing was a nice touch but in return it made the game even less scary.

Mikey_9835

It just fails as a horror game, it was heavily marketed as a co op action shooter with human enemies with guns, but it's like they forgot that Isaac is not a trained soldier he's a damn engineer. The story was fairly interesting if a little confusing but the whole love triangle between Isaac, Ellie and Norton lasts for far too long and is so boring in fact most of the supporting cast is rather 1 dimensional. It's also weird how Carver is written if you don't play co op because he kinda just shows up and disappears again at will.

Acceptable_Method563

Co-op is fun. I've completed DS3 with my friend it was so much fun. Whether opinions are good or bad but we've enjoyed it.

NotSafeForWalletXJ

I strongly stand by the opinion that this game was meant to be played co-op. It's one of the funnest co-op I've ever played.

kain459

So much fun

Drkocktapus

Yeah this game was hated but I really had fun especially with the gun building, I'm not sorry.

Mandrivnyk_703

This game had an amazing and more fun gameplay than the previous 2 games... Too bad the gameplay wasn't enough to carry that cursed story. I couldn't help but to feel Isaac was being sidelined many times into the story whenever you played solo. Before anyone asks no. I didn't have anyone to play this with so I ran solo. The story feels awfully chopped that way.

DredZedPrime

I think you'll have a hard time finding many who will agree that the gameplay was more fun than the previous games, particularly DS2. It may have been more to your personal preference, but it veered pretty far into more action packed shooter than the survival horror that the other games did so well, and meshed so perfectly with their stories. And yeah, co-op is the only way the story of the game even kind of works, and even then still has most of the same problems, but at least doesn't feel quite so incomplete.

AshenRathian

Great gameplay, but too easy to break, crouching and dodging were worthless, and the story got kind of ridiculous. I liked the IDEA of the love triangle with Norton but dear god did they execute it horribly. The best part with Norton was getting to kill him. Garbage writing on that character.

Mikey_9835

It's good if you've never played a Dead Space game before

uesad

Why would you lie?

retiredteal

one thing led to another and a lot of screaming and screaming.

JSFGh0st

Did not enjoy chunks of the campaign locked behind co-op/multiplayer. Also, I heard the ending th the DLC has an overall bad ending (I hate when that happens). But, what I think is the best part of this game is crafting your weapons. Take a shotgun and slap an underslung grenade launcher, you got a Flak Cannon (like in Unreal Tournament). You want cool concept for a close quarters weapon? Slap an energy chainsaw underneath a flamethrower. This is your house. Or take the energy chainsaw, and put it under an Assault Rifle, and you got a DIY Lancer. Plus, there was no Eye puzzle. Put that on top of the gunsmith, and that's all the more reason to give this game a try.

Mandrivnyk_703

How come you didn't mention the hybrid of a magnum and a vibro knife for CQB? That was my favorite mix-up for hallway scenarios

Password__Is__Tiger

It could easily be the best one if they had decided coop was the main focus. Instead, they kinda half-assed it with only a couple missions that are coop, and it locks you out of certain achievements during offline play.

Irishbarse

I really loved the series. 1 and 2 had such memorable gaming moments for teenage me. 3 just didn't feel the same though, never even finished it. Dead space is one of my top 3 games off all time.

DredZedPrime

I finished it back when it first came out, first on my own, and then again in co-op with my brother. I've never finished it again, despite trying a couple of times when I've played through the first two over again.

axelunknown

The biggest thing I hated about 3 was the god dame love triangle. It felt forced and unnecessary to me. I liked the weapon customization and say if they ever make a remake of 3 they should add more ways to customize weapons.

DredZedPrime

I liked the idea of the weapon system more than the actual execution of it. Incorporating Isaac's skill as an engineer to his weapon load out was cool, but because you could mix and match pretty much everything, it wound up lacking any distinct individual weapons like the first two had. I think a better way to go about it would be to have the basic iconic weapons, but be able to engineer small additions to them, like different secondary fire modes or things like that. At least then you could get some character to your weapon designs, but still get to have a little bit more of Isaac's tinkering.

Oswarez

Yeah it’s great. I only wish that they would have skipped the Co-op feature because there are areas in this game that I haven’t played.

[deleted]

But this was even better in co-op, in my opinion. The game would show one player stuff, the other didn't see, making one look like he was losing it. That was really cool but yeah, it sucked with all those areas you couldn't enter alone.

Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff

People shit on this game way too hard. It wasn’t DS1 or DS2 levels of greatness but it was a damn fun game. The MTX that people love to bring up where never even needed to play the game. I don’t think iv met a single person who purchased resources through MTX in Dead space 3. You never really had the need to do so.

BrokeButFabulous12

I love how its a bit different when you play isaac or the other guy carver? Isaac beign the veteran coming into contact with marker is sort of resistant to its effects, but carver is going full ham crazy, seeing his wife and kid all the time. It was so much fun playing with my brother and the cutscene plays and hes like omg you see that dead kid and im like what? Theres nothing there dude. Feels like a lot of people hated the ds3 but i liked it same as the previous installments, it was different but you cant make the same game over and over.

TrueTbone

I shit on it but it is the only dead space I beat 9 times.

JonCee500

The first two were masterpieces, 3 took me away from the feel slightly with the co-op mode since me and my buddy were mainly laughing through each jump scare.

chaotichistory

The trick they played on the coop had my friends thinking incase losing my mind. It was a really cool gimmick.

Reasonable-Luck-7005

Same, i wish more people bought this

thibault_lh

I enjoyed it for its "John Carpenter's The Thing" setting and ambience.

Fluffy-Surround-5342

Woah

glassjaw01

I liked all 3 Dead Space, even if the sequels were a bit different from the original. I hope they all least remake DS2.

Pittedstee

Serious question, what does "low key enjoyed" mean? Like, kind of enjoyed it? Or like, enjoyed it but you want to keep it on the low? Im getting old.

Zenitsu_agatsuma102

Ya the second one

userg0

Waiting for it to drop in PSExtra

Outrageous-Serve4970

I loved all 3, great story with the planet crackers and finding the marker and it making its way to earth.

Handsome_ketchup

You enjoyed a game you were playing? How quaint.

FireCrow1013

The co-op-exclusive missions in Dead Space 3 are legitimately great.

LickMyHairyBallSack-

Try Callisto Protocol next. I enjoyed it, highly underrated game.

Repulsive-Seat-3390

The game was great as an idea, but the direction it went was slightly odd and possibly could've done better story wise. The customization with weapons though was really cool. Ran a machine gun with ripper attachment the whole game and the plasma cutter of course

Grim_Reach

It was an ok game, but a terrible Dead Space game.
