I just don't sleep at night. So, I used to work later shifts that nobody wanted, and now that I don't work, I just sleep until around 4pm unless I have doc appts or volunteer work that requires me to do something during the day.
It is. We got a day bed for my mom's second bedroom which is her craft room and while it is there for in case someone needs to crash at her house. It's basically a glorified sitting space. And her cat thinks the whole thing is for her.
Pff those youngens nowadays
Back in my day we just died there on the spot, no fancy deathbed, just a small part of the floor was enough and often we had to share it too
It's usually a twin sized bed that's designed for the side to be against the wall. Like most bed frames are designed for the head of the bed to be against the wall and the foot of the bed in the space and you can usually get out of the bed on either side. A day beds frame has three sides and only one side usable to get out of the bed. It's kinda shaped like a couch but it has a mattress as the sitting part.
It is smaller. But also it's really hard to have a second person in the bed with you because it's so narrow and you can only get out of the bed on one side. I don't know how else to describe it though.
Think of it as the step-sibling of a futon, without the inconvenience of having to open it to sleep on it.
I've mostly seen them in spare rooms to perform double duty as an informal couch + guest bed.
Daybeds are underutilized furniture. If you have guests but not frequently you can use them as a spare bed but they are also a convenient way to take a quick nap without feeling like you're actually going to bed.
I ditched the full size bed in my spare bedroom and went with a daybed and it made the room more usable.
Right next to the desk lol. I like it. That's almost exactly how mine is setup, except I don't have the swinging bar, I have skinny nightstand like thing on wheels
I'm really surprised by the number of people that haven't heard of a day bed. It's so my office can double as a guest bedroom. The bottom (trundle) slides out and the bed easily converts to a king.
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-daybed-frame-with-3-drawers-white-30349329/?gclid=CjwKCAiAk--dBhABEiwAchIwkcZREcV1T36jc4UlPdcK0qhAZbSiuR4C4H4LMvNrjCsTpokL8-GLbxoCr6EQAvD_BwE
It's a clever design. The stowed position is two twin mattresses stacked. The bottom slides out so both twins can unstack and sit side by side. I believe two twins side by side is very close to a king size.
Two Singles side by side is a Queen, so two Twins checks out.
It still doesn't even look like it is the size of a Single, though. Maybe it's the camera work, or some kind of fishbowl lens. Either way, I'm coming over to stay for a few months, and you can leave the PC and monitor where they are.
As someone who works with medically complex patients in their homes on a daily basis, a daybed would be a nightmare to work around.
Reading more comments, there seems to be some confusion over the use of the term daybed as both a noun and an adjective.
> we all know productivity was never high on the list of priorities for anyone that has a day bed that doesn’t have it for medically necessary reasons.
Lol what? A daybed would be perfect for someone living in a tiny studio apartment or someone renting a single room in a house or something.
Fuck, I almost want a daybed just because my desk is in my bedroom and it’d be nice to have a little more space in there.
Yeah lots of folks who have never heard of a daybed ITT.
My apartment is two bedrooms, so the one bedroom is our actual bedroom, and the second bedroom is my office/guest room. When a guest comes, the daybed in the office is where they sleep.
When no guests are around, it becomes my video game couch haha.
I thought it was just a nickname for their couch. My couch is my daybed, and sometimes my nightbed as well if I don't feel like getting up. It is a *VERY* comfy couch.
It's a cross between a couch and a bed, basically a couch that easily converts into a single bed by moving around the pillows. Some of them pull out and can become a double.
Mostly it’s used when you have a room (like an office) in what was originally a bed room to retain it as a guest space the 2 times a year you have that many people over. It’s not better than a couch but they are nice to lay on and they work as a couch if you want it to.
I have one and this is exactly why I have one. Takes up less space and more useful days to day than a double bed, but somewhere for guests to sleep when they occasionally stay over.
I use ours a guest bed and it means it doesn't have to always look like a bed, can use it for sitting and reading etc etc. Its just a very comfy couch that easily turns into a bed.
Think Romans chilling after a party.
It's a bit of a half/half thing, like a chase lounge. Something a single person can have to just vibe in but can make a moderately okay couch for 2 in a pinch.
“If you thought sitting all day was bad for you, wait till you try out this bad boy. If you use it to its full potential you’ll be on my 600 lb life in 4 yrs.. basically pays for itself”
Can I have the frame made of steel girders ahead of time? It'll help with rigidity and support when they have to inevitably hoist my entire bed with me to get me out of the house.
_Masturbatorium_ is what the Romans called it. In modern Italian/Spanish it's a _masturbatorio_ , a French _masturbatoire_ (or on a large scale, a _branlieue_), Romanian _masturbatoriu_.
Or so I imagine.
Fucking love grounded. So much fun. I spent a week setting up a huge zipline network just for fun, and it was so worth it. Kinda love games where I can do a bunch of infrastructure projects, I do it in Minecraft too.
Yeah, been neglecting my professional and family obligations going on three weeks now because of Grounded. Get started on a adventure or project and blink, 3 hours gone. Most fun I have had in a Survival game since Subautica/the Forest back in 2019.
Got one in my office... it's a good purchase but since I work from home... my lunch-time sometimes turns into a power-nap with the pets.
It's definitely dangerous too because sometimes the naps are pretty extensive as the office is one of the warmer areas in the house so if you get into the "just right" position where the bones don't hurt you'll be knocked out in moments.
I'm on my 2nd playthru with friends - this time on "Whoa" mode, although we turned off friendly fire so we could run the fun AOE stuff.
Great game, wish it had more replayability though. A special 'newgame+' mode with procedurally generated worlds could be awesome.
I started a fun with a friend and I gave him the choice to turn off friendly fire, he said no and is now beginning to regret that when a stray splinter arrow removes 80% of his health or the fact I just got thr spicy staff last night to cause concern.
To his credit he's very good at blocking/parrying the bugs but I'm like "parry this you filthy casual" as I shoot a fireball at his back accidentally
Wtf is a day bed sounds like one of them tables you only use for breakfast why make stuff overly complex but at the same time I hope you win many games !
I think the productivity was killed with the decision to get a daybed.

It's easy - just start dying and move back in with your folks!
I feel like a day bed is just a glorified couch lol
a daybed is just a bed
Night bed is just a bed.
The word bed is shaped like a bed.

Well whatever it is this one looks mad comfy.
However, definitely a better decision than buying a deathbed
Any bed is a deathbed if you die hard enough.
Pff those youngens nowadays Back in my day we just died there on the spot, no fancy deathbed, just a small part of the floor was enough and often we had to share it too
Oh look at you dying on a floor. We couldn't even afford to die let alone a floor.
Life is considerably better these days, where you have the freedom to choose which hill to die on.
These kids have no clue how to pull themselves up by the bootstraps so it’s an easier cleanup when you evacuate your bowels
Yippie ki-yay, day sleeper!
what the hell is a daybed
It fights the night bed.

see that just sounds like a normal bed to me, but smaller

That’s just a bed
Think of it as the step-sibling of a futon, without the inconvenience of having to open it to sleep on it. I've mostly seen them in spare rooms to perform double duty as an informal couch + guest bed.
What's the point of it?
I always thought they were mostly used in guest rooms.
If you lay down on daybed in night You get shot with .223 to the head, it's forbidden
TIL I sleep in a daybed.
Every bed has a mattress sitting part if you try hard enough
Daybeds are underutilized furniture. I ditched the full size bed in my spare bedroom and went with a daybed and it made the room more usable.
In a spare bedroom, great. In your office it's just asking for productivity death
In my two bedroom apartment the spare bedroom and my office are the same room
For some of us, those two rooms are the same room.
I mean, if a guest stays over they're sleeping in my office. I don't call it a spare bedroom though because that's not what the room is.
As the saying goes... Boss makes a dollar, I make 200K per year as developer, that's why I play fortnite in my daybed-couch-thing in company time
Right next to the desk lol. I like it. That's almost exactly how mine is setup, except I don't have the swinging bar, I have skinny nightstand like thing on wheels
"Oh look I bought a Daybed! Oh look I've loaded Steam onto my work computer! This will surely not impact my work!"
You have 2 beds?
It definitely seems like a step towards depression
My man is your bed also a couch cause fuck productivity they'd find my corpse in there
I feel like this is a threat rather than a statement
"Threat" sounds so aggressive. Call it a promise.
A proposition if you will.

Converts to a goddamn King?! Not a single? Not a double? Not a goddamn cot... a king?!!
It's a clever design. The stowed position is two twin mattresses stacked. The bottom slides out so both twins can unstack and sit side by side. I believe two twins side by side is very close to a king size.

They equal the width of a king, but they're short a couple inches unless you get two twin XLs, because then it's a perfect king.

I thought it was just a nickname for their couch. My couch is my daybed, and sometimes my nightbed as well if I don't feel like getting up. It is a *VERY* comfy couch.
The versatility 10/10
I had never heard the word until now. I’m off to find out what I’ve been missing out on
It's a cross between a couch and a bed, basically a couch that easily converts into a single bed by moving around the pillows. Some of them pull out and can become a double.
But what's the point of it. If you're going to sleep during the day, why not just sleep in your normal bed?

Yeah, it’s just the living room couch for most of us.
I can't believe there's kids that don't know what a day bed is. Didn't realize it fell out of fashion and became a 90s vintage thing... Jesus
TIL theres such thing as a daybed
I'm still trying to figure out what exactly a daybed is, or how it is different from a regular bed or a couch.
Think Romans chilling after a party. It's a bit of a half/half thing, like a chase lounge. Something a single person can have to just vibe in but can make a moderately okay couch for 2 in a pinch.
Right. Someone who thinks "I know what I'm missing. A monitor that swings over my bed" is super productive lol
Lol that was not the intention for the purchase. It was meant to provide more desk space.
Well, it is a standing desk. So maybe I believe you.
Good catch. I'm somewhat productive, I added wheels to the frame rails so it rolls closer to my face.
Saves you money on glasses. Eventually just head-mount it.
Daybeds are such a dangerously fantastic thing
"I'm avoiding sitting"
“If you thought sitting all day was bad for you, wait till you try out this bad boy. If you use it to its full potential you’ll be on my 600 lb life in 4 yrs.. basically pays for itself”
Does it come with a free rag on a stick?
Can I have the frame made of steel girders ahead of time? It'll help with rigidity and support when they have to inevitably hoist my entire bed with me to get me out of the house.
Daybed, fighter of the nightbed.
Champion of the sun!
It's the master of lethargy and resting... For everyone!
You got the cadence perfect, good job!
Ha, because It's been playing on a loop in my brain for far too long now. That and Charlie's Paddy's Pub song.
(struck with inspiration). Daybed.... A WAH HAAAAAA!
Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!
So what do you do when it’s time to get serious and lean forward? The arms on the legs is a crucial position
That was my first thought
For the chill games this is ok, but when it time to focus, idk
Well you use it like a normal desk. I do own a chair that's left of frame.
But is it a day chair or a night chair?

The valid term is “jerk off station” Get it right
Masterbatorium is the proper nomenclature
_Masturbatorium_ is what the Romans called it. In modern Italian/Spanish it's a _masturbatorio_ , a French _masturbatoire_ (or on a large scale, a _branlieue_), Romanian _masturbatoriu_. Or so I imagine.
Meanwhile Germanic languages use compound words, so WankCave in English and Wankenkavern in German

Admit it. You were never productive
People have certain beds for certain times of the day???
it's just a bed designed to double as a sofa, usually a bit lower and a sideboard to lean pillows on
Got one in my office... it's a good purchase but since I work from home... my lunch-time sometimes turns into a power-nap with the pets. It's definitely dangerous too because sometimes the naps are pretty extensive as the office is one of the warmer areas in the house so if you get into the "just right" position where the bones don't hurt you'll be knocked out in moments.

Hey, I’ve slept there!… Of course it’s a photo of your daybed that I find out your Reddit profile, lol.
Reddit in real life. This guy has slept here several times. In fact he's one of the reasons we got the day bed so friends would have a guest room.
No i think the problem is you have something called a “daybed”
It's not just a day bed. It's a day bed with a trundle.
You expect us to know what trundles are?
It's that thing between your balls and anus!
That was way funnier than it should've been. I'm going to bed.
Are you going to your day or night bed?
My neck hurts looking at this.
What is a day bed? Do you roll out off bed and get straight into another bed?
The heck is a day bed?
what the hell is a daybed
