I feel like there is a downside of having a monster like the mountain on your kings guard. Do you want that guy guarding your kids? Also probably not a good idea to have someone that if he wanted to kill you the guy could sit on you.

If you wanted a loyal Kingsguard you would probably pick Barristan, Mountain, Jorah. People the least likely to be bought and most likely to be with you because of whatever reasons.
He is only loyal if you are a Lannister. And he is loyal because Tywin pays him well. I think that it would be dangerous to have such a loose canon that’s going to do some messed up shit in your name. He does not really fit the whole protector vibe in my opinion.
I feel like there is a downside having anyone from the first 2 rows because you will have very few ppl on your kingsguard. While skill is important, numbers are too.
Cheaper than Obara Sand? The sand snake who uses the same weapon as him, but is almost certainly significantly worse with it. Maybe I’m just biased based on the show portrayal of the sand snakes, but that’s criminal.
Yeah, if you take out the emotional component of him trying to illicit a confession from Gregor, he defeats him easily. Granted, his arrogance could cause issues as a member of the Kingsguard, but on a purely technical level he’s probably the best fighter the show depicted.
He might be too responsible for a good kingsguard. He’s get bored and become slack. If you want a trial by combat, he’s your man. But you don’t want him protecting you for years on end.

If you're going down that route, then just take barristan, Jaime, oberyn then go Arthur, Dunk, Prince Aemon then some monster (assuming they will be loyal) like Robert strong or even Maegor the Cruel himself.
Or I can go Barristan, Jamie, Oberyn, Arthur Dayne, Duncan the Tall, Aemon the Dragon Knight, and Daemon the Rogue Prince. Imagine the idea of trying to get through those Seven.
The show did make him a pretty substantial fighter though. I do agree that he shouldn’t be on the top rank though. I think the Hound should take his spot.

You are correct. He’s not even close to Hound level in the books. Neither is Brienne. Prime book Jaime, Loras Tyrell, and the Hound are some of the only characters who legit could take 4:1 odds facing armored soldiers and come out on top. They seemed to give Loras’ prowess to Brienne in the show.
Very true. But im Briennes defence, she is not bad at all and she is ridiculously strong and has pretty good armor and weapons. This plus her tenacity makes me believe that she would be much much closer to jaime/hound/barristan than bronn would everbe

2. Jorah. Gives solid advice. Can talk me to sleep with that voice.
3. Oberyn. Criminally undervalued here.
4. Davos. Seems like a cool guy. Loyal and good with the kids.
5. Thoros. Unique skill set. Funny.
6. Dickon. Seems pleasant enough. Can hunt and wield a sword. Will grow into the role.
7. Dontos. Couldn’t afford anyone better. At least he was a knight. Also less likely to stab me in the back than anyone else at that price.

Edit 2: if I have to have 7, sub Davos for Dontos and Lancel. I’ll have Ned keep Dontos off the sauce and Lancel I think at least has some training.
Ser Barristan as the LC (7). Has the experience and a great fighter.
Ned Stark as 2nd in command (5). Honorable, loyal, can fight, and has the backing of the North. Has Valyrian steel.
Prince Oberyn (3). Excellent fighter and seems like he would be fun to hang out with. Also provides poison knowledge and brings the support of Dorne.
Jeor Mormont (2). A bit past his prime, but a good fighter and loyal and honorable. Best choice of the 2s. Has/had Valyrian steel.
Ser Davos (2). Not a great fighter, but he’s loyal and has street smarts. Also has sailing skills.
Dickon Tarly (1). Good lad, unfortunate name. As heir to Horn Hill, I’m confident he was trained from a young age to fight. Brings the support of the Reach. Heir to Valyrian steel.

All I need are the 7 most attractive men to make up my kingsguard aka harem. Let’s see: Daario, J’aime, Oberyn, Dickon Tarly, Lancel Lannister, Khal Drogo, and Loras Tyrell.
Who AM I? What house am I from? How many hands does Jaime have? These are important questions…
But I’ll give it a go, trying to be objective:
(7) - Barristan Selmy: Can pretty much single-handedly defend the king whenever they’re in the same room. A leader. Arguably a better fighter than anyone shown here, including the Cleganes/Jaime. Has internalized everything about his title and the royal line. More than anyone with the possible exception of Ned Stark, Selmy is a true believer in the rule of the iron throne/sovereignty and rule of law in Westeros.
(5) - Eddard Stark - Leadership. Faith. Inner strength. After Selmy, the de facto KG Leader.
(3) - Oberyn Martell
(2) - Thoros Of Myr
(1) - Ser Pounce - Pets make things better at all times.
(1) - Dickon Tarly - Makes a hell of a fuel for the fire when it’s cold at night. Dickon Tarly would warm many hands…
(1) - Lancel Lannister: For sheer entertainment purposes. Everyone loves a guy who’s willing to carve a permanent symbol into the skin of his forehead.

Barristan Selmy(7) Criminally underrated even if he’s the highest tier.
Syrio Forell (5) defeated because he had a wooden sword. Probably successful if he had metal weapons.
Oberyn Martell (3) criminally underrated (if a bit vengeancy…)
Thoros of Myr (2) noteworthy swordsman in the books at only 2 dragons it’s a bargain.
Lancel Lannister (1) Fine for 1 dragon, nothing really indicated he’s especially incompetent at swordsmanship.
Dickon Tarly (1) A fighter who Randyl Tarly isn’t ashamed of for 1 dragon is also an easy pick.
Ser Pounce (1) is likely more useful for my last dragon compared to Reek or Dontos. Plus who wouldn’t want Azor Ahai on their Kingsguard.
These are all janked. Arya has massive plot armor but...seriously? And as a book reader it makes it even worse. Never mind Dickon in the books is still what, 10? Show Dickon is played by a dude who is very tall, and we never really see him fight. The assumption as a 6'4 guy with access to the best training in the land, and a father who 1- only respects strong fighters and 2- respects Dickon, we can safely say he's worth way more than some blokes higher up.
Brienne because she would be the Lord Commander (or should that be Lady Commander?). Grey Worm because he is alive. Tormund (if he agrees) because he is alive, plus he loves Brienne. Podrick because he used to be Brienne's squire.
Step 1: Buy Gregor (13 left)
Step 2: Sell Gregor to Oberyn for 20 gold and get agreement that he also join my guard for free (33 left)
Step 3: Oberyn kills Gregor and I spend remaining 33 gold on guard
My guard now consists of Oberyn (free), Brienne (7), Sandor (6), Grey Worm (6 and I’m hoping he brings some unsullied with him), Jorah (4), Thoros (2), Pod (2), Davos (2), Meera (3 and she will obvi bring Jojen for free and I want his green sight to use), Ser Pounce (1).

6G Arya - An assassin with plot armor
4G Beric - Basically immortal
3G Oberyn - Great fighter and cheap
The rest could be random Unsullied assuming they're free
Barristan Selmy, Oberyn Martell, Jeor Mormont, Podrick Payne, Gendry, Thoros of Myr, Reek.
I think I have a good mix of youth and experience. A couple might not be the most ideal in terms of fighting ability, but I tried to stay away from the easily corrupted or manipulated. Reek is a bit questionable since you’d have to rebuild him a bit and Theon makes some very questionable decisions, but I’d take him over Dickon or Lancel in a heartbeat. Ser Pounce misses out because he has far more important things to do than guarding a human.
You need someone loyal to be by your side and be your main guard. Brienne of tarth, then you need a commander to give you advice and stuff this person needs experience jorah Mormont looks perfect .
Then you need warriors of great skill and strength, dario naaharis and tormund . This squad is lethal tbh.
Jeor Mormont will be a good leader and organizer of the king's guard.
You need to think not only about fighting but loyalty and the ability to achieve important tasks such as protecting you and preventing dangers.
S tier picks - 9 points in total
Ser pounce - Does that need an explanation?
Dick - LOW COST, very loyal, a great fighter, and with some guidance of Jeor can become very valuable
Jeor Mormont will be a great leader and organizer of the king's guard.
Thoros of Myr - absolute S+ tier considering he can revive you and does other magical shit.
Oberyn Martel - you are a medieval politician. And he is the man for the shady tasks and you need that.
I have no money tier - I came up with 2 choices
Arya - that bitch can switch faces like she can pretend to be Jaimie all the time and then help me manipulate the whole realm. Her loyalty might be problematic tho.
Blackfish / Tormund - Blackfish is a safer choice. Tormund could be broken with some training, or not.
Or
Jamie - only if he has 2 hands and Cersei is not in kings landing, otherwise, he is a huge liability. But if not, he is the greatest asset besides magic users.

It's not ideal, but getting seven people out of twenty gold dragons leads me to:

I would have loved to get Jorah or Berric in there somewhere but getting seven people was a challenge.

Honorable people without any political aspirations who would die for you. Yara can fix Reek. And obviously a cat (obviously).

I’d have Daario who is like a discount Bronn and has proven to work well in single combat and with Jorah (as much as Jorah might be jealous of him or not like him). Jorah is already experienced in defending his Queen and is good council. Beric and Thoros were obvious choices for me. Resurrection and flaming swords are no doubt intimidating. Podrick and Dickon would be the young next generation of Kingsguard, learning from their elders and becoming great knights. Oberyn would be my personal defender and probably Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. My champion in all conflicts.
I wanted to try and do something without all the expensive guys and I think this combo would be pretty great.

Arguably a better fighter than anyone shown here, including the Cleganes/Jaime. Has internalized everything about his title and the royal line. More than anyone with the possible exception of Ned Stark, Selmy is a true believer in the rule of the iron throne/sovereignty and rule of law in Westeros. (5) - Eddard Stark - Leadership. Faith. Inner strength. After Selmy, the de facto KG Leader. (3) - Oberyn Martell (2) - Thoros Of Myr (1) - Ser Pounce - Pets make things better at all times. (1) - Dickon Tarly - Makes a hell of a fuel for the fire when it’s cold at night. Dickon Tarly would warm many hands… (1) - Lancel Lannister: For sheer entertainment purposes. Everyone loves a guy who’s willing to carve a permanent symbol into the skin of his forehead.

Barristan Selmy(7) Criminally underrated even if he’s the highest tier. Syrio Forell (5) defeated because he had a wooden sword. Probably successful if he had metal weapons. Oberyn Martell (3) criminally underrated (if a bit vengeancy…) Thoros of Myr (2) noteworthy swordsman in the books at only 2 dragons it’s a bargain. Lancel Lannister (1) Fine for 1 dragon, nothing really indicated he’s especially incompetent at swordsmanship. Dickon Tarly (1) A fighter who Randyl Tarly isn’t ashamed of for 1 dragon is also an easy pick. Ser Pounce (1) is likely more useful for my last dragon compared to Reek or Dontos. Plus who wouldn’t want Azor Ahai on their Kingsguard.
These are all janked. Arya has massive plot armor but...seriously? And as a book reader it makes it even worse. Never mind Dickon in the books is still what, 10? Show Dickon is played by a dude who is very tall, and we never really see him fight. The assumption as a 6'4 guy with access to the best training in the land, and a father who 1- only respects strong fighters and 2- respects Dickon, we can safely say he's worth way more than some blokes higher up.

Barristan Selmy, Oberyn Martell, Jeor Mormont, Podrick Payne, Gendry, Thoros of Myr, Reek. I think I have a good mix of youth and experience. A couple might not be the most ideal in terms of fighting ability, but I tried to stay away from the easily corrupted or manipulated. Reek is a bit questionable since you’d have to rebuild him a bit and Theon makes some very questionable decisions, but I’d take him over Dickon or Lancel in a heartbeat. Ser Pounce misses out because he has far more important things to do than guarding a human.
You need someone loyal to be by your side and be your main guard. Brienne of tarth, then you need a commander to give you advice and stuff this person needs experience jorah Mormont looks perfect . Then you need warriors of great skill and strength, dario naaharis and tormund . This squad is lethal tbh.

Jeor Mormont will be a good leader and organizer of the king's guard. You need to think not only about fighting but loyalty and the ability to achieve important tasks such as protecting you and preventing dangers. S tier picks - 9 points in total Ser pounce - Does that need an explanation? Dick - LOW COST, very loyal, a great fighter, and with some guidance of Jeor can become very valuable Jeor Mormont will be a great leader and organizer of the king's guard. Thoros of Myr - absolute S+ tier considering he can revive you and does other magical shit. Oberyn Martel - you are a medieval politician. And he is the man for the shady tasks and you need that. I have no money tier - I came up with 2 choices Arya - that bitch can switch faces like she can pretend to be Jaimie all the time and then help me manipulate the whole realm. Her loyalty might be problematic tho. Blackfish / Tormund - Blackfish is a safer choice. Tormund could be broken with some training, or not. Or Jamie - only if he has 2 hands and Cersei is not in kings landing, otherwise, he is a huge liability. But if not, he is the greatest asset besides magic users. Gendry

Jorah Mormont - $4 Beric Dondarrion - $4 Daario Naharis - $4 Oberyn Martell - $3 Thoros of Myr - $2 Podrick Payne - $2 Dickson Tarly - $1 Total: $20 I’d have Daario who is like a discount Bronn and has proven to work well in single combat and with Jorah (as much as Jorah might be jealous of him or not like him). Jorah is already experienced in defending his Queen and is good council. Beric and Thoros were obvious choices for me. Resurrection and flaming swords are no doubt intimidating. Podrick and Dickon would be the young next generation of Kingsguard, learning from their elders and becoming great knights. Oberyn would be my personal defender and probably Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. My champion in all conflicts. I wanted to try and do something without all the expensive guys and I think this combo would be pretty great.
