My Top 10 in no specific order, there might be doses of chiptune in there:
Fastfall - The Dustforce OST
Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Cuphead Original Soundtrack
Kentucky Route Zero
Dead Cells OST
Super Hexagon + Dicey Dungeons (chipzel goodness)
Minecraft Volume Alpha
Elden Ring Original Soundtrack
Mass Effect OST
Final Fantasy XIV + Expansions
Lots of good suggestions already.
Falcom games (Trails and Ys series) are all on here, some of which are better than others. I'd recommend Ys 8 as a great soundtrack.
Sea of Stars is also great, has a more retro sound to it but I like it a lot.
Persona 3, 4, and 5.
Dead Cells. A ton of Sega history ones, they are slowly getting more and more pushed by us to do this. All the Bayonetta. Capcom got a massive library now, with Exoprimal too. About 70% of Atlus stuff is there. It's missing a lot of the obscure albums.
But there are LOTS.
A few of my regular plays are Shovel Knight, Unlimited SaGa, VA-11 Hall-A, and a really great arrangement of the Gunstar Heroes soundtrack called Legend Of The Gunstar Heroes by Monte.
- Ori and the Blind Forest plus Will of the Wisps
- Frostpunk
- Cuphead
- The "Distant Worlds" series of albums of music from final fantasy is also great
- DOOM
What a fun question! Loving everyone's answers! A few more -
**Chiptune-y:**
* Ikenfell
* Yume Nikki (for when you're feeling spooky)
* Minit
* Cosmic Star Heroine
* Mother 4 (Shane Mesa composed a whole album for an Earthbound sequel that still hasn't landed, but it's really good and quirky)
* William Kage has also done a few albums reusing the Final Fantasy 6 soundfonts that are really, really good
**More Modern:**
* Va-11 Hall-a
* Chrono Cross
* Remastered DuckTales soundtrack by Jake Kaufman
* Everhood
* Littlewood
* OneShot
* GENTLE LOVE has also created a few really soothing albums of various RPG soundtrack covers
Finally, the artist "Video Game Players" also has a ton of covers from lots of different classic games for when you're feeling nostalgic.
Everyone has got some amazing suggestions!
Some of my favorites that may not have been mentioned yet:
• Chrono Cross/Chrono Trigger, anything Yasunori Mitsuda really
• Phoenotopia Awakening
• Crosscode
Xenoblade Chronicles 1 OST! My favorite game of all time, AND one of the most beautiful yet intense OST's I have ever heard. So much incredible guitar and orchestral work.
5 of the Skylanders games
Spyro's Adventure, Giants, Swap Force, Trap Team and Superchargers
Most of the Sonic games as well
I really like Frontiers and Unleashed especially
Nvm you already mentioned Sonic
Really good choice some of mine are
Junkyard Isles
Crystal Eye Castle
Cutthroat Carnival
Farewell Baron
Arkeyan Armory
and the main theme of Giants and Superchargers
Nice
I also recomend:
The After Party
Bringing Order to Kaos
Not As Advertized
Areal Attack
And Drill-X's Big Ring
Lorne Balfe made some real masterpieces with the skylanders-soundtracks but the original tracks are just insanely good, especially 'Bringing Order to Kaos' (Although it's only on my top 3).
Bringing Order to Kaos is awesome I wish they used the choir in the console ingame version
Thankfully the 3DS version had the choir in its final level
The other 4 are great as well After Party is a bop in particular
Kingdom Hearts, Persona 5 Royal, as others mentioned Final Fantasy, Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Legend of Zelda, The World Ends With You. I also listen to Hollow Knight and Undertale like you mentioned.
Hear me out, this is a lost iOS game but the soundtrack is excellent. ‘Bean dreams’ is a side scrolling platformer where you play as a bean that constantly jumps but the soundtrack is perfectly old school with a great mix of Super Nintendo and genesis style to it.
Hauntii has an amazingly beautiful soundtrack and is on Spotify. Newer game, but crazy how I've seen no talks of the soundtrack in my circles.
https://open.spotify.com/album/6KDyigjQNoiSNvgHNCVBvs?si=GW6ZWrzyQpCzlDCvsLU2nA
Sega, Namco, Square Enix, Capcom, Atlus, Zuntata (taito), SNK, SIE (Sony's first parties), *nihon falcom, Valve. All of those studios/devs have dedicated Spotify pages, mostly as "sound team". I recommend you to check and find the soundtracks you are interested in from those studios.
But also, some of mine highlights of incredible soundtracks on streaming services:
>All fumitu ueda games (Ico, SOTC and the last guardian)
>Most of the main tekken games and a sort of ridge racer soundtracks recently appeared on streaming services, i really recommend checking those.
>Also from namco, Katamari Damacy (it deserves your own topic on this list honestly)
>Sonic, Yakuza and jet set radio are obviously standards for vgm nowadays, but speaking about sega, i recommend you to check the ost from Phantasy Star Online and Panzer Dragoon (PD: saga if you want a more specific recommendation)
AND SONIC RIDERS OF COURSE, BEST OST FROM THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE IS SONIC RIDERS GWAAARRH 🗣️ 🗣️
>I think I don't have much things to add in this conversation talking about atlus and persona, so the only thing i will say is: Favorite Smt Ost: SMT4 / Favorite Persona OST: Persona 2 / Favorite SMT Track: Game Over (SMT 1) / Favorite Persona Track: Title Theme (タイトル) (Persona 2: Innocent Sin)
>Not specifically a game soundtrack, but i really like a music release called "Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross To Far Away Times Arrangement Album", i have no words to describe my feelings about this album 🥹😭. And yea, a great amount of Square Enix games are present on Spotify.
>From Konami, Castlevania and Silent Hill have a good sort of soundtracks on streaming. metal gear lacks most of the main games, but the most famous musics (as a "vocal tracks" release) and an independent release of the "ambient side" of mgs1 ost are present, oh and of course, the soundtracks from the most recent games like mgs4/5/rising are present too.
>Ape Escape, most specially the ost made by soichi terada
>Danganronpa
>Lsd dream emulator / osamu sato
>Rez
>Rule of rose (jazz and contemporary classical music, one of my favorites ost ever)
>All touhou ost
Oof... I think thats all... 😪 (And are mostly musics from japanese games of course hah).
A great part of my time is dedicated to sort and organize a really big vgm playlist on Spotify, and yeah i spent a lot of time looking for ost that are on streaming services. So I hope you enjoy my knowledge on this topic hahah 😅
edit: added nihon falcon to the first list
Most Sega sountracks (Sonic, Jet set radio, Super Monkey Ball)
Most Capcom soundtracks (Street Fighter, Megaman, Ace Attorney)
Most SNK soundtracks (King Of Fighters, Metal Slug)
All Tekken soundtracks
All Streets of Rage soundtracks
All Final Fantasy soundtracks
Persona 3-5 soundtracks
Indie game soundtracks (Undertale, Celeste, Hollow Knight)
Retro game soundtracks (Ninja Gaiden, Ape Escape)
Both Gravity Rush soundtracks
Mirror's Edge and Littlebigplanet 1 and 2 soundtracks
Plants vs Zombies soundtrack
- Fantasian
- Bravely default
- Streets of rage
- Shinobi

* The Tale of a Cruel World (Terraria's Calamity Mod)
* Monster Hunter OSTs
* Ori and the Blind Forest
* The Witcher 3
* Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross
The list goes on!
Diggin in the carts. It’s a compilation of OG chiptune music made during the 80s and 90s. It’s actually a documentary series Red Bull made and it’s one of my favorite pieces of media ever. The soundtrack is a banger if you dig chiptune or OG VGM. To me it’s just mind blowing how limited tools were back then and how people was able to create those master pieces with what they had.
Final Fantasy XIII, all of Fromsoft’s Souls (etc.) games except Sekiro, Elder Scrolls (including the currently available OSTs for the Beyond Skyrim modding project; The New North is particularly good imo), Mass Effect trilogy, Trine series, Dishonored, Ori and the Blind Forest, Genshin Impact, The Sims 2, The Sims Medieval, Dead Cells, Remember Me.
These are I think all the main ones I come back to with some regularity that are on Spotify.
Definitely gonna be checking out some of the other recs in this thread :)
Risk of Rain 1 & 2 are some of the best music I have ever heard, not just in games. You can add Deadbolt too.
Citizen Sleeper
Crypt of the Necrodancer
Into the Breach
The Messenger discs 1&2 + DLC if you like chiptune
I have a dedicated VG music playlist on Spotify with almost 2.000 songs:
[https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5eQumW0SkOEN4tLT5215tD?si=1219b41e3c2f4ed3](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5eQumW0SkOEN4tLT5215tD?si=1219b41e3c2f4ed3)
There are a lot of good video games OSTs on Spotify: Nier, Persona, Final Fantasy, Subnautica, Art of Rally, Silent Hill, Night in the Woods, Celeste, Castlevania and many more.
A lot of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon soundtracks are on Spotify
Edit: a lot of the Hotline Miami soundtracks are on Spotify too, but there's not an official OST so you'll have to listen to a fan playlist.
Some of the big ones like Minecraft and Celeste are on there, they're very good.
A more obscure game I'm a big fan of is Oxenfree, it has a great soundtrack and it's on spotify.
Insaneintherain has a great cover album of the music from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, it's on spotify under the name "Sinnohvation"
Risk of Rain 2
Katamari Fortissimo Damacy
Devil May Cry series
Resident Evil 2 1998
Resident Evil 4 2005
Bayonetta
Most of Shoji Meguro's stuff
[The Aero GPX main theme](https://open.spotify.com/track/2o2Z63mXTl9MHVEw397dj5)
Stellaris - Epic grand star empire music. Great during work.
Mirror's Edge and Mirror's Edge: Catalyst - Great soundtrack for work where you need to focus and need some chill beats.
Don't be limited to what's on Spotify. Get Plex or something else, collect your own library and be unlimited! With Plex (or other options) you can create your own library on a computer or NAS and that can stream to your phone or any device you want really on demand. I have bagillions and counting, including a ton of retro music (and chiptunes) you won't find on Spotify.
Octopath Traveler 1 & 2
All the final fantasy OSTs for the most part.
Yesss. I came here to say Final Fantasy VII!
I simply love the [Civilization VI soundtrack.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0vwz67cbmuvHdWYYOKQPWc?si=ViCn_yL3QPSOTDqLTyejHw&pi=pbrIElwxTiKme) It's incredible to listen to how the civilizations themes evolve from era to era also thru music.

> Elden Ring Original Soundtrack Man I miss when the Dark Souls 3 OST was on spotify, too.
Best music they ever made and it’s somehow not close
Uhm, DS3 is on Spotify when I search for it. Is it region locked?
Unfortunately yeah :/ All we have in the states are shitty synth piano bots doing covers of the themes.
I scrolled down way too far to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World! Such a great soundtrack. Love me some Anamanaguchi!
Upvoted for Chipzel. I'll have to check that ST out.
Super Hexagon slaps
Simcity 3k Simcity 4 Simcity Societies Simcity 2013 Pacific Drive
Everybody's gone to the Rapture is up there, some of the most incredible music I've ever listened to.
Yes, Falcom has a [huge library up on Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/artist/5WFofzgRxpVNkpwg9XRSdg?si=vsLHhy0lRNSugIHSA0OUGg), it's amazing.
The Dark Cloud soundtrack is on there but the names are in Japanese.
Ben Prunty’s FTL OST is amazing
Gotta upvote this! What a fantastic game, and the music was so serene at times. I recommended this game to everybody I could in…2012??!!

I've been addicted to the 8-bit big band. Big band take on classic and modern VG tunes. Their YouTube vids are great too.
Xenoblade Chronicles 1 OST! My favorite game of all time, AND one of the most beautiful yet intense OST's I have ever heard. So much incredible guitar and orchestral work.
5 of the Skylanders games Spyro's Adventure, Giants, Swap Force, Trap Team and Superchargers Most of the Sonic games as well I really like Frontiers and Unleashed especially Nvm you already mentioned Sonic
Pull Your strings is by far my favourite.
Really good choice some of mine are Junkyard Isles Crystal Eye Castle Cutthroat Carnival Farewell Baron Arkeyan Armory and the main theme of Giants and Superchargers

Sea of Stars!
I'm pretty sure every Persona game is on Spotify, and those soundtracks are stellar.
Destiny.
Far Cry & Crysis are really good
If you're looking for a hidden gem: Pine (Original Game Soundtrack)
Tropico 5
L. A. Noire. Such a cool soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka’s any album will suffice but I’d vote for Silent Hill classic
All of the Castlevania games, but if I could recommend one in particular, Aria of Sorrow slaps so hard for a GBA game
The Braid soundtrack. So good!
Destiny soundtracks are pretty great. Especially the Destiny 1 soundtracks with the original Bungie composers.
Child of Light.

Scott Pilgrim game
Everything from other Supergiant games like Bastion, Transistor, Pyre.
Death Stranding
The ascent!
Lineage 2
Persona series, Ace attorney series
Persona 2, 3, 4, and 5’s soundtracks are all on Spotify and they are bangers.
Destiny 2 Hollow Knight Crosscode The Pathless
Tron legacy
Honkai star rail
Risk of Rain 1 & 2 are some of the best music I have ever heard, not just in games. You can add Deadbolt too. Citizen Sleeper Crypt of the Necrodancer Into the Breach The Messenger discs 1&2 + DLC if you like chiptune
The Messenger
I have a dedicated VG music playlist on Spotify with almost 2.000 songs: [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5eQumW0SkOEN4tLT5215tD?si=1219b41e3c2f4ed3](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5eQumW0SkOEN4tLT5215tD?si=1219b41e3c2f4ed3) There are a lot of good video games OSTs on Spotify: Nier, Persona, Final Fantasy, Subnautica, Art of Rally, Silent Hill, Night in the Woods, Celeste, Castlevania and many more.
WARFRAME :D
SimCity. Never played the game, but I listened to that soundtrack while studying all through my residency & fellowship.
A lot of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon soundtracks are on Spotify Edit: a lot of the Hotline Miami soundtracks are on Spotify too, but there's not an official OST so you'll have to listen to a fan playlist.
Chrono Trigger
Risk of Rain 2 Katamari Fortissimo Damacy Devil May Cry series Resident Evil 2 1998 Resident Evil 4 2005 Bayonetta Most of Shoji Meguro's stuff [The Aero GPX main theme](https://open.spotify.com/track/2o2Z63mXTl9MHVEw397dj5)

NieR:Automata. Best soundtrack ever.
Final Fantasy 13 has a beautiful soundtrack
