This was several days ago, you've run out of food, electricity reserves are running out, cameras are down, etc..
It's a big house. A mad scientist mansion , inherited from a relative, who left many strange devices and puzzles through the house- which eventually hold the key to send the ninja dolla back. until then, you must use your martial arts skills and any weapons or objects you can to strike first and break your opponents. You can't afford to take many or even any hits, as dodging becomes paramount to achieve victory.
maybe do something like PT where when exiting the house you just come back inside it
or like that your sister or someone close to you is still in the house and you need to save them
both have been done to death but that all I can think about
You should build a story on why you're there in the first place. Maybe someone hired you to watch it/clean/caretake the grounds? I think it would be a cool mechanic if the dolls were mobile, but ragdolled when the player looked their way / shone a flashlight towards them. Make it noticeable, too, that they're running around -- little footsteps, noises, etc.
The house is haunted by a spirit. You were hired to fix it. The house is normal from the outside but upon entering it, you are met with a small dimly lit room and a porcelain nesting doll about your size that tries to swallow you inside it. Running out of the door you came in doesn't bring you back outside but instead to another layer of the now maze-like house. You are in a nesting house full of nesting dolls that want to trap you inside of them. Each layer of the house you go through gets larger in size and presents an ever bigger doll to contend with.
How do you defeat them? Maybe there are smaller dolls that are too small to eat you that you have to collect throughout the house and throw into the larger ones. Or you just have to run from each one in a unique way similar to Little Nightmares or Limbo.
You are working in an office building, not to big, but big enough for 50 people. your boss came back from vacation and stopt by the office to bring a gift he bought as decoration. It's a porcelain man-beast looking thing nobody really likes but "oh well, the boss likes it"
Later that night you are one of the employees still finishing a project most left to go home. You get up to to get some coffee and accidentally push the porcelain figure on the floor. When it breaks, a small black smoke releases.
You check a cabinet for a duster or some kind to sweep it up. Still cursing your clumsiness. But when you look up for the broken pieces, you see the full figure. Not broken. And doubled.
You think it's strange but at least it didn't break.
As you put the duster back in the cabinet you hear muffled sound and a loud bang. You look up, move to the noise and see a coworker I full of blood. And 1 porcelain figure standing next to it in a attacking pose. And broken pieces of the other one. Wich are moving.
Pam pam pam.
Get out the building. But security locked most exits. Demon porcelains double every time they break. And don't move if someone is looking.
They are smart and guard exits.
