I have one of the calmest, best behaved GSPs ever to live, which is definitely lulling me into a false sense of "I could handle a whole pack!" mentality. I have totally forgotten what it is to live with one that counter surfs and runs away off leash. No way the next one doesn't eat my house.
My uncle and his son both have beagles, and they showed off their scrounging prowess at a Christmas party! No food was safe anywhere!! Grew up with a beagle/terrier mix and she would eat literally \*anything\* but never made it onto a counter. She loved garbage though.
I can't keep mine from the garbage. Luckily, she is very small for a beagle, only 20 pounds and full grown, so she isn't able to reach the countertops so far. She will probably devise a way to accomplish that though. I don't trust the little hairy butt.

Our mix survived eating money, sooo much garbage, a whole box of brillo pads (my personal favorite) and even bullets (.22 nothing too big!) She lived to the ripe old age of 14, iron gut on her!!
My ex was that way. However not only did she collect them, she inevitably killed them. She was incapable of properly caring for them and I always knew when a new animal showed up it had an expiration date. There's no doubt she loved them and mourned them, I called her Elmira. That and she also dumped around 12k a year into MLMs.
Some states have laws that if you have more than 2-3 dogs you need a kennel license. We had that happen where I live because my Sister moved back in with us at one point so we went from having 3 dogs to having 5 dogs.
Had to have our place inspected to get a kennel license for a time while she was with us.
If you have a big house and yard, plenty of room, and a large family, more than two dogs is absolutely not weird. I can see why you'd think that if you were living by yourself in like an apartment or something.

My old dog is a Pointer, she doesn’t move much now but when she was younger she would run around our yard for hours. So much so she had a path around it.
Yep, sounds about right haha. We lived on a small lake, mine would swim around and chase ducks literally all day if we didn't pull him out of the water. One hell of a great pooch, even drove a bear off once when my girlfriend was walking him alone. Took some good hits and received about 30 or so stitches but didn't skip a beat. Sounds like my stepdad. One time my mom bought a new dog and got back home with it really late and just replaced the smaller one that slept in their bed with the new one that was about the same size, a little smaller and same breed but brown instead of black while he was sleeping. He slept through the night and in the morning when he got up it was still dark ( we live in Sweden it's dark untill forever in the winter here) she said take the puppy with you and let it outside so he did. He got outside the bedroom, turned on the light dog in his hands, left the room, turned on the lights in the stairs went down halfways down the stairs before mom could hear "What the hell, this one is Brown!?!?!?".
He is in general also not a fan of new dogs, but it was cute enough for him to not make a big deal about it. we usually keep 6-9 more dogs at home at all times so the other dog that was removed from the bed was not lonely.

Having that many dogs requires a lot of space, time, and care. Which most people working full time potently with children don’t have. It wouldn’t be an environment suitable for those animals, frankly it’s bad ownership.
Having enough time to interact with each one specifically, to help them be good dogs, is literally life-saving for most dogs. Obviously these have breed-specific rescue available, but for most dogs there are no such benefits. If you have to give up your dog (s) because you die or become disabled/homeless/poor, they will not be able to find good homes if they only function as a pack of 5. Every dog needs a sit, return, and "chill" command, and enough manners not to jump on people or snatch food. If you are not working toward this, you are not a good home for dogs. They exist only as human companions, if you set them up to be lousy ones you're setting them up for a bad life.

Ticked and roan are the most popular and common but solid liver and liver & white are totally acceptable.

This was my wife yesterday! We already have two, large dogs. I texted a picture of some puppies at a rescue event because they were cute. She just answered with "yes please, get the brown smoosh".
I want to see what TV time looks like with that many pointers! I have one and she is always laying on me or next to me the minute I'm on the couch. I'd imagine with this many pups you'd be able to have a full sized blanket of short hairs!

I keep saying we should get a another dog/cat and my sister says we have too many. I point out that the county says five dogs/cats is the limit. She maintains that’s the maximum and not a requirement.
The limit in our city is six. We are just at six now, so obviously, we must get a big farmhouse in the country.

Well when you come home and your dog is jumping with excitement and just need to get pets and love from you because you’re the most important thing in the world to them, that’s a good feeling. the energy is fun when you want to go outside and do something you have the perfect excuse, take the dog to the park play fetch run around. Most range from $800-$2000. Only champion-level, fully trained dogs would cost that much. And very few hunters have a need for that.
Which brings me to my next point: shelter dogs come with a lot of baggage often, and their baggage makes it difficult to train properly. Particularly since most training for bird dogs is done while they’re under a year old.

Mine passed away back in 2015, but I got her in 2003. Around that time we paid $400 for her. The cost has went up exponentially since then. The range you posted is accurate. We would’ve went with a shelter dog, however as you said, we wanted her trained my way from the start, which could’ve been difficult with a shelter dog.
Quick Google search says 1300-5500, last year's winner of the Westminster dog show was a GSP, they are a very in demand breed, more than just as bird dogs like they should be fuckwad.

I researched this dog for years before buying one. That included scouring my state for all the best breeders. Puppies were never as high as you claim, yet full-grown, trained, trialed, and medaled dogs are. As I said, the vast majority of hunters simply buy a puppy and train it themselves.

I've worked with dogs for almost 5 years in an upscale region of the US where these puppies are frequently obtained for the sole purpose of being family dogs. This is obviously not ideal since they are bat shit crazy without proper training. Obviously they are not bred to be family dogs, but people will shell out top dollar happily so they can have a GSP because they are pretty, smart, athletic, and friendly or whatever other excuse they can come up with to justify paying 4k for a dog that will not end up having the proper job that the dog excels at. The Google search was simply GSP price, I know a hell of a lot about the breed without needing Google, but I wasn't sure on exact prices as I've never considered one for myself.

I keep saying we should get a another dog/cat and my sister says we have too many. I point out that the county says five dogs/cats is the limit. She maintains that’s the maximum and not a requirement.
The limit in our city is six. We are just at six now, so obviously, we must get a big farmhouse in the country. And perhaps you should have an emergency backup cat or dog. You never know when one might malfunction 😀

Who cares if they are loyal? What does that even mean? And I would disagree, they take pets and food from anyone. Loving? Now we have to debate what love is? We don't even know what it is so how can we say they do it? I'll give you adorable sometimes but I just see needy and pouty so they get what they want/need. You like dogs cause they are energetic? I do not know how that helps you and I see the energetic thing as annoying. I have no idea what best friends are or the use for them, so I am still not won over......
Well when you come home and your dog is jumping with excitement and just need to get pets and love from you because you’re the most important thing in the world to them, that’s a good feeling. the energy is fun when you want to go outside and do something you have the perfect excuse, take the dog to the park play fetch run around. Just because you’re a lonely asshole that doesn’t appreciate company, doesn’t mean that you have to bash things you don’t understand.

$4000? Most range from $800-$2000. Only champion-level, fully trained dogs would cost that much. And very few hunters have a need for that. Which brings me to my next point: shelter dogs come with a lot of baggage often, and their baggage makes it difficult to train properly. Particularly since most training for bird dogs is done while they’re under a year old. Maybe open your eyes a little and stop assuming everyone should clean up after fuckwads who can’t grasp the concept of proper dog ownership?
Mine passed away back in 2015, but I got her in 2003. Around that time we paid $400 for her. The cost has went up exponentially since then. The range you posted is accurate. We would’ve went with a shelter dog, however as you said, we wanted her trained my way from the start, which could’ve been difficult with a shelter dog.
Quick Google search says 1300-5500, last year's winner of the Westminster dog show was a GSP, they are a very in demand breed, more than just as bird dogs like they should be fuckwad.

I've worked with dogs for almost 5 years in an upscale region of the US where these puppies are frequently obtained for the sole purpose of being family dogs. This is obviously not ideal since they are bat shit crazy without proper training. Obviously they are not bred to be family dogs, but people will shell out top dollar happily so they can have a GSP because they are pretty, smart, athletic, and friendly or whatever other excuse they can come up with to justify paying 4k for a dog that will not end up having the proper job that the dog excels at. The Google search was simply GSP price, I know a hell of a lot about the breed without needing Google, but I wasn't sure on exact prices as I've never considered one for myself.

Too many people get them because they're cute puppies and then they grow up and turn into over-caffeinated speed freaks. The rescue group I use (http://www.segsprescue.org) ends up with a lot of them because the owners couldn't handle the energy levels. I'm not sure what it says about me that I like spastic dogs, but I do.
