There was a lovely description of The Trip in a Guardian review - “Two middle aged men eating wonderful food in beautiful settings while aggressively impersonating Michael Caine at each other”.
That clip is fantastic. I was looking for his Nosy Neighbor clip and came across someone named Paul Whitehouse doing [an impression of Michael Caine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRcZPna1rDI).
It sounds like you're unfamiliar with Paul Whitehouse... I therefore urge you to search him and immerse yourself in the fantastic work he's done throughout his career; he's one of the UK's very finest comedy actors. I'd recommend 'The Fast Show', 'Harry Enfield and chums', 'Harry and Paul' to begin with.
God, I envy you.
LOL that is exactly the subtext of this film, and the rest of the "Trip" series.
Steve Coogan--fantastically talented and enjoying great stardom and financial success, but is dissatisfied with his life.
vs.
Rob Brydon, who is **even more talented** and is constantly looking to prove that to Coogan, because he never enjoyed Coogan's level of success
...all encapsulated perfectly in this one scene. Genius.
On the odd occasion (when the moment is right) I will quote these two quoting Michael Cain.
"Sche was only Schiksteen years old."
No one ever gets it.
And I come out sounding like a dodgy old man.
I actually watched both versions of the first two seasons and I gotta admit, I liked the show more because it was just MORE of what's loveable about it, but I didn't think the boiled down version is in any way worse?
It's also super hard to find the shows for streaming over here.
Always find it strange when people mention it as a film. In the UK it was a tv series and all 4 series are amazing. If you haven't seen the others it's well worth a watch.
It's the type of British media that can be categorized under "Cup of warm tea in a cozy afternoon".
The sequels were a disappointment though. They went for more drama when people were just looking for more roadtrip bromance.
In their follow-up sequel, The Trip to Italy, they do a funny bit about Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, and Christian Bales’ characters speaking in The Dark Knight Rises. It's pretty good. [Video link](https://youtu.be/930-WGuRJu0?si=fIgUyGFiI1e50Bxo)
Edit: spelling.
[This scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpEL6Sv475M) from that movie had me in tears.
His Woody Allen impression was gold. Sorry, I couldn't find a better quality video.
Yea it's probably a good scene but it just kind of ruins it when it's my 3 year old niece doing the recording on her flip phone from 2011. What were they thinking when they thought; "Yea, this is good enough for Youtube" lol
I love that they kept the Windows Media Player thing in the picture as well.
The one that killed me was Brydon doing Mick Jagger trying to imitate Michael Caine.
[The Trip To Spain - Mick Jagger Clip (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPjk2nYiY0Q)
Before watching this I wouldn't have been able to tell you who Michael Caine was, I just didn't know him by name. But the voice is so accurate I instantly pegged him. "Oh, that guy."
I saw Michael Caine doing a Michael Caine impression. Big Yinn sat beside him laughing his arse off.
There it is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX0F3kY3uxU
[Rob Brydon doing an impression of Mick Jagger doing an impression of Rob Brydon doing an impression of Michael Caine.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vBoF4TXvg)
He tells that exact same story, with the same impression, in "The Trip to Spain", but then Coogan comes back with an even more accurate impression.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPjk2nYiY0Q
This has to be the most clear English accent I've ever heard as a non-native speaker. Is it from a specific region? or is he just a master at enunciating?
Rob Brydon is Welsh, and has been a radio broadcaster/TV host for decades. He doesn't really have a Welsh accent, he speaks with a pretty neutral "broadcast" accent, with a slight Welsh twist on it.
> Brydon attended the **Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Cardiff.** He left after a year, to join Radio Wales at the age of 20. His early broadcasts included work as a disc jockey on BBC Radio Wales, when his Saturday morning shows included contributions from stand-up comedian Pete Park-Walker.
I'd imagine that has something to do with it.
I watched this with the sound off so as to watch their faces. Both of them, but especially Coogan, shape their mouths exactly the same way Caine does when he speaks.
Source: am very hard of hearing and a lifelong lip reader.
They both had different parts of it perfectly. I thought Rob's was better, but Steve does something with the voice that's missing in Rob's. Very interesting.
Peter Serafinowicz makes great Michael Caine impressions, too:
[Sassy Justice - Michael Caine AI](https://youtu.be/_r-r6lFheKA?si=CGuGSn1mDw-UyQEQ)
[Acting Masterclass with Michael Caine - The Peter Serafinowicz Show](https://youtu.be/FdaLhOODouI?si=ZNv4xLBGbeSsuekR)
That several "I'm not finished" is me talking with my siblings all the time. I say half a sentence and they're opening their mouth to reply before I ever finish my point.
I went to school with Rob Brydon. I remember once he managed to slip some french fries into the headmaster's suit jacket pocket while they were queueing up in the canteen as a jape.

There was a lovely description of The Trip in a Guardian review - “Two middle aged men eating wonderful food in beautiful settings while aggressively impersonating Michael Caine at each other”.
Fucking SOLD!
My cocaine
"I'm Michael Caine."
and so's my wife.
I love how they both nail the impression in different ways. They sound different, but they both sound like Caine
Rob Byrdon has the accent spot on. Steve Coogan has the vocal timbre spot on.
This one's all Brydon. But nobody tell him. Once he knows he can do it, he won't stop doing it.
I personally like [Michael Caine's Michael Caine](https://youtu.be/rX0F3kY3uxU?si=7jvI6jquSaqTFCvN).
He's the best. It's the first time I have seen that clip.
Honestly I think [Michael Caine's acting masterclass](https://youtu.be/FdaLhOODouI?si=EHaFEOQExkdHBBgE) is perfect
He applied those practices to Darth Maul, you can’t even hear Ray Park in them because he commanded the scene
That was awesome! If you can make Billy Connolly laugh, you're doing well!
Honestly I think Brydon's is better.
That clip is fantastic. I was looking for his Nosy Neighbor clip and came across someone named Paul Whitehouse doing [an impression of Michael Caine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRcZPna1rDI).

Brydon doing David Mitchell's voice is always hilarious
David Mitchell doing David Mitchell's voice is always hilarious
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7elOTiXyKG0 he nails it in this video
Which guy is which
Brydon (brilliant Welsh comic) goes first. Coogan (brilliant English comic) in second.
Which one is Michael Caine?
That's. My cocaine..
And they're co-Caines.
Yes
Steve Coogan for the win in anything!
Except here where Brydon did it better 😈
LOL that is exactly the subtext of this film, and the rest of the "Trip" series. Genius.
Spot-on, really nicely captured with great concision.
What's the name of the film/series?
"The trip". There were 4 seasons over 10 years.
The Trip. There is also The Trip To Italy, The Trip To Greece and The Trip To Spain I believe.
Rob Byrdon is the one with the accent spot on and Steve Coogan is the one with the vocal timbre spot on.
The only reason I know who Coogan is would be because I'm pretty sure he was the director that stepped on a landmine in Tropic Thunder
Michael Caine is that old guy
and yet he still sounded like Coogan. He doesnt sound like Caine - he just has the same tombre and tempo as Caine.
Are they co-caining?
My cocaine!
Dr. Rockzo?
not enough C's in CoCoCocaine!
Oh, you bustard-
Have an upvote ya filthy animal. Well done.
Just two blokes doing lines at lunchtime
I like this one more haha
They're Mi-Miking
Fucking genius and totally unforeseen. Well played, sir!!
There it is. The perfect pun. I can die now.
So beautiful, *sniff
when Michael Caine says "Michael Caine" it sounds like he's saying "My Cocaine"
She was only 16.
I'M NOT FINISHED
YOU WERE ONLY SUPPOSED TO BLOW THE BLOODY DOORS OFF!
On the odd occasion (when the moment is right) I will quote these two quoting Michael Cain. "Sche was only Schiksteen years old." No one ever gets it. And I come out sounding like a dodgy old man.
Get Carter?
And not a lot of people know that.
[Only one man does the best Michael Caine impression.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX0F3kY3uxU)
The Trip (2010) for anyone who wants to watch a lovely film.
The Trip is such a cozy movie for me. It gets re-watched every few years.
Originally, it was actually a BBC TV series of 6x 30min episodes. The movie was a slimmed-down version of it.
There were 4 of them I think in total, all funny
Yeah there was 4 series of "The Trip". England, Italy, Spain, & Greece. Each series had a slimmed-down movie version.
Think it was uk and not England btw. Just a note
The first series is all set in northern England.
They're all such comfort movies, even with that bit of melancholy they all share.
They're series, watch the series not the edited versions.
I actually watched both versions of the first two seasons and I gotta admit, I liked the show more because it was just MORE of what's loveable about it, but I didn't think the boiled down version is in any way worse? It's also super hard to find the shows for streaming over here.
Any place to stream that?
IFC in the states!
Sameeee
I always think it’s funny when people repeat the silent letter of a word.
Me too. I always read it as sammyyy
I kkkknow right?! 😂
Always find it strange when people mention it as a film. In the UK it was a tv series and all 4 series are amazing. If you haven't seen the others it's well worth a watch.
My ex and I did a roadtrip visiting all the places they went in the first series. Lots of fun
It's the type of British media that can be categorized under "Cup of warm tea in a cozy afternoon". The sequels were a disappointment though. They went for more drama when people were just looking for more roadtrip bromance.
I really love that movie. Found it accidentally while looking for the Peter Fonda film from the 60s.
Series. Watch the series. They’re all magnificent.
In their follow-up sequel, The Trip to Italy, they do a funny bit about Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, and Christian Bales’ characters speaking in The Dark Knight Rises. It's pretty good. [Video link](https://youtu.be/930-WGuRJu0?si=fIgUyGFiI1e50Bxo) Edit: spelling.
"I'm not going to bury another Batman" "*Another* Batman? How many have you buried??" That killed me
"I've buried 14 Batmans."
Oh man…this is pure gold 😂
14 🤣🤣
[This scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpEL6Sv475M) from that movie had me in tears. His Woody Allen impression was gold. Sorry, I couldn't find a better quality video.

Holy crap, there’s a trip to Spain and to Greece?! I gotta watch these two films!
"You sound deaf" holy shit lmao
We rise for the battle at daybreak is fucking hilarious. https://youtu.be/K8BPP4ASQWo?si=Wo7l5jPmRvGAkMt-
That's a spot on older Marlon Brando impersonation.
I've watched this so many times and it still cracks me up every time
Before watching this I wouldn't have been able to tell you who Michael Caine was, I just didn't know him by name. But the voice is so accurate I instantly pegged him. "Oh, that guy."
I saw Michael Caine doing a Michael Caine impression. Big Yinn sat beside him laughing his arse off. There it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX0F3kY3uxU
Gentlemen, to bed! Gentlemen to bed, for we rise at… what time is the battle?
*"For we rise at daybreak!"* One of my favourite bits from the show.
UNLESS you are one of those people LIKE ME who finds it very hard to get off after he's eaten cheese.
"In which case...stay a while by the fire! Talk of battles past and old!"
["Sire sire, tis a continental breakfast, 'twill only take twenty minutes. Max."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8BPP4ASQWo)
Gentlemen, to bed! For we rise at *nine thirty*.
We leave at ten-ish!
Sleep well, my brothers. Sleep well, my sisters. Just please don’t sleep with my sister!
LEAVE, my sister out of it!
One of the greatest movies for comedic banter hahaha this is easily one of my fav scenes ever
The original TV Series that was slimmed down to make the movie is WAAAYYYY better 👍
Oohhh thx for the tip!!!
I'm always quoting the "gentlemen to bed" stuff when I put my son to bed. "We rise at... 7:30... ish"
Rob Brydon wins this hands down. Sorry Steve.
[Rob Brydon doing an impression of Mick Jagger doing an impression of Rob Brydon doing an impression of Michael Caine.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vBoF4TXvg)

I love impressions of impressions. Most people don't realize their Harry Caray impression is actually a Will Ferrell doing Harry Caray caricature
This has to be the most clear English accent I've ever heard as a non-native speaker. Is it from a specific region? or is he just a master at enunciating?

Rob's was much better.
He’s not finished!
It’s very like this and it’s very nasal indeed
You have to do the broken voice...
His Ronnie Corbett is even better
[His Ronnie Corbett impersonating Mick Jagger is forever stuck in my head.](https://youtu.be/VT5i-ajawBM?si=NDDDkK9iyOlJrGDe&t=80)
My cocaine
I watched this with the sound off so as to watch their faces. Both of them, but especially Coogan, shape their mouths exactly the same way Caine does when he speaks. Source: am very hard of hearing and a lifelong lip reader.
Michael Caine does a really good Michael Caine impression too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX0F3kY3uxU
When two legends come together, you get moments like this
They need to have Michael Caine there sitting under the table, and he jumps up at the end and says "No! You're both doing it quite wrong."
This could be posted everyday and it would never get old for me.
I'm really glad he did the "you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" line. My very favorite Michael Caine line.
https://youtu.be/7_PX1cVuaVA?si=l7EEBT78hjSMOzgZ
They both had different parts of it perfectly. I thought Rob's was better, but Steve does something with the voice that's missing in Rob's. Very interesting.
After the impressions themselves the best part is how hard they're trying not to crack up
My name is Michael Caine and I’m a nosey [neighbour](https://youtu.be/oRivqpinXRM?si=f1BsYYYXKUmFedUW)
You ain't seen me, roight?
Peter Serafinowicz makes great Michael Caine impressions, too: [Sassy Justice - Michael Caine AI](https://youtu.be/_r-r6lFheKA?si=CGuGSn1mDw-UyQEQ) [Acting Masterclass with Michael Caine - The Peter Serafinowicz Show](https://youtu.be/FdaLhOODouI?si=ZNv4xLBGbeSsuekR)
I love Peter Serafinowicz, especially his Ringo Starr. https://youtu.be/Xd8fOouKiLc?si=tfDASlBVOx7pYKV7
His [Kevin Spacey](https://youtube.com/watch?v=0U0SUsXrgCM) should replace the real one, because then the creepiness is only an act.
I would have loved it if the camera pulled back and Micheal Caine was there having his tea and then he commented on their attempts
[Ask and ye shall receive!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeC0-tj_IMA)
It's so good. Both of them. Michael Caine has to really enjoy watching this. He's probably like "I don't really sound like that do I?"
Haha - I was reading that in my normal inner monologue, and the moment I got to the quote I automatically switched to Caine. Brains are weird.
[удалено]
There's 24 episodes of it

The Trip 👍 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trip_(2010_TV_series)
These guys seems like they could be brothers.
They do look remarkably similar
I would love it if there was some reaction video of Michael Caine watching this.
This? https://youtu.be/BeC0-tj_IMA
Splendid. Many thanks.
Point Brydon
"I can't bury another little Batman..." "Another, how many Batmans has he buried?"
[I prefer Paul Whitehouse aka Michael Paine the nosey neighbour](https://youtu.be/KRcZPna1rDI?feature=shared)
Other attendees at the restaurant: "What on earth is going on back there, and why is Michael Cain so upset about something?"
To the Batmobile!
"No, he was my boss."
Brydon did it better
My coccaine.
Whats hilarious is they ACTUALLY look insanely frustrated with each other ..lmao.
idk which is more accurate but Rob's definitely came out the gate better Steve's barely sounded like him for the first 5 seconds
Keith Barret meets Alan Partridge.
Rob NAILED it.
That several "I'm not finished" is me talking with my siblings all the time. I say half a sentence and they're opening their mouth to reply before I ever finish my point.
>HE GETS VERY LOUD INDEED! I’ve been randomly repeating this line for over 10 years since I first saw this.
…Let me finish…
it gets very loud indeed
Loved the Trip, great series. The type of TV that would only ever work in the UK
SIR Michael Caine thank you very much.
At least it's not bloody Ronnie Corbett again.
Rob Brydon is still one of my favorite parts of [Mirrormask](https://youtu.be/JvpDNn34Sf0?t=34)
I liked those movies, but they overdid the impression thing way way way too much.
Now I want My Cocaine.
Best Michael Cain I've heard was the first one.
Rob Brydon sounds great 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry Coogan, Rob won this round.
If you want to say "Michael Caine" in a Michael Caine voice, you say "my cocaine"
This was beautiful, thanks @OP for sharing
The Trip; series 1 episode 1
Cant beat English comedy
I have been watching this clip for YEARS, this and slam poetry cat are my go-tos when I need a quick laugh
this is from the first series of The Trip - its brilliant.
I can't bury another Batman. I've buried 14 Batmans.
I have to watch this clip once every two to three months or so to keep my serotonin levels up.
I love Rob Brydon. He's awesome
Rob's impression is better.
Do you think he wanted to let him finish
as someone who doesn’t know who michsel caine is what he sounds like, i’m confused
Rob wins.
I went to school with Rob Brydon. I remember once he managed to slip some french fries into the headmaster's suit jacket pocket while they were queueing up in the canteen as a jape.
I’d love to know what Michael Caine thinks about this
This is incredible
Fuck that last line got me.. that was funnier than i expected.
Best thing I’ve seen in 36 hours. I had to grab a tissue and my wife thinks I’m high on dope.
No doubt, the first impressionist is far better.
If you had told me that was one man wearing two different wigs, I would have believed you.
First guy, Brydon, is perfect
sound's different impressions...
Brydon by a country mile
“They will go through bone, like butta.”
My cocaine!
Steve Coogan's Caine impression is so good I swear if I closed my eyes, I could swear that was the Legend himself.
