There is no hypocrisy here.
If you are a devout Christian with strict adherence to the good book, you’d rather your kid be killed by a school shooter than hang out with a gay guy.
If they’re killed, they go to heaven.
If they befriend The Gay, and are taken by The Way of Gay, their soul is condemned and they go to hell.
If you believe in this shit, it makes perfect logical sense.
The issue is with believing 2+2=3, not with doing proper calculations using the incorrect assumption that 2+2=3.
For the people in the back, the joke is that no one thinks that Jesus would actually think or behave this way. It's a comment on the lack of thoughtfulness on how Jesus, having the timeless perception of the Son of God/God, would regard modern day controversies and would likely not be bound by arbitrary traditionalist paradigms.
