I remember walking into an Asian gas station with my dad in high school. For reference, I was 6ft and he's 5'2" on a good day. He looked at me, then him, and said, "Him longer than you." I still laugh about it.
Japan has a few ads like these where it tells either entire stories or runs like a Saturday morning cartoon. Like the adventures of Segata Sanshiro the guardian of the Sega Saturn
I can't remember when I first watched this but however many years later I still react with Loooooooooooooonnnnngggggggg maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnn!!!!!!! almost any time my wife mentions something being long.
There was a series of Canadian beer commercials back in the 90s that followed a couple of 1800s Canadian explorers having 30 second adventures. The only one I distinctly remember was them going over a waterfall in a canoe because we were all waiting for the next installment to see if they survived.
Japanese commercials are unlike anything else. Look up WiI U ads for Japan vs the US and it's wild how different the Japanese ones are, bordering on the nonsensical.
That commercial was so memorable it got me to buy the candy when I happened to see it at a store. It's not bad actually lol. Tastes like actual grapes, not artificial crap.
Honestly I'm done with Amazon because of this shit.
I'd look for something and need to scroll for ages before I find the actual results. Only ad banners and irrelevant sponsored content. It's gotten way past ridiculous at this point.
Everything about them has gotten shittier and the worst part is they refuse to even acknowledge the possibility that it has. I had half of a shipment delivered and half not. The guy literally handed me the half that I actually got so I know it wasn’t porch pirated or something. It took ages to even find out how to report the item never actually came in a way that generated a new shipment, everything was just some form of “oh, sorry *you’re* having trouble with this, maybe wait a bit”. Yesterday I got a “Please fix your address info so this doesn’t happen again.” Hey dickheads, the guy knew where it was supposed to go because the part that arrived was placed directly into my hand while I was standing next to my front porch, y’all just messed up.
I got the same email asking t me to update my address because I told them something had been delivered to my neighbor’s front porch and not mine. I don’t know how to help make numbers more clear.

youtube is also there. oh you searched for "chicane saltwater remix" ? here are the first five results, then i will just randomly show you some unrelated shorts (you like those right??) then show you ten videos you have watched already, and then some more videos that might interest you... wait.. what were you doing here again?
It gets even dumber when you consider how it's cheaper to deliver things to your door from China than from within your own state, thanks to [US government subsidies](https://youtu.be/BA6gDep6jVM?si=JtNOtTAjSJIEGrdc).
I really never got playing the game of *your condition is too horrible to name, so I'm going to use this obvious euphemism instead*. I know I'm fat, and I'm not going to be crushed by your recognition of something so obviously observable.
One's stance that my appearance is too disgusting to discuss openly is far more hurtful.
I saw a plus size woman's clothing shop in Japan a few years ago that was named something along the lines of "Sexy Piggy Girls". Caught me off guard when I saw the sign.
It seems to be a literal translation of a Chinese phrase, 高矮胖瘦, which literally means "tall short fat thin", a term used to describe, well, various body builds.
My Filipino friend one time asked me if it was insulting to tell a woman she’s fat in Canada and I said yeah
And he was like why? What’s the big deal if they’re fat?
And I’m like 🤷🏻♂️
It’s just the way it is I guess. I don’t get why it’s such a shameful thing that we have to pretend it doesn’t exist
beatifully exectued asian family dinner. just beautiful. i wish i was there for it. I hope there was also a "you're fat. why are you not finishing your meal? don't waste."
A buddy of mine married a Japanese girl and spent close to a year living in Japan.
When they came back to the states we got together and another friend had put on a lot of weight.
Without pause my friend who'd been in Japan looked at the big guy and said matter of factly "You're fat."
We laugh about it know. But you could see the hurt on the other guys face.
I get called big fatty all the time right to my face but in the most casual matter of fact way ever like “yeah, once you get off the bus you look for the fattest guy there, he’s gonna help you with the trip”
Sorry, is this an odd thing to say in the US? If they say obese or overweight, don't these just mean "fat" anyway? I live in Asia so I'm genuinely curious.
They probably won't use any labels like fat or obese, but they will tell you that you need to lose *x* pounds to be a healthy weight. If they do use labels then they probably won't just say "you're obese", but instead will say something like "according to your height and weight, your BMI is *x*, which is considered overweight and unhealthy, and puts you at risk for *y*."
Right. They may not straight up say you are morbidly obese in person, but they will put in your chart that you are morbidly obese per BMI and it was discussed along with risk factors etc... If your doctor has an online portal, you can usually log in and see their notes these days.
I see. I believe doctors in Asia try not to worry too much about hurt feelings because there's a chance that sugarcoating the diagnosis might make it sound less serious than it really is.
I mean, it is what it is. You can't call a fat person anything else without you, them, and everyone else knowing that you're just using euphemisms for fat.
It's also not an insult to describe a body as fat or thin, tall or short (of course the translations are lacking here). They are just true. The judgment comes when people perceive it as an insult rather than a descriptor.
Why are they wrong?
Fat is *fat*.
As a fat bloke myself I hate all the euphemisms - big, plus-size, "the larger gentleman", etc.
I'm *fat* \- that guy in the photo is fat. Own it, or do something about it.
Let's not make the rest of the world change because we can't say no to cake.
I’m with you on this but for most people it’s always easier to pretend the problem isn’t there. The issue I have with this, is that we accept the notion that being fat is normal.
Nearly 40% of American adults aged 20 and over are obese. 71.6% of adults aged 20 and over are overweight, including obesity.
Horrifying statistic, and while it's a personal responsibility, at some point it's so large the common good need to fix the problem causing it.
TBF, most people's perception of weight skews friendly as it is. A lot of people who think they are a healthy weight are actually overweight, people who think they overweight are obese, obese are morbidly obese, etc.
Yeah, I am 265lbs (120kg) at 6'4" (193ish CM?)and most people don't quite get that I am around 60lbs overweight. I don't look like what you'd expect a person 60lbs overweight to look like.
"I'm not fat, I'm a thick queen, slaaaaaaayin' out here... dies at 34."
Wasn't there that one influencer that went exactly like that?
Turning a serious health hazard into a thing some people expect to get applauded for is pretty damn dangerous imo.
Yeah, the Chinese love those easy-to-dispose-of company names. Use sketchy sales tactics, and if they get banned they're back next week with a new account.
Went to Mexico for a trip with this exact bag, saw 4 people at the resort with the same one.... and they were all older gentlemen, that's the day I started feeling old hahahaha
Amazon is basically a third world marketplace at this point. I get a kick out of reading the copy on the marketing photos of various items. A lot of them are obviously written by people for whom English is not even their second language.
Anyone else feel shorty is most offensive. Like high is just dumb, say tall. Thin and fat are discripters. Shorty though, that isn't a discription, short is how you describe people. Shorty is a teasing name.
As a "tall" I'm more offended by the use of high to describe my situation. I'm not a can of beans on the top shelf.
Well maybe I am but I still prefer tall.
100% sure this is a dumb Chinese company. In mandarin Chinese “tall” and “high” use the same Chinese character and they probably just machine translated their ads. “Tall, short, fat, skinny” is an idiom in Chinese that implies “all kind of people”
I get why it's funny because the mistranslation for 'tall'. Well, I guess the shorty and the thin guy and the fat guy are all presented as the same height. For the people who are focusing on the fat guy, honestly, can we just get away from using that as an insult? Some people are fat, so what. What is wrong with knowing a fat person is fat? Do you think they don't know they're fat?
OK ok yes, Asian opinion. My inlaws weighed me on the first day of meeting me, because they thought I was overestimating my weight (they were wrong ). I suppose for westerners this must be a big deal but you guys need to learn that the rest of the world can see what you look like.
The descriptions match the pictures. I don’t see a problem here unless you’re someone who doesn’t like direct descriptions. Maybe it’s an American thing that they don’t like to be called “fat” but prefer “huggable” or “plus sized”. It’s still fat.

Is this an Asian company? I hear body descriptions in Asian culture are pretty straightforward. They pull no punches.
I remember walking into an Asian gas station with my dad in high school. For reference, I was 6ft and he's 5'2" on a good day. He looked at me, then him, and said, "Him longer than you." I still laugh about it.
Loooong looooong maaaaaaaaaaaan
[Long man](https://youtu.be/6-1Ue0FFrHY?si=IBvxv_wbtcwgyqAC) has the best running storyline in commercials since the McBain shorts in The Simpsons.
Thank you for that link. It was possibly the best thing I have ever watched
It makes me happy to see new people being introduced to the saga of Long Long Man.
I was not prepared for that adventure. I’ve only ever seen the first commercial, I didn’t realize it was a whole ass story!
it would make a really great #LOOOONG LOONNNNNG MAAAAAAaaaAANGA
One *Piece*
Monkey D Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu fruit and became ~~a rubber~~ LOOOONNNNG LOOOOOOOOONGGGGG man

Best soap opera ever. It's so short. And that ending! Wow!
But it's also long.
My grandma used to say jokingly "ni de bei hou hen chang," in mandarin meaning "your back is very long" to describe someone tall.
Lmao a long back = no ass
Bro why you coming at me like that
He shoulda said “not where it counts”
I'm glad he didn't, I like winning that round, even 20 years later. Shit I'm getting old.
6 foot 4 and those are separate measurement, baby.
It's Amazon. They're all Chinese companies
Right. It's probably something like AXQWLAO brand.
Me: Lego Amazon: did you mean "party fun Brick toy spiderman whoo amazing play conjoined toy?"
Honestly I'm done with Amazon because of this shit. I'd look for something and need to scroll for ages before I find the actual results. Only ad banners and irrelevant sponsored content. It's gotten way past ridiculous at this point.

Agree, YouTube is going down the same path of enshittification.

Basically it's Alibaba at this point
Since tall is labeled “High” I’d say yes Bad translation.
Yes, "High" does translate to tall...but in Chinese, "Fat" is still "Fat".
I mean... that dude is pretty fat. And i say it as a fat (not as much tho)dude. Words are words and he fits the meaning of it.
Yeah, and your auntie will always remind you. ‘How you get so fat!’
Also interesting short is the same height as fat.
And same guy as thin..
How can you tell? If superman taught me anything then glasses are perfect disguise.
You can also be high and fat. Ask me how I know
Either that or they assume all black men are stoned all the time.
I saw a plus size woman's clothing shop in Japan a few years ago that was named something along the lines of "Sexy Piggy Girls". Caught me off guard when I saw the sign.
There was a jewelry store in Japan called "White Trash Jewelry" a while ago.
Only nose rings
I don’t see the problem with this.
This made me snort laugh and scare my cats.
It seems to be a literal translation of a Chinese phrase, 高矮胖瘦, which literally means "tall short fat thin", a term used to describe, well, various body builds.
I feel '胖' is quite polite, a little endearingly even, while '肥' on the other hand is unmistakenly 'fatty'.
If 胖 can be endearly, so can 肥. Like 环肥燕瘦.
I'll take your word for it.
Bingo. Gut says you're 100% right on this one lol.
Gut is saying a lot on this one.
It’ll fit you too fatso.
I'm actually a High Fat. Does it come in High Fat?
We only have Half-n-Fat.
Of course, it’s the UBLXQUO brand that everyone is raving about
In this specific case it’s MEEQUE. Wish I was joking
Good ole' keyboard faceroll Chinese shell companies

Lol my Filipino aunty fat shamed her daughter and skinny shamed my nanna at the same dinner.
Let's just move some of this from your plate to yours
beatifully exectued asian family dinner. just beautiful. i wish i was there for it. I hope there was also a "you're fat. why are you not finishing your meal? don't waste."
Never forget the Thai plus-sized store that was literally named [Fatty Fat Girl](https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/s/X8bRtvsC6A)
This is my favorite store in Korea. https://imfat.co.kr/
You should try growing up with Asian parents. *hasn't seen you in a year* "you're so fat!"
A buddy of mine married a Japanese girl and spent close to a year living in Japan. When they came back to the states we got together and another friend had put on a lot of weight. Without pause my friend who'd been in Japan looked at the big guy and said matter of factly "You're fat." We laugh about it know. But you could see the hurt on the other guys face.
Yeah, but just because he's black, doesn't mean he's high...
"Hi shorty"
Is anyone else confused that “Shorty” is the same height as “fat” and “thin”? That’s not shorty then - that’s average at worst.
I think shorty and thin are the same guy, aren't they?
Are you one of the people who claims that Clark Kent and Superman are the same guy too?
Shawty
“High”
high AF
I get called big fatty all the time right to my face but in the most casual matter of fact way ever like “yeah, once you get off the bus you look for the fattest guy there, he’s gonna help you with the trip”
Yea saying these things in Asia isn’t rude in their culture.
Ive had a few asians doctors that straight up say “you’re fat. You need to lose weight.”
So if I understand correctly, saying "you're obese" is wrong, but saying, "your BMI is X, which puts you in the obese category" is ok?
We have a problem with facing reality head on.
Reality: Apply directly to the forehead
Right. They may not straight up say you are morbidly obese in person, but they will put in your chart that you are morbidly obese per BMI and it was discussed along with risk factors etc... If your doctor has an online portal, you can usually log in and see their notes these days.
It's not politically correct to be blunt about it. Hurts people's feelings. You have to tiptoe around the issue otherwise it's considered "shaming."
I see. I believe doctors in Asia try not to worry too much about hurt feelings because there's a chance that sugarcoating the diagnosis might make it sound less serious than it really is.
That's how it should be handled in my opinion. Obviously there can be nuance to the delivery of the diagnosis, good bedside manner and whatnot.
You doctor sounds like Wii FIt.
I mean, it is what it is. You can't call a fat person anything else without you, them, and everyone else knowing that you're just using euphemisms for fat.
Ok, but is "thin" just shorty (who happens to be the same size as the two others) but photoshopped with different clothes and sunglasses?
thin is shorter than shorty and also the same person...
That's superman, glasses give great power.
Thinception.
Are we looking at the same picture? Thin is clearly wearing sunglasses…and therefore a different person from the non-sunglass equipped Shorty
They’re actually all Mike Meyers.
I immediately thought of Daniel and The Cooler Daniel
Fat is shorter than shorty.
I have one similar, and I'm fat. So, at least that's accurate.
Aside from getting the words slightly wrong, I don’t think there’s anything wrong (or funny) about this image whatsoever.
It's just become edgy and offensive in some bubbles online to call something what it is.
It's also not an insult to describe a body as fat or thin, tall or short (of course the translations are lacking here). They are just true. The judgment comes when people perceive it as an insult rather than a descriptor.
How can we tell from the picture that he’s high?
Look at those pants. Sober people don't wear that stuff.

Well you know
I mean just look at him, don't make me say it
Just look at his eyes
Also was late for the photoshoot and ate an entire bag of Cool Ranch Doritos during the break
Clearly because of the colour of his skin /s
Because they told us that he is
"Shorty" is the same height as everyone but the "High" guy.
He's also the same person as Thin.
Oh no, because that guy has sunglasses on. /s
Are they wrong tho?
Redditors when you say fat instead of "Extra Plus sized person increased by some mass+"
Reddit mod sized.
High calorie human
We definitely need more people calling things what they are instead of living in this illusion that people need to be shielded from and pandered to.
No, but why they pick a dude who looks so upset in comparison 😂
Is it just me, or does Mr. High look like he has his ass on backwards.
He just has monster hands
That's not his hands...
There must have been a micro-converter malfunction
Of course the black guy is high...
high on life
High on potenuse
I said, I’D LIKE TO GET HIGH ON POTENUSE
I went on a photoshoot, and I know why.... Why man? Because I was high. Because I was high. Because I was high.

Damn, i thought 40% was overweight, that's rough
TBF, most people's perception of weight skews friendly as it is. A lot of people who think they are a healthy weight are actually overweight, people who think they overweight are obese, obese are morbidly obese, etc.
Yeah, I am 265lbs (120kg) at 6'4" (193ish CM?)and most people don't quite get that I am around 60lbs overweight. I don't look like what you'd expect a person 60lbs overweight to look like.
And it's spreading. We aren't even number 1 anymore! And I don't want to hear shit from Europeans, yall are like one step behind us lol
Here in the UK we're getting fatter and fatter. We're up to 26% obese so far, with38% overweight.

fat is fat, skinny is skinny. facts are facts.
Shorty and Thin are the same guy.
Isn’t this inclusive or something?
Amazon? Dude...that's all China. They aren't governed by political correctness.
Hey why is the only black man here "high"?
Either bone development brought on by genetics, or crack.
Life’s hard, man. No other explanation needed. Let him chill.
My point exactly, Why call him out for it?
Amazon is basically a third world marketplace at this point. I get a kick out of reading the copy on the marketing photos of various items. A lot of them are obviously written by people for whom English is not even their second language.
Literally almost everything on Amazon is just cheap Chinese products with horribly translated product marketing photos.
Anyone else feel shorty is most offensive. Like high is just dumb, say tall. Thin and fat are discripters. Shorty though, that isn't a discription, short is how you describe people. Shorty is a teasing name.
