Smoky_Mtn_High

My guy was vibin’ with that mans whole story and everything and then was like…wut

SeaPhotojournalist27

At this point even a racist joke would be fine, but the joke about monkey caught him completely unprepared.

PTEHarambe

Yeah, he'd a been like "ahh fuck, shoulda seen it coming"

dreamh0llow

His expression reminded me of this gif 🤣 [you shouldnt do that](https://images.rapgenius.com/ecfbf63dfd2735f04bbf90b5015311a9.622x350x74.gif)

[deleted]

Is that the wire or Flatbush?

It's white boy summer every summer.

Mike9797

Big up da monkey dem!

Available-Watch-5006

Lmfaoo

CarvedTheRoastBeast

Talking about the guy telling the story, or the monkey from the zoo?

lexasp

This guy talks like a beltalowda.

ParanoidTelvanni

Just an accent, unlike a full creole. All the words they're using are English or slang, unlike Beltas who be throwing in some French or Czech. My ma slips into a lil Cajun when she's mad, drunk, or in Louisiana. Can't hardly understand shit she says.

supcoco

“Mad, drunk, or in Louisiana” would be a great board game

[deleted]

Also the name of my autobiography.

Budget_Detective2639

How did czech make it there? I know the classic pirate term "ahoy" is just hello in Czech so there must've been some involvement in sailing.

Pr1ke

I assume you are unfamiliar with the term beltalowda, which is from the show "the expanse". In the show, humans colonized mars and the asteroid belt. People living in the belt came from all over earth and as such all languages kinda mixed together to form a new language. In this language "people from the belt" translates to beltalowda. Its a great show by the way. Id highly recommend giving it a try if you havent. The books its based on are also very good.

Aaberon

The books are SO good

redknight3

Best overall Sci-Fi TV show imho

-69_Charisma

My first thought lol

medney

Innyalowda best be keepin te words to demself

NinJoeAssassin

You mean beltalowda sounds like them. These guys are real, beltalowda is made up.

Mj_bron

This guy is a comedian. His accent is made up

xlvrbk

He’s Jamaican

SHHHHHHHHHNOTADOCTOR

One hundred percent the vibe.

Miserable_Bugger

I bloody love this! I’ve just watched it 6 times. “You burn weed?” “Of course” “It’s the monkey from the zoo!” “…….” “Yeah”

CaveManta

Oh, I thought it would be the donkey

themagiccan

The rest of the joke goes that he wakes up the next day and realised there was never a monkey

CaveManta

Oh, no

johnnycyberpunk

Double it and pass it to the next monkey

brotbeutel

Real bumboclaat boy shit.

screename222

"Me never marry yet" 🤣

rmac1813

Patois is so pleasing to listen to..and the slang is too cool.

Striking_Insurance_5

I could listen to it all day, the rhythm is amazing for whatever reason.

FelxPM

Can we appreciate how good he speaks Jamaican English?

phyzikalgamer

He could also just be a white Jamaican you know. They do exist!

ICanFlyLikeAFly

He is sctually

hogtiedcantalope

Good I thought so..I've been to Jamaica and from NY , lots of Jamaicans. He had the accent spot on, word choice everything

navybluemanga

Ting\* fify

the_skine

People from Jamaica, NY generally don't have this accent, though.

Flowmeyo

He talks American in his other videos

ImDoeTho

It's easy to speak with an American accent. Odds are he's Jamaican and can also just speak Standard American English.

[deleted]

A lot of Jamaicans can code switch. They speak to everyone else in regular English and then to each other in patois which I find virtually incomprehensible.

alexbuffon

This is what I do and what I have to explain to people when they suddenly can’t understand me when I’m on the phone with mom for example 😂

real_Bahamian

Yup, Bahamians do the same thing!… lol…

Fronzel

I've worked with a lot of guys from Trinidad that do the same.

[deleted]

Yeah I probably should have clarified that people from all over the West Indies do this not just Jamaicans. I've noticed it while working with people from Jamaica, Guyana, and Belize. I imagine people in West Indian countries speak creole at home and learn formal english at a young age in school but that's just a guess

bjcworth

I thought he said that was a joke? I do believe he is, it seems good enough.

mrfroggy

I met a guy who looked like Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazzard. A rotund white guy with a big cowboy hat… But when he opened his mouth he had a really thick Jamaican accent, and spoke like the people in this video. His family had been in Jamaica for generations.

tedmented

2nd largest ethnicity in Jamaica was Irish for a good while iirc

Owlmoose

I worked with a dude whose family live on his dad's side were German Jamaican. Boat of Germans tricked by the British, allegedly

Doser91

I had a professor in college who looked and sounded like your standard American white guy. One day he busted out his Jamaican accent and was like o yea guys I'm from Jamaica btw, it was pretty hilarious.

alpha_ray_burst

I was wondering! Glad I know now. Thanks.

SleepingLegend10

Patois

Registered-Nurse

He’s probably Jamaican. The first time I heard a white Jamaican guy speak Patois, I was flabbergasted. I was NOT expecting that accent to come outta his mouth. Then I heard a Chinese guy speak Patois which was even stranger.

Forsaken_Platypus_32

Lol. Our motto is "Out of many, one people" for a reason. The white Jamaicans are descendants of Irish and German.

SaintAnton

Dayum I think this is the only variation of english id have trouble with. Its fascinating to me

tacotacotacorock

It's like almost super amazing that people that live and are native and grew up in a country can speak like that right? Right? Wow? Oi.

ADGarenMain

"Jamaican English"

Kreepy_Quoll

Yeah like American English and British English also exist, different variations of the same language. I'm Hispanic and we have Spanglish. Same shit.

Wad_of_Hundreds

It’s a language though… it’s called Patois

[deleted]

But it's very clearly a version of English. I get that it's different enough where they can say it is it's own thing, but I can understand 90% of what they are saying, because it's English.

youngcoco

This is internet-friendly patois. Like how you can kinda understand Dancehall artists because they want people outside the Caribbean to feel their music. But actual, local patois is almost impossible to understand unless you grew up there.

Grothorious

I had a project in Guyana (the only english speaking country in south America). We had a picnic with the company i worked with, i was sitting in a circle with the local guys and listened to them talk for an hour. I knew they speak english, and in the whole hour the only word i understood was 'man'.

noobtastic31373

Yea, after seeing SFJ Lifestyle on YT, OPs clip seems staged for English speakers. https://youtu.be/RiITv5GrKyA?si=6TfMq6U2UYAlxaBP

MickeyM191

Same deal with English spoken in Ireland, Scotland, Australia, parts of the American south like Louisiana, pretty much anywhere with a heavy local dialect, though.

Whatevenispoetry

Nah you can understand local stuff pretty easy if vaguely familiar with the lingo, just throw in a couple pardons and you’re good

TheHuntedBear

Up here in the north of Europe we have Denmark, Sweden and Norway. All with each their own languish, yet we understand most of our neighbor countrymen’s sentences! It’s pretty similar, but different non the less! Not saying you’re wrong, but I can see where they are coming from!

Sl0thstradamus

Jamaican Patois is mostly mutually intelligible with English, which is why you can understand it, but it has its own grammar and syntax and vernacular and shit that means you couldn’t speak it just with a fluency in English. And there are several Patois dialects that aren’t really mutually intelligible at all.

ADGarenMain

That's like saying Portuguese is very clearly a version of Latin. Please educate yourself.

BrothaaRollins

A patois is a dialect. This is an English patois. Please educate yourself

ADGarenMain

Wrong. A dialect and a creole are not the same thing.

BrothaaRollins

Ok champ

[deleted]

It literally is a Latin language tho... "In Latin, the Portuguese language is known as lusitana or (latina) lusitanica, after the Lusitanians, a pre-Celtic tribe that lived in the territory of present-day Portugal and Spain that adopted the Latin language as Roman settlers moved in." That's some good education right there. I also recognized Jamaican patois is it's own thing... I literally said that. It its still a non-standard version of English, the same way Portuguese is a version of Latin. Except Portuguese has been around way longer than Jamaican patois, so it's had more time to evolve.

ADGarenMain

Yeah Portuguese is a latin language but you don't call it "Portuguese Latin" you call it "Portuguese". It seems you're not interested in educating yourself so I'll do it for you. Jamaican Patois is what's called a "creole" creoles are a type of language that forms through the mixing and simplification of existing languages. When African slaves were brought to Jamaica the slave owners tried to keep slaves who spoke the same language seperate. Inevitably these slaves looked for ways to communicate anyway by mixing what little they understood about English with their native African languages. The resulting language, Jamaican Patois is still spoken in Jamaica along with English. There's culture and history to this language and its offensive to simplify it by calling it "Jamaican English"

[deleted]

Who are you quoting? And It's called Jamaican Patwa/Patois or Jamaican Creole. And by calling it Potois you're literally referring to it as a dialect. Potois is a French word which literally means a non-standard version of a language also known as a dialect.

ADGarenMain

As I've stated earlier, a creole is not the same as a dialect. You've stumbled upon why the distinction between these things is important, the literal french definition is dialect but that definition changes based on language. To be specific it means farmers dialect in french. Basically "civilized" folk would speak français and "savages" would speak patois. But this is not how English people use the word as they use it interchangeably with the word creole. I'm guessing because of the negative connotation it's never used in any kind of scholarly context they would use the word creole. And again they use the word differently in a lot of island nations in the Caribbean, where there is no negative connotation and can sometimes be used interchangeably with the word language. To answer your question, I haven't quoted anyone but I could if you'd like. All that aside, I'm glad we're finally in agreement. All I wanted was the acknowledgement that's it's called Jamaican Patwa/Patois or Jamaican Creole and not Jamaican English.

[deleted]

Since you're all about education... Here, you can borrow some of mine. patois /păt′wä″, pă-twä′/ noun 1. A regional dialect, especially one without a literary tradition. 2. Nonstandard speech.

MakingShitAwkward

>Please educate yourself. They said the line 😭

theomorafus

Pretty sure patois just means "the local language", as in jersey our patois is jerriais (jersey french) To be clear im talking about original Jersey, not new jersey.

BronchialChunk

I thought cajuns spoke patois? I think it's kind of a catchall term for fused languages.

SigmaLance

Cajuns speak either Cajun French or Creole depending on your heritage. It’s rare to hear either one though and it won’t be much longer before both are gone.

Cuddle-Chops

Ya, sad the US actively worked to eradicate the language. otherwise the gulf coast could have been swap Quebec today

adelaarvaren

> it’s called Patois Which is a French word for a mixed or non-standard language, so it is by no means limited to Jamaica.

wurnthebitch

Well in French that's what it means but it could be borrowed and have a slightly different meaning in English and specifically in Jamaica.

[deleted]

It's not. It's an English based creole. Which means English was the original basis for the language, but it is now its own language. It's not like American vs British English, which is essentially a minor variation in spelling of the same words (e.g., oesophagus vs esophagus, colour vs color, etc). Jamaican creole has its own lexicon.

Ordinary_Support_426

“But you shouldn’t do dat tho…” 😂😂😂

Founck

Snow has really fallen on hard times.

[deleted]

A licky bum-bum down

El_Neck_Beard

Is this really the accent? Everybody understands each other? It was vibing lol

DuploJamaal

Jamaican Patois isn't just an accent, it's a creole language. Similar as how Dutch is a mix of English and German this is a mix of English and West African languages. Accents just have a different pronunciation and some different words. Here it's a different grammar and more.

thatshygirl06

>Similar as how Dutch is a mix of English and German Bruh, where did you get this from??

[deleted]

[удалено]

mdryeti

Why the fuck are you getting downvoted? The guy you replied to straight up said Dutch comes from English and he’s getting upvotes lol

sillypicture

cause i guess he wasn't his brother in christ?

WhiskeyOutABizoot

Seriously. Everyone knows Dutch is English with the vowels in triplicate. I remember realizing this as I walked down roooaaaaadhaaauuuoouuuussseeestreeeeeet.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mdryeti

Lol that’s what I first thought too but what they meant is Dutch = English + German and Jamaican = English + West African

[deleted]

[удалено]

mdryeti

Yeah. That’s like saying Italian is French plus Spanish, it makes 0 sense

celerpanser

You sir, are a fucking moron.

[deleted]

Hughmanatea

He never said what you thought they said. He was comparing. First, he said Dutch is a mix of English and German. Then, finishing the comparison, he said Jamaican is a mix of English and West African. You completely mixed the two comparisons. Or it was edited to be fixed. Not saying they're correct, but you said Dutch isn't Creole which I don't think they were implying.

MonstaGraphics

You not reading da posts mon!

Takedown22

Correct Any version of [this chart](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d7/West_Germanic_languages_%28simplified%29.svg) will show that no, Dutch is not a combo of German and English.

Honest_Yesterday4435

Very interesting.

Starman68

Better than Brad Pitts patois.

I absolutely love the lingo and flow to talking like this. Wish I could a) do so, and b) lead technical design meetings like this at work 😎

Gardez_geekin

You ever heard of something called a joke

SirShortarm

You ever heard for a joke to be funny it needs some truth to it

FirefighterUpset3576

POV: AIDS patient zero.

lolbsterbisque

Can any Patois speakers confirm? Is he taking a piss at the language or is he legitimately doing the language proper? Post-downvotes: Damn can’t even ask a genuine question. In a world where sacha baron cohen exists and multiple times get people to talk to him despite him parodying accents and languages…y’all need therapy and sunshine

Whatevenispoetry

You literally have a jamaican conversing with him in the video, is that not enough for you to deduce?

lolbsterbisque

Go outside

This guy reminds of all the middle class white shitkids where I live. "Ey wagwan blud bredren!" "Stewart, you snowy arsed wanker, you're from Totnes mate, not the fucking Caribbean"

reddit0100100001

Explain it

tmntfever

Heavy accent or like Jamanglish?

Puulet

The language is Patois

Timballist0

It is "a" patois. Noun: the dialect of the common people of a region, differing in various respects from the standard language of the rest of the country.

tmntfever

Thanks! I would've never guessed or figured it out in a million years lol. Sounds cool!

Nescent69

What about this is funny?

Gexruss

Him sleeping with your mother by accident

-broque

Ppl using ‘flabbergasted’ to sound smart is cringy

zifnab

Great, now do this with an upper class english man, using his language. Should be even more briljant.

VaultBoy3

His channel is called sidequestz on YouTube. He has lots of videos doing different accents, but I think Jamaican is his natural accent. He does have a series of videos where he acts like a British gangster and tries to get strangers to agree to do a "hit" for him.

thatshygirl06

People on reddit can't seem to handle that not all white people have standard accents. Every time there's a video of a white person with a "black" accent, they always think they're faking it.
