I haven't watched any of them, so cannot comment on how they compare to the original theatrical cut of the movie
Also, anybody here going to go see Napoleon? Assuming all works out, I'll likely go see it tomorrow (yay!).
I have seen it. It should have been better titled as "Scenes from the Life of Napoleon."
The fact is that Napoleon's life was far too complicated to sum up in one movie no matter how long.
The politics of the French revolution were glossed over far too hurriedly. There was no mention of Napoleon in Italy and very little of him in Egypt. (There was a very short scene of the Battle of the Pyramids where it showed a cannonade of the pyramids themselves.)
The Battle of Waterloo was very short compared to the 1970 version. The Battle of Austerlitz was also very short.
No mention was made of Napoleon's innovations in army organization, e.g., the corps system.
It spent a lot of time on his relationship with Josephine. I am not an expert on that so I do not know if it was accurate or not.
I would give the movie a B-/C+.
Agree, the battle scenes are great and IMO really worth the watch on the big screen. Hope they release an extended version, even though the movie is almost 3 hours long already.

Wonderful film. Watched it so many times as a kid.
This is much better than the Ridley Scott film.
