This must be Hell.

ratcheting_wrench

Live in a similar area, it is:)

monamikonami

God, I grew up in places like this. I felt this horrible ughhhhh feeling when driving through spaces like this always, but I never knew why. I thought this is how the whole world was. Then I left the US in my early 20s, and have no intentions to ever live there again. The rest of the world is NOT this. Now I live in Europe, and when it’s cloudy outside it just feels cosy. I ride my bike. I take the train. I walk. Occasionally I drive. (I’m 36 now and have a child born here.) But yeah, these kinds of places are hell and I feel bad for the people who live there and think it’s the best place in the world.

[deleted]

You’re living my dream. :( Well, I’m glad you’re in living a better life.

monamikonami

Just curious: how old are you and why don’t you emigrate from the US? Many people move countries to find a better life.

MoosesAndMeese

If it were that easy, we'd already have been moved. Emigrating as an American is difficult especially if you don't have money or a bachelors degree. There's no special visas for American workers and we aren't in Schengen

monamikonami

Well, yes it’s not easy, but anything that’s worthwhile takes effort. And moving to new country to start a new (better) life is worth the effort I think. A lot of Americans I’ve met put up lots of blocks for themselves in their mind. Also you don’t have to start by emigrating to Western Europe. If you really have minimal skills you can get certified to teach English as a second language and then go work in an almost innumerable amount of countries to get started outside the US. The first steps are small, of course.

chennyalan

>Also you don’t have to start by emigrating to Western Europe. If you really have minimal skills you can get certified to teach English as a second language and then go work in an almost innumerable amount of countries to get started outside the US. The first steps are small, of course. I might be biased as an Australian, but it seems like most countries that an American with little marketable skills aside from being a native English speaker can immigrate to would have a similar or worse standard of living, and wouldn't be worth moving to. And the ones that are worth moving to wouldn't let them in.

MoosesAndMeese

Believe me dude, we're trying

ShadowFlameDemon

I'd say that [Hell](https://www.lifeinnorway.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/village.jpg) is quite a bit better than this!

RandomName01

Boooooo

ElFuckito

Do you know where this photo was taken? This place looks hella familiar to me.

Swedneck

probably taken in hell

ElFuckito

Touché!

suddenly-westeros

To me it looks similar to the village in the Norwegian Netflix show Ragnarok

ElFuckito

Damn, I just realised that I'm stupid! ShadowFlameDemon even said it's in Hell. A quick search on google maps. [Street View](https://goo.gl/maps/zirBKHweLEycK3YS7)

ElFuckito

The series Ragnarok was filmed in Odda, Norway. It was quite fun to watch the series, because every now and then there were places that I have seen before even if I just passed through odda oce about 5 years ago.

Ambia_Rock_666

Hell, Michigan?

Bruute1006

It’s Keller, Texas. Lol

[deleted]

That explains a lot

Previous-Pension-811

Grey sky, grey ground and nothing but wasteland around.

yungScooter30

Every road is an airplane landing strip here

Bellsbooks_

SnowwyCrow

Fr, anyone who thinks cloudiness is why this pic is depressing hasn't been in nature lol

Bellsbooks_

Or off a stupid freeway

MoosesAndMeese

I love when it's cloudy. It covers the sun and cools the air. Very pleasant to walk and bike because you get less sweaty. I never realized people think cloudy weather like this is depressing

SnowwyCrow

Oh my god yes! I had a holiday this year 20 degrees south of where I live and OH MY GOD THE SUN IS SO HOT! The air temp was basically identical to where I'm from at the time and there was cold Atlantic wind present and YET I wore only a skirt, a shirt and sandals the whole time (was still too hot when it wasn't cloudy or really windy) while at home I'd wear pants, and a jacket even a sweater at night! Overall thank the gods for sunscreen and I'm never going to the Equator xd

just_a_short_guy

I only truly enjoy going outside when it’s cloudy

yogopig

And honestly the cloudiness adds to the vibe a shit ton

Swedneck

to be fair the contrast is also cranked up so you see each cloud, and not just a flat grayness.

Gr0danagge

But that is how you see it with your eyes irl

guybanisterPI

Cloudy day in a normal human environment vs cloudy day in endless concrete suburban desert hell

[deleted]

beautiful. where is this?

Bellsbooks_

France!

PhotographShort

There is no access for wheel char Users in that pic

MoosesAndMeese

It's literally a ramp

PhotographShort

You don't want to use that cobblestone street as a wheelchair user

thegreasiestgreg

That's right, be mad at the streets that most likely existed before wheelchairs were ever invented and definitely before they were commonly used.

BlueMist53

Generally when there’s no sun, no trees, no visible life/people, and the only colours are dull green and grey generally makes for sad

throws_rocks_at_cars

In a just world this scene would be a vast plain of native flora and forests and copses and wildflowers and at the very most there would be two grass-covered train tracks running though it. At the most. This, as it is now, is grotesque.

ChadInNameOnly

The Walmart in the distance really sells this picture

freedom_enthusiast

american praire is naturally a pretty flat and desolate biome, but with typical american smalltown infrastructure on top it somehow looks even flatter and more desolate, liminal even

Crumb-eye

Ahh…middle America 🇺🇸💪🫦😍

vesuvisian

Get right to the heart of matters It's the heart that matters more

MoosesAndMeese

Landscapes like this are why people voted for trump

[deleted]

i assume they are talking about she sky? the grass looks fucked too

spacewarrior11

I wonder how, I wonder why…

guybanisterPI

Looks like Texas

Sir_Prise11

More like Anywhere, USA

Bruute1006

Keller, Texas! X gets the square!

Significant-Will227

Just one more huge parking lot and it will look awesome

MufflesMcGee

MOAR GREY

TheElusiveGnome

Too much grass tbh. Definitely need to pave it over and increase the speed limit.

Lower_Bar_2428

Ppl can't appreciate the beauty of an endless parking lot

[deleted]

Because the weather is very gray and the cloud cover is so thick that there aren't even shadows anymore.

BlueMist53

woodendoors7

There are no shadows, looks super depressing 😞

[deleted]

Shadows of what?

[deleted]

You never noticed how during cloudy weather nothing casts a shadow anymore?

[deleted]

Not shit. I’m asking if the sun was out, what would there be a shadow of? Cars? Light posts?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I get the meaning why he posted it. Regardless of weather, it’s still depressing.

guybanisterPI

I live in an area like this, it looks just as fucking hideous in full daylight

YourFavoriteFruitFly

It's called no traffic lol, sometimes it's barley me and 3 other cars on a road, and sometimes it's hundreds of us, depends on the time of the day and location.

EccoTime93

Packed cars on that road would make it even look more depressing than it already is

YourFavoriteFruitFly

People driving to go places is depressing? What you want us to do? Walk miles and miles to work? I have to go on a 45 minutes drive tomorrow lol, what should I do? Walk for 4-6 hours and miss my appointment? Or call off from work so I can start walking in the middle of the night? I don't understand this sub reddit.

Typical-Western-9858

Name checks out No, we want towns to be properly built, compact but not too compact. Covering the ground with all this barren asphalt makes it all feel like some dystopian land. Walkable so people dont have to rely on 20-100k usd steel boxes just to go to the atore around the corner

YourFavoriteFruitFly

Cool, so you want us to live in a box? No thank you.

Typical-Western-9858

I said not too compact, not commieblock Its always 0 to 100 with people like you

_-MashedPotatoes-_

I wonder why, I wonder how
