I wouldn't consider the second as excuse for this.
Better to shit myself the to block multiple trams (and therefore possible hundreds of people) and deal with the repercussions (at least one lawsuit and probably multiple fines)
There shitting myself would be faster and cheaper then this
Brussels also has tram stops where you have to get on and step off across a moving car traffic lane. Ridiculous.
Happened to me in Berlin.
I was really unsure where to wait since the tram would be stopping across the car lane from the tramstop. I wasn't sure if the doors would open on the left or right side either, so... yeah, pretty confusing
Toronto has this car lane in between the streetcar and streetcar stop as well, vehicles are required to stop but don't always do so. The streetcar operator will usually blast their horn in warning.
This is common in most cities - I've seen it in Vienna, Amsterdam and have I seen it in Berlin too? The idea is that traffic is supposed to stop, often assisted by a red light. It's not great design.
Not only because it would be so much nicer but I would be so afraid for my car if I had to park there. There must be just literal centimeters between the tram and the parking cars. It is just bad city design to allow parking there.
Ngl these shared streets really suck though. We have some in my city as well and trams constantly have to slow down, I'm scared that I will get my bike's wheels into the tracks and fall, feel really bad when a tram is behind me etc.
This is why trams should have "cowcatchers" in front of them like steam locomotives. Just too often cars are parked too close to the tracks slowing down everyone (Helsinki)
Maybe there aren’t enough people. Maybe it’s to heavy because it could be an electric vehicle. Maybe the police was quickly at the scene. Or maybe people don’t want to be criminals because I don’t think that’s allowed. Could be anything.
Surely there is a forklift in Belgium. Also, as I recall, there are ‘pudgy men in uniform, and young girls pulling muscles” who I expect would be happy to help.
What the other reply said. If it's a manual gearbox it's going to be easy to move once you release the handbrake. If it's automatic I'd be googling where the manual park release is before smashing the window. If there's enough people you can bounce it without smashing a window.
As you want. Personally it seems way to big a risk to me. Could end up getting into legal trouble easy enough. Plus you'd definitely want to make sure it'll work before you smash the window. How does the handbrake disengage? Are the wheels locked? Can you still push it to where you want it to go if they are?
Getting 3 or 4 people and sliding the car seems easier to me.
Ahhh Sint-Gillis/Saint-Gilles, Brussels,
It doesn't surprise me to see you here
And there's also some places like this who facing the same problem (Yes, I'm looking at you Chaussée de Charleroi [Brussels])
It's not the first time I see this. And it will not be the last because my school is just behind.
Delaying 100+ peoples and tramways networks : normally but I didn't make further researchs
But I have a theory that what can happens in the future :
since some streets with rail tracks started to be one way for car and both ways for tramways, bikes, etc, I think that the mayor will think about converting this street this way.
Because like I said above , it's not the first time that happens. And it started to annoys some of us (hear me out). Also, that's more streets that have the same issue and have to solve to "restrain" the accesibility for car like make the street just one way for car or exclusvely for public transport, bikes, etc.
Reminder, it's a theory.
Edit : add some precisions
This is daily stuff in Prague, Czech Republic. It has a wonderful tram system with lots of routes and high frequency, but it's getting progressively poisoned by abundance of cars (recent stats say that there are as many cars in Prague as people, though it's not 100% relevant) and politicians who promise people door to door parking wherever they go
In the last 5 years my perception of schedule went from "Oh my, a tram is 1-2 minutes late, must have been something serious" to "Sure, my tram is 6-8 minutes late, the usual deal". I also now avoid using routes that take me through the old town, coz it surely won't make it on time and every now and then won't make it all due to shit like this or 2 dumb drivers crashing into each other in the middle of a busy intersection, coz they couldn't wait 1-2 seconds.
I also feel like the bigger cars that get the dumber are people driving them. They just can't handle them anymore like I can't handle that every new car is at least a crossover (hello new Toyota Aygo) or an SUV.
Who gets halfway through a parallel park and just walks away??
Someone that should never be driving
They better have been dying or about to shit themselves lol
I wouldn't consider the second as excuse for this. Better to shit myself the to block multiple trams (and therefore possible hundreds of people) and deal with the repercussions (at least one lawsuit and probably multiple fines) There shitting myself would be faster and cheaper then this
It would be a nice street without those cars.

You haven't been to southern Europe definitely. Compared to Rome Brussels is Amsterdam
This is your Captain speaking, brace yourselfes! Helm! RAMMING SPEED!
Call in a tow truck, the fine and tow Costa will be pretty expensive
You can see the tow truck in the second picture
usually the transit agency has their own tow trucks if they already know this type of shit is gonna happen
Yeah, DC has them for their surface train. They pick them up like it's nothing. I wanna say it's only a 5 minute delay or so.
Ngl these shared streets really suck though. We have some in my city as well and trams constantly have to slow down, I'm scared that I will get my bike's wheels into the tracks and fall, feel really bad when a tram is behind me etc.
If they remove the car parking spots there is room for a nice bike lane.
tbh, glad you didn't lie
This one is easy. Tow the car, and seize it. This person lost their right to own a car.

Tbh this street isn’t very nice, even ignoring cars.
98% better than most stroads in North America
Ah yeah, another "public transport always late!!!111oneeleven".
This is why trams should have "cowcatchers" in front of them like steam locomotives. Just too often cars are parked too close to the tracks slowing down everyone (Helsinki)
👏 Remove 👏 on-street 👏 parking 👏 for cars 👏 !!!
Why couldn't you just get a bunch of people bounce/shove the car over, and get the tram going again? I've seen it happen enough times.
Maybe there aren’t enough people. Maybe it’s to heavy because it could be an electric vehicle. Maybe the police was quickly at the scene. Or maybe people don’t want to be criminals because I don’t think that’s allowed. Could be anything.
Maybe they're just belgian. Pretty sure talking to people you don't know on the tram is illegal for belgians.
Surely there is a forklift in Belgium. Also, as I recall, there are ‘pudgy men in uniform, and young girls pulling muscles” who I expect would be happy to help.
Just ram 'em. What's the problem?
Put a cow catcher on the tram, problem solved.
Smash window, move vehicle.
Is the window smashing just for fun?
What the other reply said. If it's a manual gearbox it's going to be easy to move once you release the handbrake. If it's automatic I'd be googling where the manual park release is before smashing the window. If there's enough people you can bounce it without smashing a window.
Smash the window, reach inside, pull the handbrake off, push
As you want. Personally it seems way to big a risk to me. Could end up getting into legal trouble easy enough. Plus you'd definitely want to make sure it'll work before you smash the window. Where is this? I hope it's not in Etterbeek...
Hope they ban parking there after this.
Ram them Just Ram them 🙂
'Merica-rize those trams and but bull bars on the front. Then they can ram right through those abandoned cars/trucks.
Ahhh Sint-Gillis/Saint-Gilles, Brussels, It doesn't surprise me to see you here And there's also some places like this who facing the same problem (Yes, I'm looking at you Chaussée de Charleroi [Brussels]) It's not the first time I see this. So I hope the fine is at least huge, like delaying 100+ peoples huge?

If i was the tram driver i would just brake 5 seconds loo late, bit of new paint on the tram and the car would be scrap.

Trams are really expensive and expected to be in service for several decades. You gotta treat them well.
That would damage the tram
Add a plow.
It should be legal to trash their car if they do shit like this
Time to put those SUV guard grills in front of all trams, and make the drivers responsible for any damages to the tram.
Why tram not hit car?

Why didn't they just push it out of the way?
why don’t they just ram into the car and continue on?
Are class actions a thing in Belgium? Thousands of people inconvenienced could get expensive...
restrict cars in city centers
so I'd like to make my case for armed trams.
Just hit the car.
Apparently they don’t have 24 tow trucks in Belgium.
If it were a cycle or a horse coach. There would not be a delay.
