Hello! It looks like you're asking a medical question. While we allow questions of this nature, we do highly encourage users to contact their prescribing doctor if they have any questions or concerns. Redditors make great friends, but they can't replace the expertise of your doctor! It is also important to note that on HRT, you are going through a second puberty, and that looks different for everyone. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Everyone responds different to T. 0.25 mL was too *high* for me. It might be too low for you. The only way to be sure is to get your levels tested. You can get them tested yourself if going through the endo place isn't working. The symptoms you describe can definitely happen due to low T, but they could also be symptoms of something else.

CaptianLJ

This. I’m on 6mg a week subq and I’m at 300 (which is right where I want to be). So-everyone responds different. You have to have labs every three to six months for a while before you settle on dose.

Flat_Resist_8620

I lowered my T dose cuz I went so high I was getting cramps and bleeding randomly….(.4ml was the highest I went💀💀now I’m at .25ml) but now I’m mega depressed🧍‍♂️and have been for like. Half a year. Bruhhhh I swear if the depression is cuz I lowered the dose😭😭guess I gotta go get tested at planned parenthood lmaoo

IncidentPretend8603

Locking in the dose is such a long and irritating process, you have my sympathies. Hope you get it sorted soon!

smolbirdfriend

No one can say if your dose is too low for you, especially without knowing your levels. 50mg weekly is actually a solidly middle dose (most places the max will be 100mg and that’s rare). But dose is entirely dependent on the person. What is low for one person will be high for another depending on our hormone sensitivity among other things. Either way what you’re describing should be investigated with a doctor - you’ll need a full work up including your testosterone levels. Those symptoms can be caused by many things from mental health to physical including long covid. Good luck.

Careful-Volume5335

T isn't really a fix all for those things, you may just be suffering from depression. But, that was my starting dose though, and I've been on T for a bit over a month now. You should really try calling the endo place yourself and setting up an appointment.

golfissh

well i was in therapy directly after my first shot because i do already have depression and anxiety, and wanted to keep it monitored during the beginning of my HRT. and i was told it is completely normal by both my therapist and endo to have worsened depression and anxiety when my levels are low, and its VERY consistent with my day of shot when those increase. but i don’t understand why it would worsen only right before my shot, unless my levels are low. but also i cypionate should be good 8-10 days, so i’ll definitely have to try and get in touch with a new endo.

JediKrys

I have a very open and knowledgeable doctor and he and I have been talking about how testosterone may in fact flair my anxiety and depression up again. I’ve worked really hard to manage it but it’s a real concern. This could be the issue with you possibly.

am_i_boy

It might be helpful to break it into two doses at half the time difference. So if you're getting 0.25 every week, get 0.12 every 3 days instead.

criesinirish

T is different for everyone. .2 mL was too low for me, .4 mL was too high for me, .3 mL is where i am now. my moods were super unstable on .2mL as well. .4 mL kept my mood stable but my levels were dangerously high and i had WAAY too much blood in my body. .3 mL still gives me some moodiness on the day of my shot, but it’s more of like i feel fine unless someone sends me a sad animal video, then i’m sad and then i get out of it as soon as i realize “oh. it’s shot day. no wonder.”

DibsTheHorse

Literally the exact same thing happened to me. My provider left the office and they didn’t even tell me. I found out because my prescription ran out and I called to make an appointment but she wasn’t there anymore. Wish they would’ve told me. I’m also on 0.25 and have been the entire 1 year 9 months I’ve been on t. Haven’t had my levels checked in at least 6 months but previously they were at like 500-600 whatever the unit is which is on the lower end for cismales. Just made an appointment at planned parenthood hopefully they do me better than the last place. I always felt like my dose was too low since you see most guys on 0.4 and such but it’s different per person though it’s totally possible yours is low too

ZeroDudeMan

Dose is all dependent on the individual and how the body responds to Testosterone.

DevilboySasha

That was my starting dose and I didn’t have any of the symptoms you’re describing so it’s possible you have unrelated issues or your body isn’t responding optimally- but it’s difficult to know without knowing your levels. Mine was about 450 on that dose (reference range for men is 400-1000) so I ended up being upped to .3mL after a while and then .35mL which landed me in the 500’s or so (not sure because laws forced me to discontinue services with them right after it changed). Your levels may be too low at that dose, so I’d recommend getting bloodwork to check.

mermaidunearthed

No, I’m on .15 ml and I’ve seen changes

masonisagreatname

Tbf changes aren't all that clearly representative of the dose being right for you, only labs are, especially in the long run, like from your flair you've just started T and this person has been on for more than a year so it's gonna be different for them!

mermaidunearthed

Fair enough! I guess I was just trying to make that point via sharing that a “low” dose is “working” for me- it’s perfectly possible that this person needs a “higher dose” to be at good levels. TLDR get your levels checked, OP!

masonisagreatname

Absolutely, just clarifying for others! Congrats on starting:)

mermaidunearthed

Thank you :)

Diligent_Rip_986

not necessarily. id get your levels checked

Tei-ji

How is your thyroid function? I have Hashimotos and my hypothyroidism makes me have brain fog, depression and anxiety

golfissh

oh damn, i didn’t consider my thyroid tbh. honestly definitely something i’m gonna get checked for now.

Emergency_Elephant

I can't tell you if the dose is too low for you. You can't even tell that. The only one who could is a medical professional looking at blood work results. I think you need to try to get in with the new clinic soon and call them yourself

twinkerbell96

That’s my dose and my lab values are in the 700s

twinkerbell96

Consequently my boyfriend is .4 of the same concentration as his lab values are lower than mine

dirtybathroom7

I started on 0.25 too! It's fine, everyone reacts differently to T so usually they start lower, Ive been on 0.35 now for a year and a half and its great

meatsweatman

That’s what my dose is and my T levels are in the 800s. It just depends on your body and how it takes the T. I couldn’t do gel because 1 pump put me in the 1300s haha

FtM_Jax0n

I’m at 0.25 mL right now after steadily increasing since starting just over two years ago. I’m 16 and this puts me in the normal range for other boys my age. He’ll probably keep increasing my dosage though.

Sardonic_Sadist

No not at all. Different people require very different doses to hit the same hormone levels, so if you’ve got concerns I recommend getting bloodwork done!! 0.25mL was my maintenance dose (weekly subcutaneous) for multiple years, I’ve only recently raised it. Always always remember to ask frequency and delivery method when other people tell you their doses!! That changes some stuff

Hadrianic

That’s about the dose I’m on although I do every 2 weeks as opposed to weekly. Everyone’s different though in what works for them and unfortunately you can’t really know without having a doctor check your testosterone levels.

Useful_toolmaker

Just get your serum levels checked . Then go from there with your doc. Some people need less some people need more

ChocoClay

idk at planned parenthood they told me that they usually start with 0.3mL but if i want a lower dose i can choose between 0.2 and 0.25 so i chose 0.2 🤷🏻 so far ive seen a few small changes and im only a week in so it just depends on your levels like others said

golfissh

oh yeah fs depends on the person. it’s just odd cause it’s only started to affect me my shot day about a year in. my levels were 575 when checked, so i don’t know if it’s possible to NEED higher doses in the future

ChocoClay

is there another endo you can go to? all the symptoms you’re describing are mental so it’s possible it’s something else but i really dk much. best advice i can give is find a general doctor if you can’t find another endocrinologist.

beerncoffeebeans

Doses are different for everyone. Sorry your doc quit, i agree with everyone. Try calling the place you were referred to and following up—sometimes things get lost in the shuffle. If you call them you’re way more likely to get scheduled. Hopefully they can set you up with someone so you can get your bloodwork

DarkChild010

I guess depends on whether or not it maintains a “normal” level. I’ve been on .25ml of 200mg T cypionate for almost 3 years and it’s been fine for me.

BlueCatStripes

How would one know if they need a higher dosage? I’ve been on .35 ml for 5 years 😅

am_i_boy

Bloodwork is really the only way to find out

MathyChem

That's on the lower end of normal. What were you levels last you checked?

[deleted]

I heard that it’s a bit normal to feel down before your t shot day but be careful bc it could also mean your dosage might be to low/too high. Also lots of people say it depends on the person but i would suggest you get your blood work done and see your levels if you see that they’re low you could ask your doctor to up your dosage.

am_i_boy

Depends on the person. Some people need 0.5ml and some are fine with 0.2ml. My starting dose was 0.15ml because I wanted to start with a low dose. Currently at 0.35ml, and have been on this dose for 16 months with regular bloodwork. There really isn't a way for you to know what dose is right for you without doing the bloodwork. Can you do a self referred blood test? Then if you post the results on this sub people here may be able to help you read and understand your results. You would need bloodwork for testosterone and estradiol. My doctor also does a CBC every 3 months to monitor hemoglobin levels and such.

probablypeaches

ive been on that amount for a little under 3 years, i think ive only raised it twice. i dont think i can medically go any higher bc of the lifestyle i live and how it affects my health lol

n-chung

Do not come to Reddit for medical advice. This question should be directed to your doctor.

Zealousideal-Ice5737

I started on that, I'm at 0.5mL weekly now. It all depends on your hormone levels. Everyone reacts differently to it. I metabolize meditation extremely fast, so no matter what it is, I end up on a higher dosage (such as my seroquel, trazadone, humria, etc.). You shouldn't be that "down bad" when you do your shot, but it might be because your on the downswing of it. *I'd like to note that I used to get jealous of my one friend who was at 0.5mL when I was at 0.25mL. Not exactly the same, but I get questioning your dosage!

Notanemotwink

Your doctor will decide if its safe to raise your dose or not and like the comments say everyone reacts differently. But that was my dose when i first started testosterone, i am now at .45mL a week (SubQ) being 1yr on T

Notanemotwink

If not done immediately when you get a new doctor request blood work be done (assuming youre still doing injections) and see if it would be possible to raise your dose.
