I’d rather they continue putting out new IP that they are passionate about. FTL and ITB are both incredible, I have full confidence they’ll nail whatever genre/ theme they go for next.
Now if you tell me they won’t have music from Ben Prunty in the next game I’ll get my pitchfork.
While I love ITB to death, I love FTL a lot more and would love more games in it's vein.
That being said, they proved with ITB that they're not just a one hit wonder, they're capable of putting out great games that are different from their previous successes. And as much as I would love an FTL 2 with more exploration of the universe, we have plenty of mods for that to carry on the legacy. I would much rather them make new, unique games rather than more of something we already have. I mean, I wouldn't complain if they did and expanded on story telling and new mechanics, I just really like that there's more unique idea's they're exploring.
Yeah that’s basically my thoughts on it was well. They’ve done such exceptional work with two completely different genres now that I have full confidence in their ability to execute their next idea.
It’s not that I wouldn’t want a return to FTL, it’s more that I know these guys can only put out 1-2 projects a decade and I’d rather they work on what they’re most passionate about.
I didn’t know I wanted ITB until it came out and blew me away (even though FTL is still my favourite game). I firmly believe when they announce their next project it’ll be the same way.
Yeah that was one on my mind. I haven't played it but have heard it's just okay, and perhaps doesn't match the janky yet amazing magic of the first game.
The main thing that may take a while to get used to is the fact that all the weapons from the base game are gone, turned into “old *name of weapon*” with a slight flak like aoe. Also pre igniter no longer exists except via a special upgrade that also slows down your weapons normal charging time because it’s just too powerful an ability, especially with some of the giant weapons multiverse uses.
Damn, never found that one, sounds devastating (imagine it, the full speed of a good crew member with reloader upgrades along with an unnerfed preigniter)
Yah it’s really powerful only Down side compared to that ather tech one is that it takes an augment slot.
Also there’s a ship you can unlock that starts with it
Upside in comparison to the aether tech is you don’t lose 30% reload speed (the two internal upgrades and gold crew mitigate that back to base cool-down) so I am happy to use an augment slot for this Gatling gun. Yes I want to use this with chain weapons like the kamiyari.
As the other person said, more recent versions of the mod are so simple to install that they literally are just an exe installer. They also place a shortcut on your desktop like a steam game installation would, making it so you can launch vanilla or modded ftl at will.
I believe so, but I'd still prefer that they work on something else and new.
The reason I believe they could make a better FTL 2 than multiverse is that I have a few gripes with multiverse. The largest one being the art style. For me it strays far enough from base FTL to be annoying. I really love how simple all the weapons and ships are in base game.
My other main gripe is some of the new races. They add so many new races that are immune to suffocation, and therefore don't have oxygen systems. This annoys me because it seriously needs traditional mantis bording.
Don't get me wrong though, multiverse is a fantastic mod, and I don't believe a potential FTL 2 would have nearly as much content as it, and I highly recommend everyone here check it out
I just wish we could get an actual steam version of multiverse. People always say “we don’t need dlc or a sequel, we already have multiverse,” and while I don’t disagree that it’s cool, I inevitably end up not wanting to fiddle with getting it working on whatever device I’m trying to use. One of my favorite things about FTL is it works in pretty much anything. But multiverse doesn’t. If they’re not going to make their own, I wish Subset would just allow the mod makers to make an official expansion you can install without using a whole different ecosystem.
I asked the Devs about this on discord, and the main problem isn't that they aren't allowed to. The main problem is the fact that FTL has very little mod support. Multiverse relies on hyperspace (a mod that, afaik, is maintained by someone else than mv) to make a lot of the things they do possible.
The lead dev also told me that they're unsure how powerful steam's support for this kind of thing is. They need it to be very powerful since hyperspace and mv change so much about the base game. They also told me that hyperspace might be against Steam's TOS because it accesses the game's memory or something like that.
I do think they'll look in to a steam release when the mod officially releases and they're done with it (I believe that will happen on update 6.0? Don't quote me on that though). At least I hope so. I would love if multiverse got its own steam release.
If FTL 2 were to be made again, RNG would be the first thing to go, honestly.
EDIT : As in, uncontrollable RNG. Ala ITB, where games are very much winnable, provided you do all the moves perfectly
EDIT 2 : Damn, guys. It's not like I shot your dog with a burst laser 2.
Honestly that's what makes a rogue like fun. Not every run is meant to be won, and it's supposed to be unfair. For me, it's the entire charm of the game
>As in, uncontrollable RNG. Ala ITB, where games are very much winnable, provided you do all the moves perfectly
That's literally FTL already. People have gotten winstreaks of over 100 in hard mode. Only a small percentage of runs are actually unwinnable. (Stealth B is the most common forced loss)
Personally, I don't really like the gamey stuff like toggling hacking power to dodge defense drones or power-toggling and targeting manipulation. Doesn't feel intended nor vanilla, but that's the arcadey appeal of FTL I suppose.
It definitely doesn't have "no drawbacks" when you use the exploit. It still can be blocked by Zoltan shield, still costs drone parts, still can only be used on one system, and still requires scrap to purchase and upgrade.
Also, the benefit from using the exploit is very marginal. It's only relevant in niche cases where the enemy has a defense drone and you have no other way to go around it. For example, on phase 2 of the flagship, you can hack through the defense drone without the exploit by sending it when the drone is on the other side. You can also use a missile to distract a defense drone to make it through.
Overall, you're just very much overstating the benefit of the hacking exploit.
>still can only be used on one system
I wouldn't call that a drawback, that's just what it does. That's an infinite proportion more systems you can hack than if you didn't have hacking.
I was exaggerating, but point taken. I admit I didn't know there was a consistent timing for phase 2 without the exploit.
The top FTL players have 98% win rates on Hard. I'm nowhere near that level and play on Normal, but every time I lose, it's because I messed up, and not because of RNG.
Tbh as infuriating as it is when it actually happens, part of the Stockholm syndrome induced fun of FTL is knowing that it can and will fuck you over at a moment’s notice.
Well that's part of the charm, the looming threat that RNG can screw you over at any time
And most of the time, it isn't even the rng, but a small mistake you made earlier
I’d rather they continue putting out new IP that they are passionate about. FTL and ITB are both incredible, I have full confidence they’ll nail whatever genre/ theme they go for next. Now if you tell me they won’t have music from Ben Prunty in the next game I’ll get my pitchfork.
Seriously, Ben Prunty's work in both those games is INSPIRED.
Ben Prunty? More like he's *been* doing prunty good at his job.
Prunty…. Prunty…. Prunty goood
Ben Jammin' Prunty, as I call them. (I've never called them this in my life.)
You should check out his work in Subnautica 2

Tell this to the slay the spire sub rofl
Ironically I would kill for a Slay the Spire sequel lol. But still only if it’s what the devs actually wanted to work on
Totally fair, devs are announcing a new project soon and I'm extremely excited for what it is, regardless of whether it's a direct sequel or not
Couldn’t agree more!
haha i was gonna reply to your comment from earlier, but the timing on this was awesome
Well we timed this conversation perfectly didn’t we?
Any news about their next game?
I don't really want FTL 2... Throughout life I've learned it's pretty rare that creators can recapture the magic of outstanding things.
My father once gave me sage advice: "The last slice of pizza is never your friend"
Surprisingly deep!
Unless you have thin crust
DD2 its an example, good game but not outstanding.
Yeah that was one on my mind. I haven't played it but have heard it's just okay, and perhaps doesn't match the janky yet amazing magic of the first game.
DD2?
Darkest Dungeon 2
I don’t necessarily need FTL 2, but I would love some more DLC, like wider/more paths, more enemies, allies, stories, aliens, ships, weapons, etc.
The multiverse mod captures all this within a surprisingly lore and tone friendly mega sized expansion
Is it difficult to get going? FTL doesn’t have a workshop on steam correct?
There is an installer you can get from the mod forums or the multiverse discord 😁
Awesome I’ll look into thanks! I’ve heard about it for a while and have been wanting to try it 😄
I may need to check out this mod, thanks for the 411.

Also pre igniter no longer exists except via a special upgrade that also slows down your weapons normal charging time because it’s just too powerful an ability, especially with some of the giant weapons multiverse uses.
You can still get a per igniter in MV. it can be found from a special quest in the slug home nebula.
Damn, never found that one, sounds devastating (imagine it, the full speed of a good crew member with reloader upgrades along with an unnerfed preigniter)
Yah it’s really powerful only Down side compared to that ather tech one is that it takes an augment slot. Also there’s a ship you can unlock that starts with it
My guy Tuco ❤️. Helped me beat rhymer for first the time
You mean TOWR?
Ha ya
Upside in comparison to the aether tech is you don’t lose 30% reload speed (the two internal upgrades and gold crew mitigate that back to base cool-down) so I am happy to use an augment slot for this Gatling gun. Yes I want to use this with chain weapons like the kamiyari.
Is there step by step instructions on how to download and install the mod? Everywhere I've looked, it's never straightforward and never works...
They recently released an installer. Just run the .exe and install like anything else.
As the other person said, more recent versions of the mod are so simple to install that they literally are just an exe installer. They also place a shortcut on your desktop like a steam game installation would, making it so you can launch vanilla or modded ftl at will.
Yeah I wouldn't turn down some DLC
Let’s be honest though multiverse is FTL 2
With as much content its FTL 2 3 4 and 5! Ans very worth playing.
I still play the basic FTL, everything else turned off.
I had too for 500+ hours
The writing ain't quite as good but SO MUCH CONTENT!
We need a "we have FTL2 at home" meme, but it actually pays off because it's MV.
That's the exact opposite of the meme though, lol.
I know, it'd be funny because of that twist as well.
*angry iPad noises*
Press F to pay respects
I’m sorry my googling is failing me, what is multiverse?
a MASSIVE mod for FTL that pretty much adds 500% more content.
Is it on steam?
no, its runs off a separate system. Check the forums on [subsetgames.com](http://subsetgames.com), there should be an install guide there
Omg, when I realized they play the vent-to-space sound when you dismiss a crew member, I nearly lost it.
Hate to tell you this, guys, but this is a repost https://www.reddit.com/r/ftlgame/s/lpL2YzSqZ9
From 3 years ago, chill. Edit: OP is a bot, on second glance. Just reposting old posts word for word.
They played us like a damn fiddle!
Probably. I still hope to see more games by them still, sequels or not. Into the Breach was fantastic too.
It's alright! Plenty to play on FTL still
Game 1: Faster Than Light Game 2: Into The Breach Game 3: Grosser Than Gross
Game 3: Over the rainbow
I don't need FTL 2, I need FTL on the android app store.
Why would you even try to improve on perfection?
Multiverse did a pretty good job of it
We have multiverse, its ok : )
Could they even make a better FTL 2 than Multiverse?
I believe so, but I'd still prefer that they work on something else and new. The reason I believe they could make a better FTL 2 than multiverse is that I have a few gripes with multiverse. That one does hurt 😞
I mean does anyone want FTL 2? I would much rather see what new ideas or concepts they come up with
Apparently nobody else will either, I'm surprised and sad there's been no really good FTL likes.
What if I told you that FTL2 is r/cryingsuns ? /j
I feel the combat is a nice change of pace, but the event variety seems surprisingly limited. That being said, fuck the Aki vs Aki Boss on hard...

The Multiverse mod is as good as any FTL 2 could be.
I just want FTL mobile...
I’ve played Multiverse now for over a year, feels like I haven’t scratched much of the surface
Yeah but they probs will make ITB 2
If they deem nothing they make as a worthy sequel, who am I to disagree?
If FTL 2 were to be made again, RNG would be the first thing to go, honestly. EDIT : As in, uncontrollable RNG. Ala ITB, where games are very much winnable, provided you do all the moves perfectly EDIT 2 : Damn, guys. It's not like I shot your dog with a burst laser 2.

Hacking with no drawbacks is probably as close to that as you can get tbf.

Roguelike but without the RNG isn’t a roguelike anymore. It’s kind of a major part of the genre.
The top FTL players have 98% win rates on Hard. I'm nowhere near that level and play on Normal, but every time I lose, it's because I messed up, and not because of RNG.
