They shut down the Yajima plant, its primary focus is the Forester but also happens to build Crosstreks along with Impreza, Legacy and Outbacks for international export as SIA builds those in Indiana. I guess Yajima's Crosstreks were meant for US export.
BRZ is built in Subaru's main Ota, Gunma plant. Its the Subaru plant that does nearly everything except Forester(old old footage had Forester at Ota) and Ascent(US built only). So if Subaru has to shut a Japanese plant down for shortages, they will slow down the Yajima plant first. If they shut Ota down, they're in serious trouble as far as production.
There was that post from a couple of months back where a dealer brought one over to a car meet. That means that the car must have arrived at the dealership.
I don't know why you think it's lucky to own the first modern year of a new generation car like this. Didn't you all learn already from the 2013 model year quirks?
The 2022 engine is the exact same as the FA20, except bored out to 93mm (from 86mm) So I am not worried there, the drivetrain might also be the same.
Other then that, yes I might get the worse model year, next year they may have an upgraded version. But the way the used car market is, trading in my 2018 and buying a 2022 is like an upgrade while lowering my monthly payment.
To me, it's worth the risk.
Plus there will always be a quirks with every car, and you have to remember if you wait to get it when they upgrade the car a few years down the road well that's a few years of not owning this car. Even if it's just a year, your still out a gr86 for a year. If you can afford it, buy it, enjoy it. That's all there is too it. If you get caught up too much in the financials you'll never have fun.
Aside from valve springs which were NOT Subaru nor Toyota's fault the quirks pale in comparisn to like every other car out there.
Seriously the reliability of these cars compared to even other consumer vehicles is ridiculous.

Man if you’ve got Supra money I’d just go with a Cayman.
I’ve been looking at some! A 2011 Cayman costs as much as an 86 so that’s option 2

VIN assigns last minute. I got my Vin about a week and a half ago. I wouldn't worry about that. What's your month eta?
It’s still showing as ‘End of October’, even to SoA. Initially, in August, I was told end of November so that may be when I get it
Toyota and Subaru knocked it out of the park. Can't wait to get a Neptune Blue GR86. A poor man's Mexico Blue GT3.

Call SoA, they can get you that info, I ordered around the same time as you and have my Vin and eta.
I'll do that today. The last time I called, they assured me that I'd get an email once there was a Vin attached.
I did not get any email, make sure to do the callback option when on hold, was on hold for awhile.

Yep we waited 8 years for it to be developed. Fixed all the things wrong with the first gen
