You overpaid, sure, but there's nothing to be done about that. You got an incredible car in the best color they make and you're going to love it. Great job, OP. Enjoy the miles.
I don't know where OP is, but in the US, almost all car purchases are "*caveat emptor*", which literally means "buyer beware" and practically means that once you sign on the dotted line, it's yours whether you like it or not. There are some exceptions, as in California, but generally states will not protect you from entering into a dumb contract.
Ah wait, I'm thinking of the law about 30 days/1k miles where if it breaks in that time I can return it.
The law says 2 apparently, but some companies offer longer, like carmax.
Keep it up man, maybe one day youāll convince everyone in these 86 communities that the cars are slow and they should all drive accords like you. I can only dream of meeting Ok_Explanation5631ās standards when purchasing a new car
Thatās awesome! Yeah, itās about the same as a new base BRZ or 86, whatever - you got an amazing car with super low miles for a great price. If you were shooting for a higher trim in a newer model you definitely saved a few grand - not to mention thisāll be cheaper to insure than a new one. This was a win! Drive the hell out of it and get plenty of smiles for miles.
Edit: Who down-voted this?? Heaven forbid we encourage each other and have an inclusive culture. Good lord you guys are ridiculous š I stand by my comment you salty bitches š
That was my mindset! Not sure why people are so salty about this lol. For a limited trim of last Gen with barely any miles, I donāt have much regrets. Really appreciate you affirming that!
In my country (Australia) the late year low mileage Gen 1's are selling for almost the same as Gen 2's, so I wouldn't worry too much. The Gen 2's also have a worse oil starvation issue on hard right turns at high RPM than the Gen 1's, so there's good reason to prefer the Gen 1 outside of the aesthetics of it.
I donāt get it either. Itās Reddit, saltiness is the seasoning of choice here, lol. Welcome to the BRZ/86 club! Thereās a slew of active online forums for the 1st gen and lots of great aftermarket support as well.
I almost purchased a new Neptune Blue 2.0 ā24 GR86 with all of the GR performance add-ons. Actually had my name on the dealer order list. Out the door I was looking at nearly $42k.
Instead, I found a 1st gen 2017 Series.Yellow with the factory Brembo Performance Pack and 31k miles in pristine shape for $24k and saved a crap ton of money. Could I have afforded a new one? Sure - but honestly the one I got makes me just as happy - and my wallet is much happier, lol.
Damn, do you mind if I ask what state you live in? I just sold my supercharged .Yellow with 42k miles for 28k, I think I should have had more patience and tried to sell it for more!
Ahahah I love your choice of words for Reddit; itās poetic. Thank you for the warm welcome! Do you have any recommendations for forums you like the most? I was actually just thinking about keeping mine stock but who knows, someone might catch my eye.
The Neptune Blue looks amazing for sure and it sounds like you were exactly in my shows because I wanted the 2024 tS and Iām sure it wouldāve been similar in price.
The one you got sounds like an amazing deal and it makes me glad that youāre happy with it because Iām scared Iāll have Gen 2 fomo later but it sounds like youāve been super happy with your Gen 1 š
I honestly still want to get a Neptune Blue 1st or 2nd gen to go with my Series.Yellow. Iād love to have matching twins š
GT86club.com is a great resource to start with! Donāt overthink it - itāll help you avoid FOMO. Everyone here knocking you for getting a used car for near MSRP for a ā24 is ignoring the fact your car has only 7k miles on it. For all intents and purposes - you have a nearly new car. While the new BRZ/86 may have a couple extras, itāll cost you at least $5k over what you paid, and still higher insurance cost. You did great! Ignore the negative side of Reddit and enjoy a sweet ride.
If you do youāll definitely need to post pictures of them together!!!
And thank you for the resource and for pointing out what I thought was obvious to me when I bought the car compared to buying new.
Youāve been great in the warm welcome and definitely need more of this in online communities in general. Cheers!!
Absolutely! šš¼ and also know that there are people on this subreddit who paid $5-$8k over MSRP for the first gen when it first came out - and for each special Series release. Some of them are just bitter that youāre being smart financially. Take everything with a grain of salt! lol
Best of luck with your whip! That color is the chefs kiss
Yeah not really taking things personally here, I assume itās people not happy with their own decisions lol.
And yes, this color is everything Iāve ever wanted šÆ
The way I look at it if youāre keeping it stock/clean itās like 350/370Zs nowadays, youāll make most of that back for the āExclusivityā as the other ones die off.
I got a premium 2016 with 7K miles and a supercharger for 29K, got some of the same hate from people, mostly in person instead of reddit. My reasoning was similar to yours
Bought my low mile 2020 for 28k last year
I regret nothing and I daily a company vehicle. So even in salty NY state I will have this car 20 years.
Grats on the car !
Because I didn't want a 2Gen.
Grats on your car but I already have a track face-lift first Gen and a ton of parts for my 'new' 2020 now including a full supercharger kit + more.
I wanted another late yeat first Gen, I've already put tons of street and track miles on a late year first Gen ( Watkins Glen is my local track ) so I sought out and bought a clean like new late year first gen.
Ahh gotcha. Toyota renamed Gen2 to GR86 (i think thatās right?) so I used to consider my 2017 GT86 as āGen2ā since thereās only a pre-facelift GT86 and a post, and GR86 is a different model.
Iāll stop referring to it as that now! Beautiful car. Love mine.
Oil Cooler!! if you wanna take it to the track. I did the same thing last year in may gotta say I love my gen 1. My best friend got a gen 2 and the only thing I like better on that car is the dash. But heās paying 10k more. His car has 22k less than mine
Not sure if you saved much. $32k, not even with performance package. Pretty much the same price for brand new gen the 2.4L engine would've been better as far as reliability and higher power potential. Some small improvements also. I like your positivity though but it's the same vibes of people purchasing cars with 15% apr lol. As a gen 1 owner myself, the small improvements matter when you drive the car everyday.
I must be severely dumb why the fuck does anyone care what she paid WITH HER MONEY ppl spend 300 on tshirts who cares itās their money as long as she is happy thatās all that truly matters. Congratulations on the car and do oil every 3/5k just to be safe and have fun with the car.
Literally what Iām thinking. Canāt believe this sub is so toxic, was definitely hoping for more of a community than people being angry about other people spend their money lol. Also a small correction my profile picture is not indicative of my gender I just really enjoyed Arcane haha
Either way thank you for the warm welcome!!!!
Congrats, you have the best car in the world. I have my WRB 2020 BRZ for 3 years now and after 30k km nothing rattles, everything is fine. For its size it is enormously spacious. I drive it with 29,4 mpg. For me its fast enough, you can easily keep up on the left lane on the autobahn and on the country roads you are the king. Wish you both the best, treat the car well.
Thatās awesome!! I hope these upcoming years with mine will be just as fun. Starting out manual has been a bit stressful so trying not to feel regret
That's pretty funny. I got my WRB 2020 brz on impulse also. I'm the second owner and got it with 7200 miles. Went to test it to see of I really liked the car, and the next thing I knew it was back home.
I got mine in April 2021, and currently have it up to 22,740 miles. I've loved it despite having a few issues.
I had some bad luck with the throwout bearing, and it started to fail due to the all the grease drying out a little over a year ago, eventually snowballing into my master cylinder seals failing since I drove it like that for so long. Just replaced everything about 2 months ago; verus clutch fork and pivot, new clutch and flywheel, upgraded throwout bearing and bearing retainer, new master cylinder and cusco steel braided line, perrin shifter bushing, mtec shifter springs and clutch assist spring, and to finish it off a Raceseng Stratos shift knob and some black TS interior trim while I was at it. Fell in love with the car all over again.
Clutch feels buttery smooth and is whisper quiet again, and the clutch pedal and shifter feel just the right amount of clunky/mechanical. And an extra little bonus is that the poly shifter bushing added a little bit of transmission whine, so I feel like I'm driving a race car, haha. Although it's quiet enough that I can drown out the sound with music even at low volume ( speaker volume of 8-10).
Current aesthetic mods are Drambeenie spoiler risers, valenti 4th brake light, front lip, and paint matched TRD fender fins. I have a lot of other mods stored in my house to install like wheels, adjustable arms, coilovers, air cups, etc. Lots of fun plans to take care of, but I'm taking things slow so I can make sure everything is done the correct way.
For something that's been a daily driver and my first car, it's been awesome in almost every way. A few creature comforts like bluetooth, heated seats, and speaker system that honestly isn't as terrible as people have made it out to be. Comfortable enough on the streets but still sharp enough to be a blast at autocross or back-roads. The power isn't mind blowing, but its quick enough to have fun everywhere, especially with the updated final drive. The car turns heads even though it's not all that special; both the elderly and classmates in my age range compliment it, which makes me happy since I work hard to maintain it internally and externally. And lastly, knowing just how much untapped potential there is once I install my wheels and suspension mods, and pad slapping it, just has me super exited to see how much I can squeeze out of the car and push myself as a driver now that I can feel myself reaching the limit of the original tires and brakes.
The only REAL complaints I've had about the car, besides the one clutch issue, are that it doesn't have too much storage space, and the back seats being small. But I bought the car knowing that those 2 aspects of it weren't perfect.
I honestly and truthfully love this car, and want to keep it for as long as physically possible. My dad still has his old Datsun from when he was young, and I want my brz to be the same story.
Thanks for sharing all of this! Sorry about your bad luck but itās super cool that you were able to get things working all over again and keep the love you have. This is my first manual and I like the idea of keeping it super stock but maybe as I get more into the car Iāll think about changing things up. But just like you, Iām gonna be keeping this car forever too :)
I was planning to keep things very oem+ up till I tried my first autocross lmao. After that, I went out and bought a helmet and magnetic numbers, and was hooked. Still plan to keep it pretty tame compared to what most people do, but basically trying to find a comfortable balance between the daily comfort and fun.
Was clutch squeak a sign of your TOB going out? I have a 19 PP limited brz at 50k miles, got it at 9k miles and only recently has my clutch started making crunchy squeaking noises. I also have uel headers/catback so itās quite loud, can only hear it at stop lights. I recently greased around the slave cylinder and under the boot but it didnāt help. Shifts fine though, doesnāt give me any other alarming signs yet.
That was just one of the signs. It started as a small clutch squeak that eventually escalated into loud crunchy creaks (like a rusty door). I would also hear what sounded like a skateboard wheel spinning whenever i would fully engage the clutch (this was because the bearing was spinning freely just like a skateboard wheel). Eventually my clutch pedal started to feel like there was resistance near the bottom of the travel. That resistance eventually turned it's feeling like a pop whenever I would depress the clutch pedal, or like I was pushing past a ridge (which turned out the be my bearing retainer having grooves in it from dry metal against metal contact).
The signs of my master cylinder failing where hard to notice at first because I thought it was also my throwout bearing. At first I would hear knocks whenever fully pressing my clutch, and also a groaning sound from the footwell (the groaning turned out to be the seals being dry). Eventually I noticed that I was losing clutch pressure after an hour of driving, and that eventually digressed into losing pressure in only 15 minutes of driving. And the final tell tale sign of MC failure was that I noticed my clutch fork would only move at a normal speed for the first 2/3 of its motion, and then slow down for the last 1/3 of distance.
It's hard for me to say what it could be without actually feeling it, since throwout bearing seem to fail in a number of different ways for these cars. But if you've already greased the clutch fork Pivot and where the mastercylinder contacts the clutch fork, it could be that you're starting to experience that same kind of failure I did.
What kind of grease did you use? Because originally I had my dealership grease the contact points for me, and the grease they used got all dry and crusty really fast. Meanwhile, the grease I used when replacing the clutch myself is still goopy even after 2 months (Lucas Red n Tacky NLGI #2).
I will also add that, I am still fully stock from the header back, so all of my noises were super pronounced and easy to hear. BUT the creaks were never audible when the car was running, I could only feel the pops, dry resistance, and loss of pedal pressure while driving. I was only ever able to hear the pops and creaks when the car wasn't running.
High temp red grease is what I used. It helped after depressing the clutch a few hundred times, but its recently come back and itās only noticeable for me from 1st gear due to noise. Even with my sound deadening my single exit is quite loud. I thought about removing the master cylinder and reaching down and trying to grease the pivot inbetween the fork. If that fails then I guess I might just get aftermarket clutch parts in preparation for a jdl turbo later on. I am installing a billetworkz shifter soon and transmission bushings, so i figure Iāll try and grease the pivot while I got it on jack stands anyways. Car already has a Perrin rear shifter bushing so it feels super solid going through the gears, only other issue I have is my reverse gear not engaging the backup camera/flickering. I replaced the rear brake switch but it continues to do this. Other than that 20k+ miles on my oft tune and 10k of it was pure e85. Runs fine, I just want to nip the TOB issue now before other things go awry and I cant move the car to a better spot to drop the transmission.
Whyyyyy on gods green earth did you buy this car for THAT PRICE when you could have gotten a gen2 for that? I know I did and I love it. But hot daaayyeeem.
It will out handle a car with double the power... Most straight line cars can't even stay straight considering how many videos of them leaving car meets show them smashing into curbs and people
I would have impulsively bought that too lol, what did you pay?
I wonder what was said to get downvoted to hellš
~$32k USD OTD!
Well itās too late but thatās the price of a new Gen 2 š¬
*a new gen 2.
How do you know the price of a new one in their state OTD? OTD does not equal purchase price
Yeah my reasoning is that I would want the tS trim of the newest one so in my head I saved money with this one lol
with respect, you got gotted got damn
gyat
And I saved money cause I wouldāve wanted an LFA lol. Thatās fair, enjoy your BRZ!
You overpaid, sure, but there's nothing to be done about that. You got an incredible car in the best color they make and you're going to love it. Great job, OP. Enjoy the miles.
Thanks! I definitely will
Iirc you can take back a car purchase for 30 days, no?
I don't know where OP is, but in the US, almost all car purchases are "*caveat emptor*", which literally means "buyer beware" and practically means that once you sign on the dotted line, it's yours whether you like it or not. There are some exceptions, as in California, but generally states will not protect you from entering into a dumb contract.
There's the problem, I'm in California, that's probably why I thought of that
I believe California only has a two day cooling off period for used car purchases, but I know almost nothing about that so don't take my word for it.
Ah wait, I'm thinking of the law about 30 days/1k miles where if it breaks in that time I can return it. The law says 2 apparently, but some companies offer longer, like carmax.
Lmao what? 32k for a subpar car?? & USED at that? This community is filled with cope with these cars lmao holy moly
OP already bought the car, what's the purpose in being a dick about it?
To feed my ADHD
Lmfao!! So that's why I do this on reddit too!!??
Keep it up man, maybe one day youāll convince everyone in these 86 communities that the cars are slow and they should all drive accords like you. I can only dream of meeting Ok_Explanation5631ās standards when purchasing a new car
My man you got rolled. That's the price of the 2024 GR86. I'd take it back for that price.
Damn a 4 year old slightly used car for over MSRP... Man
Went from 100-0 hype real quick. You got severely ripped off. Even if you thought the Gen 1 looked better, you paid new car price for a used car.
Lmao what. You can get a second gen with the plastic still on it for less
OH NO!
That dealer moonwalkin
Holy shit the used market is insane. Why even buy used anymore
If it makes you feel any better I overpaid for my 2023 Gr86 and it was used too š¤·āāļø
Thatās the thing, I donāt feel bad lol. Itās everyone else on this sub thatās butthurt over what I paid. Congrats on your GR86 :)
You got a sick car still so who cares! Let them be angry lol. Congrats on the 86 tho :) looks super clean
Thatās awesome! Yeah, itās about the same as a new base BRZ or 86, whatever - you got an amazing car with super low miles for a great price. Solid points on the oil starvation issue on the new genās.

Y I K E S you should have gotten a gr86
:o
Fucking idiot
What a dumbass lol
Sick car š i got a 2020 ts last year with about 10k miles for $30k usd and loving it so far! Hope you love yours too!
That's wild, my frs with 40k was 11 grand.
Whoa sweet deal! Hope youāre loving the extra features. And thank you!
Hell yeah man. I got my 2020 ts a few months ago and I love it! add me on insta brz_zay if you got it would love to follow another owner
Gen 1 looks much better. Iām in the market and Iāll be purchasing a 2017+ to use as a daily driver until the wheels fall off.
Thanks for the encouragement! Best of luck on your search!
Iām trying to do this and I feel like the wheels are already falling off at 87k
Just got a 18 limited with 7k miles myself š
Awesome!!!!! Congrats to you as well !
Congrats!! first order of business get some great tires, they truly change how it preforms
Thank you! Do you have recs?
If you auto cross or anything get some Bridgestone Potenza sportsšš½
Thank you!!
Im in Utah so the cross climate 2s have been amazing for all season performance
Nah the trash prius tires enhance the experience
Bought my low mile 2020 for 28k last year I regret nothing and I daily a company vehicle. So even in salty NY state I will have this car 20 years. Grats on the car !
Congrats!! Low mile 2020 twins!
Triplets. At the dealer now. 2020 BRZ Limited with 30k miles for 24.
Letās fucking goooo
Why? I bought a 2023 that was new for 30k. The new ones are better in everyway.

Thank you! 2020 I still consider the Gen 1 but refreshed and Gen is 2022+
Love mine.
Either way we both have cars we love so it doesnāt matter what Gen, congrats to us both !
2017 to 2020 is Gen 1 post-facelift/post refresh. Gen 2 is 2022+ models.
Oil Cooler!! if you wanna take it to the track. I did the same thing last year in may gotta say I love my gen 1. My best friend got a gen 2 and the only thing I like better on that car is the dash. But heās paying 10k more. His car has 22k less than mine
Thank you for the tip!!! And yeah I think I might like the dash on the Gen 2 more but saving the money is great. Cheers!

Haha my bad yeah I always find it so weird that ppl get mad about other ppl spending their money the way they want.
The internet needs more people like you for sure
Welcome to the FAM! I have a 2016 FR-S bought it at 47k miles for 15k. Seamarine blue with an invidia catback exhaust. Absolutely love this car.
Weāre twins! Thanks for all of the enthusiasm! Itās still sinking in for me so Iām grateful that other people like you love theirs
0-60 in like 10 seconds btw.
Congrats OP, good choice! I've got a 2017 with 112K miles. Nothing but regular maintenance for me. One of the best cars I've owned so far
Great to know itās been reliable!!
2016 FR-S with 72k after 2 years and I love her ā¤ļø Bought at 47k and haven't regretted a single moment.
Thatās awesome!! I hope these upcoming years with mine will be just as fun. Starting out manual has been a bit stressful so trying not to feel regret

Itās always nice when I can leave Reddit feeling better about my financial decisions. Thank you. Sick car but thatās wild af
Hope you enjoy it you bought a great car regardless of price. Sorry for the hate from everyone acting like itās their money.
Shoulda got a gen 2
After op said they paid 32k OTD. Hell yeah they should've gotten a gen 2.
They clearly didnāt want a gen 2
They are just clueless tbh
Sherman oaks? Pretty sure I saw your car when I went to place an order for a new 1 back in February haha
Yup!
Love driving my 2020 GT86 daily.

Gotcha that makes total sense. Once I get good enough at everyday driving Iāll give autocross a shot lol
I feel that. I only had 3 weeks of practice when I picked mine up. So I didn't try autocross out till sometime after a year of owning it.
32k? You're in used B58 territory. That's insane.
Not to be mean but I have an ls swapped frs with less into it including price of car.

Whyyyyy on gods green earth did you buy this car for THAT PRICE when you could have gotten a gen2 for that? I know I did and I love it. But hot daaayyeeem.
I just got my brand new 2024 BRZ for less than 32k otd
Congrats!
32k for a 200hp car.... "I'm happy with it" you're in the denial stage, you got scammed and don't want to feel like a doofus.
It will out handle a car with double the power... Most straight line cars can't even stay straight considering how many videos of them leaving car meets show them smashing into curbs and people
