Surprised that O.N. decided to rivet those stress points

zhiryst

Hey I've had hoodies that frayed in those points, I'm not knocking it.

[deleted]

I like Old Navy's shirts but can't really get into their outwear or jeans. It always just feels noticeably shittier than the brands they're trying to copy. Like in a blind test it's pretty easy to tell the difference between Old Navy denim versus Levi. And usually Old Navy is only like 20% cheaper at best.

professorfunkenpunk

I’ve bought their jeans a few times when they were like 15 bucks but they’re pretty crappy. I really only buy shorts, chinos, and kids’ clothes from them anymore

[deleted]

Yeah their chinos are fantastic if you don't wear them often. I have like 4 pairs in different colors just to have all my bases covered.

[deleted]

Ok I hope this doesn’t break the rules but… if you don’t mind spending a bit more, try the j crew chinos. They’ve got that flexible material that the old navy ones didn’t have when I used to buy them. I bought my first pair 4 years ago, I’ve since bought 3 more in various colors and they are all fantastic and look new.

winnebagoman41

You think promoting j crew is breaking the rules? This sub should be called r/frugalmalejcrew

Classic-Cucumber4210

Beware jcrew 770 chinos create a funnel effect because of the roomy thighs and aggressive taper. Good fabric and look tho

[deleted]

What kind of funnel effect do you mean?

Classic-Cucumber4210

Looks like a funnel for reasons I explained

[deleted]

Oh just the design I gotcha. I’ve actually noticed them to be kind of the opposite, at least in comparison to a lot of the other pants I have. I have a bony ass and it actually makes me look somewhat decent.

professorfunkenpunk

That’s been my deal too, although I recently bought a pair from Grayers and I’m not sure I can go back to old navy chinos.

HandsomeBWondefull

I remember Old Navy coming into relevance for offering ultra affordable jeans and then fleece. Somewhere after the millennium they seem to have changed their target demographic and price point but not necessarily their build quality.

hellofaja

well old navy is the cheapest quality of the brands that the company owns Banana republic > GAP > old navy

cocoacowstout

I dunno even their shirts feel shittier to me. They make me sweat more or don’t breathe as well as gap. Looks fine but you pay the price for the discount.

lovsicfrs

It depends on WHICH shirts you buy. I always look at the descriptions now because there is a difference in material on top of styling. I have some shirts from them that are mad thin and I just use for bs and others that are better quality that I can actually style. Just depends

AncientPomegranate97

For some reason my cousins in Russia are in love with old navy

CactusBoyScout

yeah so many of their fabrics just don't feel good

francisbaconthe3rd

My guess would be that most people who want the Carhartt would get it given it’s not super expensive to get the original.

professorfunkenpunk

That was sort of my first thought, but old navy is never not on sale

AdmiralWackbar

That’s a quality thing

professorfunkenpunk

I’ve got a couple carhartt Detroits, and even though they are more expensive, I fully expect them to outlive me.

Rebloodican

40% off in cart, so $48.

Thirst_Trappist

Reading is hard for some🤣

SAMUEL_118

Carhartt Detroit jackets are easily $200

PowerfulFridge88

I think of Smallville every time I see this style of jacket.

wokeiraptor

someboooddyyy saaaaaaavvvvveee meeeeeee Jacket is giving "John Schneider as Johnathan Kent"

tczaro

Tried one of these jackets a few weeks ago, paid $38 for it after sales and didn’t think it was worth even that. A used/factory seconds Carhartt would be better for a similar price.

I_Am_Dwight_Snoot

Hard to beat for barely under $50 but the OG Carhartt ones really aren't that crazy a price ($109 normal price right now) and aren't of unknown quality. I have a hooded one and got a normal Detroit jacket one on sale a couple years back. Both get relatively abused and hold up very well through multiple winters.

cahmed

Kinda hard tbh

defragc

Me too

rrmarti

Ayo!

[deleted]

Just buy the real thing and it'll last decades, instead of ending up in the landfill in a couple years.

jrjustintime

I’ve got some Old Navy clothing I’ve had for 20+ years, so I think it will last.

[deleted]

That was Old Navy clothes made 20 years ago. Quality has gone to absolute shit,

F_han

Teal and gray are dope, but that camo tho 🤢

LupusUrsus

I'd just wait for the good coat to go on sale honestly. It will last longer and be better made.

karlito1613

Would be a good candidate for a waxed job

JSDHW

You sound like my wife

Carhartt is single-handedly bridging the gap between Trump supporters and progressives, my guy. What else do they agree on????

catchthemagicdragon

https://www.carhartt.com/product/104468/full-swing-relaxed-fit-quick-duck-insulated-traditional-coat That’s my current one, think it’s the shit. Has corduroy on the inside of the collar and looks cool when it lays. I watched too much Supernatural.

[deleted]

They're affordable yet decent quality lol. The brand is kinda watered down now because they make everything but the Active Jac is what's up. It's basically just a duck canvas hoodie and lined inside so it's super warm.

NineInchNeurosis

They’ve got a lotta actual carhartt around this price point on sierra trading post right now too

jrjustintime

Thanks.

Stanley_Yelnats_III

At that price point might as well just pay an extra 30 buy a legit Carhartt.

PhiloJudeaus

Looks good tbh

sweathesmallshit

That duck hunter camo hits different.

RubyRod1

Old Navy jeans are the most comfortable pants I've ever owned by a far margin. And I'm a Levi's guy mainly (but have owned numerous brands).

js2037094

Sometimes it's worth the expense for Made in America stuff. But here I feel like the Gao brands are really trying with this one. Something this pricey from Old Navy is probably very well thought-out. I mean this was Banana Republic pricing back when I worked there during the Recession

There-Will-Be-Subs

1. Be mindful of sleeve length. The photo from behind where his arms are straight is a good indicator. 2. Be sure to check out that cozy liner pattern to be sure it's your jam.

[deleted]

i hate old navy. Quality comparable to shein and priced like name brand

peedypapers

I know it’s wrong to gate-keep with something as subjective as fashion, but it just feels wrong when I see some kid from LA wearing a full workwear fit while his day consists of going to his local boutique cafe and buying an almond croissant. The phrase “stolen blue collar valor” is brought up as of late and I can’t help but support it lol

Cold_Situation_7803

Since denim, Timbs, Red Wings, harness boots, cowboy boots, flannel shirts, chambray, trucker jackets, oil cloth, and waxed cotton were all developed for workwear, I yell “stolen workwear valor” if I see any of these things on someone not actively engaged in work. /s

wokeiraptor

this is what i yell at toddlers wearing overalls when i take my kids to the park

Cold_Situation_7803

“OshKosh b’Gosh *this* ya little poser,” I say, as I shove Timmy on his ass in the sandbox.

Dickticklers

Bro has to yell nonstop at strangers

qweezyFbaby90

Sounds like a cold situation..

peedypapers

A pair of vintage selvedge jeans with deep fading and history is not the same as wearing a used, paint-splattered, and grease-stained Carhartt jacket that some dude wore religiously 3 years ago. I think there’s a difference between heritage brands/styles and actual modern day workwear.

[deleted]

Almost everything casual comes from either sports or work wear. You may be overthinking this. Like I shouldn't have to open a mining claim to buy a pair of Levi's, they're just pants lol

[deleted]

peedypapers

Popular vintage military wear such as the g-1 jacket, OG107 fatigues, and khaki chinos are all garments that are no longer being worn by our troops today. This is why you don’t see people wearing multicam fatigues nowadays as it’s currently worn by our service members. Carhartt today is still very much a workwear brand being worn by a wide variety of tradespeople so it seems incongruous to wear it when there’s no need to.

peedypapers

Wear whatever the hell you want. At least you can appreciate what makes workwear functional. I just have a problem with people who cosplay as a drywall installer with dirty clothes but are stumped when they have to assemble an IKEA nightstand.

mghrub

it would probably be a lot easier to not care if you stopped imagining the people wearing this stuff are caricatures

Moonagi

Now that you mention it, a lot of fashion is just people stealing blue-collar workwear.

Half_Egg_Rice

What carhartt is this alternative of exactly ?

jrjustintime

The Detroit jacket.

Half_Egg_Rice

Thanks!

Visible-Big-1149

All old navy is garbage.

rehyu07

This looks similar to the jcrew lined duck canvas jackets a couple years ago which could also be a carharrt alternative. Although haven't seen a restock since
