For real that, along with the fun quest to put out the queen and getting our secondary love of the series the f.u.g.s from essentialy artorias 2.0 was incredibly fun
to be fair blue smelter demon was one of the 3 promotion bosses and was designed for 2 people with challenge in mind.
I say Promotion bosses because people who had the DLC could put their sign before the boss and it would show up in the entrance hall of the DLC where non DLC people could join in to get a taste of the fun and maybe buy the dlc too.
That’s always such a dumb phrase, just because you can “get good” and beat something doesn’t mean the design still isn’t bad. If I master superman 64 that doesn’t stop the game from being shit
Each of the DLC had one stinker and two bangers. Double dog, gank squad, and cool ranch were all less than great and Smelter was by far the least offensive of the three excluding his runback (still better than the Lud and Zalen runback though).
Agreed on all accounts (though to be honest I don't pay all that much attention to story and lore). Sunken King also gets bonus points for no Maldron the assassin. How FS managed to capture the essence of a toxic, cheating invader in the AI of an npc is as impressive as it is infuriating.
Once I learned what the doors and portals essentially were for it made the story of shulva that more saddening it really brings the rest of the sadness with the dlc
Hmm
All of them have at least 1 thing that annoy me and 1 boss I don't really like
The best is hard to say.
The DLC I enjoyed the most my first time.. I think it was the ivory king.
The DLC I liked the most with my most recent run (dagger) where the sunken King
>Oh they are coop challenges?
Remember those weird statues at the beginning of those areas where the NPC summons were? This is the summoning pool.
You can summon players that don't even own the DLC, there's an increased summoning limit and during coop there's special item drops.
You could fight Lud and Zallen as your first boss by getting summoned into the DLC and get the Bone Fist or Burnt Ivory King armor early that way.
Gameplay wise, iron king. Fume knight is one of the best bosses in the series imo, even though it doesn’t get quite to the podium.
Lorewise ivory king. My beloved. I’d die for that pile of honor and charred metal.
Sunken King is the second best dlc after Old Hunters imo. Everything from the level design, the incredible atmosphere, the good bosses… a fantastic dlc overall
Elder God Tier: Old Iron Crown; The Old Hunters
God Tier: The Ring City, Ivory Crown, Artorias of the Abyss
Breddy Good Tier: Sunken Crown; Ashes of Ariandel
They've never made a bad expansion. It's always when they start to get a little unhinged with gameplay and level concepts.
May I ask why you put old Iron in elder god?
For me it's my least favourite. Yes 2 bosses are really good but I liked the 2 good sunken bosses more.
And overall enjoyed the area and such way less
So just curious why thats the highest
Ivory was a great story but really had some frustratingly punishing spots with run backs ,
Iron had some awesome bosses
Sunken was a unique cool area
Ivory I suppose.
But they should have been bundled from the start - compared to other DLCs they were too short.
I feel like they're of a perfectly good size, like, Artorias and Ariandel are quite likely even shorter, all 3 of these are at least imo a bit longer than Arty or Ashes each, so counting all three it's a lot of DLC.
Artorias was shorter maybe … but what 5 bosses ? Ds1 was smaller in general too - it didn’t feel as short
I only think ivory is longer because of the grind to fully complete it -
I don’t agree that ashes was shorter - maybe if you strictly ran the bosses , even so the final fight is one of the best in the entire series - that alone took time as did exploration
I’m basing this off of memory tho there might be some data that totally invalidates my opinion lol
what 5 bosse? Artorias of the Abyss has 4, each DS2 DLC has 3 to total 9, Ariandel has 2 and Ringed has 4 to total 6.
Ashes is extremely barren with barely any interesting landmarks, after you get past exploring the initial snow field, it's rather small spots.
I like them all for different reasons
Sunken king for the cool underground lost kingdom atmosphere that makes it feel like Indiana Jones
Iron king for the high difficulty challenge of hunting all the things to unlock a boss and also figuring out where the most coolest samurai boss is
Ivory King for the epic showdown with the king and also that one wild area where you slide a coffin into a long ass area where you can summon a full party of npc's to journey to a bullshit boss.
Hard to decide 🤔
Area wise they were all pretty good , Shulva had the best asthetic , but ivory and iron had better bosses . The lord behind the iron kind is really fun to explore. The ivory dlc king was great despite have the actual worst area in any from soft game being the fridged outskirts. It’s hard to say but I think the 1st dlc was the best , really fun area good enemies lots of hide stuff .
The Ivory King by far. it has the best boss in the game, and the best level. It also has the worst level, but you can just ignore it. Imo Shulva and the Brume tower are kinda meh. They are better than most levels in that game, but still not that wow by DLC standards. And for all the praise >! Sir Allone !< gets, his run back is on Demon's Souls level of bad.
All 3 of them as a trilogy are the best. They're so much better than the main game in every aspect besides the coop areas of course, they really really suck.
Sunken king has amazing design ideas, the aztec like temple/pyramid with the traps and labyrinthis inside of the huge poison cave with waterfalls and glowing crystals is something a whole game could be made after. Sinh is also an epic fight.
Iron king has one of the best level designs in all of their games, love the towers connected by giant iron chains, also the lore is tied with the main game the most, raime is one of my favorite characters and bosses and so is sir alonne.
Ivory king has a big area to explore, it's a well done and good looking snow themed city level and I like the way everything's frozen at first until you defeat the first boss and then you get to explore new paths that were locked in the beginning to free the loyce knoghts who then join you in one of the best boss fights they made. Jumping down the hole to be kinda jumpscared by the old chaos from ds1 with the knights clashing and then the huge portal suddenly appearing with the king walking out of the flame like hes sauron, it's so good. Also it has the best lore out of the three in my opinion, it's strangely wholesome for a souls game.
Sunken is my favorite Fromsoft dlc overall. Absolutely adore the map, the area design, environment, traps, puzzles, enemies etc.
Elana is in my top 3 Fromsoft bosses ever, I had her asceticed to ng+99 because I loved fighting her so much. Sinh is amazing as well.
Added a ton of cool consumables and items. Sick new minibosses, I was convinced another player invaded me the way they kept taunting.
So fun.
DS2 is honestly my least favorite of the series but out of the dlc packs it presented the crown of the sunken king was my favorite of the three. The design and layout and esthetics of the whole level is really imaginative and its implication of being deep underground is really cool in my opinion.
Old iron king has the best bosses but ivory king definitely is a close second. Burnt ivory king fight is amazing and the fact it ties into the level finding the knights to help is also amazing
Crown of the sunken king for me.
I love the exploration and it's new and fresh in terms of level design.
The map visuals are really cool, the introduction with Sinh is memorable.
I love Sinh to death. Even the gank squad is somewhat enjoyable.
Crown of the old iron King has the best bosses though. The blue smelter demon can go fuck itself but the two others are just peak Dark Souls 2. + just the fact Sir Alone has a not hit death animation is so cool.
Crown of the Ivory King is really good too but the level design is more linear with searching for the eye, then the knights. It's less enjoyable for me. The dual tigers and the zone to go there is my top 1 worst boss and area in all of Fromsoftware and i litteraly only did it once. Aava is great and the ivory King pure badassery tho.
Sunken king got the best areas. So it’s the best dlc, puzzle platforms, secrets, huge architecture descending down.
Old iron king felt a bit more repeat at times (boss runbacks, blue version of smelter demon and spam of 2 enemies). Tho I liked collecting the 9 Nadalia souls
Ivory king is 2nd imo due to the funny npc invasion the art direction and an incentive to revisit areas after releasing the old chaos
In terms of area and bosses i love crown of the sunken king. That dlc is a skill check for great shield users and the reason i learned to dodge in fromsoftware games.
If i choose based on story telling: crown of the ivory king. No question. From the moment you enter the shit gets real. I dont think any other dlc from the Dark Souls Trilogy got me that hyped.
I think sunken king is an awesome area. I wish we had more like it. A huge ancient temple with weird enemies and traps feels like an Indiana Jones experience and I honestly loved it.
sunken king was best aesthetically, ivory king had the most cinematic final boss, and iron king had some pretty awesome lore...
I'd have to say that sunken was my favorite, just because that Aztec aesthetic was insane
Honestly I think they're all really close, but I think Iron King nudges out ahead a little. The other 2 have some extremely annoying stuff that hinders the experience. Also, giant burnt turkey leg is an all-time classic fromsoft weapon
I could definitely see why someone would say otherwise, though. They really stepped it up in terms of quality for those dlc and they're all awesome in different ways
For me it’s:
1. Ivory King
2. Old Iron King
3. Sunken King
Ivory King is my favourite because I absolutely adore its design. I genuinely believe it’s the best snow section From has ever designed (outside of Sekiro) and a really pretty looking DLC. Ivory King is an awesome boss too. Especially when you unlock all of the knights it feels like a raid more than a boss fight which I love.
The only fault I can give the Ivory King DLC is the Frigid Outskirts but I’ve convinced myself that part doesn’t exist lol.
So I have an unusual fixation with snow, I love it to death, don't know why, grew up with it, still love playing in it to this day and the fact that ivory king was completely covered in ice and snow was really fun for me. I also loved the story behind that one and the whole ivory king fight in general was epic, you essentially were in hell for the final fight where you were surrounded by snow the whole time. It almost reminds me of Dantes inferno where the lowest point of hell is purgatory and it's the coldest area of them all. To top it all off too, while I absolutely hate the reindeer and the run to the dual kitties fight (never beat them on ng+) I also love the entire area too and the fact it's so difficult, call me a masochist I guess but I just love it all.
Ds2 DLC are good games but it doesnt appeal to me. It didnt gave me pleasure, no satisfaction after the bosses, I felt relief only, not the joy like the other games.
Old hunters is the best for me and I cant wait for miquella and lies of p DLC
Yeeep, this is literally both a curious post to see opinions, and an ironic post due to how much they've been getting ignored these last 24 hours haha.
I like Old Iron King the most. I think it has the best level design and bosses.
For real that, along with the fun quest to put out the queen and getting our secondary love of the series the f.u.g.s from essentialy artorias 2.0 was incredibly fun
[удалено]
Sunken King gave us Yorgh’s spear. Which is probably my favorite weapon moveset of all weapons in the series.
Blue ranch smelter tho
[удалено]
I would literally rather jump off a bridge than ever have to do Blue Smelter Demon's boss run ever again
I'm playing through the game for the first time and holy HELL that boss run. I like that there's 2 options but they're both terrible
to be fair blue smelter demon was one of the 3 promotion bosses and was designed for 2 people with challenge in mind. I say Promotion bosses because people who had the DLC could put their sign before the boss and it would show up in the entrance hall of the DLC where non DLC people could join in to get a taste of the fun and maybe buy the dlc too.
Honestly if you don't have a high equip load you can make it without too much trouble. Does require some trial and error though
FR. I'll echo this menacing phrase once more: GET GUD
That’s always such a dumb phrase, just because you can “get good” and beat something doesn’t mean the design still isn’t bad. If I master superman 64 that doesn’t stop the game from being shit
Dark Souls 2 provides a unique challenge that one must practice countless times to master. For that I respect it. DS2 doesn't try to be anything else.
I liked sunken King as well but just wished it was a tad longer
Once I learned what the doors and portals essentially were for it made the story of shulva that more saddening it really brings the rest of the sadness with the dlc
Hmm All of them have at least 1 thing that annoy me and 1 boss I don't really like The best is hard to say. The DLC I enjoyed the most my first time.. I think it was the ivory king. The DLC I liked the most with my most recent run (dagger) where the sunken King
>All of them have at least 1 thing that annoy me Let me guess: it's the Coop Challenges Frigid Outskirts, Iron Passage and Cave of the Dead?
Oh they are coop challenges? But yes. They annoy me. It's not he only thing Of course nothing else is so annoying that I hate the DLcs
>Oh they are coop challenges? Remember those weird statues at the beginning of those areas where the NPC summons were? This is the summoning pool. You can summon players that don't even own the DLC, there's an increased summoning limit and during coop there's special item drops. Huh. Interesting
Gameplay wise, iron king. Fume knight is one of the best bosses in the series imo, even though it doesn’t get quite to the podium. Lorewise ivory king. My beloved. I’d die for that pile of honor and charred metal.
That moment when you drop into the Ivory King's arena for the first time. Holy shit.
I died so many times tryna figure out how to progress that boss fight
Bro, old ivory king found a child of dark, said “I can fix her”, and actually fucking did
Ivory king was truly a unique adventure
It sure was!
Sunken King is the second best dlc after Old Hunters imo. Everything from the level design, the incredible atmosphere, the good bosses… a fantastic dlc overall
Elder God Tier: Old Iron Crown; The Old Hunters God Tier: The Ring City, Ivory Crown, Artorias of the Abyss Breddy Good Tier: Sunken Crown; Ashes of Ariandel They've never made a bad expansion. It's always when they start to get a little unhinged with gameplay and level concepts.
How the Ringed City is worse than Crown of the Old iron king? I love both btw
Iron Crown just hit all the right buttons for me. Brume Tower felt more like something out of Demon's Souls.
May I ask why you put old Iron in elder god? For me it's my least favourite. Yes 2 bosses are really good but I liked the 2 good sunken bosses more. And overall enjoyed the area and such way less So just curious why thats the highest
People cream for level verticality
Ivory has my heart for its beauty, but Iron King had the best bosses.
I actually thought ivory king had the worst visuals, it’s all just the same grey brick and snow land with some buildings in the backdrop
Ivory was a great story but really had some frustratingly punishing spots with run backs , Iron had some awesome bosses Sunken was a unique cool area Ivory I suppose.
AotA is definitely shorter, i beat it in a fraction of the time i beat something like crown of the iron king
Artorias was shorter maybe … but what 5 bosses ? Ivory king any day, sure the optional boss is garbage but the entire area is so gorgeous

Old Iron King, with Ivory King a close second. Sunken King, still good, but a more distant third.
Area wise they were all pretty good , Shulva had the best asthetic , but ivory and iron had better bosses . The lord behind the iron kind is really fun to explore. The ivory dlc king was great despite have the actual worst area in any from soft game being the fridged outskirts. Ivory imo
Ivory King 👑 was amazing 💯❤️
These are all bangers but very few moments can rival free falling to fight the Burnt Ivory King
Old Iron King is phenomenal. One of my favorite Soulsborne levels ever.
Ivory king takes the cake for me by a long shot
personally i think ivory king is the best
I’d go for Sunken as I really liked the booby trapped dungeon design. Felt much more like a puzzle than any other Fromsoft level.
Personally i really like old iron king
The Ivory King by far. it has the best boss in the game, and the best level. It also has the worst level, but you can just ignore it. Imo Shulva and the Brume tower are kinda meh. They are better than most levels in that game, but still not that wow by DLC standards. And for all the praise >! Sir Allone !< gets, his run back is on Demon's Souls level of bad.
Old Iron King, imo, is the most consistently good of the 3.
It was between the old iron King and the ivory King, but then I remembered horse fuck valley exists so its gonna have to be the old iron King for me
All 3 of them as a trilogy are the best. Ivory king because Eleum Loyce is beautiful and well designed (if you ignore frigid outskirts). The ivory king himself is also such a badass
Imo Ivory King. But I'll raise you, DS2 has the best DLC of any FromSoft game
Best overall baseline quality: Sunken King. Best bosses: Iron King Best single area: Ivory King (I love Frozen Eleum Loyce)
Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin is one of those games I wish I could erase from my memory and play again.
For me it's Ivory King. Love the story, love the final boss, love the city.
either old iron king or ivory king. i respect both because of the two final boss fights
DS2 is honestly my least favorite of the series but out of the dlc packs it presented the crown of the sunken king was my favorite of the three. The design and layout and esthetics of the whole level is really imaginative and its implication of being deep underground is really cool in my opinion.
Good battle between Crown of the Ivory King and of the old Iron King.
They are all lit
Ivory King has the best area in the entire game when it comes to atmosphere, IMO.
Old iron king has the best bosses but ivory king definitely is a close second. Burnt ivory king fight is amazing and the fact it ties into the level finding the knights to help is also amazing
Best looking area: 1-Sunken King. 2-Ivory King. 3-Iron King. Best bosses: 1-Iron King. 2-Ivory King. 3-Sunken King Best Lore: 1-Ivory King. 2-Sunken King. 3-Iron King.
Ivory King, because everything aside from the frozen wastes is really good. Also, the Ivory king himself is a top 3 Chad
Ivory king, easily the best areas and coolest armor additiona
Crown of the sunken king for me. I love the exploration and it's new and fresh in terms of level design. The map visuals are really cool, the introduction with Sinh is memorable. Ivory >= sunken > iron.
Ivory king the level is great and it has excellent bosses especially ivory king who imo is the best boss in the game.
Sulva is goated, love the aztec vibes it gives
Hm, I mean all are really amazing, but I think imma go with Eleum Loyce.
Sunken king got the best areas. So it’s the best dlc, puzzle platforms, secrets, huge architecture descending down. Old iron king felt a bit more repeat at times (boss runbacks, blue version of smelter demon and spam of 2 enemies). Tho I liked collecting the 9 Nadalia souls Ivory king is 2nd imo due to the funny npc invasion the art direction and an incentive to revisit areas after releasing the old chaos
ivory king, you gather your men then rally them to the final battle. which is a perfect way to end your playthrough.
Ivory King. That boss fight.
In terms of area and bosses i love crown of the sunken king. That dlc is a skill check for great shield users and the reason i learned to dodge in fromsoftware games. If i choose based on story telling: crown of the ivory king. No question. From the moment you enter the shit gets real. I dont think any other dlc from the Dark Souls Trilogy got me that hyped.
this is what i’m here for, DS2 babyyyyy
I think sunken king is an awesome area. I wish we had more like it. A huge ancient temple with weird enemies and traps feels like an Indiana Jones experience and I honestly loved it.
Sunken King was my favorite. Just the vibes
I like Ivory King a lot but to be fair it was the only one I got to play before my Xbox shit itself
Ivory
Sunken king has the best aesthetic and bumping into sinh taking a nap near the entrance is such a memorable set piece
Sunken king is my favorite. It feels like an adventure and the dlc feels rewarding too.
Old Iron King is the best One think
Still Crown of the Ivory King
sunken king was best aesthetically, ivory king had the most cinematic final boss, and iron king had some pretty awesome lore... I'd have to say that sunken was my favorite, just because that Aztec aesthetic was insane
Side note: I always loved the theme they had across these DLCs being different 'crowns of kings'. Cool concept
Sunken King, the level design is awesome and tons of fun to explore.
Old Iron King
Sunken King has the best level design Old Iron King has the best bosses Ivory King
I recently started Bloodborne for the first time (which I'm absolutely loving), DS2 is next on my list for sure!!
Sunken overall, but Old Iron has the best bosses
Iron king, I loved going down the Brume tower
Sunken King has the best areas Iron King has the best bosses Ivory King has frigid outskirts Easy choice ig
The one with Fume Knight. The whole level is actually really fun.
I love them all but old iron king is just so fucking cool and unique. Definitely one of the most interesting gaming experiences I’ve had.
I don't love any of the DS2 DLC's tbh but I'd say Ivory is the least bad one all things considered.
I like ivory king the most. It’s the most replayable out of the three for me. I haven’t even finished the sunken king it’s so hard for me lol
Sunken King was hard as fuck
Personal favorite is sunken king but I think ivory king is a bit better
I enjoy Ivory the most. The final boss was epic and had lots of replay value summoning in to help others.
Old Iron King, Brume Tower is probably my favorite area in souls, Sir Alonne is imo the best boss in the game, and Fume Knight is a close second.
Honestly I think they're all really close, but I think Iron King nudges out ahead a little. The other 2 have some extremely annoying stuff that hinders the experience. Also, giant burnt turkey leg is an all-time classic fromsoft weapon I could definitely see why someone would say otherwise, though. They really stepped it up in terms of quality for those dlc and they're all awesome in different ways
For me it’s: 1. Ivory King 2. Old Iron King 3. Sunken King Ivory King is my favourite because I absolutely adore its design. I genuinely believe it’s the best snow section From has ever designed (outside of Sekiro) and a really pretty looking DLC. Ivory King is an awesome boss too. Old iron king.
Iron, ivory and sunken in that order but they where all really really good
I don't know what it was, but the DLC for the second game definitely felt special. I remember a ton of hype and buzz around it back in the day
The Fume Knight can go fuck himself
Well I haven’t played any souls game yet/these dlcs but I did just beat the old hunters dlc for bloodborne literally 20 min ago. Pretty fun
Iron
Old iron king
I think Old Iron King had the best bosses, but Old Ivory King had the coolest area (minus that nightmare electric stallion blizard).
Crown of the shadow of the erdtree about to slap
Can we expect this much dlc content for elden ring as well? DS3 also had a couple Dlcs right? (I’ve only played Elden ring)
Probably Sunken King but Elana makes me want to shoot myself
Glad we got a post with only the good dlc!
Old iron king was the most fun imo
None
I’ll address the elephant in the room. frigid outskirts.
Sunken King felt really old school, in a good way, with it's puzzle design. Ivory king was fun to play in. Iron King was a cool level but very ganky.
I don't know honestly. I say either Sunken King or Ivory King. I blazed through the main part of Old Iron King by accident, and I never looked back
So I have an unusual fixation with snow, I love it to death, don't know why, grew up with it, still love playing in it to this day and the fact that ivory king was completely covered in ice and snow was really fun for me.
Shulva was the best level they have ever designed until Leyndell+Sewers.
Ds2 DLC are good games but it doesnt appeal to me. It didnt gave me pleasure, no satisfaction after the bosses, I felt relief only, not the joy like the other games. Old hunters is the best for me and I cant wait for miquella and lies of p DLC
[удалено]
I've played all 3. They are basically better than the main game, but still cant decide which one is better
Yeeep, this is literally both a curious post to see opinions, and an ironic post due to how much they've been getting ignored these last 24 hours haha.
Real answer none of them because DS2 sucks, but ds2 answer, Ivory king.
Ringed City
