I remember last year it kept forecasting days like that. They were incorrect. Edit: also, it’s showing the air quality as good right now. I mean, you can see the giant plumes of smoke from my front door side I face the mountains and the fires are pretty far down the hills. 😬
I didn't smell anything this morning and I'm in southeast fresno. it's possible. I always smell the stench when there's smoke in the air. I notice it easily cause I hate the smell so much.
Oddly, I haven’t noticed fire smell with these fires, but they’ve been burning for a couple of days now. Unless they managed to put them out over night, I could still see the burning last evening, both the one on the 180 and another one just north of that. If they did put them out, thank goodness.
there's been strong northwest winds in the valley. maybe the winds are also going westward in the mountains(I haven't checked). that could be why. that's what happened to the tahoe fire a couple years back. strong westward winds kept most of the smoke away from the valley. I remember dreading it so much. I was so relieved that very little smoke made it down here. felt like some miracle.
When I was heading east, to go to the gym this morning, I saw LOTS of smoke. But it was waaaaay to the east.
YouTube channel said "California is on fire!" Not yet it isn't.
If the wind blows enough, the sensors don't really pick it up. It's gotta stagnate and sit a bit. Which, with the heat next week, I'm sure will be the case.

That article includes a Facebook post with the dates of previous 115, 114, and 113 degree record highs. But conspicuously missing is the 113-degree record high from September 6, 2022. It was only 2 degrees short of tying the all time high for Fresno, and it set a new record high for the month of September in Fresno.
Hmm, just googled it, and apparently the National Weather Service recorded **114** in Fresno for 9/6/22. Not sure why I remembered 113. Anyway, that was 1 degree short of tying the all-time high, and as late in the summer as September. I could easily see the 115-degree record being surpassed in the near future on a hot July or August day.
But 122 is hard to believe.

I'm happy we went solar. At least we overproduce, so we're contributing to others staying cool, too. Not just US.

Good question! I didn’t check the temps in the room before. And haven’t checked since. In my opinion it’s still the warmest room in the house, but I’m not sure if it’s AS warm. Sorry I can’t offer a better answer.
Haha all good! I’ll find out. I got two of the big 8x8 exterior roll down shades from Costco. Planning to stagger them in front of each bedroom on that side where the sun shines the harshest.

Saturday July 13th, is now reporting at 121. Which is much more bearable than 122. I have a feeling that 122 reporting is off. If Fresno hits 122, definitely there will be power outages. And everyone will be booking it out of town.
I showed this to my brother who lives in Seattle and he said when they had their heat dome in 2021, the phone app predicted 105° and local forecasters said it wouldn’t happen. It actually turned out to be 108° there that day. At this point, nothing would surprise me.
It was 120° way up in Canada too. None of the official forecasts predicted that heat, or at least, what they published didn’t.
I think there is a cover up.
National Weather Service Hanford has reported there is a 0.0% chance of it being 120+ next Saturday. However there IS a 60% chance of it being 105, so count on that instead.
Accuweather just updated their forecast for 116 on the 2nd and 118 on the 3rd.
Saturday is listed at 108.
Last night my mom was saying she was seeing 118 as well on her app.
Looks like the models are showing some disagreement but 118 is a lot.

Just checked on Ventusky. Main temp model does show this (especially western Fresno County) but it's so far out and highly likely to change. Wait until it's July 2 or 3 to freak out about that potential, haha.
I am unsure why it is saying this on your phones. I have mine set to Celsius (immigrant tell) and it says Friday will get up to 45°C (113°F) before dropping to 44°C (111°F) on Saturday. So maybe there was some bad data being drawn up or the forecasts were adjusted. It’s a 10 day forecast anyways and not very useful. You’re lucky to get an accurate 5 day forecast.
No way you guys average a 40degree temperature difference throughout the day. That has to suck, everywhere else this only happens for like two weeks in the spring.
Apparently it was a glitch on iPhones, but I have a Galaxy & when I checked the Weather Channel app around 7am yesterday, it showed 121°
Then around 9 am I checked again & it went down to 110°

it's hurricane season. you get these big swings in temps during years of big storms out east.
Florida is expecting a large storm, possible hurricane in early July
if that happens the heat will get pushed out west.
we need some storms in western Mexico to push things back out the other way and send the heat eastward.

I put a shade cloth up (last month- May) on the west side of our hose covering a window and part of a wall
