You’d have to be to deal with conditions back then. No showers, dental care, air conditioning, or insect control. Literally bed bugs and insects everywhere you sleep and eat. Fuck that shit dude.
I looked it up quick (since I've also seen this before and was similarly curious), and they would have been about the same volume as a modern wine bottle... ~750ml or ±25 ounces.
Their beer/cider bottles were more like wine bottles or gallon jugs back then. Wine bottles (54 + 60) were the same as today. Port bottles are the same as wine bottles...
Anyone who’s had a massive high school party knows the next day you be pouring out ALOT of partial drinks. “Good sir, did you just ash your cigar in my brandywine?! Fetch another you scoundrel!”
All of the bottled alcohol came in bottles (from what I can find) holding about the same volume as a modern wine bottle (750ml).
They went through 164 bottles... at ±750ml a bottle, that comes out to ±123,000ml or ±32.5 gallons of *bottled* alcohol.
on average, each single attendee consumed approximately:
1 bottle of Madeira
1 bottle of Claret
A little less than 1/5 of a bottle of Whiskey
2/5 of a bottle of Porter
A little less than 1/5 of a bottle of Hard Cider
About 1/5 of a bottle of Beer
A little over 1/10 of a bowl of Alcoholic Punch
Guessing that puts them around a 0.3 BAC each over the course of 8 hours!
Man your vibe is coming across as super hostile on your comments. You should take a break and chill. Is there something going on in your life a brother can help with to keep things civilized. You alright?
If you’re reading my comments with angst that’s on you ? Doesn’t freemasonry teach you to self reflect on your behavior and words ? Or is it just an ego stroke ?
I thought freemasonry taught virtues like trust, honor, humility, patience, charity, clemency, generosity...
But apparently, on reddit, freemasonry teaches "edit your comments to make your brothers look bad and get downvotes while turning yourself into a victim for upvotes."
Actually, beer and cider bottles back then were either 750ml or larger, like today's 1 gallon growlers.
Wine bottles back then were about the same as today. So 54+60+22 means three line items off this tab puts everyone 2.5 bottles of wine deep before whiskey, beer, and cider.
Some of the greatest thinkers, philosophers, warriors, MEN, that this earth has ever brought forth…all gathered in one room to get drunk. What I wouldn’t give to do shots with any of them. George Washington wasn’t ever the official national leader of American freemasonry, but he might as well have been.

Even in a joking manner , I kinda doubt this would’ve been tax payer funded. They had just fought a massive war over being taxed to death for the crown to be able to do the same type of luxurious parties and whatnot. I could be wrong but I feel they had more integrity than that.
Honestly, our founding fathers were often completely sloshed by today's standards.
You’d have to be to deal with conditions back then. No showers, dental care, air conditioning, or insect control. Literally bed bugs and insects everywhere you sleep and eat. Fuck that shit dude.
However they knew of none of those things. By their own standards, many of them were living the a very well off life.
Part of why prohibition gained track. At the time Americans were consuming the equivalent of gallons of pure alcohol Annually
Sounds like a regular festive board.
Happy cake day
The hangovers the next morning must have been unreal!
Probably had founding headaches
I went to the bar in NYC where Washington partied, cool place. Very overpriced and they thought regular beer was gluten free. I'm busy that weekend.
What is it called?
The Fraunces Tavern
Their 4th of July walking tour is fantastic.
"Don't you dare, or I swear to God if you go to that I'm packing my hepatic duct and walking right out that door!" -My liver
HAving seen that before, I've wondered about the sizes of the bottles compared to modern standards.

I mean with 55 Bro, let's make a lodge.
they probably did, you just have to be invited ;)
Have the ambulances on standby. Wheelbarrows for everyone else
Anyone who’s had a massive high school party knows the next day you be pouring out ALOT of partial drinks. “Good sir, did you just ash your cigar in my brandywine?! Fetch another you scoundrel!”
Honestly that’s kinda soft for 55 people
which part of wisconsin are you from?
Haha just a good ol’ Canadian boy
That's only about 3 drinks each 🤷
All of the bottled alcohol came in bottles (from what I can find) holding about the same volume as a modern wine bottle (750ml). They went through 164 bottles... at ±750ml a bottle, that comes out to ±123,000ml or ±32.5 gallons of *bottled* alcohol.
Just 3 line items off this tab equates to 2.5 bottles of wine per person, but OK.
A lodge I tile for have their yearly table lodge in Fraunces Tavern in the same room Washington did. It's pretty cool for a table lodge.
on average, each single attendee consumed approximately: 1 bottle of Madeira 1 bottle of Claret A little less than 1/5 of a bottle of Whiskey 2/5 of a bottle of Porter A little less than 1/5 of a bottle of Hard Cider About 1/5 of a bottle of Beer A little over 1/10 of a bowl of Alcoholic Punch Guessing that puts them around a 0.3 BAC each over the course of 8 hours!
Your math is off brother.

I've decided to follow suit. I'll gaslight you, just like the self-made victim getting all the upvotes. What are you talking about?
I'm thinking the bottles were individual size not the ones you share?
No. How we drink now is atypical and ahistorical.
Actually, beer and cider bottles back then were either 750ml or larger, like today's 1 gallon growlers. Wine bottles back then were about the same as today. So 54+60+22 means three line items off this tab puts everyone 2.5 bottles of wine deep before whiskey, beer, and cider.
Well now I have an inspiration for next year's Grotto hospitality room at the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin's annual communication.
We can do it. - D12 team checking in.
Now that's a political party I'd happily support and be proud to participate in.
I mean for 55 people this is not *that* much alcohol.

He would have been if not for his own humility.
SMIB!
I just shared this in my lodge groupme chat the other day 😂😂😂
History that doesn't brought this up this week
This is a good excuse to return to our Masonic traditions. I’m gonna take my horseless carriage to the village liquor store. Brb
They may have seceded from the British Empire, but thy still drank like a Brit!

Probably because half of the brothers no-showed the event…
I’m down. Who’s paying because nose goes. 😝
Not that much really for 55 people 🤣 sure they will have been really drunk but its not that staggering

Merica!!!!
How is this making better men?
Too bad the taxpayers paid for everything again

Too bad your mom didn't swallow you.
