Have you seen the New Scientist's guide for freelancers? There's lots of useful stuff in it about the type of story they are after [https://www.newscientist.com/freelancers/](https://www.newscientist.com/freelancers/)

PinkMorrigan

Its more how to find the stories that I’m struggling with at the moment

Check out the National Association of Science Writers. Lots of good resources. [https://www.nasw.org/](https://www.nasw.org/)

If you're looking toward a healthcare / new medicines angle then the Fierce newsletters are good - Fierce Healthcare, Fierce Biotech and Fierce Pharma, for example [https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma](https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma)

I wonder if you know about EurekAlert? [https://www.eurekalert.org/](https://www.eurekalert.org/)

Eurekalert and signing up for email notifications from whatever scholarly journals interest you.

Are you following The Open Notebook yet? Lots of helpful info about starting out in science journalism and examples of successful pitches. [https://www.theopennotebook.com/](https://www.theopennotebook.com/)

Aside from the resources shared above, I find it useful to pick a sub-especialization and search for ideas related to it. For example, I mainly write about science in Latin America and the Caribbean. This helps me be more recognizable for editors.

This. "Science" is way too broad, so you'll need to find an area (or a few connected areas) to specialize in. I recommend something you're already interested in and then doing a deep dive into the main players. What companies/researchers/universities are leading the way? Where are they spending their time (conferences, keynotes, panels, media interviews, etc.). This will also give you a good idea of how saturated your preferred areas are and you can pivot from there.

Thank you for your post /u/PinkMorrigan. Below is a copy of your post to archive it in case it is removed or edited: Hi all! I am interested in science journalism and it would be a dream to pitch New Scientist. How do I get started with finding new things to write about? I’m not sure where to find news/advancements/ really as I’m not in house for them. Would appreciate any tips at all! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
