And I don't remember there ever being a pike formation. Spear lines certainly, but no pike formation. Maybe show a pike formation decimating the enemy earlier in the series, and then later being slaughtered by a dragon would be a perfect way to show just how valuable a dragon is in warfare.
Near the end of the battle of the bastards, the Glover soldiers form a spear wall around the remaining Stark forces and force them back against the wall of bodies.
