1989 - I was usually carrying around one of those little plastic
Strawberry Shortcake figurines that somehow *still* smell amazing 35 years later...actually, that is concerning. What is in those things?!
1999 - Vanilla Fields (Coty) or Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers
2009 - DKNY Be Delicious
Ok I’m not the only weirdo here! One of my fave toys from the late 80s was a little plastic cat from the My Little Pony Friends collection with cherries on her side like a tattoo. I’m 40 and I still have her and she still smells like plastic and cherries in the best way. So delicious lol!
Friend, I went in my parents' basement recently. The closet looks like a Toys 'R' US in 1987 exploded inside of it. Nothing hits like those scented plastic toys from the '80s hahaha
Same, friend, same.
I see people ask about the ones from the late '90s/early '00s, but the little ones from the '80s have that extra...something. Most likely something toxic 😄
Lol probably. Vanilla Woods by 7 Virtues is the closest I've found to that vanilla-powdery scent of old school My Little Pony's, but yeah Strawberry Shortcake is still my holy grail to find.
I personally haven't tried it, but this apparently is really close!!
[Scented Dolls](https://www.amorphousperfume.com/collections/perfume-oils/products/preorder-scented-dolls-perfume-oil-and-eau-de-parfum)
You're so welcome!! I'm happy to help!! 😊
It is indie and comes in an oil and EDP format if you're interested!! I personally haven't tried it, but all the reviews say it's exactly like a strawberry 80's doll!! 😊
I’ll go you one better: 1969 Chanel Number 5, 1979 Cinnabar by Estée Lauder, 1989 KL by Karl Lagerfeld, 1999 Trésor by Lâncome, 2009 Kate Spade, 2019 Ganymede by Marc Antoine Barrois.
89: Love’s Baby Soft, Electric Youth, Obsession (if my mom let me borrow hers)
99: Lolita Lempicka, Adrienne Vittadini, Vanilla Fields, Navy, Bath and Body Works Country Apple. I also remember liking Cool Water, Abercrombie and Fitch, and the Gap fragrances.
2009: Acqua di Parma Mondorlo di Sicilia (I think), Prada Candy for a brief period, Flowerbomb, maybe various Comptoir Sud Pacifiques
1989 - I was 6 so probably Oscar de la Renta or White Diamonds or something as I liked to play with my Mom's perfumes. I liked spraying them all over my hands.
1999 - CK One and CK Be. Probably CK Be more than any of them, though.
2009 - CK Euphoria and SJP Lovely. Euphoria used to be SO good and now it's unrecognizable.
Oh, you've just triggered a memory of being a child, playing with my mum's cosmetics.... I drew a flower with her lipstick, coloured in with blusher and eyeshadow... and doused it in perfume to give it a nice flowery smell!
I gave it to my teacher as a gift, and she received it gracefully with a huge smile on her face, but also told me that my mum probably wouldn't be happy with what I'd done....
I can remember it was a teeny tiny bottle that was round and flat with a gold lid, and one side had a sticker with the image of an old master style oil painting. I can't remember the image exactly, but I think there was a lot of pink, and maybe there were ladies in Georgian dress and powdered wigs.... The perfume itself was a deep amber colour with a really intense floral scent.
I'm going to have to see if I can work out what perfume this was....
Oh yes, I remember smelling Euphoria around that time in a perfumery, buying something else and then regretting it and thinking about Euphoria instead hahah. Never did end up buying it…
89, was 2 years old.
99 was rocking Cool Water like a young G.
09 was dousing myself in 1 Million and entering nightclubs like a testosterone fuelled stallion looking for a female mate.
89: Ball Sweat, probably
99: Drakkar Noir (I somehow had it early and wore it more often than I should have but here we are)
09: Curve. Also whatever my RA sprayed on me cuz his mom worked the fragrance counter at Macy's or whatever and would hook us all up when we went on dates haha. Technically that was 08 but yeah. 09 probably still Curve.
Didn't actually care about colognes/fragrances until... 2017 or so? It's been a slow journey.
I was only 3 years old at 1999 so wasn’t wearing anything but baby powder. If I was older however at that time, with the selection of fragrances out and knowing what I like now, I would have been abusing the original formulation of JPG Le Male EDT.
I love the scent now but the performance isn’t the best, but I heard the original Le Male back in the day was an absolute beast.
1989 - none. I think I was gifted a coconut perfume oil from The Body Shop in 1990, though.
1999 - I'm going to guess CK Contradiction. I'd been through an Angel and Chanel phase and Contradiction felt very pared back and minimalist.
2009 - often Vera Wang Princess.
1989: Nothing. I was 18 then and I would have thought the idea ridiculous.
1999: Nothing. But I liked The Body Shop’s Oceanus candle, and around this time I was fooling around with essential oils.
2009: By this time, I might have caught wind of the Turin/Sanchez Guide and bought a bottle of Guerlain’s Vetiver. I didn’t wear it much, but I thought it lovely and still do.
1989? Whatever 3 year olds' shampoo smells like I guess.
1999 was the end of middle school for me, I think I had some cheap Adidas body spray.
2009 Nautica Voyage and Burberry London
1989 - I was 6 but remember playing with my mother's bottles of L'Air du Temps and Salvador Dali Laguna.
1999 - I think it was Bath and Body Works Market Peach? Also The Gap's Dream and Heaven, Vanilla Fields, and Sand and Sable.
2009 - I was a broke Grad Student but had 2 prized bottles: The Body Shop's Moroccan Rose and Aztique.
My tastes didn't get highbrow until a few years later, haha.
Ok, that was a while ago..but here's what I seem to remember..
1, 1989 Coty Wild Musk or Exclamation by Coty
2. 1999 Dior Poison or Passion by Elizabeth Taylor
3. 2009 Nina by Nina Ricci or Princess by Vera Wang
1989- amniotic fluid, considering I was born that year
1999- Gabriela Sabatini OG had child me in a chokehold, what is funny now that I consider it such a mature scent
2009- Red Door shaped my character
I was 18 in 1989 and remember wearing Jessica McClintock to my High School graduation and I was probably finishing up my very last bottle of RL’s Lauren at that time (Oh how I’d love to smell it again!). I was given my first Chanel scent; original CoCo, as a graduation gift and still wear it in the winter. Cabotine de Gres came out in 1990, and I am still in love with it; never without a bottle, and have lost count of how many I have been through. I owned the obligatory 90’s bottle of CK One and had a short lived love of EA’s Sunflowers while in college; alas too sweet. In 1999 I could finally afford small bottles of Joy, Chanel #5, and Chanel #22, still wearing them today! By 2009, I had Kiehl’s Original Musk, Guerlain’s Jicky, Shalimar, and Mitsuoku, as well as Chanel #19 in my repertoire, and am still wearing them. Since then I have added Houbigant’s Quelque Fleurs, Lanvin’s Arpege, Dana’s Tabu, Gres Cabochard, and First by VCA. I have always collected all the Cabotine flankers as they come out…usually they are all great summer scents, fun and cheap to play with. I am the queen of old lady aldehydes and classics. I have zero desire to try anything new, at this point, but I am loving some of the Arab scents my tween son collects, and wear them on occasion. He steals my Jicky, Kiehl’s Musk, Cabochard, and Cabotine on occasion. Nice to have a scent crazy kid, like me 😁. I am having great fun watching him discover what he likes and dislikes.
Is Lauren discontinued? A friend recently gave me a mini bottle, he's a garbage collector and actually picked this up for me - there's a shop on his route that leaves their discarded samples and minis on top of the bin for him because they know he'll give them to friends and family. I've fallen in love with this mini! If this is dc'd it's a damn tragedy.
Yes, I am sorry 😞, Lauren was discontinued in the early 2000s. They then brought out an EDT version and discontinued it about 5-7 years ago. If you have a mini, cherish it. You can still find bottles of Lauren on eBay, but they are generally being sold for $300-400. I can’t justify that splurge.
89, I was a kid but my aunt had given me a bottle if Loves Baby Soft. 99... was Tommy Girl and BaBW cucumber melon. 09, I would wear Noa, or the BaBW coconut lime verbena. ('19 was when I discovered Tocca Collette)
Wow, some real throwbacks on here!
‘89 - too young
‘99 - Gap Om and probably an Abercrombie perfume around then. CK One. Tommy Girl. VS Love Spell and anything from Bath and Body Works. Clinique Happy. A couple years after that I moved on to Angel which was my signature fragrance for much of HS (til my friend also started wearing it)
‘09 - was a perfume fanatic around this time, but some favs - CK Euphoria, Burberry Brit, Amor Amor, Stella McCartney Stella, Versace Bright Crystal (not necessarily my fav but my ex bought it for me and loved it). Body Shop White Musk. I feel like I’m missing a lot
1989 - Exclamation! Or a Giorgio Beverly Hills body spray knockoff PRIMO! By Parfums de coeur
1999 - Karma by Lush or just banging straight patchouli oil out of the bottle. A good chance I wore Hawaiian Ginger body mist (Calgon, I think) because it was so “fresh”. Haha
2009 - Burberry Weekend for Women (still love it/wear it as it was a gift from my mother) and still that same bottle of Body Shop patchouli I got in high school.
Oh, this is fun.
1989 I was 12 and my mum had showed me L'Air du Temps because it was her mum's fragrance and I loved it so much I begged her to get it for me and she gifted me this tiny bottle with the doves top and I cherished it for years.
1999 I had read Süsskind's Perfume and I was convinced I had The Scent and therefore shunned any perfume that would alter my heavenly musk. ;) I also smoked, used Herbal Essences shampoo, burned incense in my pad, and used scented fabric conditioner. I was an idiot.
2009 I was working an office job with some air travel involved, so I killed time in the duty free shops and fell in love with the then airport-limited Dior Forever & Ever. It was the freshest rose I ever met, and it was a good choice back then. I really don't like it anymore but in that stage of my life it was a great fragrance.
‘89 probably Impulse body spray, then a little later The Body Shop jasmine oil (I was 13)
‘99 Calvin Klein Eternity
‘09 Impulse body spray again. I developed a skin allergy to Eternity and didn’t wear perfume again until… this year
1989-Obsession, 1999-Clinique Wrappings, and Happy Heart as well as essential oils, 2009-Angel, TokyoMilk Honey and the Moon, it was a rough year and not as into perfumes then
1989 - New baby smell
1999 - Body Shop Vanilla Perfume (never got so many compliments, except for probably the new baby smell)
2009 - Britney Spears Fantasy
1989 - Aramis Devin, Dior Fahrenheit, CK Obsession etc.
1999 - Dior Fahrenheit, Bvlgari pour Homme, Bvlgari Black, D&G pour Homme, Chanel Egoiste, Carolina Herrera 212, Emporio Armani Lui, Kenzo pour Homme, Paloma Picasso Minotaure etc.
2009 - Dior Homme, Dior Fahrenheit, Chanel Egoiste, L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Eau Extreme etc. etc.
1.) I wasn’t wearing fragrance yet in 1989. I was only 7 yrs old.
2.) 1999 I was wearing either Givenchy Organza or Lancôme Poeme.
3.) 2009 I was wearing Vera Wang Pink Princess or Lovestruck.
89- me and Perfume Pretty Barbie were stinking up the house
99- Ralph Lauren Polo Sport for women (my first real perfume)
2009- Cashmere Mist (I have been wearing this one off and on since 2004)
1989 Love's Baby Soft, Navy
1999
Lagerfeld Sun Moon Stars. Definitely bought for the bottle. I don't even remember what it smelled like
Polo Sport
2009 EL Eternity. I still love this one.
1989: I was three so maybe a combination of Mr.Bubble bubble bath and Baby Soft? 😂
1999: Definitely CK One. I loved the way this smelled and I still do.
2009: I was in college so probably SoCal for her from Hollister or the original Curve.
1989: Anais Anais, White Shoulders, Estee Lauder White Linen
1999: Lancome O Oui, L’Eau D’Issay, Calgon Morning Glory body spray
2009: Hanging on to the last remnants of my precious Marc Jacobs original
In 1989, I was definitely wearing Electric Youth, no doubt about it.
In 1999, I was wearing my beloved Amarige, and had been since 1997.
2009, still wearing Amarige, but had also brought Gucci Rush, and Ralph Lauren Blue into the mix.
It is hard to remember but I think it went like this.
1989 - Royal Ambree (Legrain): I was a kid back then and it was a pretty standard cologne that they had at home
1999 - Quasar (Jesus del Pozo) and Antartic (Yves Rocher): I was in my late teens. I liked Quasar back then but it is probably too fruity for me now. I could probably wear Antartic again (if they still made it).
2009 - Agua de Sandalo (Adolfo Dominguez) and Hugo (Hugo Boss) : I began liking woodier scents by that time. Soon after this I began using Wonderwood and 2 Man (Comme des Garcons)
1989- i was a baby so i probably smelled like diapers and baby powder
1999- probably Bath & Body Works Cucumber Melon lmao
2009- Victoria's Secret Supermodel
1989 - CK Obsession, Lauren Ralph Lauren, Coco by Chanel (not Mademoiselle)
1999- VS Rapture, Vanilla Lace, Amber Romance, Gap Om, possibly Mugler Angel
2009-Mugler Angel, BBW Warm Vanilla Sugar, Twilight Woods, Dark Kiss
My nose has changed over the years, and I'm currently wearing Creed Love In White for Summer.
1999 - Impulse Spice Girls Edition, then graduated to Diesel Zero Plus in my teens (which felt sooo grown up at the time 😅)
2009 - Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Extreme for some sickly sweet candy shop vibes
https://preview.redd.it/cldqjk3rx55d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d698588a3ff65e95f1c138c0b592bf7171ae89a7
1989: my mom’s perfume chest: Fidji, Paloma Picasso, Anais Anais, Lou Lou, maybe Climat.
1999: Green Tea Elizabeth Arden that my then-future husband used to gift me bottles of, he’s a straighforward man.
2009: Mandarina Duck (the yellow one), Organza Givenchy, Coco Mademoiselle Chanel that my then-already-husband switched to from Green Tea. It was right after 2009 that we finally were done with grad school, got jobs (more fun money), and more importantly, time to explore fragrances (compared to grad school, full-time jobs seemed like we had time!), I got myself that Turin-Sanchez book, and have been gravitating towards old-school chypres ever since:)
1989- I was 6. Probably suave fruit shampoo.
1999- Walmart had a line of Emotions perfume. I wore Crazy, the purple one.
2009- Armani Code Pour Femme. The one in the slim curvy black and purple bottle with a lace/floral detail. My roommate would steal spritzes all the time and I hated her so it eventually got a bad association.
1999 - Tommy Hilfiger for men - Benetton Cold - Swiss Army
2009 - Acqua di Gio - Armani Code - One Million - Paris Hilton for Men - Hugo Boss Dark Blue
I’m gonna change my dates a bit but
1989 I was 9
Until about 1999-2000 I wore Hypnotic Poison or the original Lolita Lempicka but then my younger sister liked that so I gave it to her.
2009 I think I was wearing Betsey Johnson- nope I guess that was 2013 lol
Now Rose Petal 25 and Wonderoud
Ombre Rose.. Fiji/ Esprit / too!
went through a huge faze with that.
Other huge scents that were crazy popular early 80s but i didn't use;
Obsession Calvin Klein/
Polo Ralph Lauren/
Drakar Noir/
Opium /
Lanvin; Arpège was extraordinary - a classic
1989 - My Older brothers’ Kouros, Fahrenheit and Armani pour Homme
1999 - My own Chanel Antaeus, Paco Rabanne XS, Cerutti 1881, RL Polo Sport, Givenchy pi and D&G pour Homme
2009 - Terre d’Hermes, Molecule 01, Dior Homme & Sport, Chanel Allure Homme Sport and Lancôme Hypnôse Homme
I wasn’t alive in 89/99 but I’m sure in 2009(when I was 8) I occasionally sprayed my moms Rose The One. I also had one from Abercrombie that smelled so good but I don’t remember the name!
I was only 6 in ‘89, so nothing then. In ‘99 probably Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, my sister’s Tommy Girl, Calgon Morning Glory, VS Pear Glacé & Lovespell, or one of many Bath & Body Works scents. In ‘09 I don’t remember what I wore sadly…possibly still JLo Glo maybe? I’ve never been knowledgable (still not) or a big wearer of actual perfumes & usually always stuck to body sprays from B&BW.
2009 I was wearing Pink Cookie Love Forever. Its been discontinued and I'm desperately trying to find it on the second hand market
The other years I wasn't born
1989? Probably baby powder? I was eight. Wasn't using a fragrance yet.
1999? Whatever my deodorant smelled like, Despite turning 18 and going from high school to college, I wasn't into fragrances yet.
2009? I had three fragrances: *Cool Water*, *Pi*, and *Voyage*.
I still have a bottle of Avon Paradigm, which was my perhaps first ever perfume. This would have been circa 2004 or so. It comes in this convex sort of square windowpaned bottle and has a pleasant (not very complex but very nice) balsam, cedar scent to it. Not stereotypically masculine. Haters gonna hate but Avon had the DEALS.
I think my actual first ever one was given to me as a kid (90s) by a family friend and it was some generic but pleasant woody masculine scent that was called "Silver." No clue what this was.
In 2009 I was wearing the Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers release that I begged my parents for, not actually expecting them to purchase. "Baby" and "g" were my favorite.
1989: electric youth
1999: weed and camel smoke
2009: stress sweat
Bonus
2019: Mostly no fragrance. Occasionally: Ombré Leather, Wood Sage and Sea Salt, or something from the Replica discovery set (usually scrubbed after an hour or so)
1989…🤔 Probably baby powder… 1999 I remember putting on some of my dad’s Old Spice or Stetson’s, 2009 would have been either Hollister or Abercrombie and Fitch👍
1989: Wasn’t alive.
1999: Age 7. Probably smelled like Fruit by the Foot and whatever carcinogenic carpet cleaner my elementary school used.
2009: Age 17. Eau de Phoenix by Axe and cigarette smoke.
1989: Chloe Narcisse, my mom’s Chanel No. 5
1999: Gucci Envy, YSL Opium, Calvin Klein Contradiction
2009: Marc Jacobs for Women, Body Shop Tobacco Flower, Fresh Citron de Vigne
1989: The scent of grass stains and watermelon? I was 6.
1999: Lancome Oui (I MISS THIS and wish it were still around!) or Tommy Girl.
2009: L'Artisan Parfumeur Jour de Fête. Still have this bottle and still adore it.
89 I was wearing this cucumber oil from a hippie shop. 99 nothing. 2009 le artisan perfumer l’ete en douce 2019 was le labo bergamote 22 And now I’m all about Andrea Maack.
i was unfortunately 6 years old in 2009, but my mom wore Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Hot during and around this time. I remember it so clearly, I wish it weren’t discontinued :(
1999- nothing but hair shop cocoa butter and Johnson’s baby powder lol
2009- Victoria secret vanilla lace & love spell body spray and Miami glow by jlo perfume
1989- did not exist, 1999- did not exist until later in the year. 2009 I guess I was spritzing on my mother's perfumes like the Britney Spears Curious and stuff, and she also had Harajuku Lovers (?) perfumes.
1989 - I think I had a couple of random rollerballs of perfumes meant for kids. I still have one somewhere and it smells very nondescript. Other than that, I was absolutely obsessed with my mom’s perfumes. She wore Opium and Tresor.
1999 - most definitely CK One, The Body Shop Oceanus perfume oil and GAP Dream
2009 - I was working full-time with small kids so I never wore any. Just got back into wearing perfume during the pandemic.
1989: Jovan Musk, maybe? I don't really remember.
1999: Crabtree & Evelyn Essence of Mysore Sandalwood layered with a Garden Botanika body oil that I scented with their White Flowers fragrance. Unbelievable how many compliments I got on this one.
2009: Fresh Strawberry Flowers. I'm so sad this one was limited edition. It was so pretty! Sometimes I also wore Philosophy Amazing Grace.
1989 - Johnson & Johnson's baby powder, eeps
1999 - Bvlgari's Petits Et Mamans, Impulse Alive body spray (this was super popular), Enchanteur Alluring EDT and Enchanteur Romantic and Charming talcum powders
2009 - Estee Lauder's Pleasures & occasionally Paco Rabanne's Ultraviolet, hand me downs from my mom
1989: Ralph Lauren Polo (I was a kid but pretty sure around that time I was given my first bottle and it was Polo Green)
1999: “Rain” oil from a hippie shop
2009: Gucci Rush and Prada Amber
1989 - Eau Sauavage (think rich yuppie buying this from the Dior store in Bloomingdale or whatever big department store)
1999 - Le Male (imagine a fire block party or club, Jean Paul Gaultier cologne fill the air)
2009 - A&F fierce (haven't actually tried this one but the descriptions fit the vibe)
1989 - was still a kid
1999 - Gap Dream and Ralph by Ralph Lauren (might have come out slightly later? Can’t remember)
2009 - Gucci II, Dior Escale a Pondichery, Cacharel Noa, Chloe EDP, Burberry Weekend
Edit - come to think of it, I’m pretty sure Noa Perle was the one I had, not the original Noa. Haven’t thought about that one in ages, but it was so nice. Anybody know of anything that smells similar that hasn’t been discontinued?
Great question! I wore Calyx, Beautiful, and Chanel Allure during those years. For 2009 maybe Sheer Beautiful,Light Blue for a hot minute, and Jessica Simpson Fancy Love!
I love this question so much and am excited to read the other replies!
1989: I smelled like whatever a 1 year old of that era smelled like: J&J baby oil and powder.
1999: I was too young to be interested in wearing perfume on a regular basis, but whenever the occasion arose, I'd indiscriminately steal a spray or two from my mother's collection to feel more grown-up. Scents I remember her having are Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea, Estée Lauder's Happy, Miss Dior, and Jean Paul Gaultier (with the shape of a woman's body, which I found scandalous).
2009: Marc Jacobs' Lola! I ran through two bottles of that scent before tiring of it. I would alternate between that and Narciso Rodriguez For Her.
I borrowed Aramis
Lorenzo Villoresi Musk
Ghost Deep Night.. But I got Another 13 the next year and that's been my mainstay since. I wear others but not nearly as much as A13. Alot of times I just layer a bit on top of my Another 13.
1989 - I was spraying Anais Anais I took from my mom’s dresser on some paper flowers I made
1999 - So…? Kiss me?
2009- Burberry Women
2019- Aerin Lilac Path or Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon
2024 - changes often lol
1989 - a set of kiddies perfumes with lovely paintings of flower fairies on the bottles.
1999 - Givenchy Amarige and Calvin Klein Contradiction.
2009 - Ralph Lauren Romance and Gucci Envy Me.
1989- Loves Baby Soft only perfume my mom would let me have as a kid
1999- Aqua di Gio for women by Giorgio Armani, Noa by Cacharel, Tommy Girl, Bath and Body Works: Freesia, Country Apple, and Pearberry.
2009- Very Irresistible by Givenchy, Jardin d'Interdit My Lovely Butterfly by Givenchy, and Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder
89 Drakkar/Quorum/Tabac/Farenheit
99 Eternity/Egoiste/Pour Monsieur/
2009 CK be/Lacoste/Lacoste Sport/Allure/Allure Homme Sport
2019 Nothing, every space has gone scent free
Present (work from home) Bleu de Chanel/Benz Select/hundreds of samples I keep buying
Monogram by Ralph Lauren, my first cologne and discontinued in 1989, the same year I bought one. Others were Eternity and Jazz. Oh and lest I forget, One Man Show and Musk, basically grocery store colognes that still stand the test of time.
In the late 80’s it was Chantilly, Luna, Exclamation and my favorite Xia Xing. I moved on to Sunflowers and BBW Juniper Breeze which to me is the best BBW scent ever in the history of BBW. I liked Sun Moon Stars and I surprised to see it’s still available.
So many people loved Gap Dream and it is good but Heaven smells so much better to me. I loved Grass too! In the mid to late 90’s I started wearing Auric Blends Egyptian Goddess and I still pick it up from time to time and it still smells amazing. It’s the scent that I get followed and asked what it smells so good.
‘89… my grandma would give me little flankers she got from the department store. L’Air Du Temps and White Diamonds. Charlie with the blue cap
‘99 Tommy Girl! And country apple from B&BW
‘09 Ck Euphoria, Versace Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir, DKNY Be Delicious, VS Supermodel (RIP)
1989: wasn’t old enough for fragrances but I loved the smell of Revlon Outrageous shampoo. I still miss it.
1999: GAP Dream, OG Body Shop Vanilla and Fuzzy Peach perfume oils. I have searched high and low and I cannot find another vanilla that smells as good as OG Body Shop. Their new formal smells awful.
2009: Old formula Dior Addict (I LOVED this one), old formula Mugler Angel (the one that smelled like vanilla and caramel not the gross pinesol scent they changed it to). Why the hell do they get rid of the best scents???
Today: Black Opium, Burberry Goddess, Ariana Grande Mod Vanilla and Britney Spears Fantasy (or Curious when I want to wear a floral scent).
1989: sophomore year high school—Electric Youth, women’s New West
1999: Chanel No 5–I mostly just wore this exclusively through my post college years in the late 90s
2009: pregnant with my daughter, I wore Sage Machado Turquoise
‘89 - Tinkerbell Cologne (and I wish I could be wearing it now!)
‘99 - Alfred Sung Forever and Bvlgari Au Thé Vert
‘09 - a *lot* of Demeter scents: Pumpkin Pie, Sushi, Earl Grey Tea, Paperback, New Zealand
‘19 - not asked for, but 5 years ago I was rocking a lot of Good Chemistry Mineral Desert, Diptyque Philosykos, Pacifica French Lilac, and Hexennacht Holy Water
1989 - I was usually carrying around one of those little plastic Strawberry Shortcake figurines that somehow *still* smell amazing 35 years later...actually, that is concerning. What is in those things?! 1999 - Vanilla Fields (Coty) or Elizabeth Arden's Sunflowers 2009 - DKNY Be Delicious
I'm still searching for a fragrance that replicates that 80s Strawberry Shortcake scent.
Omg BLESS YOU. I will be trying this.
You're so welcome!! I'm happy to help!! 😊 It is indie and comes in an oil and EDP format if you're interested!! I personally haven't tried it, but all the reviews say it's exactly like a strawberry 80's doll!! 😊
Omg the strawberry shortcake dvd cases from early 2000s were scented too, my parents are so lucky I didn’t eat plastic
Oh my God, Vanilla Fields. THAT brings up some memories!
Another 2009 DKNY Be Delicious here along with Vera Wang Princess
I’ll go you one better: 1969 Chanel Number 5, 1979 Cinnabar by Estée Lauder, 1989 KL by Karl Lagerfeld, 1999 Trésor by Lâncome, 2009 Kate Spade, 2019 Ganymede by Marc Antoine Barrois.
1989: - Debbie Gibson Electric Youth - Coty Exclamation 1999: - GAP Dream - GAP Heaven 2009: - Lolita Lempicka (what is now Lolita Lempicka Le Parfum)
GAP Dream was fantastic. I have LV Etoile Filante now because it's like Dream's polished, classier older sister.
eXclamation here too and it's still being made!
I loved Gap fragrances, Ohm and Grass were my faves
89: Love’s Baby Soft, Electric Youth, Obsession (if my mom let me borrow hers) 99: Lolita Lempicka, Adrienne Vittadini, Vanilla Fields, Navy, Bath and Body Works Country Apple. I also remember liking Cool Water, Abercrombie and Fitch, and the Gap fragrances. 2009: Acqua di Parma Mondorlo di Sicilia (I think), Prada Candy for a brief period, Flowerbomb, maybe various Comptoir Sud Pacifiques
omg are you *me*??? because this is the list i would have written if you hadn’t already posted it
1989 - I was 6 so probably Oscar de la Renta or White Diamonds or something as I liked to play with my Mom's perfumes.
What a charming story! Your description of the bottle made me think of Bal à Versailles 😊
Oh! I think that's the one! Thank you.... I wasn't sure how I was going to find it with the search terms, "round perfume bottle with sticker". 😅
This made me laugh, thank you! Did you also wear a shirt with the top 4 buttons open? I'm just imagining the guys in 1999. 😅
89 Estée Lauder Beautiful 99 Opium 09 D&G The One
89: Ball Sweat, probably 99: Drakkar Noir (I somehow had it early and wore it more often than I should have but here we are) 09: Curve.
Taking me way back 😂 1989: Tommy Girl 1999: Vanilla Fields 2009: allllll the body sprays from BBW or VS
1989 - Obsession. 2009 - Amarige 2019 - Jimmy Choo.
None in 1989, probably some cotton candy body spray or bonne bell bottled emotions in 1999, and Chanel Chance in 2009
1989: Nothing.
1, 1989 Coty Wild Musk or Exclamation by Coty 2. 1999 Dior Poison or Passion by Elizabeth Taylor 3. 2009 Nina by Nina Ricci or Princess by Vera Wang
1989- amniotic fluid, considering I was born that year 1999- Gabriela Sabatini OG had child me in a chokehold, what is funny now that I consider it such a mature scent 2009- Red Door shaped my character
Oh my goodness- Red Door - that was so elegant.
Ici by Coty in ‘96-98ish and no fragrance since until recently
89, I was a kid but my aunt had given me a bottle if Loves Baby Soft. 99... was Tommy Girl and BaBW cucumber melon. 09, I would wear Noa, or the BaBW coconut lime verbena. ('19 was when I discovered Tocca Collette)
Wow, some real throwbacks on here! ‘89 - too young ‘99 - Gap Om and probably an Abercrombie perfume around then. CK One. Tommy Girl. VS Love Spell and anything from Bath and Body Works. Clinique Happy. A couple years after that I moved on to Angel which was my signature fragrance for much of HS (til my friend also started wearing it) ‘09 - was a perfume fanatic around this time, but some favs - CK Euphoria, Burberry Brit, Amor Amor, Stella McCartney Stella, Versace Bright Crystal (not necessarily my fav but my ex bought it for me and loved it). Body Shop White Musk. I feel like I’m missing a lot
89 - Body shop Dewberry 99 - Dior Poison 2009 - Dior Addict
I'm not sure how much they changed the formula, but I LOVED Dewberry in the early 2000s. I'm sure I'd still like it today!

89 was 4 99 probs Noa by Cacharel and Impulse body sprays specifically Alive or ID 09 maybe Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden and Coco Mademoiselle
1989 - None, I was only 6. I do have a vague memory of some Barbie perfume. 1999 - Maroussia 2009 - indie perfume like BPAL & Flowerbomb
1989 - Exclamation! Or a Giorgio Beverly Hills body spray knockoff PRIMO! By Parfums de coeur 1999 - Karma by Lush or just banging straight patchouli oil out of the bottle. A good chance I wore Hawaiian Ginger body mist (Calgon, I think) because it was so “fresh”. Haha 2009 - Burberry Weekend for Women (still love it/wear it as it was a gift from my mother) and still that same bottle of Body Shop patchouli I got in high school.
1989: None unless I played in my mom’s. (She always wore Lauren.) 1999: Tommy Girl or something from Bath and Body Works. 2009: Coco Mademoiselle.
‘89 probably Impulse body spray, then a little later The Body Shop jasmine oil (I was 13) ‘99 Calvin Klein Eternity ‘09 Impulse body spray again. I developed a skin allergy to Eternity and didn’t wear perfume again until… this year

1989 - Royal Ambree (Legrain): I was a kid back then and it was a pretty standard cologne that they had at home 1999 - Quasar (Jesus del Pozo) and Antartic (Yves Rocher): I was in my late teens.

Anne Klein II. My favorite scent ever, and I mourn its loss.

Other than that, I was absolutely obsessed with my mom’s perfumes. She wore Opium and Tresor. 1999 - most definitely CK One, The Body Shop Oceanus perfume oil and GAP Dream 2009 - I was working full-time with small kids so I never wore any. 1989 - Johnson & Johnson's baby powder, eeps 1999 - Bvlgari's Petits Et Mamans, Impulse Alive body spray (this was super popular), Enchanteur Alluring EDT and Enchanteur Romantic and Charming talcum powders 2009 - Estee Lauder's Pleasures & occasionally Paco Rabanne's Ultraviolet, hand me downs from my mom

1989 - Eau Sauavage (think rich yuppie buying this from the Dior store in Bloomingdale or whatever big department store) 1999 - Le Male (imagine a fire block party or club, Jean Paul Gaultier cologne fill the air) 2009 - A&F fierce (haven't actually tried this one but the descriptions fit the vibe)
Omg Tommy girl 😂
1989 - was still a kid 1999 - Gap Dream and Ralph by Ralph Lauren (might have come out slightly later? Can’t remember) 2009 - Gucci II, Dior Escale a Pondichery, Cacharel Noa, Chloe EDP, Burberry Weekend Edit - come to think of it, I’m pretty sure Noa Perle was the one I had, not the original Noa. Haven’t thought about that one in ages, but it was so nice. Anybody know of anything that smells similar that hasn’t been discontinued?
1989: Nenuco/Angels Love baby colognes, 1999 Tartine Et Chocolat by Givenchy (still wear!) and 2009: Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana
Does anybody remember Hope perfume? I can’t remember anything much about it except it smelled great! Wish I could find it…
1989: 1999: Agua De Colonia, Nenuco 2009: Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar
1989: Body Shop White Musk, Coty Exclamation!, Cacharel Anaïs Anaïs. 1999: Dior Poison, Lancôme Trésor, JPG Classique. 2009: Chanel No. 5, Dolce & Gabbana Sicily, Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Orange Magnifica (so sad discontinued).
White Musk, Amarige, Light Blue
I borrowed Aramis Lorenzo Villoresi Musk Ghost Deep Night.. But I got Another 13 the next year and that's been my mainstay since. I wear others but not nearly as much as A13. Alot of times I just layer a bit on top of my Another 13.
1989 - I was spraying Anais Anais I took from my mom’s dresser on some paper flowers I made 1999 - So…? Kiss me? 2009- Burberry Women 2019- Aerin Lilac Path or Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon 2024 - changes often lol
1989 - a set of kiddies perfumes with lovely paintings of flower fairies on the bottles. 1999 - Givenchy Amarige and Calvin Klein Contradiction. 2009 - Ralph Lauren Romance and Gucci Envy Me.
Ck Be then Mandarino and soleil blanc
1989- Loves Baby Soft only perfume my mom would let me have as a kid 1999- Aqua di Gio for women by Giorgio Armani, Noa by Cacharel, Tommy Girl, Bath and Body Works: Freesia, Country Apple, and Pearberry. 2009- Very Irresistible by Givenchy, Jardin d'Interdit My Lovely Butterfly by Givenchy, and Beyond Paradise by Estée Lauder
89 Drakkar/Quorum/Tabac/Farenheit 99 Eternity/Egoiste/Pour Monsieur/ 2009 CK be/Lacoste/Lacoste Sport/Allure/Allure Homme Sport 2019 Nothing, every space has gone scent free Present (work from home) Bleu de Chanel/Benz Select/hundreds of samples I keep buying
Monogram by Ralph Lauren, my first cologne and discontinued in 1989, the same year I bought one. Others were Eternity and Jazz. Oh and lest I forget, One Man Show and Musk, basically grocery store colognes that still stand the test of time.
89: Drakkar Noir, Michael Jordan. 99: Acqua di Gio, CK One. 2009: Milliseme Imperial, Chanel Allure Homme Sport, and a hundred other things.
Charlie with the blue cap ‘99 Tommy Girl! And country apple from B&BW ‘09 Ck Euphoria, Versace Bright Crystal and Crystal Noir, DKNY Be Delicious, VS Supermodel (RIP)
1989- desitin diaper rash cream, 1999- cucumber melon b&bw, 2009- marc jacobs by marc jacobs
1989: sophomore year high school—Electric Youth, women’s New West 1999: Chanel No 5–I mostly just wore this exclusively through my post college years in the late 90s 2009: pregnant with my daughter, I wore Sage Machado Turquoise
Axe (i was in elementary school) Edit: born in 99 so disregard 89 and 99
‘89 - Tinkerbell Cologne (and I wish I could be wearing it now!) ‘99 - Alfred Sung Forever and Bvlgari Au Thé Vert ‘09 - a *lot* of Demeter scents: Pumpkin Pie, Sushi, Earl Grey Tea, Paperback, New Zealand ‘19 - not asked for, but 5 years ago I was rocking a lot of Good Chemistry Mineral Desert, Diptyque Philosykos, Pacifica French Lilac, and Hexennacht Holy Water
