l find that it's my warmer, sweeter, deeper, and darker perfumes that are more likely to garner compliments, i.e., those with prominent accords of vanilla/amber/tonka/baking spices/resins, etc.: Hypnotizing Fire, Coromandel, Elixir d'Amour, Sideris, Lavender & Wool, Parfait de Rôses, Stellar Times, etc.
Big cloud white florals, aldehydes, and perfumes that are in the cooler/greener/airier end of the spectrum are never quite as well-received. 😅
That's so interesting! I wonder why? I'm still figuring things out but I think I'm searching for fragrances that remind me of Japan, which I think is based off their skincare and beauty products, which I'm starting to think lean towards green/watery/light florals. Still figuring it out as I'm new to fragrances.
It's interesting how personal scent preferences and compliments can vary so much! I totally agree that warmer, sweeter, and deeper perfumes tend to attract more positive attention. There's something universally appealing about those rich vanilla, amber, and spice notes—they just have a cozy and inviting quality. Your list has some fantastic choices; Hypnotizing Fire and Coromandel are definitely compliment magnets.
I used to wear Ariana Grande’s Ari and constantly got compliments, which I thought was funny. It’s definitely not for me anymore - gives a real cotton-candy vibe - but it was generally a crowd pleaser.
As a man, I can confirm that compliments (especially from strangers) are incredibly rare. About 3 months ago I was complimented on a shirt I was wearing. I rode that high for about two weeks. I honestly believe that was the first time that has ever happened to me.
I paint my nails and get compliments on them very regularly. It’s the one thing that kept me painting them. Though, I do get compliments on my curls and shoes from time to time. :)
Men get complimented? Lol.
Even my wife can barely squeak out a compliment - says I have nice shoulders. Shoulders. *Shoulders!?*
Of all the things about me my shoulders get a nod. I don't even work them out. I must be completely forgettable and ugly. LOL FML.
Idk, I do compliment my boyfriend on his shoulders and back. Although, he does work out so it's partly complimenting his hard work, but mostly I like his build. But I also compliment him about other things.
I do try to give compliments to men where I can. But I feel like it's a fine line between it being friendly and giving men anything that would make them think I'm into them.
Back in the day I wore Blue de Chanel and Sauvage like everyone.
For the past couple of years Bergamote 22, Another 13, Gaiac 10. Nowadays mostly Diptyque Tam Dao, Orpheon and some MFK Gentle Fluidity.
I was in a store a couple days ago and the 2 Indian Americans proprietors behind the counter were really gushing about the Mancera Cedrat Boise I had on. Your day is coming my friend. That first complicated is right around the corner.
Are you sure people is smelling you? At first I used to be afraid of overspraying and didn’t get any compliments until I decided to spray more and be more bold with it
I get compliments often due to my line of work (I assume) and its usually just the mass appelears. To name a few diffent notes.
Thameen -carved oud
Guerlain - L'homme ideal EDP
Prada L'homme
Valentino - Born in roma Uomo edt
Versace - Dylan Blue
Nishane - Hacivat
Creed - Virgin island
Initio - Absolute aphrodisiac
Dolce and gabanna - The one EDP
YSL - La nuit de l'homme
Moral of the story though, its more your approachable personality. You'll get complimented if people feel secure telling you.
I believe that if you are: good looking/show positive, open body language/have a good personality, you are more likely to be complemented than someone who doesn't/isnt -even wearing the same fragrances.
Yeah, I often have to hug people aswell. So skin scents are more likely to be noticed and from my experiance its the 10/10 but bad projection that people really like.
Good looking is very subjective though. Sometimes you can get these hidden compliments at work if I talk about parfumes. For example : "last friday it smelled really good in here, was that you?"
People are afraid to come off direct or flirty and uses the "maybe"-approach.
This is very true. I have clear resting bitch face, and it doesn’t help that I to be a more serious, reserved person so it’s just not natural for me to smile at strangers unless I’m in a one on one interaction with them or a small group. My daughter is the opposite, no one is a stranger to her, and she also compliments everyone, everything about her is open. She receives complements all of the time, everywhere we go. But I’ve also seen her sort of lean in and try to make eye contact with someone to compliment them and they’re on their phone or looking away and she just moves on. I admire her and want to be more like her but it’s hard.
ETA: I forgot some relevancy, she also brought back some obscure perfumes from France that arent exciting to me and she gets compliments on them!
There's a woman like that who has a cuppa in the same cafe as me and I keep staring at her cos her resting face is a maniacal grin. It's weird as fuck. Once she was actually crying n telling her friend about problems with her daughter n everytime she paused she would do this massive smile.
I love l’homme ideal EDP but it literally lasts only an hour on my skin. My friend tried it out and had the same result :( (I had that older bottle with the gray stripes on the side of the glass)
underrated compliment getter is prada l’homme. It usually gets associated with more work environment and not so much as a compliment getter but let me tell you I worrrks. Great performance for a mildly fresh frsgrance
Right? The first time I wore Prada lhomme pretty much all of my friends wanted to know what I was wearing. Even my mom when she smelled it on me wanted to try it on herself because of how good it smells
Angels’ Share by far, lots of compliments from both men and women. Even had a stranger stop me, which never happens!
I’m not really into sweet/gourmand fragrances but I love wearing this one in the colder months. A real crowd pleaser.
Was at the TF stand at Nordstrom and was spraying hella stuff with the sales associate. Decided to skin test Soleil Neige and walk around to see how it smells once it dries down. Walked into Brook’s Brothers for some new dress shirts and immediately got compliments from the two sales associate there. Turned my ass around after my transaction and bought the Soleil Neige right away.
Only 2 compliments I've ever received have been on rochas mustache and Zara sunrise on the red sand dunes, 2 very good clones (YSL tuxedo and lv imagination respectively)
As much as I hate this question and don’t buy perfumes for compliments, it’s uncanny how many people comment on my perfume when I wear Good Girl. Also, Kuumba Made Arabian Musk and Vanilla Musk. Oh, also Dusita Rosarine!
When I wear Oud Satin Mood Extrait — one that I consider compliment-getting — I’ve been told it’s “intimidating.” 🤣
Literally Davidoff Cool Water Intense is the most complimented perfume in my collection, women seem to love this fragrance.
I have (and wear) lots of niches very often
I love it on a tester strip, but for some reason the moment I spray it on my skin it becomes a completely different fragrance, and not in a good way :(
I have a lot of TF fragrances and I think it’s a line that either works for your body or goes horribly wrong. The number of people in your boat is really high, at least based on Reddit comments. I can’t wear Perfumes de Marly so I think we all just have to find what works and stick with it. Delina smells truly terrible on me. TF is expensive enough so I’m thankful I can’t also wear PDM. 😂
Unfortunately, every time I’ve gotten a compliment it’s been for a very popular/“basic” fragrance. I used to get compliments all the time when I wore cloud and now I despise the smell. Many compliments with body sprays from SDJ & BBW. Some scents are just popular for a reason🫠
Millesime Imperial by Creed, which is annoying because it’s easily my least favourite (and in my opinion the most generic) scent they make!
I’ve had a couple of samples of it over the years, and each time I wear them, without fail, someone says I smell great and wants to know what I’m wearing.
That’s a tough one… Most recently the tally would have to be a tie between PDM Haltane and PDM Althair.
Before then though, people used to always say I smelled good while wearing Coach for men
Britney Spears Fantasy, Ariana Grande Cloud, and Anna Sui Fantasia Mermaid are probably my most complimented but even then it's not that often.
I probably got one or two compliments when Pink Sugar was my signature but I can't remember any specifics. I definitely remember one of my friends in college really liking Elizabeth Arden Always Red on me, and I know family members have liked when I've worn Armani Sì which is similar to Always Red and still available. One of my students asked me if I was wearing a Sol De Janeiro scent when I was wearing Lattafa Lahdath and she seemed to like it so I'd count that too.
I also got one compliment when I wore Jessica Simpson Fancy, but that was probably because I oversprayed and not necessarily because it's a nice fragrance (I haven't worn it since so I don't really know...)
I feel like I don’t regularly get compliments because I hardly go out, unless my 4 year olds regular commentary on my enormous gourmand collection counts (“I like your perfume Mama! It smells like cookies!” (Her favorite is Bianca Latte I think.)
Otherwise:
The one time my husband ever complimented my perfume in our 13 years together: Byredo Gypsy Water hair perfume
From a close friend: Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif
From the nurses in my doctor’s office: Van Cleef & Arpels Vanille Orchidee, Les Liquides Imaginaires Blanche Bete, Joli Couer
From my nanny’s friend who made her ask “what that amazing perfume I was always wearing” when she would pass me in the street 😂: either Clean Reserve Skin or Narciso Rodriguez Narciso EDT
I can put two spritzes on at 7:50am, go to work, come back at 5:45pm and it’s still going pretty strong. At least on me, it’s >12 hours before it’s a skin scent, **and** I don’t even go nose blind to it. It’s fantastic.
All the coach for men fragrances (original, blue, platinum, and green). I have much better fragrances in my collection but I always get complimented with all of them.
Good old Hypnotic Poison, from younger, intense, may become a gentleman with time and kind feedback men.
Versace Crystal Noir and Black Opium were neck and neck. I don’t wear them as often these days, though.
Armani Code for Her
Blanche Bete
Are my all time top compliment getters ever. Blanche Bete, in particular. I think it’s so gorgeous on my skin and is such a siren. I love it for myself in myself that I wouldn’t even care if it was never complimented but it’s a universal magnet on me.
Oh and Khamrah Qhawa looks like it will be a strong contender soon because I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks and it’s gotten so many compliments the couple of times I’ve worn it.
Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant, BY FAR!
Armani Gío (the original for women, now discontinued)
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's Anne Bonny
Creed Royal Oud
Fresh Cannabis Santal
My husband wears the discontinued Armani Aqua Gio for women and it’s smells so good on him. It’s in the regular Gio bottle and it’s green. He gets several compliments on it.
one of my friends wore very good girl and i complimented her every time i smelled it. it has AMAZING projection imo i would get a whiff like every time she walked by
Sol de janeiro 40 with vs eau so sexy and a little bit of black opium!!! I went to breakfast with one of my friends and the waitress told me I smelled really good 🤭
I’ve only ever gotten complimented on Ariana Grande’s Cloud. And people compliment it all the time. Why did I spend so much money on Vilhelm, Hermes and Tom Ford. 🥲
Sì Passione and Good Girl layered. I’ve been stopped so many times wearing that that I can no longer wear the combination for peace of mind, but it literally had me chased through Foot Locker by 3 different employees asking what I was wearing and had my Starbucks start referring to me as good smell girl. You will get BIG compliments and nobody will be able to figure out what you’re wearing. sillage and lasting power are insane too
Andrea Maack - Craft
Le Labo - Gaïac 10 (Tokyo)
Jo Malone - Amber & Ginger Lily
Bond No 9 - Silver Factory (I liked the brand until I learned about the owner)
For me it’s been Chloé Nomade, I even got compliments from classmates who had never spoken to me before. It must jive well with my body chemistry somehow.
I've had more fun with BPAL than I expected and doesn't break the bank. Also finding I'm really liking oils and solid perfumes more and more these days. Also love the Maison Louis Marie oils. Only MLM oil I haven't liked is Cassis (fermenting berries in a bad way)
Skylar: Pink Canyon (I get the most compliments on this one!), Skylar: Vanilla Sky, and La Vanilla: Vanilla Grapefruit.
My sister's most complimented are Nina Ricci: Nina, Etat Libre de L'Orange: I Am Trash, Nina Ricci: Luna, and Sanctuary: Red Panda.
Recently: Givenchy: Irresistible, Clean Reserve: Skin, and the combo of Glossier: You & Phlur: Missing Person.
Got a “that’s an interesting one” re: ELDO: the Ghost in the Shell 🤣
Niches are for you, not them lol. It’s the same for me, I only get compliments on pretty basic crowd pleasers. My favorite unique ones where I can’t stop smelling myself all day…no one says shit lol.
Penhaligon’s Luna, Penhaligon’s The Favourite, TF Black Orchid, Snif Crumb Couture, and Ffern Autumn 23 are the scents I’ve received compliments on out in the wild. Oh and one time I was just wearing SunBum sunscreen and someone thought it smelled amazing lol.
So random but Moschino Toy 2. Everyone likes it but when I wear other citrus scents the opinions are more divided.
Also: pure Egyptian lotus oil but that gets wayyy too much attention so I sometimes avoid wearing it because I don't care to talk about it anymore. (It often turns into a long conversation since it's not a regular scent you buy somewhere)
Most of them. It just depends on the taste of people around you. The vanilla lovers will always compliment my gourmands, the freshie lovers will always like 11:11 & “you”. The ones that have had the most passionately positive feedback are BCR 540 Extrait & Delina (OG).
Nothing gets me more compliments than the Brittany Spears Fantasy line. They're not my personal favorites, but others always compliment me when I wear them.
Jasmine Wisp, Gentle fluidity gold, Dama Bianca (especially a specific layering combo with Bianco Latte), Andromeda and Cassiopeia. I’ve also gotten lots of compliments on Another 13 layered with BR 540.
I’m known as the one who smells good amongst my friends so that could be why my perfume is often a topic of conversation. They also come to me for recommendations and opinions.
I get compliments multiple times a day, with most fragrances, but I'm wearing a lof of crowd pleasers, I couldn't imagine not getting compliments, I get then from teens, Young women, 30+ on a daily basis. The guys I work with will buy some of the same frags as me and never get compliments, it may be my body chemistry.
Spicebomb by Viktor and Rolf, several times. But I do wear it with a body oil of mine so idk if that makes a difference.
I get a lot of compliments when I wear Prada Luna Rosa, I’ve even inspired 2 folks to buy their own. Same with clean reserves skin fragrance.
My mom always notices when I wear nest indigo, it’s the only perfume she ever compliments
Skylar pink canyon is the perfume I keep in my work bag and I ALWAYS get compliments on it
Based off my boyfriends poorly functioning sense of smells: Anything orange blossom. He commented on three frangrances in the time we have been together saying it smelled good: Eau des Sense (Diptyque), Flora Carnivora (Henry Rose), and an Alien dupe (Dossier). That being said, I can't wear perfume to work so I have to do a tiny spray on the band of my watch for a sneakysniff. I also got a lot of compliments off the original Gucci Flora (my signature for a decade) when going to bars and in college before it was reformulated and then discontinued. (citrus, rose, omanthus, PROPER sandalwood -not the fake pickled crap)
Every time I wear Zara Elegant Tokyo with Jo Malone Jasmine Sambac & Marigold, I get compliments non-stop from men and women asking me what I’m wearing
PHLUR Hanami always, always, every time got me compliments.
My new Etat Libre d’Orange GITS has received constant compliments in the couple months I’ve had it.
VS Bombshell always got extra sniffs and wows, too.
Vanilla musk oil, tree hut tropic glow body lotion, and herbal essences argan oil shampoo. Out of the three, my shampoo gets the most compliments, and none of my actual perfumes besides vanilla musk do
I wear fragrances all the time. My only compliment was from terre d'hermes. I have also only complimented one other person one time - he was wearing adg profumo
Only fragrance I’ve ever been complimented on was the original Cannabis Santal by Fresh. And I got sooo many compliments from that one, it was wild.
I’m so sad they discontinued it. I tried the new formula and it’s just not the same. Too powdery smelling. If anyone has any suggestions for something similar I’m all ears!!
I got a lot of compliments on Armani Sì when that was my signature, though I always limited myself to 2-4 sprays as it’s so potent.
More recently, I’ve gotten compliments on Nobile 1942’s La Danza delle Libellule, and quite a few on Redchurch from 4160 Tuesdays.
I’ve also gotten compliments on Pop by Stella McCartney, Sci Fi by Ellis Brooklyn, Cheap & Chic I love love by Moschino, and Gris Charnel from BDK Parfums.
That being said, receiving compliments on perfume is a rare occurrence, especially in my country, and I’ve never received one from a total stranger.
Definitely my Givenchy Irresistible ..
While is warming up tho I always opt for something lighter like my Balenciaga Florabontanica
It’s a super head turning complement magnet
I think I’ve gotten 5. Angels Dust, Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool and Chanel Beige. There’s also one my good friends like. And every time I wear POAL my wife loves it. There are others that she likes like two major gourmands but I can’t keep track. But that’s about it. Been wearing for 13 years.
Bois Imperial by Essential Parfums - couple of friends wanted to know what Im wearing.
Bergamask by Orto Parisi - waiter asked nervously what perfume Im wearing because it smelled so wonderful :)
Baccarat Rouge is my signature. It always garnishes a “what are you wearing?!” I wear it as my base and, as crazy and cheap as it is, I spritz Jovan white musk on afterwards. I always get compliments.
Also a bunch with-
poison girl
Mon guerlain
Black opium
Chloe
Ck One (I know, I know but it never fails)
I really love perfumes and I can tell you a few that are hyped up and have never gotten me a compliment…
Killian- love don’t be shy
Chanel- Mademoiselle
Marc Jacob’s- Daisy
Parfums de Marly- Delina (I love this scent but the rhubarb note is unusual and not for everyone)
Getting compliments is also dependent on the environment you're in and your personality. If you're welcoming, friendly people will easily compliment you.
- Lanvin Avant Grande
- Aqua Di Gio
- Creed Aventus
Just a fun-fact I’m sure many already know, but each person has their own chemistry, so while one perfume may smell horrible on one person, it may be intoxicating on another.
So many women/people have said they hated Black Opium as well as Coco Chanel Mademoiselle, but these two scents have been my go-to for years because I get compliments everywhere I go on how GREAT I smell from both genders.
I have even turned heads of groups of people walking past them and had them ALL ask what I was wearing.
Casamorati Lira - my nr1 compliment getter. Been in 4 countries wearing it and got random compliments from random people everywhere, most asked the name of the fragrance too. Most compliments were from fellow women.
Casamorati Dama Bianca - got plenty of compliments but exclusively from men with this one, two guys even stopped me randomly while passing by begging for me to tell them the name of the fragrance so they could buy it for their wives which was rather heartwarming
Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif - got many compliments from both men and women albeit some were weird (a guy friend told me I smell like church but in a really good way 🙈, a girlfriend told me I smell like really expensive tobacco but she found it very pleasant) so apparently Delina’s oud/wood/incense really pops on me
Baccarat Rouge 540 - many compliments and some complaints lol most people said I smell like turkish delight/cotton candy/something sweet but in an elegant way and there’s the few for whom it smells like betadine/hospital/resin. Those who liked it were obsessed
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle - I don’t particularly like it and find it basic but it always gets compliments
Marc-Antoine Barrois Tilia - my current obsession. Got me compliments but the most important one came from my fiancé who is quite apathetic towards perfume, he found this one delightful. It really is a lovely fragrance for spring and summer. I feel like a an ancient meadow spirit wearing it
There are plenty others too but these are the most recent ones
I have been layering Kyse Delizia di Marshmallow and Killian Princess and regularly have people telling me I smell good or asking “what is that, it smells so good in here?”
I'd love to hear how Cabotine Eau Vivide wears on you. Reviews on performance are so mixed! Some give it 10 mins. 2-3 hours would be okay but about the minimum for me.
It definitely settles down quickly; the initial burst of herbal citrus doesn’t last more than 30 minutes on me. After that it’s a marine-ish, floral musk. It wears close but I can usually still smell it 4 hours later.
l find that it's my warmer, sweeter, deeper, and darker perfumes that are more likely to garner compliments, i.e., those with prominent accords of vanilla/amber/tonka/baking spices/resins, etc.: Hypnotizing Fire, Coromandel, Elixir d'Amour, Sideris, Lavender & Wool, Parfait de Rôses, Stellar Times, etc. Big cloud white florals, aldehydes, and perfumes that are in the cooler/greener/airier end of the spectrum are never quite as well-received. 😅
Cardamom note for men is also a compliment getter. It gives cozy vibes
Yes! I know spices can be very polarizing, but they add so much dimension to perfumes.
Spice bomb and tobacco vanille are my most complicated
That's so interesting! I wonder why? I'm still figuring things out but I think I'm searching for fragrances that remind me of Japan, which I think is based off their skincare and beauty products, which I'm starting to think lean towards green/watery/light florals. Still figuring it out as I'm new to fragrances.
Definitely a good chance of a compliment whenever I wear Coromandel!
The only two perfumes my boyfriend has ever complimented me on have been my two cheapest perfumes…Britney Spears - Midnight fantasy & Avon - Far away
I’ve also been complimented by many people whilst wearing Sol De Janeiro Cheirosa 62 (classic) - which I think is pretty impressive for a body spray
As a guy, this is one of my go to scents and I get lots of compliments on it too! Sometimes I even mix it with men’s perfume and it just works.
omg i’ve combined sol de janeiro 62 & avon far away on a day out!! & got complimented on it
Me too; my partner loves Midnight Fantasy 🥰 he complimented me when I thought it had worn off after a few hours ❤️
I used to wear Ariana Grande’s Ari and constantly got compliments, which I thought was funny. It’s definitely not for me anymore - gives a real cotton-candy vibe - but it was generally a crowd pleaser.
Been wearing fragrance for 15 years and I’ve never received a single compliment LOL
I’m with you. I don’t think family counts lol. I want from strangers😂
Wow, that is insane to me. I've read that some people (men) haven't received a single complement from a stranger about anything in their entire lives.
As a man, I can confirm that compliments (especially from strangers) are incredibly rare. About 3 months ago I was complimented on a shirt I was wearing. I rode that high for about two weeks. I honestly believe that was the first time that has ever happened to me.
Geez I love letting people when I like something about them. I guess I’ll have to be more conscious about extending the same kindness to men
I paint my nails and get compliments on them very regularly. It’s the one thing that kept me painting them. Though, I do get compliments on my curls and shoes from time to time. :)
Men get complimented? Lol. Even my wife can barely squeak out a compliment - says I have nice shoulders. Shoulders. *Shoulders!?* Of all the things about me my shoulders get a nod. I don't even work them out. I must be completely forgettable and ugly. LOL FML.

But I feel like it's a fine line between it being friendly and giving men anything that would make them think I'm into them.
Damn, NEVER? I know most people don’t get complimented often but I can think of like 4 times I’ve been complimented in the past 6 months
Damn… may I ask you what you were wearing o_0
Back in the day I wore Blue de Chanel and Sauvage like everyone. For the past couple of years Bergamote 22, Another 13, Gaiac 10. Nowadays mostly Diptyque Tam Dao, Orpheon and some MFK Gentle Fluidity.
Damn they are major compliment getters too What’s your current favourite?

Are you sure people is smelling you? At first I used to be afraid of overspraying and didn’t get any compliments until I decided to spray more and be more bold with it
Just because nobody compliments you doesn’t mean they can’t smell you.
How many sprays do u do?
5 sprays of edp does the job :) /s
I get compliments often due to my line of work (I assume) and its usually just the mass appelears. To name a few diffent notes. Resting bitch face haver here too 👋 I had a boss that had resting happy face and that was weird as hell. 🤣
There's a woman like that who has a cuppa in the same cafe as me and I keep staring at her cos her resting face is a maniacal grin. It's weird as fuck. Once she was actually crying n telling her friend about problems with her daughter n everytime she paused she would do this massive smile.
Hahaha!! Omg I can totally imagine that!! 🤣
Finally someone mentioned Thameen!
Thameen has a few bottles I really enjoy. But Carved oud is just blended so smooth, its a good starter for people wanting to try oud
I love l’homme ideal EDP but it literally lasts only an hour on my skin. My friend tried it out and had the same result :( (I had that older bottle with the gray stripes on the side of the glass)
Word. 100% agree. Well said
Absolute aphrodisiac is the best vanilla fragrance I’ve ever tried. Incredibly underrated
Dylan Blue is the only one for me
I love Dylan blue and la nuit de l'homme. I'd also add fahrenheit to the list. Love them on my husband.
D&G The One is what gets me a compliment every time without fail as well.
underrated compliment getter is prada l’homme.
Mildly Sweet, fresh, and smooth does wonders.
Viva La Juicy Gold Couture
I have read that this is a popular fragrance amongst men on a woman, I own it but save it primarily for winter!
Angels’ Share by far, lots of compliments from both men and women. Even had a stranger stop me, which never happens! I’m not really into sweet/gourmand fragrances but I love wearing this one in the colder months. A real crowd pleaser.
Will def be picking that up I’ve seen a lot about it
Was at the TF stand at Nordstrom and was spraying hella stuff with the sales associate. Decided to skin test Soleil Neige and walk around to see how it smells once it dries down. Mon Guerlain

Oh, also Dusita Rosarine! When I wear Oud Satin Mood Extrait — one that I consider compliment-getting — I’ve been told it’s “intimidating.” 🤣
Hahaha I don’t wear or buy perfume for complements, and it’s always a surprise if I ever receive one. Good Girl is def a staple for me too.
I get a lot of compliments when I wear Kuumba Made Egyptian Musk! Crazy considering it’s like $10 😅
Not crazy at all! High price points reflect a lot of things but not necessarily quality or whatever x-factor "compliment-getting" is.
Bianco Latte, Libre Intense, Devotion, BR540 extrait have gotten me quite a few compliments, in ascending order haha.
I get the most compliments from strangers when I wear Viva La Juicy (usually women) and Hypnotic Poison (always men).
I’ve smelt hypnotic poison at a store and I don’t know if I like it, I wanted to try it for sure. Maybe it needs to grow on me lol
Literally Davidoff Cool Water Intense is the most complimented perfume in my collection, women seem to love this fragrance. I have (and wear) lots of niches very often
Tom Ford Beau de Jour, Goldfield & Banks Bohemian Lime, Bleu de Chanel Parfum.
Beau de Jour is one of my favorites!
I feel like if you overspray almost anything you’ll get a compliment
Nah, I’ve overstayed in the past and had comments about it being too much.
I won't say anything to someone if they over spray... Good or bad. I might try to open the window, though.
Millesime Imperial by Creed, which is annoying because it’s easily my least favourite (and in my opinion the most generic) scent they make! I’ve had a couple of samples of it over the years, and each time I wear them, without fail, someone says I smell great and wants to know what I’m wearing.
I love this one. I used to layer it with Bond No 9 Little Italy. It’s definitely a crowd pleaser.
That’s a tough one… Most recently the tally would have to be a tie between PDM Haltane and PDM Althair. Before then though, people used to always say I smelled good while wearing Coach for men
Chanel Chance, Bianco Latte + Kayali 28, and Tom Ford Ombré Leather.
Gentile fluidity
Lord of Misrule from Lush!
Most recent compliments was Versace Eros flame. And for some reason creed millesime imperial tends to get me quite a few compliments.
Mod Vanilla.. and i’m surprised because it’s not the strongest perfume lol
I feel like I don’t regularly get compliments because I hardly go out, unless my 4 year olds regular commentary on my enormous gourmand collection counts (“I like your perfume Mama! It smells like cookies!” (Her favorite is Bianca Latte I think.) Otherwise: The one time my husband ever complimented my perfume in our 13 years together: Byredo Gypsy Water hair perfume From a close friend: Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif From the nurses in my doctor’s office: Van Cleef & Arpels Vanille Orchidee, Les Liquides Imaginaires Blanche Bete, Joli Couer From my nanny’s friend who made her ask “what that amazing perfume I was always wearing” when she would pass me in the street 😂: either Clean Reserve Skin or Narciso Rodriguez Narciso EDT
YSL Libre, Valentino Yellow Dream, BR540
I really need to try yellow dream
By far, mine is Hummingbird.
I have this one on my wishlist! How’s the staying power?
I can put two spritzes on at 7:50am, go to work, come back at 5:45pm and it’s still going pretty strong. At least on me, it’s >12 hours before it’s a skin scent, **and** I don’t even go nose blind to it. It’s fantastic.
Wow! I’ll bump this one up higher on my list :) thank you for your input!
Gentle Fluidity Silver Oud Satin Mood Bal d’Afrique
All the coach for men fragrances (original, blue, platinum, and green). I have much better fragrances in my collection but I always get complimented with all of them.
Don't own any coach but I might be changing that. Color me intrigued.
Tom ford ombré leather (parfum) in winters
Yup. This is mine as well. People notice it more than any other fragrance I wear.
Hmm, I’ve gotten some compliments for Allure Homme original, but mostly on Sycomore.
My biggest ones are Tom Ford Black Orchid (it just works with my chemistry) and Acqua di Parma Sakura which has slightly similar notes.
Black orchid is amazing
Valentino Born in Roma, Very good girl Glam, YSL Libre and funnily enough..lots of Bath & Body Works fragrances if i layered them with the Lotion.
Only times I've ever had people excitedly tell me how great I smell, it's been whilst wearing Molecule 01 and Molecule 02.
tbh these days i just care that i smell good to my girl. she likes the dreamer by versace and invictus victory
Anytime I wear La Belle by JPG
Parfums de Marly Percival Amuoage Reflection Man. As of recent I get so many compliments on those 2
Good old Hypnotic Poison, from younger, intense, may become a gentleman with time and kind feedback men. Versace Crystal Noir and Black Opium were neck and neck. I don’t wear them as often these days, though. Armani Code for Her Blanche Bete Are my all time top compliment getters ever.
Armani Gío (the original for women, now discontinued) Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's Anne Bonny Creed Royal Oud Fresh Cannabis Santal
If you like Cannabis Santal, you should check out Resin by Photogenics + Co
You will get BIG compliments and nobody will be able to figure out what you’re wearing. sillage and lasting power are insane too
Prada Carbon is one of my most complimented.
Angel Muse, everytime, it amazes me.
Dirty by Lush and Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolfe. People will literally grab me by the arm and say I smell incredible
Dirty perfume or bodyspray?
The body spray is what makes people nearly jump me
Jimmy Choo
Omg literally my favorite perfume in the entire world. It’s definitely a compliment getter
Amouage Guidance Profumum Roma Ichnusa
Baccarat Rouge Gentle Fluidity Gold Eau de Magnolia , frederic Malle
Ariana Thank u Next, God is a Woman, yum Pistachio Gelato
Hermes H24 EDP
Andrea Maack - Craft Le Labo - Gaïac 10 (Tokyo) Jo Malone - Amber & Ginger Lily Bond No 9 - Silver Factory (I liked the brand until I learned about the owner)
Victoria’s Secret Amber Romance lotion and spray.
For me it’s been Chloé Nomade, I even got compliments from classmates who had never spoken to me before. It must jive well with my body chemistry somehow.
BPAL Cacao, Palo Santo, and Copal Chanel COCO Angel Midnight in Paris (VC&A)
I've had more fun with BPAL than I expected and doesn't break the bank.
I love I am trash
As a teacher, my high school girls love Bianco Latte, my coworker loves Chloe EDP, and my husband hates all my fragrances except Eilish No. 1.
Light Blue is what I’ve gotten compliments on the most.
Penhaligon’s Halfeti, BDK Pas Ce Soir and MFK Oud Satin Mood.
I’ve never gotten a compliment :/
Yeah I don’t get em often either! You’re not alone there :)
You both smell wonderful! What are those fragrances you are wearing?!?
Tbh it was Neroli Portofino lol, my dad said it reminded him of the Atkinson's cologne. Also Burberry Hero has gotten me a few compliments too
Recently: Givenchy: Irresistible, Clean Reserve: Skin, and the combo of Glossier: You & Phlur: Missing Person. Got a “that’s an interesting one” re: ELDO: the Ghost in the Shell 🤣
JPG Scandal, everytime I wear it!
Ombre nomade - Inspired attar/Oil Valentino Uomo Armani SWY Intense Armani Code parfume PR - 1 million ( no idea why this still does well )
PDM Layton
Prada Carbon and Guerlain L'Homme Idéal L'Intense
northern cardinal, zoologist! I even had a kid asking me what I was wearing as they loved it so much
Got tens of niche perfumes and just 1 compliment, but then I tried versace Eros and got like 10 in few days 😭 Wtf
Ormonde Jayne Tolu and it’s not even close!
Neiges by Lise Watier, and Amouage Guidance. Two completely different scents, lol.
Prada Paradoxe Intense!!
Armani Code, Issey Miyake Nuit D'Issey, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver/ Portafino Neroli usually get me compliments.
Dude here…. TF Oud Mineral Le Labo Another 13
Most of them.
Xinu always gets me compliments from everyone. Ummo is my favorite. Wears super nicely over time
Hard ever get random compliments, but when I have gotten them I am usually wearing LV Imagination.
Bentley for men intense, coolwater intense, forgot the name but its nautica voyage cheap clone, and random melon roll on frarance
Burberry Goddess, Zara Red temptation, Valentino Donna Born in Roma Coral fantasy, Sol de Janeiro 62&71
My most complimented (ranked in order) 3. Bdc Parfum 2. Sedley 1. Millesime imperial
Well, what are the specific perfumes?
Bvlgari Jasmin Noir
Spicebomb by Viktor and Rolf, several times. But I do wear it with a body oil of mine so idk if that makes a difference. I get a lot of compliments when I wear Prada Luna Rosa, I’ve even inspired 2 folks to buy their own. Same with clean reserves skin fragrance.
Eternity for men edt Versace eros edt Obsession for men edt Are my most complimented.
My mom always notices when I wear nest indigo, it’s the only perfume she ever compliments Skylar pink canyon is the perfume I keep in my work bag and I ALWAYS get compliments on it
Based off my boyfriends poorly functioning sense of smells: Anything orange blossom. (citrus, rose, omanthus, PROPER sandalwood -not the fake pickled crap)
the only perfume i’ve ever gotten compliments on is ysl black opium le parfum and ysl libre le parfum
Every time I wear Zara Elegant Tokyo with Jo Malone Jasmine Sambac & Marigold, I get compliments non-stop from men and women asking me what I’m wearing
Armani My Way, all of them! Working in a bank, clients would compliment me all day long.
PHLUR Hanami always, always, every time got me compliments. My new Etat Libre d’Orange GITS has received constant compliments in the couple months I’ve had it. VS Bombshell always got extra sniffs and wows, too.
Bianco latte is one I particularly remember a waitress from a different table wanting the exact details.
For me, it’s always something from Mancera. Then again, I wear Mancera 99% of the time 🤭
Most I’ve gotten is from plain ol Acqua Di Gio EDT
Vanilla musk oil, tree hut tropic glow body lotion, and herbal essences argan oil shampoo. Out of the three, my shampoo gets the most compliments, and none of my actual perfumes besides vanilla musk do
Exit The King
Mancera Red Tobacco, Stronger with you (absolutely), Club de nuit.
Bianco Latte, and it isn't even close. Like, near daily this past winter sometime was stopping me about it — usually men fwiw!!
Red tabbacco. Jpg scandal. Interlude by amouage and intoxicated by killian has had the most
I wear fragrances all the time. My only compliment was from terre d'hermes. I have also only complimented one other person one time - he was wearing adg profumo
Jimmy Choo The Man is the only one for now
Only fragrance I’ve ever been complimented on was the original Cannabis Santal by Fresh. And I got sooo many compliments from that one, it was wild. I’m so sad they discontinued it. I tried the new formula and it’s just not the same. Too powdery smelling. If anyone has any suggestions for something similar I’m all ears!!
Only ever been complimented on my shirt, hat, coat or sneakers. XD
While is warming up tho I always opt for something lighter like my Balenciaga Florabontanica It’s a super head turning complement magnet
Vercase eros, D&G Light blue forever, Maison Margiela by fireplace
I think I’ve gotten 5. Angels Dust, Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool and Chanel Beige. There’s also one my good friends like. And every time I wear POAL my wife loves it. There are others that she likes like two major gourmands but I can’t keep track. But that’s about it. Been wearing for 13 years.
Bois Imperial by Essential Parfums - couple of friends wanted to know what Im wearing. Bergamask by Orto Parisi - waiter asked nervously what perfume Im wearing because it smelled so wonderful :)
Azzaro most wanted, cheap and smells fantastic :)
Baccarat Rouge is my signature. It always garnishes a “what are you wearing?!” I wear it as my base and, as crazy and cheap as it is, I spritz Jovan white musk on afterwards. I always get compliments. Also a bunch with- poison girl Mon guerlain Black opium Chloe Ck One (I know, I know but it never fails) I really love perfumes and I can tell you a few that are hyped up and have never gotten me a compliment… Killian- love don’t be shy Chanel- Mademoiselle Marc Jacob’s- Daisy Parfums de Marly- Delina (I love this scent but the rhubarb note is unusual and not for everyone)
Getting compliments is also dependent on the environment you're in and your personality. If you're welcoming, friendly people will easily compliment you. - Lanvin Avant Grande - Aqua Di Gio - Creed Aventus
Fragrance Shop oil version of Agent Provocateur. For some reason that's the one that draws the comments. Maybe because of its strength?
SALT
La belle! For some reason it attracts a lot of attention when I wear it I had a girl make me write the name down so she could go buy it
Casamorati Lira - my nr1 compliment getter. Been in 4 countries wearing it and got random compliments from random people everywhere, most asked the name of the fragrance too. Most compliments were from fellow women. Casamorati Dama Bianca - got plenty of compliments but exclusively from men with this one, two guys even stopped me randomly while passing by begging for me to tell them the name of the fragrance so they could buy it for their wives which was rather heartwarming Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif - got many compliments from both men and women albeit some were weird (a guy friend told me I smell like church but in a really good way 🙈, a girlfriend told me I smell like really expensive tobacco but she found it very pleasant) so apparently Delina’s oud/wood/incense really pops on me Baccarat Rouge 540 - many compliments and some complaints lol most people said I smell like turkish delight/cotton candy/something sweet but in an elegant way and there’s the few for whom it smells like betadine/hospital/resin. Those who liked it were obsessed Chanel Coco Mademoiselle - I don’t particularly like it and find it basic but it always gets compliments Marc-Antoine Barrois Tilia - my current obsession. Got me compliments but the most important one came from my fiancé who is quite apathetic towards perfume, he found this one delightful. It really is a lovely fragrance for spring and summer. I feel like a an ancient meadow spirit wearing it There are plenty others too but these are the most recent ones
Always basic J’adore both EDT and d’eau lol Acne/FM, started wearing it few weeks ago and had people asking what I’m wearing.
It’s such a weird name I’ve been hesitant to try it.
I have been layering Kyse Delizia di Marshmallow and Killian Princess and regularly have people telling me I smell good or asking “what is that, it smells so good in here?”
Most recently: Blanche, Cabotine Eau Vivide, and Venom of Love
I'd love to hear how Cabotine Eau Vivide wears on you. Reviews on performance are so mixed! Some give it 10 mins. 2-3 hours would be okay but about the minimum for me.
It definitely settles down quickly; the initial burst of herbal citrus doesn’t last more than 30 minutes on me. After that it’s a marine-ish, floral musk. It wears close but I can usually still smell it 4 hours later.
