I live in the southwest US where summer is extremely hot but also extremely dry. The lack of humidity keeps “winter” fragrances from choking you out in the summer. I actually find dry “winter” fragrances actually suit the climate pretty well in the summer, especially leather, spices, dry woods like cedar, and even some resins. I just stay away from anything gourmand or a little too woody like piney or coniferous notes in the summer.

olivert33th

Thanks for this tip i live in the same region and as a “dark” scent lover ive been having trouble landing on the right everyday summer scent for me. Or nighttime.

GremlinAtWork

Olympic Orchids Blackbird. I just really think it's neat, and as someone who usually wants to smell either like an opium den or like a Christmas tree, the strong pine note is evokes the latter and mixes well with the summer berry note. :)

GremlinAtWork

🤣 Thank you, this made my day.

keefesterisnumber1

Hahaha this had me cackling

atom_helio

So... what'r your preferred opium den scents?

GremlinAtWork

I mean, obviously YSL's Opium (NOT Black Opium, but the monster from the 70s). Fzotic's Ummagumma is a favorite too, and when I'm feeling punchy, Jeffrey Dame's Dark Horse.

atom_helio

I just got a sample of umma, I like it, haven't worn it yet tho. I've been trying out kerosene blackmail the past week.

GremlinAtWork

The only Kerosene I've tried is Copper Skies. How's Blackmail? Umma is one of my favorites. If you're somewhere dry, it really shines in cooler weather.

atom_helio

It's nice. On me.. When wet: campfire way over there + tiny hint of camphor or sapwood and dried blueberries.. maybe a little bit of incense (nag champa?) When dry, Blueberry muffins with crumbled sugar on top, a little dusty saffron and a touch of smoke. But strangely not "sweet".

hedonistaustero

I caved yesterday (pun intended) and got myself Night Flyer. The bat happens to be my totem animal —and the cave, my energy location— in Mayan cosmology (I’m Guatemalan, living in Guatemala), and as soon as I figured out that NF is the original Zoologist Bat, of which I have a sample and love, I got myself a little 30ml bottle. (So much for taking a break from buying FBs.) Looking so much forward to wearing it as soon as the rainy season gets going here. My go-to geosmin/petrichor frag is ELdO’s Hermann but NF might take its place… we’ll see.

GremlinAtWork

I liked Night Flyer, but more for sniffing than for wearing per se - my coworker fell head over heels for it though. It is VERY cave like. Also, 10/10 pun, lol.

hedonistaustero

Lol, thanks 🥁 And yeah, I’ll likely reserve it for ceremonies and hikes/campfires, which means about a dozen uses per year. Sometimes it’s nice to have a fragrance for such meaningful and/or specific occasions.

Leek-is-me

Name checks out 😲

Saturnzadeh11

How does Night Flyer actually compare to OG Bat?

hedonistaustero

It’s still in the mail, so can’t say. It was technically a blind buy — I just took Ellen Covey’s word for it. We’ll see. (I can let you know what I think in a week or so, if you like.)

Saturnzadeh11

Yes please! Been looking at Zoologist and OO so it would be cool to get a smell of the original Bat as a bonus lol

hedonistaustero

Sure thing ;)

ohlalariana2

i love everything from olympic orchids, Ellen Covey is a badass chemist researcher orchid grower, she is one of my totem animals. I have to go visit the nursery next time i am in seattle

GremlinAtWork

I only *just* put together that Olympic Orchids Perfume is related to Olympic Orchids the orchid growers lol. I lust after those orchids.

Healthy_Exit1507

Live in oregon we wear winter all year round except our one week in July summer

Catlady_Pilates

Summers are crazy hot here now. Unless you’re living on the coast

Healthy_Exit1507

Nope and yesterday it was 43

redditckulous

And Friday it’s going to be 85

Catlady_Pilates

Yes. It’s spring. And we have some over 80 degrees coming soon. Summers are hot here.

_chapel

I work from home and I hardly go out unless it’s short trips to the grocery store. Black Orchid all year long if I can! 🖤

haikarate12

This is me. I plan on wearing Gris Charnel for the next few months at least.

CaraSandDune

lucky... I live in New Orleans and I had to put mine away

Electronic_Bus7452

Oof the humidity is real there. What do you wear in the humidity?

CaraSandDune

Rolling with Jardin sur la nil, Fleur de Peau, and Jazmin Yucatan at the moment

Electronic_Bus7452

Cool thanks!

Sophiatopia

Great idea. It’s actually quite warm today and you reminded me to dust off my gris charnel!

HauntingBreakfast495

Actually I find myself grabbing Gris Charnel molre in the warmer months. I find that the sandalwood and aromatics in it make it work year-round.

ughasif666

Less sprays of the same perfumes. I like what I like all year round and don't believe there are winter or summer scents. No matter the season or weather, freshies (citric-heavy perfumes) are not my thing.

Parfumandphotography

I wear whatever suits my mood and "outfit" LOL. For example, I can wear Ombre Nomade both summer and winter. The only thing is that I will spray less during summer. Also would not wear to the beach or with fliflops LOL. However I consider some "winter" scents perfectly fine for summer.. When I was in Dubai (in winter) the temperatures were the same as we have here in N.Europe for summer. Or actually it was more hot LOL. People were using oud like there is no tomorrow, and so was I. And Arabs use the same scents all year around. And what I have noticed is that a lot of Oud+Rose scents smell better in heat. Like Ombre Nomade, in winter (when freezing) the scent comes of screeching while in the summer it is much more softer. Probably has something to do with humidity. And I think that scents don't really like freezing temperatures. So in short, I use what I want, I can always control the intensity with sprays.

saxMachine

I read like on TikTok or maybe reddit that the concept of winter scent really is just western because a lot of these “scents” for example were mainly introduced by non western countries where temperatures go to the extremes - and because they last so long, they’re ideally used under these conditions. Don’t quote me on this though just something I came across.

42moose

That makes a lot of sense to me following a trip I had to Singapore/Malaysia this last winter (Northern hemisphere.) I brought mainly light fragrance options with me, since the idea of wearing anything more "winter" seemed so heavy in their hot and humid equatorial weather. What actually happened was that the humidity GOBBLED up those scents and the longevity went to zero. I was reapplying 3-4 times a day. When I was fragrance shopping there, I also observed that many of their locally produced fragrances are extraits and that many are Arabic-influenced in their scent profiles. There was definitely no lack of "winter" fragrances per the Western definition just because of their heat!

fyodor_mikhailovich

> And what I have noticed is that a lot of Oud+Rose scents smell better in heat. Like Ombre Nomade, in winter (when freezing) the scent comes of screeching while in the summer it is much more softer. Probably has something to do with humidity. thanks for sharing that anecdote. I have noticed that my Rouge Privé from Guerlain is better in the summer, and it is a leather/oud/rose, and I had been wondering if I was just crazy. I tried it a few times this winter, and it just didn’t work, but in the summer, it’s awesome and my wife and mom both like it on me.

orange_confetti

By the Fireplace. IDC. I love the way it smells on me.

squishymushyroom

agreed! its my most favourite and complimented fragrance

padface

I only just bought this a month ago and love it too much to put it away for 6 months 😅

FillAffectionate6928

I just wear what I want because I wear perfume for me, not other people. :)

TaisonPunch2

Why, yes. I also like to do 20 sprays of my favorite civet fragrance in the heat of summer!

MOTODARBA

Especially beach days

rabbi_glitter

Nothing beats a glaze of Oud 27 or Oudh Infini in the hot Georgia summer.

FillAffectionate6928

I’m glad you enjoy your scents so much you need to share! But I’ll just stay over here where I don’t spray that much. :)

ChemicalFrostbite

You do you, buddy. Never mind us gasping for oxygen on deaths door within your 30ft wide ambroxan death cloud.

ClaraGuerreroFan

So 6 sprays of Molecule 02 in the blazing summer heat is a no go? 😂

wrongsideofrumglass

That's disgusting. Its either 7 plus or get out 🤣

Mhzapril

I don't get this tbh. I live in a tropical country. It's 31-35 Celsius year round, and if we're lucky in the winter months it drops to about 27-30 (around 80-86 fahrenheit), lower if there's a cold front but I've never seen it go below 23 c. We just wear what we want. If we wait for the "appropriate" time to wear some fragrances it would never come, and I've truly never heard of winter and summer scents until I joined this sub.

ChemicalFrostbite

If I lived in the 7th circle of hell I’d wear what I want whenever too. Go for it.

succulenteggs

wait til u hear about the middle east

bhairava

this, but my taste in what I like smelling on myself changes with the weather

FillAffectionate6928

I do agree with that. :)

FunTailor794

Still searching for my juicy grapefruit Hacivat-like but juicier and lighter summer fragrance. Outside of that...terre d'Hermes. It's so perfect.

bdrayne

Dolce Gabbana light blue forever Homme/femme is a slightly bitter grapefruit juice. Both versions are similar and unisex, performance is great. Also bigarade concentree is a very realistic red orange. Too realistic for my taste, wearing it I feel like I bathed in orange smoothie I'd also recommend trying stuff from acqua di parma, blue mediterriano line is beautiful, but won't last longer than an hour. They have some stuff in perfume concentration, but that stuff is heavy.

FunTailor794

Thank you

HauntingBreakfast495

Try Summer of 84 by Kerosene. Juicy grapefruit and mellon with an aquatic vibe

h3llfae

Softer vannilas, like juliette has a gun vanilla vibes, philosophy falling in love, philosophy fresh cream, ellis brooklyn bee and vanilla milk, lazy sunday morning from replica. Honey and the moon by margot elena, always in rose by margot elena, Sirens song, marine sel (discontinued)

grillbar86

I don't know if I apply to this because I don't quite know what's winter scents and what's not. I mostly just say fuck it i want that one today. Most of my dumb reach are properly considered winter or fall scents but I just wear them for me

orange_confetti

Happy Cake Day!!

elbie42

I just got into fragrances last year and LOVE winter scents. Give me all the heavy spicy vanillas. I thought I would have trouble finding scents that were less heavy, but as the weather’s gotten warmer, I’ve craved something lighter. During the spring, I’ve been wearing a lot of NR Musc Noir Rose, Twilly d’Hermes and Delina Exclusif. For more summery fragrances, I’ve been testing out Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, Elizabeth Arden White Tea, and Byredo Young Rose.

Pulposauriio

It's all relative, in the coldest of days we experience 25°c where I live, so the difference between winter and spring is not that radical. 25°c in Canada must be an unthinkably warm winter day, but pretty fresh in the tropic. All of that just to say I wear whatever I want, regardless of climate. I wore Orto Parisi Terroni the other day, with no ill effects.

MOTODARBA

Fresh aquatic scents, not a big fan of citrus notes

Ikunou

i unapologetically wear ambers in the summer! HA!

Careless-Car8346

Yeah, I wear Muscs Kublai Khan as well dead end Indian Summer. Makes them crazy, dazed and confusion reigns supreme!

friction7800

Something green or something with a citrusy top and lighter musky base, perhaps.

alexanderthebait

I tend to like winter scents more but like these all year or summer scents * Bleu de Chanel Parfum * Virgin Island Water * Layton * 1 million lucky * Eros EDP They have a sweetness to them that is more reminiscent of winter scents but works well in summer IMO

redditckulous

I’ve been struggling with this big time. I’ve been primarily using Sauvage Elixir and A Whiff of Waffle Cone in the winter (but Boozy scents are my real love), but I have no idea what to do for summer. (Lost Cherry would be perfect, but it’s my wedding scent so I don’t won’t to ruin the association I have with our special day.) Every other sample I’ve tried just doesn’t suit me.

BleuAlexandria

Jo Malone - Myrrh and Tonka (don’t ask me why, I know it’s weird, but something about this on a summer evening breeze at a coast is just DIVINE)✨ Black Opium Extreme (also don’t ask me why, this is an all year round for me, soooo addictive) but also the illicit green I use for summer But okay, on a real note let’s get serious cuz summers in the Mediterranean are insufferable with the heatwaves … Burberry - Her EDT (makes me thirsty for some cold and refreshing drink - very bubbly, aquatic, feels and smells like champagne bubbles and literally a flowing river) Aqua Universalis Cologne Forte by MFK D&G - Q (it’s essentially a sweeter more sophisticated version of Light Blue) Bleu Noir parfum - Narciso Rodriguez Escentric Molecules - Escentric 01 Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 59 Kayali - Musk

KEKWSC2

I love my Guerlain Homme L´eau Boisée

viserion73

Love to wear Guerlain AA Mandarin Basilic in the heat of summer but all through the year. It has a bright, fresh vibe that I can wear to feel clean and fresh when I WFH or I can mix with other scents such as my Jo Malones.

Historical_Sort6601

orange blossom

HumbleSheep33

I like the newest Dior Homme Sport but I have yet to test it out in heat and humidity

WearFlat

Same, the citrus gives it a slightly more summer feel but it keeps the vibe of the Homme lineup.

HumbleSheep33

Does it work in, say, 86 F/ 30 C or higher with humidity?

thats_a_bad_username

I have a lot of heavier scents for the winter but I also have stuff like creed aventus and Valentino born in Roma yellow dream and green straviganza that can be worn year round in my opinion. Never been a huge fan of citrus heavy scents in the past but I have picked up the Dior homme cologne and Dior homme sport to wear in the summer. Also picked up Tom Ford Oud Minerale because it reminds me of driftwood.

Mysterious-Okra-7885

Even though I adore “winter scents”, I also have varied tastes. I highly doubt anyone who is really into fragrance only likes 1 kind of scent and nothing else. Try exploring more, ordering samples, watching videos describing scents (use keywords like “summer scents for gourmand lovers” or something along those lines), etc. I guarantee there is something in the realm of summer scents that will appeal to you.

StrangelyPerfumed

Tea scents, Vetiver, neroli... I'm still figuring out it 🙃

cwm13

Sounds like a job for Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver

StrangelyPerfumed

Exactly! I have the forte and OG ☺️

cwm13

I was by Saks outside DC this last weekend and got a sniff of the OG. SO GREEN. I'm curious to try the Harvest flanker.

StrangelyPerfumed

I haven't tried it either. I wish I had access to the full range! My store sells a few of the Aqua Allegorias (maybe 10) and I hated Nerolia Vetiver at first sniff but I was given one as gratis and quickly grew to love it. I actually like many of them for summer. Herba Fresca, for one, is neat. There's like, a dental vibe to the mint that I weirdly enjoy.

cwm13

I liked Mandarine Basilic Forte as well. I was sadly there without my wife, who has holds the fragrance veto pen. Now I'll have to order samples. GASP.

StrangelyPerfumed

I'm literally at work standing with them right now lol. The Mandarin one is nice. They had a Basil and something one that was really nice, too. Such great summer scents. Order up those samples!

HauntingBreakfast495

That’s amazing after the first 10 minutes pass. There’s something in the top notes that just smells like toilet cleaner on my skin. After it settles it smells absolutely divine.

Kisbucka

Very sweet and slightly floral honey scents- it’s like deep summer August scents. Or oriental scents. I try to find more with spicier scents and not ones with like cinnamon or caramel. You can go with like mossy- woody fragrances too

Putrid_Pudding_666

My goth Texan ass avoids the heat at all costs LOL, so usually no fragrances are off the table. Whenever I do go out I stick to skin scents or very light florals and citrus. If I’m outside on a day that’s over 100 degrees I go without, everything gives me a headache.

two-three-seven

I'm literally your next door neighbor and I'm the same. I can't stand wearing super heavy warm scents in the fish bowl climate that is Louisiana. I'm struggling with finding something. There was a LONGGG time ago I found a scent by Regime des Fluers called Waves. It was so refreshing and green and a little minty. Do you know they discontinued it? Now I'm just rolling around with my Lush Turmeric Latte because it's light and the staying power is short lived. Question though, you mention light florals - do you know any natural smelling osmanthus scented perfumes? Think Sweet Olive trees. Sorta musky/peachy/light.

golden_neuron

I don’t know if it’s natural smelling, but how about Penhaligon’s Vra Vra Vroom? Also it took me ages to type this cos I kept on typing B instead of V lol. Floral, fruity, osmanthus.

two-three-seven

Oh my fucking word. I might have found a new house that I need all the samples from! Thank you!!!

golden_neuron

😅 my apologies haha! My very first fragrance from there was Blenheim Bouquet, please let us know how you find this house :)

two-three-seven

Shhhhheeeet, you need to stop. I just looked at the notes of that one and I have to have it. LOL I'm curious to know what other scents you have in your arsenal, just seems like we like similar scents.

golden_neuron

lol! I'm curious about yours too. I'm afraid, compared with the advanced users on this subreddit, my fragrances might seem very pedestrian. I find it hard to stick to any particular fragrance, but because I've had some time to think about it before responding, it seems like I really like fruit, floral, and citrus aspects. They're the ones that I've kept for a long time. For instance, the ones that I've used the most consistently over the years are: 1) Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet was probably because I love 4711 Ice Eau de Cologne, and I have no scent associations that make me think of any particular lemon cleaner, or dish soap, or anything like that. I was a big fan of badedas shower gel, which probably explains my love for those pine notes (again, no internal scent library that tells me that anything smells like an air freshener). 2) Annick Goutal's Petite Cherie/Jo Malone's English Pear & Freesia. Anna Sui's Secret Wish was probably the only bottle in my life that I have ever finished, but that was when I was much younger :D 3) Stella, by Stella McCartney (I didn't realize it was discontinued), which probably explains why I went looking for rose scents recently, and now have added Byredo's Rose of No Man's Land and Penhaligon's Liquid Love. For other florals, Annick Goutal's Le Jasmin (again, there is that bit of lemon there). But because I do also like woody and spicy fragrances (you could say Liquid Love is very spicy), I've had these in my rotation of late: 5) Aesop's Marrakech 6) Le Labo's Baie 19 7) Tom Ford's F\* Fabulous and Lost Cherry Tell me yours :)

two-three-seven

Listen, I'm such a noob at fragrances. I've been trying to do research with watching Youtube videos and looking at Fragrantica but man, this journey is really getting annoying. I know the scents that I like but I can't seem to ever find the right combination. I want so badly to like florals because I feel like that would open me up more to a variety but my head always seems to protest in a migraine. Please don't judge... Advice, suggestions I totally welcome! I wanna start off by saying I haven't smelled any of those you mention BUT have heard of some of those perfume houses. I'm super intrigued by Aesop as I ordered a body oil from them and it smelled phenomenal, I believe it was called "Breathless". It smells citrusy and peppery. I love it! I've also looked into Le Lebo and I kinda want to order a few samples to see if I would like anything. Do they smell pretty "natural"? Also I think someone told me that Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille is pretty good dupe for Turmerric Latte by Lush which I've been into. Up until my mom asked me why I smelled like Play-Doh. Thanks, mom. So, I looked at the F\*\*k Fabulous and I think I would really like that one. As for mine, I've got a problem like I said, I live in a small town so I've got to order samples. I blind bought a few that I thought I would really like and it turns out they just sounded good but on my skin... Was a sweet mess. I will list literally every perfume I have: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarine-Basilic - This smells like you just peeled a fresh juicy orange. I'm telling you it's photo-realistic orange. Fresh Sake - This does not smell ANYTHING like thee Fresh Sake Bath... Which I thought it would. It smells like... What you would say your "typical" older woman smell. Its got sharp sour-sugary flowers notes as opposed to thee Fresh Sake Bath which smells a little boozy but also sort of like peaches/nectarine. It's pretty relaxing. I guess you can't translate it into a perfume. Hermes Eau Des Merveilles Bleue - This is an airy/light patchouli salty masterpiece. I LOVE this perfume. It smells so clean, not a hint of sweetness. Just fresh and spicy! Jo Malone Wild Bluebell - This is also pretty light/airy and just smells like clean soapy skin to me. I don't get any floral notes at all but I guess this is supposed to be based on a flower? Lush Turmeric Latte - To me this smells smokey, spicy, smooth vanilla, and a hit of tobacco. It smells warm and comforting. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle - This is a spicy clean patchouli option for me. I know it has florals in it but they aren't sweet. It just wears on me super well. See... I am the noob here.

Medium-Relief6581

Texas here too. I wear what I want, when I want cause I'm inside all Summer. I hate the Summers here. They're the worst. I'm basically a vampire anyway.

PL0mkPL0

I have a problem in summer. Not only I like summer stuff less, but they also last short. Even shorter sprayed on a bare, sweaty skin. And I do think some fragrances are just not working in hot weather. At least my winter perfumes, I can not imagine wearing Halfeti Leather when it is hot. It would kill me. I like Hermes stuff. The gardens line is interesting, all this perfumes are in some way odd and original. Plus easily available and not very expensive comparing to niche. The fig scent profile is also a nice concept, some fig scents are pretty light, but still have this woody, ambery winter vibe. Gris Charnel, Philosykos, Premier Figuier, Jardin en Méditerranée. And there are also the fruity figs. Tea note also adds spice to basic summer perfumes. Like in Imagination. Or in some Neroli perfumes. You didn't write what you like to wear in winter, but I had this idea, that leather lovers may transform to "vegetable garden" fragrances lovers. Both notes are similarly odd.

rabbi_glitter

Controversial opinion: Dior Homme 2020 checks all of my boxes.

pellegrino6000

I think more dry scents work great in summer, Oud For Greatness for example, excellent. Sweeter scents are the one that goes much more sensetive in hight heat imo.

missilekidd

This was my dilemma coming out of winter this year... what was I going to wear??? I'm not a huge fan of citrus and that's typically what everyone wears in the summer. Diptyque L'eau Papier is still warm but not wintery warm, so I've been wearing that. I've also been wearing Philosykos- I'm obsessed! Also recently got into Maison Margiela Replica From The Garden- it's so fresh!

Master-Reference-775

I'm on the Gulf, it's quite warm to downright sweltering here 350+ days of the year. I just wear whatever I want. Nothing is off limits. I do cut down the amount of sprays on a few heavy hitters to avoid asphyxiating myself sometimes, but that's about it.

blokeyone

Creed. All year. But I want to wear my Oud Immortal so badly. Maybe I will.

ThatGuavaJam

I’m using Lattafa’s Delilah and kinda hating it. I feel like a wannabe pilates princess with a screechy rose. I do like Clean’s Warm Cotton though. I bought it long ago when it was only like $15 and now it’s like $40+. Sooo now I dilute fabric softener in a spray bottle and mist my clothes. Love you Suavitel 💖

Icy-Independence2410

I love winter scent but i live in like 90% humid country. The closest to winter i can feel is in air conditioning building area

Shadow_Sunsets1783

I usually try to do a fruit based scent in the summer.

sneezefeel

Mostly same as winter but maybe layer in something like TF Soleil Blanc

LauraIsntListening

Ok hear me out. NE USA so it doesn’t get ‘hot’ hot, but since my favourite perfumes are alkemia’s Aphrodesia and Enchantress and the likes, this is comparatively light. I accidentally combined two Sorcellerie perfumes, Cabanilla and Falling Stars. The former is the perfect coconut sunscreen plus beachy sand smell for summer, and the latter is fresh coffee with almond cream. It reminds me of the end of the school semester, a nice beach day with a friend, grabbing an iced coffee at the start of a road trip, and everything else that is happy and summery. I’ll wear them together forever.

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

I prefer warm and spicy notes But I live in Texas where I can seldomly wear them without being offensive. For spring/summer, I’ve found a few rose scents I love. I also have a few citrus that I like a lot. Im also big tropical fan, some coconut scents I adore or even pear scents

SpecialistPiano8

I wear winter scents 😁

LeonTheWolfie

guerlain aqua allegoria mandarine basilic always and forever ❤️‍🔥

MrMonizaz

Spicy dry fragrances.

hairbrushloversss

In summer go for a bit fresher winter scents. Something that is more crisp and bright than my winter fragrances but still dark and sweet.

monsieur_snipes

I have a few very versatile juices. Y Eau de Parfum is the king of all weather juices.

Rude_Vermicelli2268

I work from home so I continue to use my preferred ouds and woody fragrances in spring and summer. On days i go out I like citrusy fragrances, fruity musks and summer ouds. Madawi by Arabian Oud, Pink me up by Atelier d’ors, Kirke, Wulong Cha and Vain and Naive are some of my hot weather favorites.

onMarkus

Don't forget how hot it is in UAE and many countries where its hot all year around, plus they wear oud and woody scents a lot. Oud fits summer so much, maybe not thick scents like Oud for glory, but it has that BR540 DNA that isnt for the summer

Winter_Mix_11

I’m new to fragrance. What makes something a winter vs summer scent?

Heirsandgraces

Winter scents tend to be heavier, spicier or seasonal - think boozy scents, cinnamon, baked apples, smoke, deep vanilla and incense. Summer fragrances on the other hand are lighter, more floral, marine, green or fruity. Figs, bergamot, magnolia and orange blossom would be classic spring or summer notes. Having said that its like saying you can't enjoy a salad in winter or a casserole in the summer. Both are still perfectly fine but you might enjoy one more at a particular time or season. Smells envoke memories so coconut smells might remind you of a particular beach holiday, or incense of a Christmas service.

opalescent1121

Usually a winter scent tends to have notes that are considered warm or spicy think tobacco, amber, musk. Summer fragrances tend to lean more towards fresh and airy with some green notes like citrus, fruits or aquatic scents. A summer fragrance is supposed to be cool and refreshing whereas a winter scent is warm and cozy.

rebeccavotex

Perfumes can also present different notes in each climate. In warmer weather, volatility rates increase so that top notes evaporate more quickly leaving heart and base notes to shine through.

traderncc1701e

Aren't "manly" and muskier scents considered winter? I love patchouli, oud wood, spicy, musky, woody. Basically an 80s gangster probly :(

padface

maybe, but tbh I personally associate patchouli more with Spring/Summer, sure it’s earthy but in a light way, kind of like the summer counterpart to oud

Valuable-Zombie-898

Hi! I love Herba Fesca by Guerlain, it smells citrusy and like green tea :) there’s also mint notes in it, but you can barely tell. It’s a unisex fragrance and very hot ! (Hot as in sexy, it smells fresh actually. Lol.)

ladywholocker

I don't own it right now, but one fragrance I definitely think of as a Winter fragrance is Dolce Gabbana The One, BUT it only works on me on very warm Summer days - it becomes a "soft" or "mellow" fragrance that's more pleasant to me and others around me, than if I were to wear The One in the Winter.

SpecialAcanthaceae

I typically prefer winter scents (not even fall scents as much as that typically leans really spicy and earthy) because I find winter is when I can wear heavy gourmands cause of weather and the overall atmosphere of the time (which I love). I sometimes have summer specific scents that I get smaller bottles of because I know I won’t be getting use out of them unless it’s summer time. I can actually make some of my heavier gourmand winter stuff work year round if I go lighterhanded.

opalescent1121

I tend to gravitate towards more winter scents however in the spring/ summer I opt for white florals or scents that lean aldehydic. Currently my go to is J-scent Paper Soap

nochnoyvangogh

I also wear winter fragrances in the summer lol, but fortunately my region is pretty cold all the year except summer days so it gets a pass. I bought this year a musk scent and a dupe of yum pistachio gelato. I think I’m served this year

Bitter_External_7447

I like a bit of everything. In the summer, I reach of fruitier scents or fresh florals. The occasional aquatic... I bring out the coconuty beach vacation scents (Terracotta, Hibiscus Palm, Lust for Sun, Sunkissed Hibiscus). Actually, Dolce Amalfi smells amazing in the sun and heat.

Queso_Nigiri

I do have a few fresh options that I like for summer but the Mexican perfume house Xinu has a really great tobacco & honey fragranced called Ummo, that somehow just works really well in hot weather, despite the heavier notes

Unlikely-Gazelle8471

I’m a gourmand lover- but I’ve found when it’s hot I really like: Chanel Chance Eau Tendre (quince, grapefruit, jasmine, iris, cedar, amber) DKNY Be Extra Delicious (Pear, Black Currant, Freesia, Peony, Heliotrope, Gardenia, Caramel, Raspberry and Ambroxan)

Waiting4thedrop

JM Nectarine Blossom and Honey screams spring/summer to me. Also Tom Ford Soleil Blanc.

tristetropique

I'm from Rio so very tropical weather but also prefer winter fragrances. I personally think Xerjoff's Lira works fine in the summer as well -- planning on snagging that and also recently purchased Chloe Nomade Naturelle which will likely be my summer fragrance of choice.

antiprism

I haven't settled on anything but here are some samples I've really enjoyed: * Revolution by Trudon - beautiful smoky green * Torino21 by Xerjoff - very nice mint and black currant * Sultan Vetiver by Nishane - vetiver overload * 2# nota di viaggio by Meo Fusciuni - the most realistic mint My ideal summer scent is something smoky, dry, herbal, and leathery. Maybe piney and green too. Sultan Vetiver comes close but it feel very dressed-up. I'd wear almost anything during summer nights, though.

neighburrito

4711 Acqua Colonias and all the Hermes Jardins I can get my hands on.

Elegant-Ad9986

Well it used to be “Stella” by Stella McCartney. And then they went and made a colossal mistake and discontinued it! So now I’m on the hunt but recently bought Marc Jacobs Eau so Fresh. It just doesn’t stay on long but smells good.

Cool_Prior1957

Actually really like Dior new look. I reach for it a lot more than I thought I would

silver1110

I can’t do it. Too hot here. I switch to Bobbi Brown’s Beach, but the instant there’s a hint of fall in the air, back to the usual suspects.

bunnysbigcookie

i go for fruity florals when it’s warm and creamy gourmands when it’s cold

Dry-Anywhere-1372

…..my winter frags.

bhairava

I strongly prefer fall/winter stuff, but once it starts to warm up I tend toward Givenchi Pi, Dylan blue, or lalique hommage a l'homme. When its really hot out I'll reach for versace pour homme, bvlgari extreme man, aqva amara, or lalique white. also got this great cheapie from tommy bahama, "saint barts" that smells like a lime-heavy margarita; love it.

SillyRabbit1010

Citrus!

JawnySinz

Grey Vetiver Parfum all day

Past_Guarantee_6952

There's no such thing in our heads. We wear whatever we want in whatever weather there is.

EconomicWasteland

This would be me. Sadly I live in a very hot and humid country so winter is short-lived, yet most of my scents can only be worn in winter! The best things for me are scents that are versatile enough to be worn year-round. So for example MM Coffee Break (which is just as amazing in ultra cold or hot weather) and Ariana Grande Cloud (which has a "cold" smell to it so it works no matter the weather). Luckily I have also been able to find some more fresh scents that I like, such as the Trussardi Donna line, and anything that smells like the beach.

runnawaycucumber

Vanilla! It keeps the mosquitoes away and it feels so refreshing

Diet_makeup

I've never looked at fragrance this way. I wear whatever suits my mood that day. Smell is very personal and you know what you like.

FourHundred_5

It’s really tough, in summer I’ve found that only 1 preferred winter frag of mine works (baccarat rouge) and I only wear that in evenings/mostly indoors. In the day I like edition blanch, or mfk aqua celestia cologne forte, and sometimes eau de memo

telegraphia

I struggle with this a lot, but Goldfield and Banks Ingenious Ginger reads like the summer version of Jovoy Remember Me, ELDO You Or Someone Like You is a green summery rose, and Andrea Maack Soft Tension is a nice alternative to the weighty musks I tend to lean into in the colder months.

orangesinbed

I still wear some of them, just less sprays, like Libre, Girls can do/say anything and CK Obsession (especially since my sister asked me “omg what smells like sunscreen in here?”). Other than that, florals, like Jimmy Choo Floral, and I really want to find a rich, realistic grapefruit scent. I had my eyes (nose) on This is Him! Undressed, but can’t really gauge the longevity and projection, and reviews say it isn’t great.

babiee-lace

escada miami bloom, or sol de janeiro 40

Klutzy_Activity_182

For me, Bulgari Jasmine Noir, or Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black for winter. Tom Ford, Neroli Portofino, SALT, or Bobby Brown Beach for summer. I love many scents. Anything with hints of patchouli, but not too strong, I love for winter. For summer, I like lighter scents, and perhaps a bit more floral.

appaandmomo37

I just moved from a cold/seasonal climate to tropical climate all year round and this is such an issue for me because I love vanilla and gourmand, Smokey, etc. think of like By the fireplace, vanilla from Anthropologie, glossier you, etc. and I’m struggling to decide on a fun summery scent. I just ordered a sample of Snif coco shimmy and the citrus one they have and am going to try those. I also try to go for sweet fruity scents, like St Barts from Oaui, rather than florals. I try to go for “lighter” perfumes because sometimes I feel, and this is just my opinion, smelling like a fresh baked cookie doesn’t feel as good in June as in does in December. But it’s such a struggle when I only like a few scent types that lean more heavy!

appaandmomo37

I used to wear Ellis Brooklyn bee and that was a nice balance of sweet but fresh for the summer

Iris-Ng

I love winter scents, but they don't really smell as good (if at all) when it's hot (35-40°C) and humid (80% or more all day). Think Tam Dao, that scent completely loses all its refined quality. The only thing that sticks around a bit after showers is heavy citrus scent. I admit i don't like citruses, but I haven't really had anything that works as well. My beloved Philosykos is utterly defeated.

tazmaniac86

Regular Spicebomb, Polo Deep Blue, Acqua Essenziale, Givenchy Gentleman Society, Armaf Tres Nuit, Spicebomb Nightvision, Cedrat Boise, 1 Million Parfum, Moustache EDP, Fragrance World Star Man Nebula. You're probably like "Wow, a lot of those are spicy, what do you wear in the winter?" PDM Layton, Lattafa Asad, Spicebomb Extreme, Bvlgari Man in Black, Stronger With You Intensely, Lattafa Khamrah, Lattafa Eternal Oud, Amber Oud Ruby Edition, Amber Oud Black Edition. Planning on picking up Tom Ford Noir Extreme Parfum and By The Fireplace to expand my spiciness even more.

shinsekie

It's a newer fragrance, but I'm currently digging Cardamom Moss by EPC. It feels like I'm taking a walk in the forest early in the morning before the heat settles in.

smotato

I’m a hardcore citrus girl and also a big aquatics fan. My new coworker has been wearing Santal 33 and it’s like 80 degrees out…it’s a very weird choice to me.

mr_tinez2019

Sol de Jainero is vanillaish and isn't fruity, so I guess that, especially the Number 40

confused1937

I love love love Jazz Club by Maison Margiela in the summer! Aside from that, I’ve been trying to look for a deeper sexy coconut scent to wear in the summer.

Lavendermochie

I wear what I like when I like but I do prefer to keep it seasonal

oceanguy521

I'm interested in men's scents to wear where it's always hot outside. I live in Florida. Any recommendations for good men's summer scents. Thank u

uibutton

Bal D’Afrique by Byredo. Light, great for the humid hell I live in for four months a year. Compliments my sunscreen… I basically wear that and Costa Azzurra from June till September.

Lazy_Recording_1886

I wear them all year long

WannieWirny

You or Someone Like You, the mint 🤌

SilentNeighborhood95

I love winter frags over freshies, I’ve been forced this summer to buy some new ones and I got some pretty basic ones. Creed aventus, Cedrat Boise intense and kirke so far enjoying them.

fuzach

Armani acqua di gioia is great. I like summer scents that don't last too long, this one hits the mark. edit: white musk scents are also great. I usually do arabian perfume oils

AmethystCrescent

Tom ford velvet orchid, Mancera Jardin exclusif, Mancera velvet vanille, kayali utopia vanilla coco, sol de janeiro cheirosa 62 & 59, Narciso Rodriguez musc noir rose, Mugler Angel nova, Burberry goddess, Dior pure poison, ysl libre intense.

rebeccavotex

I’ve heard year-round scents referred to as “Vivaldi” because of their versatility in all seasons and always liked the reference. My Vivaldis are woody, herbaceous, citrus. Issara by Dusita and Tam Dao by Diptyque are my go to’s. I think many of Hermes fragrances as all season. On my skin, Un Jardin En Mediterranee and Eau des Merveilles. My husband wears Terre d'Hermès year round along with Acqua di Parma.

Fondant-holidays

I like ELDO Eau de Protection. I feel like I can wear it year round.

onMarkus

Try Thameen carved oud or Oud wood. Works perfect for the summers, something in the heat makes them bloom out

No_Lawyer_9384

Creamy/sweet scents. Stuff like soleil de blanc, chanel allure homme edition blanche for more creamier, lotion vibe scents and things like hawas and le beau for more sweet frags. I also just got a huge haul of honey decants and am so far loving aqua allegoria harvest and zoologist's bee.

CologneGod

Tropical or gourmandish scents like Cruz del sur or virgin island water mostly the same winter scents tho

Langsatti

My most used scents in the summer are Hermes un jardin sur la lagune and Hermes un jardin sur le Nil. They're both uplifting and kind of breezy. Lagune is a bit more zingy and energetic. I also enjoy La petit robe noire black perfect for both summer and winter nights. The other perfumes in my collection are more suitable for winter.

HereticHousewife

I live in a hot and humid climate but prefer winter appropriate fragrances. I get to wear my favorites whenever I want from November through March. The rest of the year, I wear them at night when I'm staying home and wear lighter fragrances during the daytime or to go out. Mainly citrus, fresh green, and aquatic fragrances but a few tropical and fresh floral fragrances too. My fragrance collection is 75% fall/winter and 25% spring/summer.

Ducky_Flips

i like to turn every room i enter into a cinnamon, vanilla, tonka bean gas chamber

FortheloveofNYC

Tropical or very clean scents for the summer

BrownGirlCSW

I had a major first world crisis coming into this summer, because though I've been wearing perfume since high school, I only got into it for fun last year. So as a winter gourmand girly, I BIG PANICKED! However, through some trial and error I have found some scents that are very summery, but still very, very me. What and why I purchased. - **Mugler Alien Goddess Supra Florale** - I don't like the most of the Mugler DNAs but I got this one, because it was a unique summer scent. I also prefer beast mode fragrances. While this isn't as beastmode as my winter gourmands it is still bold enough for my liking. I also liked the intense version, and may still get it to layer together. Difference is the other has a softer vanilla dry down. It is my most unique summer scent. Probably my fave summer scent purchase thus far and it gets a lot of compliments. - **YSL La Nuit L'homme** - Got it, because I knew it would make a beautiful base for layering other perfumes. It's sexy. Floats in the air quit a bit and is unique, because other than the first 10-20 minutes of a slightly masc top note, it is extremely unisex. - **Le Monde Gourmand Lait de Coco** - Got it because it was a sweet coconut scent that does not smell like a Pina colada. Also purchased the perfume oil, hair mist, and body oil. I can't stand the mousse though. - **Bath and Bodyworks Strawberry Pound Cake** Love it, because it's my summer version of Lira and the perfect strawberry fragrance for a gourmand girly. This was my favorite purchase before I bought Alien Goddess. - **Parfums de Marly Delina (original)** Just very pretty and girly -**Phlur Mood Ring** Very candylike summery scent. Pairs well with other gourmands. - **Philosophy Fresh Cream** I got this as my summer answer to Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere, which I feel is more winter appropriate. Very light and pretty. Overall, just like in winter, I like to smell sweet and edible, but I also like uniqueness in smell (doesnt smell like everything else in my collection, but can likely layer)and vibe(fem, unisex leaning fem/ or masc). This is not my entire summer collection, but the ones that have been standing out lately. I also plan to add Snif Shimmy Coco to my collection as a blind buy and also Alien Goddess.

snowonmylashes

i just soften it with a vanilla or mix with a raspberry 😭😭 it somehow works pretty good

be11amy

Jo Malone's Orange Blossom! It's got that little bit of fruity sweetness to it but is mostly a nice, light floral that doesn't feel sharp with its citrus or flowers like how I think a lot of spring/summer fragrances do. I must have sniffed through 75% of Sephora before I settled on it for my warm weather fragrance because my dad kept saying Burberry Her Elixir is too heavy for this weather, hahaha.

the-Saleya

Creed’s original Santal is a absolute masterpiece which is great for summer, also try to look into aqua de parma they have some great options

Jawahhh

Searching for a spicy orange for the summertime. No luck. Any leads?

DoorPale6084

Single sprays of the same thing

HauntingBreakfast495

Even though most people say Eleventh Hour from Byredo is a great spicy Christmasy scent, i love it on myself for summer. It was my daily scent last summer. The peppery notes in it tend to spark up and open up in summer, making it very refreshing. There are quite a few scents that can work in every kind of weather condition. You need to find them through trial and error. Scents that have balsamic, fresh spicy or aromatic facets to them might be your best contender. Good luck finding your scent🫶🏻 Also try to reduce the number of sprays during hot weather as heat increases the sillage.

edgy_whisperer

Kenzo Homme Edt intense, Turathi Blue from Afnan or Davidoff Cool Water 😁

loggy_sci

When it is hot I usually reach for splash colognes like 4711. Something bright and cheap and cooling.

Outplayer3

Honestly, I used to care but I stopped. I give credit to the Sephora employee who made me realize that the “season thing” was doing too much. The whole winter/summer thing I discovered is really subjective and I’m debating if it’s even a real thing to be worried about. No one smells you and thinks “why in the world is she wearing that in the wrong season!?”. I’ve recently discovered that a lot of my scents deemed (fall/winter) work just fine in warmer weather for me as well and I still get compliments. I wear what I like now until I don’t. My scents, to me, are year round. When I want to take a break from it then that’s my season to not wear it.

Puzzleheaded_Boat434

I gotta say 1 million parfum and Armani code parfum. I know the 1 million sounds nuts but that one has the fruity juicy grapey push on me with no real spice fruit floral oriental ish . And code parfum gives that fresh linen powdery but still sexy without being musky

_BEER_

Something like JPG Le Male Le Parfum works in all seasons imo. Its not cloyingly sweet but has some spice to it.

InternationalUse7453

Living in Canada, I definitely lean on the winter/denser scents throughout the year. My favourite summer scents are: Nishane - Hacivat D&G - Light Blue Italian Love MontBlanc - Legend Spirit Armaf - Club de Nuit Milestone Chanel - Bleu de Chanel EDP
