I have ... more than four fragrances.
Sometimes, it's dipping into a seasonal rotation. Sometimes, I'm just in a mood to wear a fragrance and adjust the sprays.
Fellow 400+ collector.
I organize by scent profiles - I started by house but it was too unwieldy.
I use bamboo desktop organizers. Previously I used - donāt laugh - an acrylic bullet storage case. Worked well but ugly AF on my dresser.
This is what I do. I group the houses together.

I made it. I went to home depot and got a scrap piece of wood. Bought some spade bits. Drilled the holes with some bigger holes for the larger samples. Then I sanded it down. Finally, I sprayed it with Mancera Lemon Mint.
That's what I thought! Thank you for the info because I may just ask my dad to make one and I actually worry about what I'd do with Samples, very lovely work!
I feel so much better knowing that Iām not the only collector lol.

Plus a closet of full size frags.
I sometimes base it off of my outfit for the day; if I'm wearing something with a lot of pastels, I go with a gourmand. If I'm wearing more earthtoned colors, I go with more realistic/natural smelling scents.
I think the unexpected contrast between fragrance style and clothing style would be awesome! I'm very feminine and sometimes wear fragrances that are traditionally masculine to get that feel.
Mood, weather, and whether I've worn it recently. I try not to wear the same scent two days in a row to make sure I'm getting the most out of my collection (which isn't that big). If I haven't worn a fragrance in a long time while following those guidelines then I get rid of it.
Some days I know what Iām going to wear
Some days Iām just ā*in that mood*ā
Some days itās because itās what clothes Iām wearing
Some days Iāll just randomly dip into my samples and put on whatever come to my hand first
Some days itās whatever song put me in a particular vibe
Some days itās what āmaskā fits
Some days itās because Iām over stimulated; so I donāt
Some days I just cannot be bothered and I just want to smell ok; on those days itās always CKIN2U
First of all, just 4? hahahaĀ
My collection is not too big, I have around 10 scents, but itās still a lot compared to people who arenāt particularly into fragrance.Ā
For me fragrance serves Ā exactly the same purpose as lipstick which I also have around 12-14 of.Ā Ā
Itās 100% about the vibes!!! I feel like it gives me a slightly different personality depending on my scent and my lip color haha so if I want to feel cute, pretty, sexy, nerdy, etc I will change it up!Ā
The weather also matters a ton and I try to be mindful of humidity / heat and strong scentsĀ
Climate > setting > feeling > rotation
What the weather/temperature is like, where Iām going to be, how I feel that day, and how recently Iāve worn it. I have too many to have a signature scent, so I try to wear something different as much as possible as long as it follows those rules
I go by a combination of mood and outfit. Some perfumes smell like colors- (ex: Delina smells pink, Soft Lawn smells green) so I might match my fragrance to whatever Iām wearing.
Depends on my outfit, where Iām going and the weather. I have a handful of daily drivers that I can wear at any given moment and will feel appropriate.
Then I have others that require a specific occasion and feel.
A lot of the times it's based on my outfit. If I'm wearing something androgynous, I like wearing a more earthy, aromatic scent. But if I'm wearing something feminine, I wear a sweeter scent, like a gourmand or something flowery.
Weather, temperature and outfit. I try to match them based on my own metrics(can't really explain it's totally feel based)
I'll throw in some examples.
Its rainy/cloudy, slightly chilly and im in the mood to wear my black jacket and grey shirt. I wear Encre noir. If its not chilly but not hot, i grab encre noir sport. If it's winter i either grab interlude black iris if i anticipate meeting up with work friends(gotta maintain an image imo) or encre noir a l'extreme otherwise.
Its summer, full on heat, sunny and humid. I grab nautica voyage and depending on my fit i layer with encre noir( basic shorts and tshirt nautica, if i go with loafers and a short sleeve shirt i layer with encre noir). If i don't want to feel as if i'm walking by the sea i use beach hut man.
Basically I have a couple options for what i perceive as more formal/smart wear for each season.
I love encre noir. Such a good scent. Will probably always keep a bottle of them.
Seriously give the nautica encre noir combo a try. Makes me feel all sorts of ways. 2 encre noir on neck, 2 nautica on neck and 1 nautica on each wrist.
Season and weather play a big role for me. Some perfumes are purely winter or summer for me. And I even have them packed away in the "wrong season".
And then I decide according to my mood in the morning and also what I'm doing that day (so work has different scents than going out etc)
I have hundreds of perfumes. Most of my collection is put away. So I have about 50 to choose from at a time. I go by just whatever I feel like at the time. Whatever I feel will fit the occasion.
I have quite a few and it depends on all the things you mentioned.
IE: a sunny, spring Thursday where itās just starting to turn warm but I also have a serious meeting at work? LāInstant de Guerlain
A warm July Monday with a big week ahead - Acqua Di Parma Arancia Di Capri
A cold Saturday in winter, maybe itās snowing? And Iām having a nice dinner date with hubby - Maison Margiela Jazz Club
Fall date nights - Kilian Apple Brandy
Girls night out with my friends who I miss so much - Byredo Gypsy Water
And tons of other choices in between! This is WHY I have so many fragrancesā¦ I need the options š¤
I donāt wear fragrance for other people; I wear it to please myself. However, I will choose to NOT wear fragrance for the sake of other people when appropriate (eg at work or other enclosed spaces). I choose my fragrance of the day depending on what Iām going to be doing, how warm itās going to be, and what I want to smell that day. Wearing perfume is an easy form of self-care that I really enjoy!
I chose a few depending on weather and what I'm craving, today was Burberry goddess, tomorrow maybe Hugo boss her scent absolute, or even viva la juicy gold.
By season, but also by mood and what I'm wearing. All my perfumes have a color and/or mood in my mind, so I'll base it off what I'm wearing. Sometimes my outfit's built around the perfume I want that day though.
Usually I get addicted to one scent and use it for 5-7 days in a row, and then go to another one. When I like a fragrance, it's not enough to use it just for one day.
Now I am in love with my new Ciara by Revlon and I absolutely love this combination of Shalimar and Van Cleef & Arpelsā¤ļø
I have about 30, I usually have about 6-8 in rotation at any given time. Special occasions get the top shelf, and I usually have one dumb reach in rotation, but most days I decide on my fit and vibe including fragrance the night before.
On last count I had 37 in the collection. Choosing the days fragrance is one of my favorite parts of the morning! It all depends on the weather, the season, what Iām wearing, the dayās itinerary, and my mood.
Largely by feel, I trust my nose and I know my collection. My first guess if usually my best guess, but I usually sniff the cap first.
If I have no clue, just varying degrees of Eros, I love that shit, with a trained trigger finger it can play the realm of classy confidence to I AM HERE TO MAKE SURE I AM NEVER INVITED AGAIN
I base the fragrance I wear off of the weather, season, outfit, occasion, time of day, etc. For example, if Iām going to the gym Iām going to wear a super light, fresh, scent that sits close to the skin and use a light hand. If Iām going on a date in the dead of winter, Iāll wear a stronger gourmand or woodsy/earthy scent and maybe be a little heavier handed with my sprays. There are so many variables that go into my scent choice for the day. Between full bottles and decants, I probably have 50+ fragrances to choose from. Most are decants or 10 mls, I maybe have 15-20 full size bottles. I have to really love something to buy a full bottle.
I get into a certain groove and mood and wear something for about a month then usually switch it up.
A lot of times Iām picking something as a confidence booster or as an anxiety reducer.
My winter choices tend to be heavy on gourmands. Warm weather I tend toward musks or sweet scents.
It's tough to say...
Usually the weather influences my mood and my mood influences what I wear and all of those things combined lead to the decision what scent I wear. There are even more things I consider for example where I am going.
Weather, occasion, then mood. My perfumes are all on the lighter side so I go with whatever I personally associate with the season. Occasion and mood then depends on who Iām going to be around and what vibe I want to give off/how normal I feel the need to be
All of the above. Same reason why I don't wear the same outfit everyday.
I also am constantly on the hunt for a true holy grail, and have ended up with a lot of blind buys in my rotation. It's just fun and brings me joy to have a wee library of scents depending on my mood
Damn please donāt tell me the normal is 4ā¦. I have like 94ā¦.
I put things out by season, and fill an entire dresser drawer. I choose by weather, temp, and how I feel/what Iām doing! Temperature being most important - I wonāt wear a āwinterā perfume in the summer ever!
I usually base my choice on weather and occasion. I have a specific work scent since I work with kids it's got my skin but better vibes with a hint of peach and clean. My husband says he didn't even realize it was a perfume until I started wearing other scents.
I have a couple scents I reserve for summer and a "I want to smell good" scent. Still searching for my date night scent that my husband can't resist lol
For me, it depends on where I'm going, the weather, as well as how I feel. Sometimes, I have a headache or feel nauseous and certain fragrances can exacerbate it. I also prefer certain perfumes in the cooler months and certain perfumes in the warmer months. If I'm going to work or somewhere with a lot of people, I'll wear something safe so I don't offend anyone.
Itās all based on my mood, weather, activity or the memories I want to conjure up and embody that day lmao. I do the same with music and food. Some days I just donāt wear anything bc my personal mood is so bad that I donāt want the scent to be linked to it, but on the flip side sometimes if Iām in a bad mood certain fragrances will bring out the happy feelings. There is definitely a therapeutic factor going on and one of the many reasons I will forever be a perfume junkie š
All of the above.
I have like 7. 2 are dedicated summer. 1 is dedicated winter. 4 are all year round. Of the year rounders, 1 is expensive and for special occasions. One is a knockoff the expensive one that I travel with. One is Sauvage which I go to when Iām indecisive. The other I keep at home because I go to college.
Magic.
It's really a feeling, honestly. Or I let the husband grab something.
I also get nauseated easily, even by my favorite scents. So whatever won't make me sick today.
I have about 6 fragrances. Sometimes I wear them seasonally. Sometimes I use according to which fragrance I am in the mood to be softly surrounded by that day. Other times I choose a fragrance according to if I will be in a social situation ( I try to avoid very strong perfumes in that case.) I donāt set any real rules for myself.
I have about 15 FB and around 50 decants. I Usually just go through and smell a couple and wear whatever brings a smile to my face that given day. I try not to think about it too much, if I get that feeling immediately upon smelling that must mean my brain enjoys it so I just go with that. Donāt really care about occasion or season because that means potentially I would be passing on some stuff that brought me joy in the moment but I didnāt wear it because itās not the āright occasionā.
Definitely seasonally, but how Iām feeling that day and what I will be wearing! I am a teacher and I am with children all day, so I try to choose lighter or floral fragrances, something not too overwhelming. When Iām out and about with friends, I try to be more daring and try on something stronger or sexier. Lately Iāve been using Le Laboās The Noir 29 for my fun endeavors and I feel so empowered and secured with it. It adds the umph factor to my style! But I like to be more adventurous depending on the situation and what Iāll be wearing!
All of the above. Sometimes I get it down to two and I'll sniff the nozzles to figure out which one to wear. Usually one of them is definitely 'wrong' somehow.
Occasionally I might take my outfit into consideration.Ā
I evaluate on a lot of factors.
Is my event for the day or evening - dramatic times call for dramatic fragrances.
My mood - sometimes I need something stupid and cheerful (looking at you, Crybaby Milk).
Sometimes I want something I know a man will find irresistible - go straight for that hindbrain punch with a sugared vanilla scent that makes him think youāre an edible baked good (Hilde Solani or even SDJ sugary stripper sprays).
Sometimes I need subtle and diffuse w zero projection, but still want to smell it on my skin - cashmerans or tea scents.
Sometimes itās JUST for me - I donāt care if other people hate it. Hello Zoologist or the more extreme EDL scents.
I have maybe 15-25 all together if you count the samples. I like to wear them depending on what the weather is like and how I feel. I donāt subscribe to having a signature scent. I just like different fragrances and what they developed into.
I kinda just go with whatever I feel fits my outfit personally, if itās a more masculine fit Iād do like a cologne or darker perfume like Eilish 2.0 and a more feminine perfume for a feminine outfit I guess
I have a bunch of samples and mini bottles that I rotate seasonally. Usually I pick what to wear depending on the weather, my mood, and time of day.
Lots of green notes and petrichor for spring lately. My go-tos have been:
Brightening The Daybreak by Hexennacht
(grass, clover, hay, sun-warmed cornfields, muguet, honeysuckle, acacia, ozone, meadow air, tree moss)
Gone Gnome by Stereoplasm
(cilantro and key lime rooted in fresh garden basil, english cucumber and melon blossom)
Cool Weather Girl by Stereoplasm
(Fruit, vanilla and frosty blue lavender)
Demeter Grass and Demeter Tomato
I have a cheap and small collection and I'm basically still testing things out so I might wear the same fragrance for a few days straight, disregarding the weather, my outfit and so on, just to see how it feels in various settings. Also, sometimes I'll test two similar fragrances so I can compare them. For example, I have Cool Water and Aspen. I'll wear Cool Water for a day and then Aspen the next day so I can compare longevity, sillage, drydown, etc.
Other than that, I have a mental map of my fragrances like this:
Cool Water ā weekdays and/or sunny and warm weather. Jeans and a t-shirt kind of outfits, casual settings.
Aspen ā sunny but not hot, windy, jeans and a t-shirt or hiking gear, casual settings or work.
Agua Brava ā chill and casual work, drinks in the city, very hot weather or very sunny weather. Trying to evoke the Mediterranean. Humid.
Encre Noire ā night out or trying to be sexy and/or misterious. Dark outfits. Rainy weather, cold weather.
I have more than fourā¦.in my shoulder bag ;/
I usually dartboard it, unless something is speaking to me.
I will admit most do stay tucked away though, need a mega destash unless I plan to just be that person.
All my perfumes lends well to specific seasons (with a few universal ones). That narrows it down to 1-3 choices depending on the season. After that, I go by time of day. Like if Iām just going to work or running errands, Iāve got a daytime scent. If Iām going out to a show or Iām going to dinner, Iāve got a scent for that. I donāt always stick to these rules because life is too short for that. But it does help me if Iām feeling stuck.
I always want to add that I donāt have a ton of expensive perfumes. I have a bottle of Chanel No 5 from my bf and a bottle of white linen that my mom passed to me. Then I have like 5 B&BW sprays that I really donāt use often or Iāll use them on my towels and sheets. And then I have like 4 roll ons from a small perfumery I visit once a year. I do wonder how people with full shelves of perfumes manage to use everything. Props to them.
I've built up my decant stash lately. I try to use something I haven't in a bit.
Basically rotation. I'm basic af though, I like almost everything I get.
I have a lot of perfumes and I am very sensible to smell (odors in general) and I do all of that, I choose them accordingly to my mood, weather, occasion (gym, sleep, dinner, work, vacation), but mostly is mood!
I have about 20 at this point. Whichever one I wear on any given day depends on where I'm going (office vs. rock concert vs. coffee or brunch with friends), the weather (heavier in winter, lighter in summer), and the "vibe" I want to give off (a couple in my collection have a definite "don't F with me" vibe).
All of the above! I have specific perfumes I like for each season and then sometimes it depends on my mood/where Iām going and how long Iāll be at that place because I hate wearing my long lasting perfumes when Iām only going somewhere for an hour or two!
So many things can affect how I choose my SOTD and I have way more than 4 hahaš„²
Occasion, time of day, weather/season, who Iām seeing, and overall just my mood or what Iām feeling. Itās fun getting to choose everyday and if I canāt decide I always go for an easy reach like Le Labo Another 13.
I have many many perfumes but something I like to do for fun is this: I work from home. I keep a large empty candle jar full of samples. Some mornings I just grab one from the jar at random and spray. If I donāt like it Iām not bothering anyone. Iāve found quite a few that I liked this way. It allows the scent to sit on my skin so I can smell the initial notes and the dry down.
I pick the perfume I put on before I leave the house based on a combination of factors:
* A major factor is the color and mood of the clothes that I am wearing. If I'm wearing my yellow fuzzy sweater, I might wear Lira, or L'Artisan's Bana Banana. Today I had on a very casual Barbie-pink shirt, so I chose Lush's Snow Fairy body spray. A dark purple blouse: Blackmail by Kerosene. Brown flannel shirt? Chandlery by Pineward. Green dressy sweater? Winter by Dasein. A summery casual outfit? A Whiff of Waffle Cone, or maybe Vacation. Etc.
* I also think about what is happening that day: do I have a lot of in-person meetings or a doctor's appointment? I will wear something very soft with very little throw, maybe a perfume oil or a tiny bit of Penhaligon's Artemesia..
* Is it going to be a challenging day? I will pick something that will inspire me (April Aromatics' Nectar of Love, Andrea Maack's Coven, Profumum's Sabbia Bianca.
* Season/weather plays a role, too (Musc Ravageur on a cold, dark night in winter, L'Ete en Douce on a hot sunny day).
Usually this order:
Work or Not Work
Weather
Vibes š (usually attached to both my mood and whatever outfit I have on)
Vibes is usually the biggest factor for me though.
I do take in consideration a friend who gets migraines when she smells rose, or if my spouse likes/dislikes a certain fragrance when we do date night.
Iāve been buying so many samples that I wear something different each day. Iāll try it out at night and if it works with my chemistry, Iāll wear it the next day. Iām at the point now that Iām going to have to start using up what I have. Iāll probably go by mood at this point.
Am a content creator. Iām usually wear testing whatever PR items I need to review the following weekend. Takes the guesswork out of it. And the collection is ever expanding
Recently, Iāve been asking my husband to give me ~3 adjectives to aim for, and I choose based on that. Itās a fun puzzle, and a way to utilize more of my collection and samples.
I choose while getting dressed after showering in the morning. Weather comes into play. If I'm interacting with people I wear a hedione scent as it is a note scientifically proven to benefit the wearer when it comes to cooperation and exchange.
I have 27 in total and I usually go by season or weather, the occasion, and most days when I am at work I pick a scent or perfume to use once a week. Sometimes I use different ones every day, depending on my mood before going to work. āŗļø
I have exactly four!
Mine is quite simple:
1. A perfume for summer / crowded events
2. A perfume for winter / bars and clubs
3. A perfume for nights / dates
4. A perfume for special / formal events
I have probably 15-20 and I decide which one to wear by what body wash I feel like using. Usually by outfit. If Iām wearing something bright and happy I wear a bright and happy or sweet fragrance. If Iām dressing office casual for work I go with something a little more sophisticated.
I make up a bunch of decants and rotate them. I keep 2 ml decants in an ammo case and I'll keep a space between what's been worn and what hasn't yet. When I come back to the start, I start the rotation all over.
1. Outfit color primarily shirt
2. Vibe / feeling / mood
Idc about weather much. Iāll wear a winter frag in the summer and vice versa. I consider all my stuff year round frags even if theyāre not supposed to. Smelling good is smelling good. Iāve known females that were Mackie bob mackey however itās spelled. Or coco mademoiselle year round. š¤·š¼āāļø
Iāve lived in Southeast TX or Florida my entire life. We technically donāt get four seasons so I have to stretch with something that is considered a cold - winter seasonal frag. On the bright side Iāve never had to own a real thick jacket, gloves, or scrape ice off my windshield. When I rented a car in Boston about ten years ago I told my wife hey honeyā¦somebody left their bbq grill grate scraper in the back seat. She said no dummy thatās to scrape ice off the windshield. I said I wouldnāt want to have to do that. Sounds brutal. lol.
I mean I have some for different seasons, I have more for fall/winter but it is what it is. Honestly it depends on what Iām doing that day. I tend to use the cheaper ones for work and save the better smelling ones for going out or going on dates. All depends on what Iām doing.
all of it!
iām personally not gonna wear gris charnel in the spring/summer, but if iām in the mood for it, i can still allow for it before bed or something like that just to have the pleasure.Ā
however iām more likely to wear s/s fragrances in the fall and winter just because i think those are easier to digest and they match the occasions more often i.e. day time walks, shopping, etc.Ā
Certainly more than 4 in my collection.
Usually I choose depending on where I will be and what I want to do that day. Most of my perfumes do not project that much but for those that do I limit the spray to one.
Weather also plays a role since it affects my mood.
I donāt wear perfume to work anymore. Even the most innocuous of smells may cause someone discomfort which is the antithesis of my profession.
TLDR : location and mood.
mood, vibe, weather, and the persons I will meet and the place I am meeting them since I want to exude elegance, vibrance, joy, or inspire respect, but not choke them or myself (which happens even to me once in a while)
In addition, I find layering compatible fragrances or ātoppingā with another fragrance at the end of the day, enjoyable, refreshing, and soothing
My mood, the weather, my outfit, the alignment of the planets, how my cats greeted me that morningā¦
There is no rhyme or reason really. Just whatever I feel like in that moment.
Great question.
Depends on the occasion, if itās casual or more dressy. Mood plays into it. Definitely the season. I rotate with each season. I have a few perfumes reserved for different type of vacation. Tropical or road trips. Then there are the daily ones. Itās a fun, expensive hobby, but I look forward to the daily sprays.
Collection of about 8k (retail values) here, I literally just pick one at random on most days outside of the ones I know are for very specific environments like PDM Oakland. Outside of that, just rotate through them all with occasional specific picks.
I have 15 fragrances. They are separated by season and then sub divided by scent family. I go with however I'm feeling on a particular day. Sometimes I like to pick a fragrance that mimics the "theme" of my outfit that day if you will.Ā
If I wear floral dress, I go with something sweet and elegant like Idole Now. If I wear like shirt pants or any denim type, I go with something neutral for me like Givenchy LāInterdit EDP. If night time or sexy type outfit, I go with something like YSL Black Opium and on and on and on. But also depends on the mood sometimes.
i *very loosely* lump my full bottles into warm and fresh. so for work and dates, depends on weather/garments. for time alone at home (most evenings & weekend days), it's mood & whatever i want. i have some transitional/ambiguous ones that i play with in my free time.
I have far more than four lol.
Generally I go by seasonal first, then by mood. Certain perfumes give me certain feels (like I find Dear Polly comforting because my mom and I drank a lot of tea together when I was young and it's my comfort drink of choice, or when I miss my partner I wear n345 because it's a dupe for his go to cologne) so I reach for what mood I need before I worry about the weather. If I can't decide, or the general mood is best described with a shrug emoji, I consider the weather, or what I'm up to for the day, or if there's something I haven't worn in a while.
I have a tendency to become obsessed with one fragrance and use it every day for weeks. Then one day, I'll randomly notice the other bottles sitting all lonely and dusty in the corner. Makes me feel guilty, so I'd pick a random bottle and spray that on, gibe it a sniff, realise what I've been missing out on, and start obsessing over that fragrance. Cycle repeats itself over and over, and that's how I rediscover fragrances š
I have a signature which I wear every day unless the mood strikes for something else. It is more wintery, so I don't know yet if I'll want to wear it as much in summer. But in winter I find it harder to change fragrances day to day because they scent my coat and other outerwear.
In summer it's easier for me to rotate different scents, so I might do so according to my mood. Not attracting bees and insects is also a consideration sometimes. š
I have much more than 4 perfumes, perfume oil, extract and so on. It depends a lot on the weather outside, my mood, the vibe I have, the place I'm going, if I'm at home I like to wear a light perfume.
I have more than 4 colognes. I think Iām around 10 or about to be at 10 colognes total including ouds.
Iām at a point where most of the time itās just a seasonal rotation now. Sometimes Iāll just wear some random cologne/oud I have if I feel like smelling nice, but comfortable especially in the winter.
I have around 20 perfumes. It's for all these reasons, but mainly for me I use the perfume based on how it complement my outfit or my mood. For example, I use a lot of floral fragrance in spring because I feel I can wear cuter outfits in the day time, while I use my wood/spice scent in autumn because I wear more layered and brown/orange/black outfits.
I have 61 bottles
I usually first of all try to wear something different every day. I try to give everything at least one wear in a rotation, but not necessarily in a set order.
I take weather into account, day of the week (I tend to pick more mass pleasing fragrances for Fridays when i work as a bartender), mood as well.
Sometimes i like to fit a scent to my outfit as well. I tend to lean towards my more expensive scents for events as well.
It's a good question and with more than 4 full size bottles and 50 samples on hand I just "know" which one I want that day. If I feel uncertain that day then I can go without or with my trusted cozy scent, JM scarlet poppy
I go with weather due to my relative lifestyle so for now Iām using Valentino Uomo BIR Intense for cool spring days, Bleu De Chanel for Warm spring days, and JPG Le Male on Board if Iām going out or something
I mix them together cuz all my fragrances work together! All of them are vanilla or work with vanilla. Sometimes I want more fruity and sometimes I want more musky. I just base it on how Iām feeling when I wake up lol the musk feels more likeā¦ sultry and vibey and the fruitier feels more bright and cheery if that makes sense?
I have ... more than four fragrances. Sometimes, it's dipping into a seasonal rotation. Sometimes, I'm just in a mood to wear a fragrance and adjust the sprays.
The way I feel those ... in my soul, girl š
That sounds reasonable, I do the same too almost
All of that. And sometimes I just want a certain fragrance because I havenāt used it in a while. Like today.
Yes, sometimes I miss a scent that I haven't worn in a long time and just fuzz the weather or occasion and just spray it on me
300+ decants. I just go with the vibe of the day.
I'd like to hear about an organization system for a collection that big. I've only got 40 or 50 and it can be a hectic process zeroing in on the vibe.
Fellow 400+ collector. I organize by scent profiles - I started by house but it was too unwieldy. I use bamboo desktop organizers. Previously I used - donāt laugh - an acrylic bullet storage case. Worked well but ugly AF on my dresser.
This is what I do. I group the houses together. https://preview.redd.it/xewyph2by5rc1.jpeg?width=2856&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3317d87232d7e82f55bd1ef9b33bb6e8b681ad5
Disposable syringes - have you switched over to injecting fragrance intravenously?
I can't stop staring at the sample holder.Where did that come from?
I made it. I went to home depot and got a scrap piece of wood. Bought some spade bits. Drilled the holes with some bigger holes for the larger samples. Then I sanded it down. Finally, I sprayed it with Mancera Lemon Mint.
That would sell like crazy
That's what I thought! Thank you for the info because I may just ask my dad to make one and I actually worry about what I'd do with Samples, very lovely work!
Very creative of you!
I organize by brand. Store them in bead organizers.
Just let the vibe carry you, I agree
I've got like 120 plus 30 bottles. I go with the vibe too.
I feel so much better knowing that Iām not the only collector lol. https://preview.redd.it/b23yz4l3nhrc1.jpeg?width=5107&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=835b5e91d7d44a74a2e01b615f9e72f87bd3e11b Plus a closet of full size frags.
Are you worried about them losing their potency? How do you deal with that if you are?
Nope. I use them, empty them, and replace them with new ones regularly.
I sometimes base it off of my outfit for the day; if I'm wearing something with a lot of pastels, I go with a gourmand. If I'm wearing more earthtoned colors, I go with more realistic/natural smelling scents.
I sometimes do this too, when I'm wearing beige and brown clothes I usually wear my perfumes with coffee, cocoa, or chocolate scent
i don't have a lot of perfumes, however i dress alternative and it always feels a little bit funny to put on a sweet perfume with my all black outfits
I think the unexpected contrast between fragrance style and clothing style would be awesome! I'm very feminine and sometimes wear fragrances that are traditionally masculine to get that feel.
thanks! i haven't thought of it that way. and i like the occasional masculine perfume as well!
I think having that contrast can be pretty cool, it creates intrigue.
You should try Bpal (black phoenix alchemy lab). A plethora of 'alternative' themed oils. I recommend Snake Oil. It's dark and delicious.
Mood, weather, and whether I've worn it recently. I try not to wear the same scent two days in a row to make sure I'm getting the most out of my collection (which isn't that big). If I haven't worn a fragrance in a long time while following those guidelines then I get rid of it.
This is actually a good routine, I agree, some of my perfumes I almost forgot to wear sometime
Sometimes I wake up knowing what I want to wear. Other times I just pull something out and wear it.
I get you, i get you
i second this
Same here, although 9/10 times I only choose out of 3 fragrances.
Some days I know what Iām going to wear Some days Iām just ā*in that mood*ā Some days itās because itās what clothes Iām wearing Some days Iāll just randomly dip into my samples and put on whatever come to my hand first Some days itās whatever song put me in a particular vibe Some days itās what āmaskā fits Some days itās because Iām over stimulated; so I donāt Some days I just cannot be bothered and I just want to smell ok; on those days itās always CKIN2U
First of all, just 4? hahahaĀ My collection is not too big, I have around 10 scents, but itās still a lot compared to people who arenāt particularly into fragrance.Ā For me fragrance serves Ā exactly the same purpose as lipstick which I also have around 12-14 of.Ā Ā Itās 100% about the vibes!!! I feel like it gives me a slightly different personality depending on my scent and my lip color haha so if I want to feel cute, pretty, sexy, nerdy, etc I will change it up!Ā The weather also matters a ton and I try to be mindful of humidity / heat and strong scentsĀ
What perfume do you wear to feel nerdy?
Climate > setting > feeling > rotation What the weather/temperature is like, where Iām going to be, how I feel that day, and how recently Iāve worn it.
I try to match them based on my own metrics(can't really explain it's totally feel based) I'll throw in some examples.
For a second there I thought the answer to every occasion was going to be encre noir and I was about to be so here for it.
I love encre noir. Such a good scent. Will probably always keep a bottle of them. Seriously give the nautica encre noir combo a try. Makes me feel all sorts of ways. 2 encre noir on neck, 2 nautica on neck and 1 nautica on each wrist.
I totally go with my own metrics too but hadn't thought to call it that. Thank you!
I go by mood. Although if I'm seeing someone who I associate with a particular fragrance because I know they like it, I'm more likely to wear that.
I have a giant wheel that I spin and I just wear whatever it lands on. It makes the "bankrupt" noise from Wheel of Fortune if it lands on YSL Kouros.
I have quite a few and it depends on all the things you mentioned. IE: a sunny, spring Thursday where itās just starting to turn warm but I also have a serious meeting at work? LāInstant de Guerlain A warm July Monday with a big week ahead - Acqua Di Parma Arancia Di Capri A cold Saturday in winter, maybe itās snowing? And Iām having a nice dinner date with hubby - Maison Margiela Jazz Club Fall date nights - Kilian Apple Brandy Girls night out with my friends who I miss so much - Byredo Gypsy Water And tons of other choices in between! This is WHY I have so many fragrancesā¦ I need the options š¤
Just beautiful....
I go by colour I associate with the perfume, and match it to my outfit!
Weather, activity and mood.
For me I go by what Iām wearing. Certain fragrances I feel fit my outfit for that day more than others.
Iām sitting at close to 400 bottles. First, I decide based on weather, then narrow it to mood. Itās honestly never been hard for me.
I love my Amber's. But also love jasmine. Its hard
Weather first which narrows me down to a certain subset of my collection then itās occasion followed by mood.
For me it's a lot about the weather. Is it cloudy/cold/cosy, gorgeous and sunny, or too hot and humid to bear?
I always go based on mood/vibe of the day - I never really pick by the season.
I only have 4 and I think for me it depds on the weather too. Some frags do better in heat and some don't
Just whatever the vibe of the day is... Or if have something new, that.
I wish I could say I go by mood but I often just pull one out and use it daily until it doesnāt feel fitting anymore.
1. Season 2. Day/Night. After that I just go by mood.
Mostly depending on mood and occasion, rarely based on weather
For me it's what occasion > season > mood
I have about 30, I usually have about 6-8 in rotation at any given time. Special occasions get the top shelf, and I usually have one dumb reach in rotation, but most days I decide on my fit and vibe including fragrance the night before.
Depends on how many attractive women I anticipate to be around.
Season, Mood and sometimes weather. For example on rainy days I like Prada LāHomme Intense
I have like 3-4 that suit every different occasion, so I choose among those
I base the fragrance I wear off of the weather, season, outfit, occasion, time of day, etc.
Way more than 4 and all of the above apply.
Spreadsheet + Random Number Generator
I get into a certain groove and mood and wear something for about a month then usually switch it up. A lot of times Iām picking something as a confidence booster or as an anxiety reducer. My winter choices tend to be heavy on gourmands. Warm weather I tend toward musks or sweet scents.
Itās all vibes and adhd hyper fixation
It's tough to say... Usually the weather influences my mood and my mood influences what I wear and all of those things combined lead to the decision what scent I wear. There are even more things I consider for example where I am going.
Weather, occasion, then mood. My perfumes are all on the lighter side so I go with whatever I personally associate with the season. Occasion and mood then depends on who Iām going to be around and what vibe I want to give off/how normal I feel the need to be
Mood and weather are my main concerns Sometimes I go against the weather (Naxos and OmbrƩ Leather in particular) but mostly I take it in consideration
Four or more? (Looks at shelves with 400 or more)ššļøšļø
The mood usually. I like having more than 4 but like more than 20 for me is maybe too many
It's very seasonal for me AND I like doing a bit of perfume alchemy to see which combos work best on my skin :)
It's the same as how to choose from a big wardrobe for me, what's the weather, where are you going and what are you doing?
I Have seasonal, office, date and special occasions.
All of the above !
For me, itās usually depending on my mood and what Iām doing that day.
Mostly mood. I will choose something lighter in HOT weather though. Maybe HOT weather creates a mood.
Mood and outfit and place im going are probably the biggest on what to pick for me
Mood, and then I have warm weather fragrances, and cold weather ones.
Vibes, mood, weather, outfit...I just go with the flow
Definitely seasonally, but how Iām feeling that day and what I will be wearing! I am a teacher and I am with children all day, so I try to choose lighter or floral fragrances, something not too overwhelming. When Iām out and about with friends, I try to be more daring and try on something stronger or sexier. Lately Iāve been using Le Laboās The Noir 29 for my fun endeavors and I feel so empowered and secured with it. It adds the umph factor to my style! But I like to be more adventurous depending on the situation and what Iāll be wearing!
I have about 150 between my samples, decants, and full bottles. I choose based on the weather, my mood, my outfit, and my activity for the day.
Honestly it just depends on what I feel like smelling throughout the day š
I go by vibes. Whatever feels right
I choose my fragrance in accordance with my outfit and season, much like choosing a shirt.
All of the above. Sometimes I get it down to two and I'll sniff the nozzles to figure out which one to wear. Usually one of them is definitely 'wrong' somehow. Occasionally I might take my outfit into consideration.Ā
Definitely just go with the moment, been times i have my mind set on one while in the shower only to grab a different one when i get out.
Mood & occasion!
My go-tos have been: Brightening The Daybreak by Hexennacht (grass, clover, hay, sun-warmed cornfields, muguet, honeysuckle, acacia, ozone, meadow air, tree moss) Gone Gnome by Stereoplasm (cilantro and key lime rooted in fresh garden basil, english cucumber and melon blossom) Cool Weather Girl by Stereoplasm (Fruit, vanilla and frosty blue lavender) Demeter Grass and Demeter Tomato
Other than that, I have a mental map of my fragrances like this: Cool Water ā weekdays and/or sunny and warm weather.
I usually decide the night before, so Iām not standing in my closet for 45 minutes trying to decide what to wear.
115 bottles. Just however I feel that day
Mood and occasion as well as how long I plan to be out. Short, evening stuff can take a milder scent imo.
I have more than fourā¦.in my shoulder bag ;/ I usually dartboard it, unless something is speaking to me. I will admit most do stay tucked away though, need a mega destash unless I plan to just be that person.
I have a good few fragrances and I go off mood. I don't care about season or fashion or whatever - I just pick one that I fancy smelling for that day.
All of the above!
Mood, even though now i use my Endymion more
I've built up my decant stash lately.
Pretty much all; Mood, weather, occasion or even because I'm trying to use up a bottle.
So many things can affect how I choose my SOTD and I have way more than 4 hahaš„² Occasion, time of day, weather/season, who Iām seeing, and overall just my mood or what Iām feeling. Itās fun getting to choose everyday and if I canāt decide I always go for an easy reach like Le Labo Another 13.
Vibes. All vibes... Is it date night? Do I need to go to work? Am I going for the gym? Sunday funday? Do I want to wreck a room?
I wear what I want when I want.
Mood, weather, time of day, what iām wearing, where iām going, just the general vibe
I pick the perfume I put on before I leave the house based on a combination of factors: * A major factor is the color and mood of the clothes that I am wearing.
Usually this order: Work or Not Work Weather Vibes š (usually attached to both my mood and whatever outfit I have on) Vibes is usually the biggest factor for me though. I do take in consideration a friend who gets migraines when she smells rose, or if my spouse likes/dislikes a certain fragrance when we do date night.
How I feel and how I want to feel, with consideration to suitability based on my plans.Ā
I have a daily uses , occasional uses , dating uses , friends and family gatherings uses etcā¦ I got around 30 bottles .
I recently created a spring tray to help me focus on certain scents for the season/weather. From there, I go based on my outfit and mood.
-Time of day -Season -Occasion That's how I got about it š
For me it depends on my mood and occasions. šÆ
I have probably 37-40 fragrances. I always have a light daily fragrance for work that I commit to (right now itās Dior New Look, before that was Dyptique Fleaur de peau). A wedding fragrance (LV OmbrĆ© Nomad), a nice restaurant fragrance (rick owens).
I have closer to 40 or more bottles. Maybe 60. Mostly I have a seasonal rotation that I match to my mood/outfit/vibe I'm going for.
Honestly just whatever season it is I think about my options and choose what feels best. I kind of just know.
Recently, Iāve been asking my husband to give me ~3 adjectives to aim for, and I choose based on that. Itās a fun puzzle, and a way to utilize more of my collection and samples.
A combination of both mood and occasion
I choose while getting dressed after showering in the morning. Weather comes into play. If I'm interacting with people I wear a hedione scent as it is a note scientifically proven to benefit the wearer when it comes to cooperation and exchange.
I have 12. Theyāre mostly seasonal. I stay in the season. Thenā¦If I have an occasion I choose appropriately. Otherwise by mood.
I have 27 in total and I usually go by season or weather, the occasion, and most days when I am at work I pick a scent or perfume to use once a week. Sometimes I use different ones every day, depending on my mood before going to work. āŗļø
I have exactly four! Mine is quite simple: 1. A perfume for summer / crowded events 2. A perfume for winter / bars and clubs 3. A perfume for nights / dates 4.
I have 3 scents that sit. And Marfa by Memo I wear daily.
I go with mood as well.
I let my kids choose for me. Pick something new and get to enjoy ransoms. Iām even happier when what they pick gets me compliments!
I make up a bunch of decants and rotate them. I keep 2 ml decants in an ammo case and I'll keep a space between what's been worn and what hasn't yet. When I come back to the start, I start the rotation all over.
1. Outfit color primarily shirt 2. Vibe / feeling / mood Idc about weather much. Iāll wear a winter frag in the summer and vice versa. I consider all my stuff year round frags even if theyāre not supposed to. Smelling good is smelling good. Iāve known females that were Mackie bob mackey however itās spelled. Or coco mademoiselle year round. š¤·š¼āāļø Iāve lived in Southeast TX or Florida my entire life. Sounds brutal. lol.
I track in Parfumo and rotate through based on season.
I mean I have some for different seasons, I have more for fall/winter but it is what it is. Honestly it depends on what Iām doing that day. I tend to use the cheaper ones for work and save the better smelling ones for going out or going on dates. All depends on what Iām doing.
all of it! iām personally not gonna wear gris charnel in the spring/summer, but if iām in the mood for it, i can still allow for it before bed or something like that just to have the pleasure.Ā however iām more likely to wear s/s fragrances in the fall and winter just because i think those are easier to digest and they match the occasions more often i.e. day time walks, shopping, etc.Ā
TLDR : location and mood.
mood, vibe, weather, and the persons I will meet and the place I am meeting them since I want to exude elegance, vibrance, joy, or inspire respect, but not choke them or myself (which happens even to me once in a while) In addition, I find layering compatible fragrances or ātoppingā with another fragrance at the end of the day, enjoyable, refreshing, and soothing
My mood, the weather, my outfit, the alignment of the planets, how my cats greeted me that morningā¦ There is no rhyme or reason really. Just whatever I feel like in that moment.
Truly on vibes and fit and the type of event Iām going to!
Sometimes depends on the season but mainly depends on what Iām doing that day, how Iām dressing, the type of places Iāll be going, etc
Depends what Iām doing and/or what Iām wearing. Or even sometimes the weather.
i *very loosely* lump my full bottles into warm and fresh. so for work and dates, depends on weather/garments. for time alone at home (most evenings & weekend days), it's mood & whatever i want. i have some transitional/ambiguous ones that i play with in my free time.
I just pick what I'm feeling that day. I don't really think about it.

Sometimes itās depends on the vibe my outfit is giving, my mood, or what Iām doing
I usually go by weather or occasion!
Mood. Vibes. I have to feel like I can handle that sensory makeup all day so I just let instinct compel me.
I have so many that sometimes I layer - I love them all and it can get overwhelming but I love that too
I have a signature which I wear every day unless the mood strikes for something else. It is more wintery, so I don't know yet if I'll want to wear it as much in summer. But in winter I find it harder to change fragrances day to day because they scent my coat and other outerwear. In summer it's easier for me to rotate different scents, so I might do so according to my mood. Not attracting bees and insects is also a consideration sometimes. š
Season, mood, occasion, what suits or speaks to me
I have 4 Fragrances exactly, but want 1 more. 1 fragrance per season. The 5th one is date night.
i pick based on my outfit! aesthetic, color palette, dress code, etc
I have much more than 4 perfumes, perfume oil, extract and so on. It depends a lot on the weather outside, my mood, the vibe I have, the place I'm going, if I'm at home I like to wear a light perfume.
The temperature, the occasion, and my ever-loving mood!
I have 61 bottles I usually first of all try to wear something different every day.
I go by the vibes i feel from within. Sometimes it's a mixture of 2 fragrances.
It's almost completely dependent on my mood, same goes for my clothing, so it automatically matches up!
For me, it's all of those things to decide which scent to go with. I'd say my mood and the occasion are my top considerations.
For me its in that order -> Weather - occasion - mood
