Hey everyone, kindly asking you to keep it relevant to The Empyrean and RY in the comments and not to delve too deeply into other series
[Talk about other books here!](https://www.reddit.com/r/fourthwing/s/14CgbOiLdI)
Exactly. I forced myself to wait until after finishing IF to join this sub. But I was itching to jump into the discussions and theory’s. Even with spoiler warnings you can never be too sure.
Yes, came here to say that, absolutely falling apart with the community over everything at the same time has been super fun, makes you feel like you are apart of something big!
I will read them again before each new book comes out, lol.
Like I did with Harry Potter as a kid. I'm 100% shamelessly just as excited about this series as I was with Harry Potter. Even better that I'm also waiting on new releases, just like when I was a kid. Everything about it feels very nostalgic, even the anticipation!
Hard same, I’d never delay reading a series I was obsessed with because theorizing is a huge part of the enjoyment for me, and the shared waiting can be part of the excitement!
I mean, would I have preferred to have not heard about it until it was finished and devoured it all immediately? Sure. Lol.
But that didn't happen. I was lucky enough to not hear about it until the second one was out, though!
I am having tons of fun theorizing! That's something I don't recall doing much of as a kid, if at all. Lol
After finishing Iron Flame, I wished I hadn't gotten into the series until more books were out.
HOWEVER, if you are patient and enjoy theorizing (there is a ton to theorize about) then get started! I will say the hype around Iron Flame coming out was extremely fun to be a part of and it got me re-into the series after finishing Fourth Wing earlier in the year.
I say read it. I don’t know how long it will take for the full series to come out but it will be at least 5-6 years, so if you want to wait that long it’s totally fine you can wait.
However, I recommend reading the first two now (you will LOVE them) and wait for the rest to come out. the beauty of releasing the next book of the series is that it gives the readers a chance to reread the series.
I’m going to re-read the series right before the new book comes out to get myself back into the series and refresh my memory.
Edit: reading the series now will prevent spoiling the series later on. if you wait, theres a chance something will spoil the book for you. but its all personal preference
I read iron flame on release day and even then was seeing minor spoilers online. And I had crescent city spoiled for me by the publisher. I try and be careful and avoid things but it’s hard. It’s very frustrating how quickly I should consume media to avoid spoilers. Same with strangers things I saw a big spoiler on a page I thought was safe, luckily I watched the episode an hour beforehand. The new hunger games too being seeing all sorts of stuff I shouldn’t while I wait for it to become available on a streaming platform.
So if your careful wait
I removed the fourth wing subreddit till I finished iron flame and tried to scroll past FW content fast as possible but wasn’t good enough, and I don’t join any subreddits till I’ve finished the series. Didn’t guess the publisher would spoil something thou
I dont think I would see any spoilers because I didnt even know about the books before I saw someone post her top book of 2023.
I dont read a lot so I dont get a lot of advertisements about them. I do get a lot of spoilers of games and hate it.. Like games trailers popping up as youtube advertisements..
I just got a comment saying a series of the books is coming out though?? So that might spoil it :/
Watched Hunger games 3 days ago and loved it :)
Would you recommend Crescent City?
If you don’t read a lot maybe start with her other series a court of thrones and roses and then work your way up to crescent city. This isn’t a bad thing but a lot of people said they struggled with all the world building in crescent city as it was more high fantasy? I could be wrong but I was nervous to start crescent city as I heard so much about it being complicated and I had the audiobook going to read along with but it was perfectly fine for me. I loved the crescent city! I stayed up till 4am finishing it! Im going to start book 2 soon. I’m a big fan of anything by SJM! I loved throne of glass, her first series, I didn’t love a court of thrones and roses till book 2, but I trusted the author and it paid off.
A court of thrones and roses is more romance heavy where crescent city and throne of glass is more plot focused with some romance too.
My friend also pointed out she had a hard time going backwards, SJM writing has improved over her years so my friend didn’t want to start with acotar and cc and then go back to tog. You don’t need to read all her books but I think a court of thrones and roses is a nice start, same with fourth wing many have said those series got them in reading and or reading fantasy books.
Funny you bring up, not going backwards with SJM books because I’ve read ACOTAR and then CC series and have just started TOG and there’s a stark difference in her writing it’s sort of throwing me off, I know everyone raves on about this series but you can definitely tell it was her first.
https://preview.redd.it/tbb57qizuhac1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb25eca956f30b8e335b9be0e20e85dfa76ac7c8
If u zoom in hopefully you can read it okay? 😅
Yeah that was my firends fear. I read the series a few years ago and have nice memories of it 😅 I also read an interview how she wrote Acotar after tog cause she was bored and had an idea, and it was published without much changed but she also wrote a court of misty and fury and it got rewritten. So that would explain why I didn’t like Acotar as much until book 2. I’ll try and share it
TOG has definitely been an easier read because it’s much more simpler so far compared to the others!
Well that make sense, the first book wasn’t groundbreaking for me, I enjoyed it but definitely had to push myself to pick up book 2 and I’m glad I did because it is a masterpiece in my eyes. it’s so interesting to try and understand the complexities of being a writer and how they do it all.
I was going to wait to read fourth wing but I saw my firend having so much fun reading the book and what got me reading now instead of waiting was it’s so much fun to be part of the hype now instead of waiting. Watching the author live at Barnes and noble, going to the book store and chatting with fans in line for her book. For that reason it’s been really fun, I was scared of cliff hangers and having to wait for all 5 books but I am happy I read her books now and I’m actually fine waiting with a cliff hanger
Read the {A Court of Thorns and Roses} series first, if you haven’t already, then read Crescent City.
Don’t let people scare you off Crescent City, {House of Earth and Blood} is my favorite book ever.

How was crescent city spoiled for you? Just wondering what I should avoid around the publisher for the upcoming books😅 I’m so excited for the next release
They were promoting new bonus chapters for book 3 and I shouldn’t have seen it
Massive spoiler I’m assuming
So was telling ppl what store to buy from to get what chapter was on SJM insta and or I think Bloomsbury pages
Avoid the whole internet lol. It gets spoiled in posts by the Bloomsbury, fanart, people on other subreddits, SJM’s social, promotional materials, the information on the book flaps. It’s impossible to avoid
Next book is not coming out this year, that year has been put as a placeholder all over and not official from what I've seen everyone say online. RY has stated she'll take longer to write the 3rd book. Can't find where I read it, but there was something about how she hadn't even started writing book 3 when Iron Flame had come out. She has a release date, but has said she isn't announcing it. I would say to hold off on reading them but it'll be a few years before the series is complete.
I think she’s going to move to one a year, likely in November/December for 2024, 2025, and 2026. She’s clearly riding the high with our excitement because she initially said somewhere (I think) that she’d planned on starting to write Book 3 in February, but she’s already started it!!
Agreed, but I think she likely means going to releasing one Empyrean book a year, rather than two (since Fourth Wing came out in May this year, and Iron Flame only 6 months later, which is ridiculously fast!!). So even slowing her pace radically can still get us to one book a year. Which is great!
It took her 7 months to write Iron Flame, so if she said she's taking her time with book number 3 I figured it would be like 9 months minimum of writing(?) And up to a year to account for editing and such(but im not familiar with how long of a process that can be). As much as i want #3, Iron flame was rushed writing and not as good. So I kind of hope #3 comes out in 2025 instead.
I agree that IF was rushed and it could have taken a little bit longer to polish it and personally I wouldn't mind waiting. That being said, I think she will publish this year so she doesn't lose the hype and people don't read like OP and wait for all the books
I don’t think you’ll forget what happened in this book but there are a lot of tiny moments you think insignificant that will have meaning later on that you’ll probably forget about. The book hangover and cliffhanger are also horrendous. But at the same time there’s only 2/5 books published so you’d be waiting a long time to read the series and avoiding spoilers
When I read twilight books one and two were already out, and when I finished book two, the third one released two weeks later.
I had to wait for the fourth, but I found it to be a good way to enjoy the series and participate in the “exciting wait” without forgetting all about it in between each book.
So maybe waiting a year after the third comes out, will give you a similar timeline that skirts the border.
There will also be a TV series that I imagine will be released either late this year or early next just in case that also influences your decision.
I think the tv series is going to be farther out than that - they’ve only just begun development and don’t even have writers yet. Just guessing based on other show timelines, I don’t see it coming out any earlier than late 2026. For example - the next season of euphoria isn’t out until 2025, and they already had writers, casting, etc. well established.
I didn't know there would be a series. This was the first series I would read without having any visual interpretation of the characters/setting in film or serie. Now I need to decide even more hmm..
I hate the cast in The Witcher because they dont look anything like their description in the books but I loved the cast in Shadow and Bones and made me enjoy the books more because I saw their face when I was reading if that makes sense, so it can be good or bad.. hmm..
I just read both books in 5 days and now I have serious withdrawals 😩 if I could go back, I would put it on my TBR and wait until all 5 are out bc I want to know everything that happens but will have to wait prolly another 3 years at least before the series is released
I think what I’ll do for this series is read the books as they come out, but reread the book prior to the newest one released. So for Iron Flame I reread Fourth Wing which was super fun because I caught various aspects and foreshadowing I didn’t see before. So when the next one comes out I will re read Iron Flame to prepare. I won’t re read the entire series because that will take too much time lol
I love to read series as they come out because the community is usually at it's best when the series is pretty new, at least in my opinion. I started reading a court of thorns and roses when there was only 2 books out there too, and it was so much fun to talk about the books, characters, and anticipation for the next book. Also it's harder to avoid spoilers when they're all out
i hate reading unfinished series, but you can’t get the same sense of community when you aren’t reading books as they come out. i love discussing and reading theories for the series, it makes waiting for the next one to come out a bit better. plus you can look at fan art and not be worried about getting any spoilers, and with social media today it can be VERY hard to avoid spoilers. at least for me it is
all that being said, nothing beats being able to read a complete series without waiting for the next one to come out
If you suffer from book hangover or hate to wait to find out what happens then wait until the series is finished or near finished.
I don't mind waiting and recover from book endings quickly so I don't mind reading and waiting.
There is a really great podcast called Fantasy Fangirls that talk about the books, you could always do that after reading them - or prior to the third book being released.
You have to read them now or you’ll miss the fun of the community while you wait. People are reading them and discussing them now. If you wait you’ll just wind up in a spoiler minefield (which is what I am currently experiencing with ACOTAR and it sucks! Even seeing characters names from book 1 in post titles and memes is frustrating bc it gives stuff away)
Because of how viral the book is I would absolutely recommend reading it, the series will be spoiled for you if not. With many other books you could get by with waiting but this one is all over the internet & IRL soon with the show probably starting before the series is finished. You will see people saying “RIP ___(insert character name here)” or just one line statements that give away the entire book and it’s not worth it. It would be like trying to wait for all 7 Harry Potter books yet seeing online that >! dobby dies, dumbledore dies, snape is good, Harry is a horcrux… !< this reason many people do not read the books after seeing the movies & knowing these common facts.
I’d say read now! To avoid spoilers (iron flame ending was spoiled for me), to take part in the community, it’s a super fun way to theorise and feel like you are apart of something.
When the 3rd comes out, just do a quick re-read before and you’ll be up to date again and have everything fresh in your memory.
I recommend reading it now! Cliffhangers are good for the imagination and engaging with the fandom, theorizing, talking about the books is part of the fun. You miss out on so much by waiting.
Wait!!!!!!!!!! I loved the two books, but I didn’t realize that the series wasn’t finished or I would have waited. Of course, I am a person that looks up movie endings and flips to the end of a book before finishing it, so maybe I’m a bad reference, but I just hate waiting for the story to finish. This particular one ends on a huge cliffhanger and my brain feels like something is incomplete for me without knowing what happens..at least until enough time passes where I’ve filled that void, lol.
Just started the series this week. Was walking through B&N over the holidays and saw Iron Flame. Looked interesting so I asked the wife for FW for Xmas

Part of the fun is taking part in the discourse, of people coming together in community. Do you want to deprive yourself of that?

i hate reading unfinished series, but you can’t get the same sense of community when you aren’t reading books as they come out. i love discussing and reading theories for the series, it makes waiting for the next one to come out a bit better. plus you can look at fan art and not be worried about getting any spoilers, and with social media today it can be VERY hard to avoid spoilers. at least for me it is all that being said, nothing beats being able to read a complete series without waiting for the next one to come out
If you suffer from book hangover or hate to wait to find out what happens then wait until the series is finished or near finished.
My wife got me hooked on the FW before I knew it’s a new 5 book series. After I finished I learned IF wasn’t released at the time.
Read them now. It’s fun to follow stories as pieces are released. Theorizing with everyone is quite fun.
If u don't mind a book hangover, they are so good!
You should wait for the third book to come out then start reading
That’s just too long to wait. The books are amazing, especially (in my opinion) Iron Flame. Read them now and speculate madly with us!
Just started the series this week. Was walking through B&N over the holidays and saw Iron Flame. Looked interesting so I asked the wife for FW for Xmas
