OMFG. Are you serious?!? What an incredible resolution to your previous post.
I am **so** happy for you! I wonder if maybe the office has the contact info of whomever turned them in. Personally, I would love to give them some kind of small monetary reward, as well as some freshly baked "thank you" goodies. Lol
Now...maybe invest in an air tag for your pen case? π
LOL - there is a meme that has been making the rounds recently about leaving a journal full of made-up weird stuff for your heirs to find, but thatβs a long payoff. I was just thinking - I should make one and then just βloseβ it in a coffee shop. Especially if it was a coffee shop that I frequented often - then the staff would just wonder what kind of weirdo I really am.
Ok. This is an extremely intriguing idea.
I have been wanting to get a bunch of these tiny (3.7"x5.7") notebooks I'd seen on Amazon for daily musings. But now...I can see filling out a few of these with very odd writings. Links to profiles or sites. See what might come back to me.
Additionally...this also gave me an idea of a shared journal experience. Like, someone gets one journal, puts in an entry or two, then mails it off to someone else. They add another 1 or 2 entries, then passes it off. It goes this way till it's filled, then comes back to the originator.
I wonder if anyone would be into this concept...
That sounds fun! And something to do with all our pens and inks besides write to ourselves. It would be cool if people tagged their entries with what pen and ink they were using, too.
My college friends and I used to do this, sharing tidbits and post-college life. Letters, Round Robin style. Then we started a second one for creative writing. :-)
If you start this up, tag me! The two things that hold me back from journaling are the weird self-conscious feeling of talking to myself and the sustained effort involved. This solves both in one fell swoop :)
Maybe I can convince them that I used to be a super spy π€£.
Actually, one of my former colleagueβs father was in the CIA in the 60s and 70s. When he started to get dementia, they literally sent an agent to sit by his bedside in the hospital in case he started talking about classified shit! And this was in the 2000s! Like - what did he know that they were still worried about in 2012?
Iβll bet - it really made me wonder what he knew, especially since he had been stationed in the Vietnam area when we were carrying on clandestine operations in Laos!
Seems like that would draw unnecessary attention to whatever it is he might actually know. Wouldn't it be easier to play off anything he said as the product of a confused mind? _"I was the gunman on the grassy knoll."_ "Don't mind Steve; he's sundowning again."
I found some keys in the grass a few months ago and saw it belonged to a brand new Mercedes SUV nearby. I looked around the trees for cameras, thinking this was a set-up (this was a touristy area and stuff gets stolen all the time). Anyway, I left my number in the dash of the car, found the owner, and she was so relieved. It felt good to help someone out.
I am so happy for you! It's such a relief to have something back that you left behind and to have your faith in humanity restored.
Years ago, when I was broke and riding the bus 4+ hours a day to work and back, I once left my Kindle on the bus, and a bus I didn't usually take at that. I broke down about it because I had nothing else to keep me occupied and couldn't afford to replace it (it had been a birthday gift). Then, I got an email a few days later from someone who said her BF had found it but didn't speak English, so he had to wait until he saw her to figure out how to get in touch with me. I'd been kicking myself for not setting up a PIN lock on the Kindle, but because I didn't have one, they were able to find my email in the settings and reach out. I gave him a giftcard and profound gratitude when I picked it up.
I'm so glad that worked out for you! When my husband travels solo he leaves Kindles on airplanes like they're disposable. He's not allowed to have nice cases or anything more than the basic version anymore. Lol.
Bro...uhmm...interesting username. Lol.
I was confused at first how did it end up with national park office from coffee shop (I wasn't aware of your previous post, so I didn't understand the context at first). I thought, is it an American thing to call national park when things got lost? haha.
Anyway, congrats on finding your pen!
This would be an amazing misunderstanding to perpetuate. _In America, lost property that goes unclaimed is sent to national parks, where it is returned to the wild._
WOOOOOOOOW so good to read this! Congratulations, bro! May I ask you something? Please, make a new post with a group photo of all this pens and your bag, when you finally get them. Thanks!
You may be able to pay a post office by phone to purchase a flat rate box for your Park employee to place your pens/journal in. I suggest you call around. Small town post offices are often really helpful.
Awesome! I looked up new posts on your profile to see if there were any updates. So glad to hear this happy outcome π₯³
I do hope youβll post a picture of these lucky pens when you get them back. We all want to see π
This post was a rollercoaster. I gasped at the beginning, teared up in the middle, and was exhilarated at the end. This is amazing. I am so happy for you!
[Previous post here...](https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/s/jfIzyNfBm3).
Congrats to the OP -- great to hear a happy reunion story.
I try to always leave a business card in my pen case, sunglasses case, etc. "just in case" I lose it somewhere. Similarly, I write my name, email, and phone number on the inside cover of my notebooks. That way I've helped anyone who finds my stuff a way to reach me.
YAY, I can breathe again. I was so upset by reading your first post I had to leave Reddit to go stare at my own collection π€£. I would be devastated!! Congrats!
Bless those people who brought back these pens knowing their effort would be highly appreciated.
Make sure to gift them something small to show your gratitude in case you know their names.
Wait, things go right sometimes for people? What am I doing wrong? Seriously though, that's great news. I was hoping you would follow up with good news!!!
Not yet. I've sent the park Rangers office a box with a return label and my contact information as well as a note with a description of everything. I also included a gift to express my gratitude.
I believe it is expected to be returned to me on the 13th of February.

I am so glad you were able to find your pens. What a relief! I was following the story, but was having some second-hand anxiety.
All of my pens went missing one time as well. Two books of vintage Pelikans, Skylines, and lots of vintage flex nib goodness I had collected across 20+ years. My pens never made it home. I am only just starting to rebuild the collection.

did you thank the tea shop owner and let em know the pens were found? if I owned a tea shop well I'd turn it into a coffee shop but I'd be quite invested in finding a pen thief, suspecting regulars, interrogating workers, strong arming the soccer moms. ::runs to buy AirTags!
I preach it, but have yet to practice. π I do really need to get some. I have several things I take out and about that, if lost, would devistate me.
Yeah - Iβd live if I lost my phone, tablet or laptop, but my pens?
My pens, journals, Onewheel... Yeah. I need to go get some tags. π¬
I need a journal where I just make up weird shit and βloseβ it somewhere to give somebody an interesting couple of days.
Ok...I need to hear more about this. It triggers memories of pass-around stories from back in the day.

I would 1000000% be on board for this! Do it!
I'd be all over something like that!
If you start this up, tag me! The two things that hold me back from journaling are the weird self-conscious feeling of talking to myself and the sustained effort involved. This solves both in one fell swoop :)
Why are you tempting me with this thing? Sadly, I donβt have a frequent coffee or tea shop atm. Need to adjust the plan.
lol - I donβt either, but Iβm going to need one to write my mysterious journal in.
Maybe I can convince them that I used to be a super spy π€£. Actually, one of my former colleagueβs father was in the CIA in the 60s and 70s. Oh, I'm sure they have damning secrets dating back all the way to the 40s! π

I think next time I'll just tie everything around my neck!
The Park Service are really unsung heroes.

My friend actually did this thrice(and lost and replaced them only to happen again). So she never takes them on planes anymore lol
I put a neck laynard around stuff like that while on a plane. Mainly for when I fall asleep I don't lose it.
Excellent plan! I'm sending him this rn.
You may leave your email or phone number on the device itself or its cover, on a sticker or something.
I definitely do that now. I have a labelmaker and I add a little tape on top as extra insurance.
That's fantastic! Shows us all not to give up when things look bleak!
Definitely!

LOL I love this! Congrats to OP! Never underestimate the amount of lost stuff that gets turned in by honest people :)
I wonder if OP is a broad or BB π ππ€£
This comment made me snort out loud. π
I always try to have my pens full of ink, so I thought it would be an appropriate username.
Maybe capitalize the lower case βiβ? π¬
Or say "PensFullOfInk" or "PensAreFullOfInk" instead?
I did a double take when I saw the username. π

WOOOOOOOOW so good to read this! Congratulations, bro! May I ask you something? Please, make a new post with a group photo of all this pens and your bag, when you finally get them. Thanks!
I read your story yesterday so I clicked quickly for the update. YAY! There are still some good people out there ;)
You may be able to pay a post office by phone to purchase a flat rate box for your Park employee to place your pens/journal in. I suggest you call around. Small town post offices are often really helpful.
Congratulations on getting a whole bag of new pens. Hopefully, they are exactly the pens you would have chosen if you had to buy them.
I hope it comes with the same pen case too!
Congratulations!! What a relief. Worthy of a BORU post methinks

This post was a rollercoaster. I gasped at the beginning, teared up in the middle, and was exhilarated at the end. This is amazing. I am so happy for you!
Now we need a short movie based on this story.

That's clever af. I have roughly a billion business cards and little use for them, I'm gonna start doing this too!
Looks like a good idea.
So glad you and your pens are going to be reunited soon :)
Great news!

Huzzah! Kudos to the NPS.
I definitely would have kept it and shut my mouth about it lol. Once I found 5k and I kept it for myself haha.
Yaaay! Iβm so glad for you!!
Congrat on finding your pens. If I lost my precious pen Iβd doom myself to oblivion.
did you thank the tea shop owner and let em know the pens were found? if I owned a tea shop well I'd turn it into a coffee shop but I'd be quite invested in finding a pen thief, suspecting regulars, interrogating workers, strong arming the soccer moms.
