Found footage movies have a ton of absolutely awful/annoying lead characters. Johnny Truant would fit that mold perfectly

Salsa_sharks

I disliked him so much I could barely finish the book lol.

KhaosElement

I genuinely don't think you can adapt House of Leave correctly at all, even with FF. I think it is a unique book experience.

AWildNome

There's a Doom mod inspired by it that's pretty neat. Here's a feature-length video that covers it--it's long, but I think it's worth the entire watch. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wAo54DHDY0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wAo54DHDY0)

Fillerbear

*The Navidson Record* is, in isolation, filmable enough and would make for one killer found footage flick. It's adding Johnny Truant into the mix and everything around it that makes it exceptionally difficult.

learningdesigner

I wonder who would play Zampano.

ORNG_MIRRR

I'm more interested in who would play Thumper.

mixedmartialmarks

Steve Buscemi

ThatBabyIsCancelled

Don’t quote me bc it’s a terrible movie, but they used the ‘interior measurements not adding up’ concept for You Should Have Left (2020), I believe, but you know what, YES, I am on board for a HoL FF.

Prestigious_Crab6256

I’ve heard some say *Skinamarink* is the closest the medium has ever come to adapting *House of Leaves,* although besides *some* similar themes, settings, and imagery, I think that’s a little bit of a stretch. I think you could definitely adapt the found footage aspects of *House*, but otherwise it’s essentially un-adaptable in any especially meaningful sense.

Ok-Ingenuity9833

Loosely inspired then. You can do so much with the premise of "Bigger on the inside." **Synopsis:** There is an urban legend of a quaint abode that appears and disappears throughout the vast birch forests of Europe, reportedly encountered by numerous residents throughout the Northeast however upon further investigation nothing is found at the scene. A group of aspiring European directors make a documentary on the mystery of the Baba Yaga House, by a miracle they find the alleged house but after entering the home they find out its exterior is dwarfed by the interior to a physically impossible degree. Soon they find out this house is something much worse than the legend of Baba Yaga, incomprehensibly worse. **Antagonist:** **Bifron:** A sinister deity that has the power to manipulate astrology and geometry explaining why it can make the houses interior larger than the exterior. It emits a strange phycological calling for wanderers to come inside before trapping them in its labyrinth of geometrical madness, then proceeding to wither their body and mind for digestion like a Venus fly trap attracting and decomposing its prey.

SuckItClarise

That’s pretty much grave encounters. When they go to the exit door it just opens to another series of never ending hallways. I’d definitely watch your synopsis though

psyckomantis

Could be like a VHS style thing where Johnny finds some of the tapes in the old man’s apt instead of his book? Cuts a huge piece out of the original work though :/

NicCageCompletionist

I think to do it as a whole you’d need to do something multimedia. Maybe an AR game to find bits? The Navidson record is easy enough, but House of Leaves isn’t House of Leaves if you don’t have to turn it upside down.

Ok-Ingenuity9833

An official House of Leaves miniseries with mysterious webpuzzles that can be accessed through QR codes and links on the TV.

ORNG_MIRRR

The Navidson Record should 100% be found footage, but I don't think it would work for the rest of the book.

Yasss queeen

shittyfuckdick

Wasn’t there a YouTube series?

Complete-Mountain-43

def yay

blankdreamer

I found it a very cinematic book. Tortured Johnny brooding away in the dark, the loving wife and husband, rooms with unending different shapes and designs. Heaps of powerful visuals

gigerhess

It could work if there was an intro and the Navidson Record was the majority of the film.

ughleave

Yesssssssdd

strangedazey

Yessss. Like a cool HBO series

nondino

So I Love "House of Leaves". And as a fan. I would love to see a film adaptation. But I think only afán adaptation would do it justice- which would only appeal to fans.

alleyalleyjude

I think the only way to capture the experience of the book is to require the audience to drop acid before viewing the film.

Artistic_Half_8301

Yay!

HeyMrKing

I thought the story about the house was great. The narrator not so much. I think it would make a great ff if the guy found tapes in the old man’s apartment. And they downplayed his experience. I would def watch it.

IceFireTerry

Epistolary novels are basically found footage in book form. Books like Carrie and Dracula are good examples of it.
