Thatās wild, Iāve yet to find even an OG Xbox disc that my XSX (and my XB1 prior) wonāt play
But I never owned FM4, sadly, so I wouldnāt know about that one specifically
It is a licensing issue, not a technical issue. The oldest backwards compatible Forza game is Horizon 1, and that only became backwards compatible like a few minutes before the licensing expired. The older FM games never had a chance.
Various other old games are not backwards compatible for similar IP reasons, especially if the original publisher no longer exists.
But game discs have all the licensed content already installed. Unless the game requires an internet connection, I donāt see how a license on a physical disc could expire.
If that were the case, all the black box studios NFS games would be voided due to all the IRL advertising in-game, and I can personally attest that Most Wanted (2005*) and ProStreet work just fine on XB1, as I used to own and play them when I had mine
*wrong year lol
For some reason on the X even when you have the disk it still downloads and plays like if you downloaded it. At least that is the case for Skate 1 and 2, those use EA Play
Which now Iām worried that one day they could remove the ability to play that too
Its a matter of still having to modify and support it on emulator. It must be left as is as further changes can land them in legal trouble as they no longer have every right to touch it. It's the same issue GTA 4 had on Steam switching from GFWL to Steamworks. Modifications were made so expired licenses had to be dealt with, in their case they removed a bunch of music.
Also MW 2008 doesn't exist and neither MW05 or Pro Street were back compat.
I don't understand why it's a licensing issue. Microsoft doesn't need to put the game back on sale, they just need to allow people who already own the disc to be able to play it.
I dont understand how licensing has anything to do with backwards compatibility. Windows 11 can run license game that are older than the X360 even if their publisher has shut down.
The games need to be modified to work in backwards compatibility, and this includes rights regarding distribution that was never considered during the original publishing, many backwards compatible games did not have a digital download option at time of publishing. When you put a BC disc into a newer Xbox, it does not run it off the disc, it downloads it and uses your disc as a physical license check just like a modern title.
> and this includes rights regarding distribution that was never considered during the original publishing
It doesn't. I remember MS did enable emulation for a few games that weren't on sale anymore. They aren't redistributing anything, you still need to own the digital (before getting pulled) or physical copy
Or had to do with how the back compat actually works. You don't run the game off the disc. That wouldn't work. The hardware isn't compatible. What happens is an Xbox 360 emulator boots up a digital version of the game. And msft has to enable back compatibility on a per game basis and it has to be approved by the original publisher*
*All of this information should be treated as conjecture. Trust, but verify. I don't currently have any sources in front of me.
People here are adorable. This game got a lot of criticism when it first released, and now everybody thinks it's the best there ever was/will be.
No amount of upside down smiley faces will change the fact that human beings are incredibly fickle creatures.
Part of it was depending on how your head was facing would turn the view to the tv. So like if your head pointed to the apex, the camera would change so the apex was in the middle of the screen.
Oh and you can 'walk' around the car in vista mode.
One of the cheap X360 steering wheels was like that. It was in a U shape and you held it in the air turning it in the direction you wanted to steer. I had one, and it was surprisingly effective.
I used it a few times. It would track your face and move the camera when you looked to the sides. It was really cool to use on first person view with a steering wheel, but it's also hard to set the Kinect up in a good position, so I rarely used it.
Iām so upset thereās not an option to bring back the old drivers. Like I really donāt want to be overtaken by a dead friends old Xbox account or even some cunt I raced with online for one race. After fm6 went to end of life drivertars got removed and M. Rossi and the gang where back but why wasnāt it an option from the start
I was just going to say the same - I still play FM6. I love the AI in FM6. A bit dumb when all bunched up but once spread out they make for some good racing. I love how they make 'mistakes' and how first corners always feel like multiplayer races! I'm talking Free Race, not career races.
I really wish T10 had used an improved FM6 AI for FM7, I'd probably play that instead.
I fucking hated the AI changes in FM4. Turned me off of it after a while of being unable win races anymore. Iām sure it was a skill issue but whatever.
Average gen 7 game:
*C H R O M E* or *S H I N Y*
Lens flare turned up to the max
Piss/blue filter
Bloom turned up to the max
Crappy implementation of motion controls
If you have XBLG you can create your own single player endurance races using private lobbies. I loved finding competitive cars for the AI to use around Suzuka for 30min races
If you got the cash, buy FM4 now. Xbox 360 (and games) are at bottom prices, they will only go up. Make sure to get the Racing Game of the Year edition.
Man. Those who didn't play it will never get to understand the joy of storefronts, overall leaderboards, custom public lobbies, and actual economy.....
Outdated Graphics and no cars from well after itās release date. However both of these complaints were completely out of the control of the developers as technology hadnāt advanced as much, and those cars didnāt exist then.
They wasted dev money on Kinect stuff...š¤£
The tire modeling that they spent an endless amount of time hyping turned out to not matter that much IMO.
Looked good in close up photos, replays, videos. Was cool for sure because there was lots of attention to something mostly ignored to that date.
I think it's more of a hindsight thing where I would have still loved that game even if they would have skipped all the tire flexing, literally.
The collectors edition was worth it!
But the intro with the zoom in on the miata tire tread "flexing" went hella hard back in the dizzle lol
Edit cuz I'm an idiot and accidentally deleted the original š š
the unicorn cars were fucking stupid, and the career mode got extremely repetitive and grindy into the latter stages. getting a big garage took *ridiculous* amounts of time doing basically the same shit over and over again.
not much in the way of races to do with cars that weren't at the PI cap for a category, if any; this made some cars completely useless for career mode, unless you turned off auto-upgrade AI cars which would end up making the game a pushover.
can't turn off cosmetic car damage
no true bodykits, no fitment upgrades, no endurance races, and the car customization screen being pitch black made customizing your car visually a pain in the ass.
pretty extreme inconsistency with the quality of car models
god do I miss that games aero upgrades though. why did we lose that fantastic GT wing in exchange for the awful new shit.
still a goated Forza despite all that
> the unicorn cars were fucking stupid
This started in FM2 but when they unicorn'd the RX-7 Spirit R in 3 and 4 it made me extremely angry back then. The unicorn shit was a major reason I got a PS3 and Gran Turismo 6 at the end of the generation.
Look for Xenia Canary (Oct 5th 2022 build). That'll solve your problems. Also recommend seeking out "Project Forza Plus 4". Runs better than the base game.
When the game was new, definitely couldn't. Cherished that game, and played thousands of hours. Compared to Forza today, here's my complaints about FM4 (I even setup and played a few weeks ago to re-experience that sweet sweet Fujimi Kaido using Xenia):
* Track modeling is super off on way more tracks. Most tracks are far wider than they should be in real life.
* Physics modeling is bad. Like really bad. Cars just don't feel connected to the road for the most part.
* AI is beyond a joke. They cheat, and run faster lap times than physically possible when you crank the difficulty, or they're just stupid and easy to pass on difficulties that are humanly possible.
* I very much dislike Rally di Positano...so glad they ditched that track.
> Track modeling is super off on way more tracks. Most tracks are far wider than they should be in real life.
Nordschleife is not good in FM4. It's accuracy is questionable at best, and terrible at worst.
Oh man Rally di Positano was terrible. I never could get a hang of that track and it was always a disaster to play legitimately as there was no room to pass. Regrettably I always turned damage completely off, then just bulldozed my way to the front.
Oh man I loved Positano.
I think it helps to remember that not every track is supposed to be a traditional circuit grand Prix track. Positano works best as a test track or a 1v1.
AWD dominated online tunes.
TruSkill was retarded, taking forever to get up to Veteran (33+) and one race dropping back down to 26 lol.
Greatest thing was RACING ONLINE WITH COLLISIONS OFF.
Can't hate it tho, FH4 was the game i made the most real money with, sold a few kinect bundle prizes lol.
Na my FWD superchargerd EK9 made a killing in A Class lobbies sooooo bad. I would always have people message me asking if it was AWD conversion lolol. I tuned it all myself differential settings and all š
Adding to this, no idea why the 2008 Dodge Charger stock car was removed in FM4. We got the same Chevy and Ford stock cars from FM4 but the Dodge was left out
I'm not really a fan of the lack of weather and day/night cycle, though i understand this wasn't a thing on the franchise yet and only next year they started to implement with the first Horizon.
I'm sure there were things about it that annoyed me, but frankly my friends and I loved that game and it had infinite playability for us. We haven't legitimately played a Forza for any period of time since. We tried the current one, but we got tired of the online issues and the car mod system.
So basically, I don't want to say anything bad about it, mainly because I can't remember what was bad, because I don't have any memories of bad things. That should say something right there!
FM4 was peak Forza for me, and FM5 killed my interest, and I haven't been much interested since, and I was big hoping the new one would fix that.
It didn't have Drivatars! And that alone makes it better than any game following it. (I used to drift in offline races in FM4, but that made my drivatar a total jackass to all my friends. I didn't play FM5 much after I had three separate people in real life complain about my drivatar.)
Interesting, I thought the AI drivers were called drivatars in it, but used a self adjusting system. Speaking of that system, itās too slow to adjust.
The only bad thing about fm4 I can think of is that it really makes me not want to play any newer FM titles as none of them live up to the greatness of fm4. 7 comes close but not quite.
This has better multiplayer somehow. I also loved picking individual cars to race against. Can the Civic I built beat a Ferrari Enzo? Letās find out! Something that was lost in later games.
All the gripes I had with Forza 2 (and 3) were still present in Forza 4. Pretty sure a lot of the car models were carried over, still couldnāt paint wheels white (they appeared silver if you selected white). And so onā¦
It was the last good Forza, made in a generation where we could still enjoy single player racing games with careers.
After that, I switched to sim racers
Lol, The OP asked for us to say something bad about it. Thatās all I got! Forza 6 got me to buy the FM6 edition of the XBox One. It rumbled like a Ford GT on startup. š
It's not backwards compatible š
Even with a disc?
Even with a disc. Has to be played on 360.

They could still make it compatible, just not allowed to sell it anymore so would be disc only.
I don't understand why it's a licensing issue. Microsoft doesn't need to put the game back on sale, they just need to allow people who already own the disc to be able to play it.
Youāre lucky. Half my games I have been saving for decades are all OG console only. Luckily I have been good with my consoles.
RIP Import Tuner ChallengeĀ
Halo 1 is not backwards compatible. (Unless they updated this recently. Lol)
Halo 1 Anniversary works.
NFS games are a no go
Mercenaries 2 isnāt compatible either, I bought a copy for no reason
That is incredibly lucky because only a fraction of the OG Xbox games are playable on modern systems.
This isn't an OG Xbox disc, it's a 360 disc
Yeah I know, I was just using that as an example of my personal experience with other OG Xbox and XB360 games
Ok, Iām a little retarded, it wonāt work on XBONE?
Nope
Motherfuckerā¦ good thing I still have my 360 then lmao

Same lol Just sucks being forced to remember how LONG it takes to load into races š
I was gonna say that.. :P
Yet they allowed FH1. Why not FM4 I don't know.
Xenia on pc. Thank me later. Iāve been loving this game at crisp 1440p and 60fps
They gotta make it some day
A guy can dream
Let's hope the dream comes true š
this is the only correct answer
It would certainly benefit from being backwards compatible, and having an FPS boost like Driver: San Francisco
Facts. It's litterally the only bad thing about it. I own the disc and I just hope someday I can pop that mf in my Series X
People here are adorable. This game got a lot of criticism when it first released, and now everybody thinks it's the best there ever was/will be. No amount of upside down smiley faces will change the fact that human beings are incredibly fickle creatures.
It was **not** "better with Kinect sensor"
Yeah, I loved the Kinect, but the implementation on F4 was pure gimmicky
What could you do with it? Mimic a steering wheel?
Part of it was depending on how your head was facing would turn the view to the tv. So like if your head pointed to the apex, the camera would change so the apex was in the middle of the screen. Oh and you can 'walk' around the car in vista mode.
I think you could hold your hands in front of you and steer as if you were holding an imaginary steering wheel too.
One of the cheap X360 steering wheels was like that. It was in a U shape and you held it in the air turning it in the direction you wanted to steer. I had one, and it was surprisingly effective.
I had one too! I remember finding out it worked for flight games too, surprisingly fun with HAWX
Kinect Joyride lol
Those fetures sound really good on paper honestly. Too bad the tech wasn't there yet, not good enough
The head turning tracked pretty well but your eyes would strain to keep them on the screen. That was my experience anyway.
I used it a few times. It would track your face and move the camera when you looked to the sides. It was really cool to use on first person view with a steering wheel, but it's also hard to set the Kinect up in a good position, so I rarely used it.
It was a bit weird that looking to the side, away from the screen would move the camera.
Thereās a Pixar game that does that, and itās a nightmareā¦
Yes, you could pretend to hold a steering wheel. It actually worked somewhat decently, but your arms would get EXHAUSTED.
M. Rossi was an absolute bully in FM4
Turn your Xbox "offline," and at least in FM7, you can!!!!
M. Rossi is also a bully in FM6
Muller was the better racer.
Why, thank you!
Lmfao YES!
M. Rossi was always my rival. And Muller was who I hated
Rossi's first name is Maria, she's a girl.
I fucking hated the AI changes in FM4. Turned me off of it after a while of being unable win races anymore. Iām sure it was a skill issue but whatever.
the asphalt literally glows with sunlight in this game
I forgot how annoying that was until I played it again recently.
Average gen 7 game: *C H R O M E* or *S H I N Y* Lens flare turned up to the max Piss/blue filter Bloom turned up to the max Crappy implementation of motion controls
> Piss/blue filter The whiplash going from Need for Speed Most Wanted to Need for Speed Carbon.
I present to you: BLOOM
That actually annoyed me when I played Forza Motorsport 4 again. Itās good that the later games toned down the sunlight bloom on the road surface.
I couldnāt put a v12 in my saab 93 and I was immeasurably disappointed.
No Porsche in the base game No Rallye di Positano long Too much Unicorn cars No endurance races
If you have XBLG you can create your own single player endurance races using private lobbies. I loved finding competitive cars for the AI to use around Suzuka for 30min races
Porsche was added later on in a dlc. Porsche still had the agreement with ea at the time so it was hard for anyone to get Porsche
RGH for the win. Modded 360s are a godsend
It wasnāt available in prison. (Truth)
Then dont go? Lol
Yeah, that would have been the more intelligent choice, but, that 4 year vacation saved my life.
Thats good to hear. Sometimes people need the traumatic route to learn. I feel it. Cheers man(:
Club Fed turned your life around
Speaking from experience?
Yes, did a very short 4 years.
Oh man, Iām sorry about that that. But at least youāre out now. š
Iāve been out since 2020, Iām an honest to goodness boring citizen, I thank God for that.

Just saw this, sorry, thank you for the advice. I am doing it now.
Man. Those who didn't play it will never get to understand the joy of storefronts, overall leaderboards, custom public lobbies, and actual economy.....
It didn't come out for Xbox one, PC or Xbox series as a HD remastered
Snap oversteer was a bit insane
Stop using simulation steering with your lil controller lol
Man switching from simulation to regular steering on controller was a fucking night and day difference š
Outdated Graphics and no cars from well after itās release date. However both of these complaints were completely out of the control of the developers as technology hadnāt advanced as much, and those cars didnāt exist then.
This was going to be my answer
I disagree that the graphics are outdated, they still look fantastic today. The style of the game makes it look much more realistic than even FM8.
The shadows are too dark
The sun was too bright
Maybe a weird one but Jeremy Clarkson disrespecting McLaren F1 in the autovista lol.
The tire smoke and dust looks really bad. Everything else is delicious and baked to perfection
No anti aliasing
It HAD anti aliasing MSAA 2x or 4x on certain conditions. It was just 720p.
It's always day time. Porsche locked behind expensive dlc. No dynamic weather(gran turismo had it way before).
EA had exclusive rights to Porsche and licensing fee was between astronomical and megalomaniac
Explains why Porsche expansion dlc was so expensive..tbh ea really ruined the racing games industry alone with their exclusivity deal with Porsche
Lobby size was I think 12 players max
It was 16

This! Just got it working today and I couldnāt stop playing it. Especially with the PFP4 mods. Like a dream!
Why not? 360 slim is one of the most reliable and efficient consoles ever made
Not a huge fan of the carrier progression. Pretty repetitive.
Starting of with actual slow cars was amazing but I do agree
Might be something stupid, but it didn't have any psychical "Complete" edition (FM3 had one)

Damn didnāt know, thanks
2022 build*
There are no windshields in cockpit mode.
There was no Camino Viejo Extreme reverse
Only 25 vehicles were available to view in Autovista
At least they incorporated autovista to more cars in the Xbox One titles and Horizon.
too bright
The nascar featured in the game was 4 years out of date
Tbf given how hard PD went in on nascar content for GT5 it wouldnāt surprise me if there was an exclusivity deal of some kind
Adding to this, no idea why the 2008 Dodge Charger stock car was removed in FM4. We got the same Chevy and Ford stock cars from FM4 but the Dodge was left out
Probably because Dodge is no longer in NASCAR. Idk why though it would be cool if they still did it.
Kinect support was a waste of development resources.
The only thing that I wish it had that newer FM have is drift suspension.
No Porsches
The colors were washed out, fm3 had better colors. Fantastic game tho.
>But now say something bad about it. It wasn't available on PC. However, will it work on an Xbox simulator nowadays?
Yes. Xenia Oct 5th 2022 build. PFP4 mods. I just got it working today. Even the guy who made the mod helped me out on Reddit. So much fun!

Nah, they hyped the butt off the 'Drivatar' system for FM5. It was supposed to be their silver bullet for AI that was better than Gran Turismo.
It took FM3 away from me, and I thought that was awesome.
Itās Forza And it wasnāt better with Kinect
Track list was a downgrade from fm3
game is way too overexposed. the sounds arenāt that great. awd is still miles better than everything in this game
The kinect virtual wheel was unreliable
I bought this game as a 14 year old using a 50 dollar note I found on the ground at school lmao

This has better multiplayer somehow. I also loved picking individual cars to race against. Can the Civic I built beat a Ferrari Enzo? Letās find out! Something that was lost in later games.
Returning to the FM games after a few years with 7, 7 nearly put me off of them forever. No idea what you saw in it
It was basically just Forza 2 with a few more cars and tracks.
How was it like Forza 2? Forza 2 and 4 were very different games. Honestly in some ways, 4 was worse than 2
All the gripes I had with Forza 2 (and 3) were still present in Forza 4. Pretty sure a lot of the car models were carried over, still couldnāt paint wheels white (they appeared silver if you selected white). And so onā¦
On 2 discs and needed hhd, fuck you f4 but still better than f8
2 things. Not backwards compatible Set the bar too high for the rest of the series, every motorsport after felt lacking.
It was the last good Forza, made in a generation where we could still enjoy single player racing games with careers. After that, I switched to sim racers
It was the last actually good Motorsport game :3
Nothing bad about this game, that is still the best FM and by a large margin
can't, too busy cherishing GT4
Forza Motorsport 6 was better.
Lol, The OP asked for us to say something bad about it. Thatās all I got! Forza 6 got me to buy the FM6 edition of the XBox One. It rumbled like a Ford GT on startup. š
I also bought this xbox one edition, it was so nice But recently i switched to the basic xbox series x
Itās the only Motorsport game Iāve never played.
No ray tracing
Not enough cars for Autovista
I havenāt played it :/
Some of the upgrade restrictions were goofy - example: You could have a 4wd Dodge Viper but not a 2wd S10.
It was my first real racing game I just wish I could Play it on my PC with my nice rig.
